Iran Offers Condolences to Iraq over Deadly Hospital Fire

“I condole with the brotherly nation and government of Iraq and the families of the victims on the tragic incident and huge catastrophe of Baghdad’s Ibn Khatib Hospital,” Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said in a tweet.

“I wish divine mercy for the martyrs of this incident and speedy recovery for the injured,” he added.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh also extended the Iranian nation and government’s condolences and deep sympathy to the Iraqi nation and government, especially the families of the victims.

In his Sunday statement, Khatibzadeh also wished divine mercy for the martyrs of the incident, speedy recovery for the injured, and patience and divine rewards for the families of the victims.

At least 82 people were killed and 110 injured in a fire on Saturday at the hospital in southeastern Baghdad that had been equipped to house COVID-19 patients, AP reports.

The fire at the Ibn Khatib hospital in the Diyala Bridge area of the Iraqi capital occurred after an accident caused an oxygen tank to explode, the sources said.

Many ambulances were rushing towards the hospital, ferrying away those hurt by the fire, a Reuters photographer nearby said.

Patients not injured in the incident were also being transferred out of the hospital, the medical sources said.

The head of Iraqi civil defence unit said the fire broke out in the floor designated for the pulmonary intensive care unit and that 90 people have been rescued from the hospital out of 120, state news agency INA quoted him as saying.

Major General Kadhim Bohan added that the fire has been put out.

Iraq’s healthcare system, already ruined by decades of sanctions, war and neglect, has been stretched during the coronavirus crisis.

The total number of people infected with COVID-19 in Iraq is 102,5288 including 15,217 deaths, the health ministry said on Saturday.

Iran Calls for End to Israeli Atrocities against Palestinians

“Stop crimes against Palestinian people and residents of al-Quds,” said Saeed Khatibzadeh on Saturday night.

He praised resistance by Palestinians, especially the residents and youths in al-Quds, against criminal Zionists, urging the international community to take action to halt the Israeli regime’s anti-human rights moves against defenceless Palestinians and Israel’s aggression against holy sites in al-Quds.

Khatibzadeh touched upon Israel’s continued occupation and crimes against Palestinian people, and emphasised the necessity of supporting the resistance front until Palestine is liberated.

“The Palestinian land belongs to Palestinian people, and the Israeli regime is a usurper and occupying regime, and the only way to settle the Palestinian crisis is to hold a referendum among the real residents of Palestinian territories.

Vaziri Cave Museum in Suburban Tehran

The Vaziri Cave Museum was dug into a mountain on the outskirts of Tehran by the late prominent Iranian sculptor Nasser Vaziri.

The Vaziri Cave Museum is Iran’s first private museum.

Ground was broken for the structure in 2005 and the cave took six years to build. The costs were paid by Vaziri.
The cave has concrete walls and contains eight labyrinthine hallways where 50 years of master Vaziri’s experience are put on display.
When the distinguished sculptor was alive, he was always present at the cave museum and explained to visitors about his works of art. The items on show cover a range of visual arts and are all made of recycled materials.
Vaziri Cave Museum, launched in Lavasan a northeastern suburb of Tehran a decade ago, is run by Dr. Nasser Houshmand Vaziri, a top sculptor.
The sculptures on display in the passages of the cave-like structure represent Iranian folklore.
The following images of the Cave Museum, the only museum where photography is allowed, have been released by the Young Journalists Club:

Afshari Chicken Stew: A Gourmet Persian Food

The Afshari chicken stew is, in fact, another name of the Persian chicken pilaf, which is a delicious food served in parties and ceremonies.

Ingredients:

Chicken breast or leg: 6 pieces
Onions: 1 onion
Garlic: 3 cloves
Tomato paste: 3 spoonfuls
Coconut milk: 4 spoonfuls (optional)
Iranian apricot: 10 apricots
Salt, pepper, turmeric, curry powder: as much as necessary
Thick brewed saffron: 1 spoonful
Liquid oil: as much as necessary
Butter: 20gr

Afshari Chicken Stew: A Gourmet Persian FoodRecipe:

1. Put the apricots in water and leave them until they go soft. The secret to making the most delicious chicken in the world for different types of stew or for serving with pilaf or with barberry rice is to simply leave the chicken in salt water for 30 minutes first. Another technique to make the chicken tasty is to put them in a series of materials. For example, you may leave the chicken in onion juice mixed with some thick brewed saffron for on to two hours. These techniques are more effective than boiling the chicken before cooking it.

2. Shred the onions into thin pieces and sauté them in some oil. After the onions turn gold, chop the garlic cloves and add them to the onions. The time when you can detect the smell of garlic in the air, add the chicken pieces plus butter and sauté them. Then add pepper, turmeric, spices and salt and sauté the ingredients all together. Curry powder can make chicken very tasty, so you’d better use it. After the chicken pieces turn gold, immerse them in boiling water. Leave the chicken on low heat until it is cooked through.

3. Meanwhile, sauté tomato paste in some oil until the reek of it goes away. One secret to making the chicken stew thick is to add sautéd tomato paste to it. Add the sautéd tomato paste and apricots to the chicken while it is being cooked. The Afshari chicken stew is a thick type of stew with just a little water.

In the final five minutes of cooking, add coconut milk and, if you wish, some verjuice to the stew. A secret to making the stew delectable is this very coconut milk and, of course, thick brewed saffron.
Like with other types of chicken or meat stew, you may serve the Afshari chicken stew with pilaf or raspberry rice.
