What Fox News Calls ‘Suspicious Nuclear Site’ Was Filming Location: Iran

What Fox News Calls ‘Suspicious Nuclear Site’ Was Filming Location: Iran

“A few days ago, Fox News published an exclusive report, accompanied with satellite images, on unusual activity around Sanjarian site in Jajroud. But the images were in fact related to vehicles and equipment at the filming location of “N. Kh.” TV series and its crew,” tweeted Shahrokh Nazemi, the head of the media office of the Permanent Mission of Iran to the UN.

The Fox News cited joint analysis of satellite images by the Intel Lab and the Institute from Science and International Security. Fox News said the images show 18 vehicles at the site in October 2020. It said a new access road was constructed at Sanjarian site and there were more vehicles and excavations in January 2021, which were then covered up in March.

Nazemi also re-tweeted a post by the ResindScientist page that shared YouTube videos of the site showing the excavation site was used as a TV series filming location.

The page also mentioned the vehicles and the trenches, saying they also appear to be part of the filming.

Ex-President Khatami Urges Reformists to Participate in Iran’s Presidential Vote

“In this cold and desperate atmosphere, and at a time when our society is in need of bliss, hope and enthusiasm to take part in the fateful event, I hope all political and national groups, parties and camps, in this sensitive episode, manage to recognise correctly their responsibility toward the motherland and the people and succeed in fulfilling their responsibility,” Khatami said in a handwritten letter.

Khatami, who led Iran’s reformist government from 1997 to 2005, was addressing his own reformist camp and its supporters.

Last month, a spokesman for the Iranian Reformist Front said they will not be part of the presidential elections as none of their candidates was approved by the Guardian Council to run for president.

Azar Mansouri said in a tweet that “the Reformists are denied the right to actively participate in the elections.”

The Reformist Front picked 14 candidates for the June elections, but seven of them, including Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, refused to sign up, and the remaining seven were all disqualified by the Guardian Council.

Now only two candidates, Mohsen Mehralizadeh and Abdolnaser Hemmati, are left from the moderate/reformist camp, none of whom is among the candidates chosen by the Reformist Front.

Zilu – An Original Artform from Iran’s Desert People

Mahdi Najafian, head of the Ferdows Cultural Heritage Organization, in an interview with the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA), South Khorasan Province, said: “Zilu is a type of rug and floor covering that is woven with thread.

It has major similarities to Hasir mats (made of plant fiber). Zilu is a traditional, historical creation, and one of the original arts of the city of Ferdows. In his travel stories, Nasir Khusraw (1004-1088) mentioned the existence of 400 Zilus in the city of Toon.”

He spoke about the provenance of this artform, saying, “In the weaving and the patterns, Zilu has major similarities to Hasir, mankind’s earliest-known hand-woven item.

It also, like Hasir, was mainly used in holy places like mosques and temples. Therefore, we can surmise that Zilu weaving may have evolved from Hasir weaving, or else perhaps the Zilu industry was inspired by Hasir.”

Most people can tell the difference between Zilu and Kilim, since the two hand-woven products have major differences in their raw materials and also in their weaving styles.

There are complicated weaving techniques in Zilu, ones which are rarely seen in Kilim, or in any other hand-woven product. Zilu, since it’s made of cotton, suits an agricultural and village lifestyle perfectly, whereas Kilim is more adaptable to livestock farming and nomadic lifestyles.

Kilim is made of wool, and is thus suitable for cold regions. Zilu, with cotton thread as its base material, is more appropriate for hot regions, especially on the borders of the desert. It seems, however, that Zilu weaving is at a more developed stage than Kilim.

Zilu mainly uses geometric patterns, and sometimes the designs take the form of inscribed tablets.

Contrary to other Iranian carpet types, Zilu has a limited variety of colours. The colours which are used, like those in other regions, were locally produced.

Generally, Zilu is categorized into three types based on colour and function. White and blue ones are mainly used in mosques and holy places. The red and blue ones are used inside houses, while green and red ones are of the highest quality.

Meybod Zilus

The town of Meybod in the central Iranian province of Yazd is among the major zilu weaving hubs in the country. In December 2018, and after the necessary reviews were conducted, Meybod was introduced as a global town of zilu by the World Crafts Council.

Moreover, the zilu weaving museum at the historical Shah-Abbasi Caravanserai (dating back to the Safavid era) is one of the major attractions of the town.

Some 55 exquisite zilus woven in Meybod are on display at the museum, which is comprised of two sections: the new zilus and the old zilus.

The oldest zilu showcased is the one belonging to the Great Mosque of Meybod. The Zilu dates back more than 615 years.

Vienna Talks Unlikely to Wrap up This Week: Iran

Seyyed Abbas Araqchi said the delegations need more time to sum up their talks.

“Personally, I don’t think we will be able to reach a final conclusion this week,” said Araqchi.

“I believe we need to sum up our discussions at least one more time and take the results to our capitals,” he explained.

“I cannot predict how many days this round of negotiations will take,” said Araqchi.

He noted delegates to the talks have decided to speed up the negotiations and further discuss their differences in the upcoming negotiations to find solutions.

He reiterated that the US should take the first step and lift its sanctions on Iran before Tehran delivers on its obligations.

He said Iran seeks to reach a favourable agreement.

“We are trying to clinch a good and desirable deal for Iran. So, we neither hurry nor waste time in this path,” he underlined.

“Of course, the sooner we reach such an agreement, the better,” he said.

“What is important is that the agreement should contain all the principles that Iran desires,” he added.

He said Iran will not agree to a deal before its main demands are met.

“The US must take the first step, and then Iran will return to its commitments after verifying [the removal of US sanctions,” he told the IRIB news agency.

Larijani Urges Guardian Council to Explain Why He’s Disqualified

In a statement on Saturday, Larijani said the Guardian Council is expected to publicly declare all its reasons for disqualifying him now that it is proved the accusations against him and his family have been false.

“At least adhere to the general policy approved by the Supreme Leader regarding the Guardian Council’s accountability,” he added.

The Guardian Council’s decision to not qualify Larijani, a prominent moderate politician and a close advisor to Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has been widely criticised, even by the conservatives.

The Leader, in a recent speech, suggested the accusations levelled against Larijani were false, and the relevant bodies are expected to “compensate”.

However, in reaction to the Leader’s remarks, the Guardian Council just announced it had not disqualified any of the candidates, including Larijani, based on those reports.

Biden Admin Still Pursuing ‘Maximum Pressure’ Policy against Iran: Envoy

UN Security Council Weakened by US Support for Israel: Iran Envoy

Majid Takht Ravanchi added the United States’ “real political will” to return to the JCPOA becomes clear after Iran verifies that the sanctions have actually been lifted.

“The UN Security Nations Security Council maintained a deadly silence in the early days of 2020 when the United States killed anti-terrorist regional heroes, namely general Soleimani, in a terrorist move upon direct orders by the US president, and several days later when the US president threatened to attack 52 locations, including Iran’s key cultural centres,” said Takht Ravanchi in a speech at the UN General Assembly.

“Of course, in the same year, when the US presented a draft resolution on the imposition of an arms embargo on Iran, 13 UN Security Council members resoundingly rejected it,” he said.

“Afterwards, when the US tried to activate the ‘trigger mechanism’ against Iran, the very same 13 members rejected this US effort and announced the US, by withdrawing from the JCPOA, had lost all right to use the trigger mechanism, and that Washington’s claim in that regard was illegitimate and lacked any legal, political or practical effect,” he added.

He underlined US sanctions have even prevented Iran from using its own financial resources abroad to import medicines.

Tehran Police Commanders Won’t Be Vaccinated Before Officers Are: Cmdr

According to Brigadier General Hossein Rahimi, no police commander is allowed to receive the jab before the end of the inoculation of their subordinates.

“In Tehran’s police, almost 2,000 officers including police station officers, traffic police officers, and other operational staff, have been vaccinated so far,” he noted.

He also urged the Health Ministry to provide the police with more vaccines considering the fact that the Law Enforcement is busier than ever these days ahead of the elections

Iran Denounces US Sanctions as ‘Crime against Humanity’

en-araghchi

“Economic terrorism, especially in the throes of the coronavirus pandemic, amounts to a crime against humanity,” tweeted Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Abbas Araqchi.

“Trump is gone, but his illegal and criminal sanctions are still in effect,” said Araqchi, who is also Iran’s top negotiator in the Vienna talks.

“There is no need to shed crocodile tears when the United States’ efforts to impose suffering and hardship on 82 million Iranians continue,” he added.

Araqchi’s comments came in response to comments by US Special Envoy for Iran Robert Malley.

Iran’s Voting Right Restored after Paying Contribution Arrears to UN

“The Iranian government’s UN contribution and membership fee for more than $16 million has been paid by the CBI,” announced the bank’s Public Relations Office.

The amount was appropriated from Iran’s seized assets in South Korea.

This comes as Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif had earlier slammed the United Nations’ decision to strip Tehran of its right to vote in the 193-member UN General Assembly due to arrears, saying the move showed the UN had ignored the fact that Washington’s sanctions prevented Iran from paying even for food.

“In ‘black is white’ world, UN deprived Iran of its voting rights in the UNGA as we’re in arrears,” Zarif had tweeted days ago.

His comments came one a day after UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres wrote a letter to General Assembly President Volkan Bozkir, saying Iran would need to pay at least 16.251 million dollars to have its voting rights restored.

“Not considered: US Economic Terrorism prevents Iran paying for FOOD, let alone UN dues,” the Iranian top diplomat had underlined.

Also in a previous letter, Zarif had conveyed Iran’s “strong dismay” over Guterres’ announcement, saying the decision was “fundamentally flawed, entirely unacceptable and completely unjustified” because of the US’ illegal sanctions on Iran.
