Iran Slams US Senators’ Call for Denying Visa to President-Elect Raisi

khatibzadeh-Iran

“The US government must pay attention to the fact that it has an inviolable duty as a host to the headquarters of the United Nations in New York. Accordingly, regardless of its disagreements with other countries, it has clear duties as a host and must act within the framework [of its duties],” said Saeed Khatibzadeh.

The calls were made by several hardline senators in a letter to US President Joe Biden. They accused Iranian President-elect Ebrahim Raisi of being a long-standing “violator of human rights”.

“Of course, this is nothing strange and the known Zionist lobby in the US uses every opportunity to level baseless accusations against the Islamic Republic of Iran. They have conducted such measures in the past too,” Khatibzadeh added.

Dozens of Foreign Delegations to Attend Raisi’s Inauguration in Tehran

“These teams at the level of presidents, heads of state, parliament speakers and foreign ministers are heading to Tehran,” said Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeid Khatibzadeh on Sunday.

Prior to the swearing-in ceremony, another ceremony will be held earlier on August 3, where Raisi will be confirmed as the new president by Iran’s Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

Both ceremonies will be held in accordance with health protocols as the country is grappling with the coronavirus pandemic.

The ceremonies will be broadcast live on local radio and TV as well as website and social media networks.

Iran Denies Role in Attack against Israeli-Operated Ship near Oman

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeid Khatibzadeh said Iran is no stranger to such baseless charges.

“The occupying regime of Quds should stop levelling such unfounded accusations. This is not the first time that the occupying regime of Quds is pressing such charges against our country,” said the spokesman.

“Wherever this regime has gone, it has taken with it insecurity, terror and fear. The responsibility for the current situation lies on those who paved the way for the Israeli regime to gain a foothold in the region,” he added.

“Definitely, such remarks are condemned. The Israeli regime cannot solve any of its problems with such blame games,” the spokesman noted.

Iran’s Zarif: No Trust Doesn’t Mean No Interaction

“We have two alternatives through which we can vaccinate ourselves against sanctions. One is through making the world dependent on us, be it through our presence in the global value cycle or [attracting] foreign investment, so that imposing sanctions on us would hurt others. The other is easing the impact of sanctions on Iran, that is, what the leader has called the resistance economy,” Zarif told reporters on the sidelines of the last cabinet meeting of President Rouhani’s administration.

“We trust no one except God and our own people. This is the way to live in this world. But having no trust does not amount to having no interaction.”

The foreign minister also said his ministry did what it took to remove anti-Iran sanctions, but factors outside the government and the country prevented Iran from getting what it sought. He added that removal of sanctions was definitely a key national requirement.

“Without the country putting its faith on foreigners, we, as the diplomatic apparatus, have a duty to remove the [extra] burden from the national economy. We put in some efforts and had some achievements in the first two years [of the government], too. The result was unprecedented growth in the country. But, unfortunately refusal of the Americans to fulfill their obligations [hampered the process],” he said.

“This shows we did our part and factors outside the government and the country prevented us from achieving the result we sought.”

Zarif added that Iran “beat Americans on the nuclear deal”, arguing that after their withdrawal from the accord, the US faced three defeats in the United Nations in two month, and this was “unprecedented”.

He said Iranians, with their resistance, proved to the world that it is the US, and not Iran, that has created the existing problems regarding the nuclear deal, and must change its behavior.

Rouhani

Hassan Rouhani said he and his team tried their utmost, but that there have definitely been some problems.

“We did our best in this regard (procuring basic commodities during the imposed economic war); this does not mean that our work was faultless. There definitely were some defects and we are not infallible; we apologise to people and ask them to forgive us for any possible shortcomings and defects,” he said in the last meeting of the Cabinet ministers of the 12th administration.

“In this meeting, and before the Iranian nation, I would like to thank the first vice-president, all deputies and ministers,” said President Rouhani.

Iran Had No Choice but to Be Self-Reliant in COVID-19 Fight: Rouhani

Next US Administration Should Bow to Iranian Nation’s Will: Rouhani

Speaking on Saturday in the last meeting of the National Task Force Against Coronavirus during his term in office, Rouhani said, “From the very beginning of the outbreak of coronavirus in the country, we had to rely on our own domestic strength.”

“There was no help for Iran, so we had to rely solely on our own domestic resources to provide all the equipment and medicines we needed,” he added.

Rouhani said the decisions of the National Task Force Against Coronavirus have always been based on collective wisdom and reviewed and finalised in several stages in an expert process.

Explaining the problems in fighting the outbreak of coronavirus, Rouhani said, “One of the most important problems in this regard was the creation of dichotomies in various issues. The first one was the dichotomy of science and religion, which was very dangerous, and few tried to put religious teachings against scientific teachings in the way of fighting coronavirus. The Supreme Leader and the top religious authorities and scholars helped a lot in eliminating this dichotomy.”

Referring to the closure of schools and universities during the outbreak of coronavirus, the president said, “Despite the closure of face-to-face education, cyberspace and the IRIB have helped prevent the education of millions of students from stopping.”

The President further mentioned providing and injecting vaccines as one of the achievements of the 12th Government and said, “Preventing the effects of these dichotomies and the self-sacrifice of the medical staff during all this time that has passed since the outbreak of COVID-19 are other highlights of the government’s work.”

The President also pointed out that the government did its best to support those affected by coronavirus, saying, “I must also thank and appreciate the faithful help at various times. The Twelfth Government did its best to combat coronavirus, and the National Task Force Against Coronavirus in the 13th Government will continue to work to combat and control this disease.”

Iran’s Leader Grants Clemency to over 2,800 Prisoners

Ayatollah Khamenei granted amnesty the convicts on the occasion of Eid al-Adha (also known as the Feast of Sacrifice), and Eid al-Ghadeer.

Eid al-Ghadeer is a festive day observed by Shiite Muslims on the 18th of Dhu al-Hijjah in the Islamic calendar to commemorate the appointment of Ali ibn Abi Talib by the Prophet Mohammad (PUBH) as his immediate successor.

Article 110 of the Iranian Constitution grants the Leader the right to pardon or reduce the sentences of convicts upon a recommendation from the head of the judiciary.
