Iran drone-fired cruise missile

The unveiling happened at a drone exhibition of the Iranian Army during a visit by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mohammad Bagheri on Saturday.

The missile dubbed Heydar has a range of 200 kilometers. The projectile hits the target at a speed of 1,000 kilometers per hour.

Heydar is the first Iranian cruise missile that can be fired by a drone. It can be launched by Fotros and Arch-22 UAVs.

Iran has taken long strides in drone and missile capabilities over the past years.

The Islamic Republic has been bolstering its military deterrence amid repeated threats of war by the enemies, most notably the US and its ally the Zionist regime.

Iran shows off underground drone base, unveils new missile

Iran secret drone base

An IRIB News reporter was airlifted from an Air Force base in Kermanshah in Iran’s west to the secret base. No camera crew was allowed and the reporter was blindfolded before entering the site, hundreds of meter “in the heart of the Zagros Mountains.”

Inside, he said, over 100 combat, surveillance, and kamikaze drones were parked. While the aerial vehicles were filmed, none of the drone pilots or other technical personnel were authorized to appear on camera.

“The Islamic Republic’s Armed Forces are the region’s top drone power. There is no doubt about that. Because of the types of the drones and the range of the actions they can carry out,” Iran’s Army Commander Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, who was at the base, told the IRIB reporter.

At a later speech, Major General Mousavi added, “Our greatest achievement is that we are dependent on no one and we procure whatever it is that we need to defend the country and carry out our operations.”

The Iranian Army chief said the upgrading of the military might, including drone power, was “unstoppable.”

Among the drones showcased was the Kaman-22 (Arch-22), which can fly up to a range of at least 2,000 kilometers and carry Haidar cruise missiles, the first cruise missiles to be carried by an unmanned aerial vehicle.

Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri, who was also at the base, said the site was only “the tip of the iceberg” and much of the military capabilities of the country could not be publicized.

Major General Baqeri said drones were the future of armed combat. “The Army is quickly developing its drone power. New drones are being manufactured in the country that can carry out various missions,” he said.

Major General Baqeri said drones were the future of armed combat. “In today’s combats, drones play an increasingly more important role in different defensive, offensive, ground, marine, aerial, and aerial defense, missions and in… annihilation, surveillance, monitoring, electronic warfare, shipment, and dozens of other missions,” he said.

He praised the Army for achieving the capability to manufacture and operate the drones. “The Army is quickly developing its drone power. New drones are being manufactured in the country that can carry out various missions,” he said.

“We never downgrade a threat, we don’t assume the enemy is asleep, our eyes are open, and we are constantly on the watch,” the top Iranian military commander said.

Iran has recently ramped up its manufacture of advanced drones for defense and surveillance purposes.

The general prosecutor of Khuzestan Province said a 7-member special judicial committee has been formed to probe the incident.

Sadegh Jafari Chegeni added that the results of the inquiry into Metropol Building collapse will be announced once it’s complete.

Jafari noted that the Judiciary is resolved to deal with corruption and that anyone who violates the rights of people will be dealt with decisively and according to law.

The official also said all agencies and organizations are obliged to examine buildings whose builders are suspected of failing to completely observe safety standards during their construction so that a similar tragedy will not happen again.

Jafari also said the owner of Metropol Building was the prime suspect in the case.

Jafari underlined that authorities issued an arrest warrant for Hossein Abdolbaghi but later his body was found under the rubble of the collapsed building and a DNA test confirmed his identity.

Iran Police

According to media reports, unidentified gunmen shot and injured the three people including two policemen early in the morning on Saturday on Taleqani Street in downtown Tehran.

The assailants were arrested, the reports added, without giving further details.

One policeman is said to be in critical condition.

Separately, armed bandits fatally shot a police officer in an attack on his personal car in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, which borders Pakistan.

Sistan and Baluchestan’s police chief Ahmad Taheri said Saturday that the assailants, armed with Kalashnikovs, opened fire on the vehicle as the victim, identified as Abbas Rahanjam, and his family were on their way to city of Iranshahr.

The police officer lost his life on the spot and his wife was injured in the attack, he said.

The attackers then escaped the scene.

An investigation has been launched to identify and arrest the perpetrators, according to the official.

Over the past years, Iran’s southeastern regions have on many occasions been the scene of bloody clashes between security forces and armed bandits or drug smugglers, who regularly enter the Iranian soil via the Pakistani border.
