Report: Iranian FM postpones visit to Turkey

Hossein Amir Abdolahian

On Sunday, Turkish media including Turkish official news agency- Anatoly – and the TRT news channel said the top Iranian diplomat was going to visit Turkey on Monday, June 6th.

But some diplomatic sources told Iran’s Tasnim News Agency that Amirabdollahian has delayed the trip for several days.

Turkish media also confirmed the Iranian foreign minister’s trip is off for now.

It’s unclear why the foreign minister delayed his trip. There is no word either about the next date of Amirabdolalhian’s visit.

Tar Halva: Persian Dessert Perfectly Suitable for Ramadan

Tar Halva: Persian Dessert Perfectly Suitable for Ramadan

Tar Halva, which translates to “moist sweets”, was a very popular dessert among the families of Shiraz in the not-too-distant past. It is still on the table in the ceremonies, mourning gatherings, and specifically in the holy month of Ramadan.

The main difference between Tar Halva and the other types of Halva is that it is made with starch, which gives the dessert a stiffer texture and allows it to be easily sliced.

Normally, Tar Halva is made in two colors, white and yellow, which contains saffron. The cooking process usually begins in the evening after Iftar (break of the fast) and goes on until midnight, sometimes until Sahari (the pre-dawn meal consumed early in the morning by Muslims before fasting).

Persian Tar Halva - Iranian Dessert

Ingredients for Shirazi Tar Halva

  • 1 cup starch
  • ½ cup rice flour
  • 6 cup milk
  • 4 cup water
  • 1 cup rosewater
  • 3 cup sugar
  • some saffron
  • nuts for garnish

Ingredients for Shirazi Tar Halva

Tar Halva Recipe

Mix starch and water until the starch dissolves. Mix rice flour and milk. Combine the two mixtures and sieve it. You had better cook Tar Dessert in non-stick or cast-iron cookware to prevent the stuff from sticking to the pot walls and bottom.

Add the mixture of starch, rice flour, water and milk to a pot and stir over medium heat. Tar Halva should be made over low heat, because the raw taste of rice flour should disappear completely.

Tar Halva Recipe (Persian Tar Halva Recipe)

Keep in mind that Tar Halva syrup must be stirred constantly, otherwise the rice flour and starch will immediately settle to bottom of pot and get cooked.

When the mixture is concentrated to some extent, add sugar and rosewater and keep stirring until the mixture is fully concentrated.

The syrup should have a moderate consistency, not too soft, not too hard. Now turn off the heat and divide the mixture in half. Keep one half white and add thick liquid saffron to the other half so that liquid would not float on it anymore.

Making tar halva - Halva (also halvah or halwa)

Tar Dessert must be served in a bevelled dish. First soak the dish with cold water, then add the white base. You can lay the yellow base on the white layer, or serve them in two separate dishes. Garnish each dish with slivered or chopped pistachios.

Set aside so it cools down before putting it in refrigerator. You can slice Tar Halva after a couple of hours. Cut off the rim of the dessert with a knife. Now you can easily slice Tar Halva and take it out of the dish.

Additional Points on Tar Halva:

1. If you forgot to stir your Tar Halva when you should and parts of the ingredients form a mass at the bottom of your pot, empty the entire mixture into another container and use a whisk mixer to whip the curdles before returning the ingredients to the original pot.

Do not add milk or water to the curdled ingredients because there would be no guarantee you will be able to have a proper Tar Halva afterwards.

Additional Points on Tar Halva

1. Why does Tal Halva form cracks?

Many of those who make this halva face the problem of their halva getting cracked up. One of the main reasons for Halva cracking up is that it is put in the refrigerator immediately after it is prepared. This leads to halva cracking up.

Another reason for Halva cracking up is the failure to cover it with a plastic wrap when put in the fridge. And the most important reason for Tar Halva getting cracked up is removing the heat before the mixture is thickened enough.

Khatibzadeh: IAEA resolution against Iran to adversely affect cooperation with Agency

Saeed Khatibzadeh

Saeed Khatibzadeh added Iran will respond proportionately to any action in the IAEA meeting, reiterating that any move against Iran will adversely affect Tehran’s cooperation with the agency.
He said the director general of the IAEA has unfortunately issued a hasty report on Iran that he had earlier given before the European parliament.
Khatibzadeh added that Iran declared at the same time that given the fact that the third round of the bilateral talks was not over yet, the conclusion of the IAEA chief was such that it had been decided in advance the report had to be biased.
He noted, “We have held three rounds of talks up until now and we once gave our views and reposes in writing”.

According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Rafael Grossoi’s report is inaccurate and ignores Iran’s moves and at the same time it seeks to insinuate an unlikely and weird narrative about Iran’s plans, which is mostly based on claims that show footprints of the fake Zionist regime.

Khatibzadeh added that Iran accepts neither the IAEA report nor the efforts by the European troika to push for an anti-Iran resolution at the board of governors.
Khatibzadeh also urged the members of the board to be wary of the Zionist regime’s ill-intentions.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman added, “We wouldn’t prejudge but we will give a proportionate response to any move

Iran building collapse death toll mounts to 41

Iran building collapse

Ehsan Abbaspour, the governor of Khuzestan Province’s deputy, said the bodies of the victims were identified by next of kin.

The deputy governor added rescue operation is still ongoing as more people are feared to have been trapped under the rubble of the ten-storey Metropol commercial building that partially collapsed on May 23.

The exact number of people trapped under the rubble is unknown, but unofficial figures put it at over 80.

As families of the victims are desperate for answers, Iranian officials have asserted that those responsible for the incident will be brought to justice after an inquiry into the case.

Faulty construction practices have been blamed for the collapse of the recently-constructed building, but an investigation is underway to decide what caused the incident.

Authorities say, the owner of the building is also among the dead.

Iran, Afghanistan seek to boost trade ties

Iran Trade

The delegation, headed by Iran’s deputy ambassador to Afghanistan Hassan Mortazavi was invited by the Governor of Khost Mohammad Nabi Omari to help pave the way for the presence of Iranian businessmen in the country.

This is the first trip by an Iranian delegation since the fall of the former Afghan government after the chaotic withdrawal of US-led troops and the Taliban takeover last August.

The Iranian diplomat and his entourage were taken on a tour the economic sites in the province by the Afghan officials, who expressed support for opening a new chapter in ties between the two sides.

Meanwhile, the Iranian delegation distributed humanitarian aid in the province among the people, hit hard by the fallout of the Western freeze on billions of dollars worth of Afghan assets.

Iran tourism: Beautiful palm groves of Qasreshirin

Qasreshirin

The most important dates that grow in Qasreshirin’s palm groves are: Zahedi, Arzagh, Khazravi, Jafari and Ashrasi. The most famous date of Qasreshirin is Ashrasi though. The area is the only latitude in Iran where this type of date is harvested.

The city of Qasreshirin is located 166 kilometers west of the city of Kermanshah and is 400 meters above the sea level. Qasreshirin is one of the most important western gates of Iran and it always hosts guests from across the country.

The city is located on the way to the holy shrines in Iraq. Hence, various pilgrim caravans pass through Qasreshirin.

Geographical position of Qasreshirin

Qasreshirin is bounded to the north and south by Iraq, from south by Iran’s Ilam Province, and from east by the cities of Sar Pole Zahab and Gilangharab. Qasreshirin lies on the main road from Tehran to Baghdad and its people speak Kurdish.

Gorgeous nature with palm trees

Qasreshirin is the most tropical city of Kermanshah (Wikipedia) and is located in the west of the province. It’s always been popular due to the tall palm trees in the city and also the high diversity of its agricultural crops.

During the imposed war, the Ba’athist regime of Iraq brutally pounded Qasreshirin. Nearly four decades after that tragic period, the palm trees of the city are still a telltale sign of those days and show the oppression the people of Qasreshirin endured at the time.

But the significance and beauty of Qasreshirin is not just about the tragic history of the imposed Iraqi war and even its gorgeous and rich groves. The important historical monuments of this city are among the attractions of Qasreshirin though they were destroyed to some extent during the war.

Important historical monuments of Qasreshirin

Most of the city’s historical monuments date back to the reign of the Sassanid kings. Qasreshirin is one of the ancient and historical cities of Kermanshah Province and historical and literary works say that it was built at the order of Sassanid King Khosro Parviz.

During his rule, Khosro Parviz ordered the construction of a big garden with beautiful palaces that were suitable for the wintry climate of Qasreshirin.

The most famous archeological sites of Qasreshirin are Chahartaghi (the quadrangle) and Emarat (the mansion). Shah Abbasi Caravanserai and Javamir Castle are the other historical monuments of the city.

Other beautiful places of Qasreshirin include: Chahar Qapu, Khosro’s Sassanid Palace, Hoshkeri, Qasreshirin Caravanserai and Shah Gdar Creek.

This caravanserai is inside the city of Qasreshirin. Unfortunately, this monument was heavily damaged as a result of attacks by the Ba’athist regime during the imposed war.

Qasreshirin-Caravanserai

Now only the entrance to the caravanserai remains but in recent years, Iran’s cultural heritage organization has been trying to repair the caravanserai.

It was built using bricks and rocks. Even in some sections of its entrance, bricks of Sassanid monuments were used.

Chahar Qapu Fire Temple

Chahar Qapu or Chahar Qapi means “four-door”. This is one of the fire temples of the Sassanid era in the border city of Qasreshirin.

The fire temple is one with a tawaf corridor. Unfortunately, over time, its portico has tumbled down. But in some sections, traces of the portico are visible. Chahar Qapu was made using local construction materials like stone carcasses and gypsum mortar.

The dome of the temple fire was however made of bricks. Most archaeologists believe that the monument is a fire temple dating back to the time of Sassanid king Khosro Parviz, but some also assert that it’s a palace of that era.

Khosro’s Palace in Qasreshirin

The ruins of Khsoro Parviz’s Palace are visible on the northern suburb of the city of Qasreshirin. It’s near Chahar Qapu Fire Temple and is no more than a mound of soil. Khsoro Parviz’s Palace was built on an 8-meter high platform.

Iranian and Arab historians and geographers have all written about the monument. They mostly maintain that the palace was built by Khosro Parviz in the middle of a huge garden where wild animals lived freely and a lot of water from Alvand River flowed into the garden through a high canal.

Khsoro Parviz’s Palace is said to be one of the world’s wonders that was destroyed by Eastern Roman Emperor Heraclius in 628 A.D.

Daily to Raisi administration: Prove that you’re efficient

Iran food prices

“These days, the economic pressure of inflation, especially due to the rising food prices, has affected people and they are shocked and apprehended as the prices take away their peace of mind,” Khorassan wrote in an article.

The daily, known as a pro-government newspaper, argued, “Considering four consecutive years of high inflation from 2018 to 2021, today inflation should be regarded as the most worrying problem of the country’s economy,” and added people’s overall judgment of the incumbent administration hinges on the achievements by the president’s economic team in this area.

Khorassan blamed the monetary base and liquidity for the runaway inflation and advised the cabinet to take more serious steps to reform the traditional banking system and offset the budget deficit.

Highlighting the social aspects of the economic hardships, the newspaper suggested that the administration can provide a promising outlook by assuring the nation that the cabinet can efficiently deal with the situation and by showing the bright side of its foreign policy, especially in the face of the country’s standoff with the West over a nuclear deal.

The latest data released by the Statistical Center of Iran show that the average food inflation in the month to May 21 stood at 49.6%.

Sanctions imposed by the West, the Covid-19 pandemic, and more recently, the conflict in Ukraine are cited as the main factors behind the inflation.

Saudi Arabia seizes Yemen-bound fuel ship in violation of truce

Yemen Oil Tanker

Essam al-Mutawakel, a spokesman for the YPC, said in a tweet on Sunday the Saudi-led coalition seized the ship named Viviana, which was carrying 30,314 tons of fuel, despite securing UN clearance.

The latest incident brings to two the number of fuel ships impounded by the coalition despite having undergone inspection, al-Mutawakel added.

On Friday, al-Mutawakel stated a vessel called Fos Power, that was carrying about 30,000 tons of fuel, was impounded by the coalition.

The Fos Power tanker, which was due to dock at Yemen’s western port of Hudaydah, was carrying 22,915 tons of mazut and 7,296 tons of diesel fuel, according to al-Mutawakil.

He noted that the Saudi-led coalition is brazenly pressing ahead with its acts of piracy against fuel tankers carrying oil derivatives to Yemen.

The kingdom has maintained a blockade on the war-torn country, where the population is in dire need of basic supplies such as food and medicine. Riyadh imposed the blockade in 2015, the same year that it began to lead a war on its southern neighbor.

A ceasefire, announced by UN special envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg and welcomed by the warring sides, went into force on April 2. The truce stipulates halting offensive military operations and the siege on Yemen.

However, the Yemeni side reported violations of the truce by the Saudis soon after it began.

Saudi Arabia launched a devastating war on Yemen in March 2015 in collaboration with its Arab allies and with arms and logistics support from the US and other Western states.

The objective was to reinstall the Riyadh-friendly regime of Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and crush the Ansarullah resistance movement, which has been running state affairs in the absence of a functional government in Yemen.

While the Saudi-led coalition has failed to meet its objectives, the war has killed hundreds of thousands of Yemenis and spawned the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

Official: Covid not over yet; masks still necessary

COVID in Iran

Ahmad Tabatabaei says the coronavirus pandemic is not over stressing that such moves in a popular TV show creates a “false trust” in the public and exposes people to infection.

Iranian health officials have been warning the public against going back to normal as they say the pandemic persists.

The spokesman for the National Taskforce Against the Coronavirus now says no new variant of the virus is traced in the country adding that no new concern is expected to in the world at least for the next two months.

Abbas Shir Ojan, however, says new variants are likely to emerge in the future as a large proportion of the people around the world remain unvaccinated.

This, he said, keeps the cycle of Covid alive.

Iran experienced zero-deaths in the Covid fatalities a few days ago while the infection cases remain two-digit, the first time since the start of the pandemic in the country in early 2020.
