Israel has crumbled: Iran’s foreign minister

Amirabdollahian Haniyeh

“There is no doubt that the Palestinian nation and resistance are the definitive winner on the battlefield,” Amirabdollahian told Haniyeh.

The Iranian minister added that the Zionist regime has collapsed, and the definitive result of this battle is nothing but the decisive victory of the Palestinian nation and resistance.

The top Iranian diplomat noted that the region is at the juncture of making a crucial decision.

He said: “The resistance groups in the region make decisions and do not necessarily wait for political decisions. Therefore, if the war crimes of the Zionist regime continue and the scope of conflict and war expands, no party will be unaffected by its implications and consequences.”

Amirabdollahian added that despite advising others to exercise self-restraint, the US government is actually a party to the war and is not in a position to invite others to do so.

The Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs pointed to the support votes of the countries of the world for Palestine in the recent session of the United Nations General Assembly, as well as the unprecedented anti-Israel demonstrations and gatherings of people in various countries of the region as well as in Europe and America.

He added this indicates the peak of global hatred towards the Zionist regime and its supporters, as well as the worldwide extent of the supporters of the Palestinian nation.

Amirabdollahian also briefed Haniyeh and other political officials of the Hamas movement on the diplomatic efforts of the Islamic Republic of Iran at the regional and international levels and the United Nations, as well as some initiatives at the level of Islamic countries in support of Palestine to end the war crimes of the regime Zionism and break the inhuman blockade against Gaza.

Haniyeh, for his part, touched on the latest developments in Gaza, especially the unprecedented crimes committed by the Zionist regime against the Gazans.

He said: “The Battle of Al-Aqsa draws the pages of the honor of Palestine and the Islamic Ummah.”

Haniyeh added that the Palestinian resistance movement follows up on the valuable efforts of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the President and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran at the regional and international levels, and the United Nations to support the Palestinian nation.

He stated: “We express our and that of the Palestinian nation’s heartfelt gratitude for these efforts.”

The head of the political bureau of Hamas added that the Palestinian resistance is at the peak of its power and authority.

He said: “Therefore, instead of engaging with the resistance forces, the occupying regime continues to have on its agenda the launching of attack on Palestinian citizens. The amount of explosives used against the citizens and residential areas of Gaza is greater than the amount of the American atomic bomb in Hiroshima, and these attacks are being carried out with the full support of the United States and some European countries.”

Haniyeh stressed that the action of the United States in sending its ships and troops to the region and warning others is aimed at further enabling the Zionists to press ahead with their barbaric crimes in Gaza.

Thousands of Afghan refugees flee Pakistan as deadline looms

Afghanistan Poverty

Pakistan’s interim interior minister, Sarfaraz Bugti, issued an October 31 deadline for all “illegal” refugees and migrants to leave, citing security concerns.

The government announced more than four million foreigners live in Pakistan, a vast majority of them Afghan nationals who sought refuge over the last four decades after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in the 1980s.

More recently, after the Taliban regained power in 2021, Pakistani officials say between 600,000 to 800,000 Afghans migrated to Pakistan.

The Pakistani government claims nearly 1.7 million of those Afghans are undocumented.

Local media reports on Tuesday said nearly 100,000 Afghan immigrants have voluntarily gone back to their country from Torkham border crossing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Chaman crossing in Balochistan provinces this month.

Bugti on Monday denied the repatriation drive was targeted against the Afghans.

“Most of the undocumented people are from Afghanistan, and the impression that only people from Afghanistan are being evicted is wrong,” he told a news conference.

The government is also setting up deportation centres in all four provinces to detain foreigners until they are sent back. Rights groups and the United Nations have slammed Pakistan’s decision to evict the refugees.

The deportation order came during a dramatic surge in armed attacks in Pakistan, which the government blames on Afghanistan-based groups and nationals, allegations denied by the Afghan Taliban.

“There have been 24 suicide bomb attacks since January this year and 14 of them were carried out by Afghan nationals,” Bugti stated on October 3 when he announced the repatriation plan.

Pakistan has reported more than 300 attacks this year, mainly in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and southwestern Balochistan provinces bordering Afghanistan.

Adeela Akhtar, an Afghan refugee in Rawalpindi, told Al Jazeera she had “no idea what tomorrow [Wednesday] will bring” for her.

“If the police come to my door tomorrow, I will plead with them, implore them to let me stay. I cannot go back, but I don’t know how else to convince them to let me stay here,” added the 47-year-old widow and a mother of two children.

Akhtar, a former school teacher in Kabul, moved to Pakistan 18 months ago after the Taliban took over as she feared for her safety. She said she applied for the Pakistani visa and made multiple visits to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) office for securing documentation to facilitate her stay, but did not get any help.

“I have two children living here with me and I don’t want to put their lives in danger again,” she noted.

Asad Khan, an Islamabad-based lawyer who provides legal aid to Afghan refugees, criticised the government’s move, saying it violated their fundamental rights.

“Pakistan’s constitution guarantees the dignity of man, and the same applies to refugees, too. We can say that under certain international laws, which have been ratified by Pakistan, sending these people back is illegal,” he told Al Jazeera.

Khan said removing Afghans who had been living in Pakistan for many years – and even decades – would be “deeply disruptive” to their lives.

“They have built homes, families and livelihoods here in Pakistan and now returning to Afghanistan surely poses significant challenges for them. The security situation in Afghanistan remains uncertain, economic opportunities are scarce, and access to essential services like healthcare and education is limited,” he added.

“Above all, the psychological toll of returning to a war-torn country cannot be understated. It is imperative that any such policy carefully considers the wellbeing and safety of these refugees and adheres to international obligations to protect vulnerable populations.”

In a statement on Tuesday, Human Rights Watch condemned Pakistan’s decision and said the government was using “threats, abuse, and detention to coerce Afghan asylum seekers without legal status to return to Afghanistan or face deportation”.

“Pakistan’s announced deadline for Afghans to return has led to detentions, beatings, and extortion, leaving thousands of Afghans in fear over their future,” said Fereshta Abbasi, the Afghanistan researcher at HRW.

“The situation in Afghanistan remains dangerous for many who fled, and deportation will expose them to significant security risks, including threats to their lives and well-being.”

Iranian migration observatory: Iran tops global immigration rates

The OECD Migration Yearbook of 2023 spotlighted a striking surge in Iranian asylum applications, with Iranians topping the list in various host countries.

Among the most notable figures disclosed, Iranians claimed the top spot for new asylum applications in Australia, showcasing a staggering 266% increase with 1,916 applications in 2022, compared to 846 in 2021.

Moreover, Germany witnessed a remarkable influx with 6,320 new applications from Iranians in 2022, marking a substantial 234% surge from 2,695 applications the previous year.

This record-breaking trend solidifies Iran’s position as a prominent source of global migration, reflecting a significant rise in Iranians seeking asylum in various nations, highlighting a pivotal shift in global migration patterns, the observatory said.

Iran calls for seizing “last political opportunities” to stop Israel’s war on Gaza

Amirabdollahian Qatari Emir

Amirabdollahian highlighted the power of the resistance to stand up and strongly fight against the Zionist regime’s army and the regime’s failure to confront the Palestinian resistance forces.

He said, due to the savage attacks by the Zionists against the oppressed citizens of the Gaza Strip, the humanitarian situation in the territory is deplorable.

He also raised the alarm over the unpredictable consequences of the Zionists’ war crimes which are being perpetrated with the support of the US administration and some European governments.

The top diplomat added the Islamic world should send a strong message to the Zionist regime, and further stated that a common and unified stance by Islamic countries in support of the Palestinian nation has to be materialized in the practical and executive domains so Muslim states can use all their power to end the Zionist regime’s war crimes and genocide against the oppressed people of Palestine and remove the siege on people in Gaza.

“As a result of the ongoing crimes by the Zionist regime against the defenseless people of and the total blockade on Gaza, we are witnessing a gradual increase in reactions as well as the escalation and spread of the scope of conflicts in the region,” he noted.

“It is natural that resistance factions and movements will not remain silent in the face of all these crimes and the United States’ full support for the Zionist regime and they will not wait for advice from anyone ,” Amirabdollahian continued.

“We must use the last political opportunities to stop the war, and in case the situation spirals out of control, no side will be immune to the fallout,” the minister advised.

For his part, Sheikh Tamim said he was pleased with the meeting, adding the consultations between Iran and Qatar are important and would continue within the framework of the interests of both countries and the interests of the regional states and nations, including in support of the oppressed Palestinian nation.

The Emir of Qatar stated the Zionist regime’s ongoing crimes against the Palestinian citizens in Gaza are unacceptable and intolerable for all the nations of the world.

“The massive anti-Israeli rallies by people in many countries in the world, including in the US, were a sign of global indignation at these crimes,” he stressed.

He added that Qatar would continue its efforts to put an end to the Israeli regime’s ongoing strikes against Gaza to stop the war.

Iranian MP under fire for ‘detestable’ behavior before teachers

Asr-e Iran news website, in an article on Tuesday, blamed the Guardian Council’s ‘malfunctioning’ vetting system that is tasked with qualifying the candidates for parliamentary elections.

Alireza Monadi in a video, that has gone viral, is seen ignoring the teachers while they are letting him in on their problems by eating nuts, swiveling in his chair or reading some papers on his desk.
Many have likened his conceited behavior to a feudal landlord who looks down on peasants.

Asr-e Iran also wrote Monadi, who only received 90,000 votes in the northwestern Iranian city of Tabriz with a population of over 1.6 million people, is the result of the of faulty vetting that has made the elections non-competitive by filtering out competent candidates.

“In competitive elections with high turnout and with the role of parties and elites, people like Alireza Monadi Sefidan have no chance to get in (to the parliament), and even if they do and they behave like this, the parties and their affiliated organization will force them to apologize,” the website noted.

Asr-e Iran, in conclusion, called for opening up the space for more candidates so people can have a wider range to choose from.

Israel has dropped over 18,000 tons of explosives on Gaza: Report

Gaza War

“The Israeli occupation army has dropped more than 18,000 tons of explosives on the Gaza Strip since its aggression started 24 days ago,” the Government Media Office in Gaza said in a Monday statement.

It added that 10,000 people have been either killed or are still missing as a result of the intensive bombardment by the regime, which has caused large-scale devastation as well.

The office noted 50 tons of explosives have been dropped on every kilometer in Gaza Strip so far.

Israel waged its bloody war on the Gaza Strip on October 7 after Palestinian resistance movements based there launched a surprise attack, dubbed Operation al-Aqsa Storm, against the occupying entity.

Since the start of the war, the Israeli regime has been committing war crimes in Gaza, killing more than 8,300 Palestinians, most of them women and children.

It has also imposed a complete siege on the territory, cutting off fuel, electricity, food and water to more than two million Palestinians living there.

Ukraine’s Zelensky ‘feels betrayed’ by west, becomes robotic in behavior: Report

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky

Zelensky feels “betrayed” by his Western backers, who have denied him the support and attention he has grown used to, his aides told Time magazine. According to the report, published on Monday, the president’s circle now see him as “delusional” and the conflict with Russia as impossible to win.

Zelensky and his advisors spoke to the US magazine after the Ukrainian president visited Washington last month. Unlike the hero’s welcome he received last December, the most recent visit saw Zelensky grilled about corruption in Ukraine and forbidden from addressing lawmakers on Capitol Hill.

Despite US President Joe Biden’s pledge to support Kiev “for as long as it takes”, Congress has failed to agree on a new aid bill for Ukraine. Ten days after Zelensky returned to Kiev from Washington, lawmakers managed to pass a spending bill to avert a government shutdown, but only after stripping $6 billion in Ukraine funding from it.

“Zelensky feels betrayed by his Western allies. They have left him without the means to win the war, only the means to survive it,” Time wrote, citing a member of his team.

“The scariest thing is that part of the world got used to the war in Ukraine,” Zelensky said, adding, “Exhaustion with the war rolls along like a wave. You see it in the United States, in Europe. And we see that as soon as they start to get a little tired, it becomes like a show to them: ‘I can’t watch this rerun for the 10th time’.”

Zelensky told Time that he still believes that his forces can defeat Russia on the battlefield, and that he will not entertain any negotiations with Moscow, despite Ukraine’s summer counteroffensive failing to achieve its objectives and resulting in what the magazine called “enormous losses”. According to the most recent Russian figures, the Ukrainian military lost more than 90,000 men between early June and the beginning of this month.

“He deludes himself,” one of Zelensky’s closest aides told Time, adding, “We’re out of options. We’re not winning. But try telling him that.”

The outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war has drawn the attention of the West away from Kiev in recent weeks, with the Pentagon surging troops and weapons to the Middle East and US House Speaker Mike Johnson prioritizing a vote on military aid to the Jewish state instead of Ukraine.

“It’s logical,” Zelensky told Time, adding that while “the world’s help is needed” in Israel, “we lose out.”

Leaked document discloses Israel plans total transfer of Gaza inhabitants into Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula

Gaza War

The document published on Monday by WikiLeaks on its official page on the social media X showed that the Israeli officials were in favor of forced displacement of civilians from Gaza to North Sinai because of the “positive and long term strategic results” the strategy could entail.

WikiLeaks said the document had been issued by Israel’s ministry of intelligence on October 13, nearly a week after the regime launched a brutal military campaign against Gaza in response to attacks by Gaza-based resistance movement Hamas.

The advisory document said forced displacement of people from Gaza to Sinai could take place in three stages in which tent cities are built in the desert region before a humanitarian corridor is opened to allow the Gazans flee from a territory which is under attacks and a siege by Israel.

A final stage of the plan would entail construction of cities in North Sinai to prevent a return of the displaced Palestinians to Gaza.

Parts of the text of the document, which is in Hebrew, said Israel should urge the international community to join and support the plan while launching a targeted campaign for residents of Gaza to “encourage them to agree to the program.”

The document recommended the so-called security apparatus of the Israeli regime to carry out a full transfer of more than 2.3 million people in Gaza to Sinai, adding the option would be the best of three alternative strategies to deal with the future of the Palestinians living in Gaza.

Arab countries have previously warned that an influx of Palestinian refugees fleeing the war would be unacceptable because it would amount to the expulsion of Palestinians from their land.

More than 8,000 people have been killed in over three weeks of Israeli assaults on Gaza.

OIC says Israel ‘butchering’ Gazans

Gaza War

Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha said in a statement on Monday the Israeli airstrikes have also resulted in “wounding innocent civilians, including women, children, medical personnel and journalists”.

Israeli forces have “deliberately carried out attacks on hospitals, schools, places of worship, and United Nations facilities”, he added.

The OIC chief stated the Israeli attacks on hospitals in Gaza and the total blockade of the territory constitute “collective punishment, war crimes, and flagrant violation of international law.”

Taha once again called on the international community to intervene and work for an immediate end to Israel’s savagery.

Israel launched the war on the Palestinian territory on October 7. The regime has also cut off fuel, electricity, food and water to more than two million Palestinians living in the coastal territory. Israel has killed more than 8,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, ever since.

The bloody war machine ignited when the regime was caught off-guard by Operation Al-Aqsa Storm by the resistance movement Hamas on that October day.

Ravina Shamdasani, the spokesperson for the United nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), said last week the UN body was “concerned that war crimes are being committed” in the Gaza Strip.

Lebanese PM says escalation of Israel-Hamas war could plunge Middle East into chaos

Lebanon PM

“I see that there is a real race between a ceasefire in Gaza and escalation, because escalation is not only affecting Lebanon, and I fear that escalation will spread to the whole region, plunging the Middle East into chaos,” Mikati said in a video interview with AFPTV.

As the war in Gaza intensifies, Hezbollah continues firing rockets toward Israel and Israeli strikes target southern Lebanon, Mikati also stressed his country is at the “heart of the storm … but has lived through all the wars of the region and, on the contrary, Lebanon has been the most resilient”.

Lebanon has also been the site of protests as thousands rallied in support of Palestinians in Gaza following Israel’s siege and strikes on the enclave.

Mikati also told AFP news agency in an interview that he is doing his duty to prevent Lebanon from entering the war.

“For now Hezbollah has managed the situation rationally and wisely, and the rules of the game have remained constrained to certain limits,” Mikati stressed.

Amid the conflict in the Gaza Strip between Israeli troops and Hamas, tension has flared along the border between the Israeli-occupied territories and Lebanon, with exchanges of fire between Israeli forces and Hezbollah.

Hezbollah and the Israeli regime have been exchanging sporadic fire since October 8, a day after the Zionist regime started bringing the Palestinian territory of the Gaza Strip under a relentless and indiscriminate war.

The Lebanese resistance movement has announced the group’s “guns and rockets” were with Palestinian fighters, and stressed that it will intensify its attacks against Israel if necessary.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has recently told senior Israeli officials that Hezbollah is “ten times stronger than Hamas”, Israel’s Kan public broadcaster has reported.

US President Joe Biden and his aides have advised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to launch pre-emptive strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon, The New York Times daily newspaper has reported.

Hezbollah has already fought off two Israeli wars against Lebanon in 2000 and 2006, forcing a humiliating retreat upon the Tel Aviv regime’s military in both cases.

The resistance movement has vowed to resolutely defend Lebanon in case of any Israeli-imposed war.
