Iran Trade

According to Rezvanifar, the non-oil trade volume with these neighboring nations, encompassing both imports and exports, increased by 5% in weight and 15% in value compared to the same period last year.

He further detailed that, of the total trade, 39 million tons worth $15.6 billion were exports, while imports accounted for 11 million tons valued at $17 billion.

During this period, non-oil exports to the 15 neighboring countries rose by 4% in weight and 12% in value compared to the first half of the previous year.

Rezvanifar also highlighted that imports from these countries increased by 8% in weight and 18% in value during the first six months of this year.

Among the top trading partners, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Iraq, Pakistan, and the Russian Federation were the main neighboring countries engaged in trade with Iran during this period.

50 children among 558 killed in Israeli attacks on Lebanon: Health ministry

Lebanon War

“The death toll has risen to 558, including 50 children and 94 women,” the minister said, adding at least 1,835 people were wounded, and 54 hospitals are treating the patients.

“Four paramedics have been killed and 16 wounded.”

“We remain in the war and remain in the throes of the attacks. Our responsibilities have not ended,” Abiad stated as Israel continued its attacks on Tuesday.

Israeli strikes have also forced thousands of people to flee their homes, especially in southern Lebanon.

Tel Aviv has markedly intensified its attacks against the country since October 7, when it launched a genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.

Hezbollah resistance movement has responded with numerous strikes against the occupied Palestinian territories as a means of both retaliating against the regime and displaying support for the war-hit Gazans.

Israel’s shift of focus was initiated in a wave of unprecedented attacks. On Tuesday and Wednesday, thousands of pagers and other devices exploded in Beirut targeting Hezbollah’s rank and file members, as well as civilians, sending shockwaves across the country.

At least 37 people were killed and more than 3,000 were wounded in the blasts. These were widely blamed on Israel which has neither confirmed nor denied responsibility.

On Friday, an Israeli strike killed a senior commander of Hezbollah’s Radwan unit, and the second-in-command of the group’s armed force Ibrahim Aqil. The strike in the Beirut suburb of Dahiyeh killed at least 45 people, including 10 civilians.

Russia comments on Ukraine ‘victory plan’

Russia Ukraine War
A woman reacts as she stands with her son in front of a memorial with the names of civilians killed by Russian troops during their occupation of Bucha, north of Kyiv, on July 3.

Zelensky announced last week that he had concluded work on a proposal that could end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine by the end of this year if the West makes “quick decisions” on boosting its support for Kiev.

The Ukrainian leader is currently in the US, where he plans to present his initiative to President Joe Biden, to members of Congress, and to both 2024 election presidential contenders – Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

When asked by journalists on Monday about Zelensky’s proposals, Peskov said that the authorities in Moscow “believe that it is impossible to conduct any analysis based on media reports.”

“If some information appears from official sources, of course we will study it.”

At the moment, Russia has a “very reserved” attitude towards the Ukrainian leader’s initiative because “there is a lot of different information, including contradictory information, unreliable information” about it, Peskov explained.

According to a report in the Sunday Times, Zelensky’s ‘victory plan’ has four key clauses, such as Western security guarantees for Ukraine similar to NATO’s principle of collective defense, the continuation of Kiev’s incursion into Russia’s Kursk Region to serve as a territorial bargaining chip, deliveries of “specific” advanced weapons by foreign backers, and international financial aid for Ukraine.

Earlier on Monday, Russia’s first deputy permanent representative to the UN, Dmitry Polyansky, stated that Moscow has no idea about the contents of Zelensky’s proposals and that it had not been invited to discuss them.

“It is hard for us to understand what is on the madman’s mind,” he stressed.

Polyansky acknowledged that there is “a lot of hype” about the Ukrainian leader’s trip to the US and “about what he will or will not offer”.

During the visit, Zelensky is also scheduled to address the UN General Assembly annual meeting, which will take place in New York on Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Sunday, Peskov was asked about the possible outcome of the conflict between Moscow and Kiev, replying that “there is no alternative to our [Russian] victory”.

Archaeologists: Petrochemical pollutants stifling Iran’s Persepolis to death

Iran’s Persepolis

The growth of lichen on the historical heritage was already a threat to the inscriptions and motifs of the monument, and in recent times chemical pollutants from a nearby petrochemical complex have had a direct impact on the growth of the colony of algae, expediting the destruction.

The alarm was raised in a conference titled “The role of the local community in the sustainable development of Persepolis” held on Thursday in Marvdasht county, where the UNESCO-designated site is located.

Archaeologists told the event that the ammonia gases and nitrogenous compounds emitted from the petrochemical complex had direct destructive effects, warning in case the complex is not shut down, it would have irreversible damage on the millennia-old site.

Experts attending the conference also warned that the valuable historical site has been facing several other destructive factors, including subsidence.

Persepolis or Takht-e Jamshid, as it is known in Persian, was the magnificent and ceremonial capital of the kingdom of Persia, today’s Iran, during the Achaemenid Empire (c. 550–330 BC).

The ancient city houses the ruins of a palace which was built during the reign of Darius the Great, Xerxes, and Ardeshir I, and was inhabited for about 200 years.

Lebanon must not become “another Gaza”: President Pezeshkian tells CNN

Pezeshkian CNN

“The danger does exist that the fire of events that are taking place (in Lebanon) will expand to the entire region,” Pezeshkian said.

When asked whether Iran will counsel Hezbollah to restrain itself in its response to Israeli raid, Pezeshkian stressed Hezbollah is facing a regime “armed to the teeth and has access to weapons systems that are far superior to anything else”.

“Hezbollah cannot do that alone. Hezbollah cannot stand alone against Israel that is being defended and supported and supplied by Western countries, European countries, and the United States of America,” he added.

The president warned that events could spiral into a regional conflict, which “can be dangerous for the future of the world and planet Earth itself, so we must prevent the ongoing criminal acts being committed by Israel”.

Israel launched hundreds of airstrikes on southern and eastern Lebanon on Monday, killing at least 492 people, including 35 children, and wounding 1,645 others, the health ministry has confirmed.

The escalation comes after intense Israeli strikes last week that killed top Hezbollah commanders in Lebanon. The regime is also accused of detonating pager and handheld radio devices in Lebanon last week, killing at least 37 people and wounding thousands.

Tel Aviv has markedly intensified its attacks against the country since October 7, when it launched a genocidal war on the Gaza Strip which has so far killed almost 41,500, mostly women and children.

Hezbollah has responded with numerous strikes against the occupied Palestinian territories as a means of both retaliating against the regime and displaying support for the war-hit Gazans.

In New York: President Pezeshkian calls for Gaza ceasefire

Pezeshkian UN

The chief executive made the remarks on Monday, addressing the United Nations Summit of the Future: Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow in New York.

“Cessation of the [Israeli] occupation and apartheid in Palestine and immediate ceasefire in Gaza are preconditions for international development and peace,” he said.

“In a world where civilians are being killed ruthlessly in Gaza, blind state terrorism sheds the blood of children and women, and genocide and assassination is being supported, [conclusion of] no document would serve to guarantee peace and development,” the president added.

The Israeli regime claimed existence in 1948 after occupying huge swathes of regional territories during a Western-backed war. It occupied more land, namely the West Bank, including East al-Quds, and the Gaza Strip, in another such war in 1967.

Ever since, it has been enforcing an apartheid system in the West Bank by building hundreds of settlements and deploying the most aggressive restrictions on the movements of Palestinians there. Tel Aviv withdrew from Gaza in 2005, but has been keeping the coastal territory under an all-out land, aerial, and naval siege since a year after it left the territory.

The regime has also subjected Gaza to several wars, the most recent among which is still raging on since commencement last October. The brutal military onslaught has so far claimed the lives of at least 41,455 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and wounded 95,878 others.

Pezeshkian said Iran demanded elimination of weapons of mass destruction from the region without any preconditions.

“Iran demands a strong, united, safe, and stable region, where the resources of the regional countries are used for [bringing about] synergy towards [realization of] economic and social development and disposal of common problems,” he added.

Citing an instance of Iran’s contribution to regional stability, he mentioned the Islamic Republic’s having invariably served as a leading force in fighting terrorism, and said the country was prepared for cooperation with other countries, which were similarly after “real confrontation” with the evil phenomenon.

The president, meanwhile, addressed the issue of the unilateral sanctions that have been imposed on the Islamic Republic and some other countries on the part of the United States and its allies.

“Unilateral sanctions stop realization of sustainable development goals,” he continued, adding, “This fact has to be included in whatever document that is being prepared for the future.”

Pezeshkian proposed that UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres present the world body’s General Assembly with a comprehensive report on the issue of the sanctions that is compiled in cooperation with the countries that have been subjected to the economic measures.

“Achievement of peace and development requires respect for the countries’ right to development…and adherence to the principles of fairness and implementation of the developed countries’ commitments towards the developing ones,” he asserted.

Pezeshkian demanded immediate reformation of the ruling structure of the international financial institutions towards guaranteeing inclusion of developing countries in decision-making and norm-making processes and emergence of a just system that is answerable to those countries’ financial needs.

The president advised that world countries engage in cooperation and interaction on the basis of justice and honesty in order to be able to successfully confront the present and future challenges that face the international community.

He said such common endeavor required attention towards the role and stance of the United Nations, as the symbol of multilateralism, and attachment of respect to the goals and principles of the world body’s charter.

“Let us create a just and prosperous future for our children.”

Joint efforts aimed at realization of such a future have to be based on reinforcement of an international system of multilateralism that enables tackling such challenges as war, discrimination, poverty, and hunger at their roots, Pezeshkian added.

The Islamic Republic has included its standpoints in this regard in the Pact of the Future that was concluded among world leaders at the UN summit on Monday with the aim of adapting international cooperation to the current and future realities, he stated.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Pezeshkian enumerated the practical priorities of his administration.

The priorities, he said, featured attention towards such issues as healthcare, education, welfare, creating equal opportunities, proper income distribution, reducing poverty and discrimination, and further empowerment of women and youths among other things.

Pezeshkian has travelled to New York on a three-day trip to address the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.

Zarif says Trump’s withdrawal from Iran nuclear deal was ‘miscalculation’

Javad Zarif

Discussing various regional and international issues in an interview with NBC News on Monday, Zarif said the US has only itself to blame for the failure of the nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), that was signed in 2015 between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, plus Germany to resolve a decade-long dispute.

The former foreign minister also reiterated Iran’s official stance that it reserves the right to retaliate against Israel’s assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the political chief of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, on July 31 in Tehran.

As for Iran’s procrastination, he explained that Iran was asked by the international community to exercise restraint so it would not dent ceasefire efforts on Gaza, but deplored the Israeli regime and its supporters as the truce has not been established yet.

Zarif, who is accompanying Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian on his trip to New York to attend the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, said Iran is ready to cooperate with other countries to stop Israel’s year-long military campaign in Gaza.

“We want to move in a more peaceful, more stable world for our citizens and for the citizens of the world. We don’t seek war, but we will defend ourselves,” the Iranian vice president said.

Fire in industrial town in central Iran contained, 22 injured

Iran Firefighters

Raza Khani said rescue and emergency teams were deployed from Tehran and Semnan provinces to tackle the incident that left 22 people were injured.

Two of the wounded had severe burns and were transferred to a hospital in the capital Tehran.

The situation in the Fajr industrial town on Monday was exacerbated after the fire spread to the fuel storage and triggered multiple explosions.

An investigation has been launched to find out the cause of the incident.

Ukraine president says next few months will be ‘decisive’

Russia Ukraine War

Speaking at the American Academy of Achievement award ceremony in Washington D.C., Zelensky urged Ukraine’s allies to act faster and “define what the outcome [of the war] will be”.

“We don’t have much time,” he said, adding: “The next few months will be decisive. Ahead of us in this war — Russia’s war against Ukraine, and all of you because this is Russia’s war against freedom itself — we are short of time to define what the outcome will be.

“And we must define it. Not Russia, not their bloody allies. We need to be faster. We need not to lose the next few months in war, so that we don’t lose the next decades.”

Zelensky’s remarks came as he began his trip to the U.S. where he will present his “victory plan” to President Joe Biden, as well as to presidential candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris and members of Congress.

He will also attend the U.N. General Assembly in New York and meet other world leaders.

Zelensky will present his “victory plan” as Ukraine holds territories in Russia’s Kursk Oblast, though Moscow keeps on pushing on multiple fronts in the country’s east.

Ukraine announced it is open to suggestions from Washington to strengthen the plan. U.S. officials said they had been acquainted with elements of Zelensky’s strategy and voiced belief “that (it) can work.”

Zelensky said the plan was designed to end the war with the backing of international partners without relying on Russia’s cooperation. However, he did not specify how it would achieve this.

“This must be our shared achievement — victory for freedom, with no compromises at freedom’s expense,” the president added.

At the American Academy of Achievement award ceremony, Zelensky received the Golden Plate Award in recognition of contributions to human development.

Iran president expresses deep concern over Israel’s war-mongering in region

Pezeshkian Guterres

Pezeshkian emphasized that Tehran showed restraint following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. He noted that despite this restraint, the Zionists have now invaded Lebanon, following the onslaught of Palestinians in Gaza.

“On my first day as President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Zionist regime assassinated Martyr Haniyeh, who was a formal guest of Iran. We exercised restraint to avoid further escalation. Now, the Zionists have attacked Lebanon following the mass killings of over 41,000 Palestinians in Gaza.”

President Pezeshkian also expressed gratitude to the UN chief for his condolences over the recent deadly blast at the Tabas mine in northeastern Iran.

He attributed the tragic incident to the unfair sanctions imposed on the Islamic Republic, which have prevented the import of essential safety equipment.

The Iranian president reiterated that the Islamic Republic seeks peace and lasting security in the region with the cooperation of its neighbors. He reaffirmed that Tehran is not pursuing nuclear weapons, emphasizing that Iran has not initiated any war or conflict in the region for the past 200 years.

In response, Guterres stated that ending the Israeli war in Gaza is a top priority for the UN, adding that “we must not allow Lebanon to become another Gaza.”

The UN chief also highlighted that the October 7 attack by Palestinians on Israel is in no way proportionate to the unprecedented mass killings and destruction carried out by Israel in Palestine.

Guterres further called for an end to the Israeli regime’s settlement construction in the occupied West Bank.
