Stage and screen heavyweight calls on Iranians to back nuclear deal

Ezatollah-Entezami-1

Ezatollah Entezami, a veteran actor, has asked the Iranian people to support the nuclear deal the country has inked with P5+1, and said the Vienna deal showed to the whole world that Iranians favor peace over war.

Iran newspaper on September 20 published an opinion piece by the renowned actor on the Iran nuclear accord and the necessity of public support for the deal. The following is the translation of the piece in its entirety:

I am Ezatollah Entezami who is widely known as “Mr. Actor” [Entezami has been named the greatest actor in the history of Iranian cinema] thanks to your [the Iranian people’s] favor. I have always been known for being a peace-seeking individual, one who does not condone violence and conflict, one who hates political disputes and calls for differences to be patched up peacefully.

Now that our country, Iran, has successfully and proudly taken care of one of its most daunting challenges after years of ups and downs and has managed to clinch a deal with world powers following two years of marathon talks and lift the ominous cloud of war and embrace serenity, for my part, I – as a zealous Iranian – lend support to this big national achievement and call on all pundits to support the Iran nuclear deal.

There is no need to remind you that we have gone through stressful years, those nightmarish years when we were under constant threats and sanctions on multiple fronts. Economic sanctions were the most dangerous sanctions. These sanctions created a highly critical situation in our country. Our national currency [lost its value and] hit the bottom of the barrel, the country was pushed to the brink of bankruptcy and an 80m-strong nation was plunged into a period fraught with painful and agonizing moments.

It is anybody’s guess what the future would have had in store for this nation, in the absence of this deal [the Iran nuclear deal]. We, the Iranian nation, which has gone through excruciating pains, should not forget those hard years.

Over the years when resolutions were issued against Iran at the UN Security Council one after another, some in the country would mock such resolutions. Their mocking put the country on the verge of war.

What saved the country and pulled it back from the brink of war was the public vote in the 2013 elections. People gave the elected president a mandate to save the country from the crisis.

Building on people’s vote [for the president], the man the president appointed foreign minister entered the [nuclear] talks with a stronger bargaining power and came out with his head held up high. These talks proved to the entire world that the Iranian nation is seeking peace, not war. This is a nation which wants to be present in negotiating rooms for peace, not on battlefields. This is a nation that wants to enjoy security and avoid tensions.

This is the real face of Iran, a face on which wisdom and rationality are more noticeable than anger. The Iranian people are after tranquility. They want calm so that they can think of better days to come. [They are seeking] a promising future for all generations. Like fellow Iranians, I think and care about the future of Iran, a [better] Iran for all Iranians, both for my contemporaries and those who will be born here in the future. [We think of] an Iran in which we can get the better of all problems and think – unconcernedly – about the establishment of full democracy. I take a bow to the Iranian people.

Iran Naval Force

The Iranian naval forces rescued a hijacked Singaporean ship named ‘Ocean Flourite’ in the Persian Gulf waters and arrested 7 pirates.

“The hijacked ship, Ocean Flourite, was seized as it was sailing from the port of Faw in Iraq to Kuwait. Seven of the hijackers have been sent to prison,” prosecutor of the southern Iranian city of Mahshahr Alireza Aghajari said Sunday.

He said the Singapore-owned ship was rented by Iraq and the vessel crew who had all been thrown into water by the pirates were rescued by Kuwait’s coast guard, adding that the ship was rescued by the Iranian naval forces in Khor Mousa region in the Persian Gulf.

Aghajari said that the ship remained undamaged and has been delivered to Iraqi officials.

IAEA not to disclose confidential information: Amano

Amano-1

Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano said Sunday that the agency is committed to not disclosing any confidential information.

“The agency respects confidential issues, because it deems it serious,” Amano said at a session of parliament’s JCPOA Review Committee in Iran.

“To protect confidential information, we have a regime, which we consider serious and will adhere to,” Amano said in his meeting with Iranian lawmakers.

The UN nuclear chief further referred to Tehran’s voluntary implementation of the Additional Protocol, and assured the country that the IAEA will address the issue without any discrimination or exception.

“We adhere to the statute of the Safeguards Agreement, and are personally committed to cooperation with Iran in a bid to build international trust on (Iran’s) nuclear program,” he added.

JCPOA proved Iran nuclear program is peaceful: Rouhani

Rouhani-cbs

President Rouhani has said the recent nuclear agreement between Tehran and P5+1 has proved wrong the accusations that Iran’s nuclear work does not seek peaceful purposes.

“We wanted this incorrect accusation that Iran is after nuclear weapons corrected and resolved. The goal of Iran is peaceful activity,” Rouhani told American television network CBS in an interview aired on Sunday.

Rouhani said the groundbreaking agreement was “difficult” to reach, adding that it was the “right path” chosen by all sides taking part in Iran’s nuclear negotiations.

It was “a very difficult agreement to reach, with lots of ups and downs … But it’s the right path we have chosen. I am happy that we have taken extremely important steps on this issue and are in the process of taking the final steps,” he added.

The president said that the agreement recognizes Tehran’s right to further develop its nuclear program for peaceful purposes although it puts “limitations” on the country’s nuclear work.

“In an agreement, neither achieves the maximum. Both sides must always concede a little bit from the maximum to get an agreement,” he said.

Rouhani also expressed hope that the Iranian parliament and the Supreme National Security Council would ratify the agreement.

“The majority of our people, in opinion polls, have a positive view of the agreement … Institutions like parliament and the Supreme National Security Council, are usually not far removed from public opinion and move in that direction,” he said.

The president said the conclusion of the nuclear talks can pave the way for “decreasing” the disagreement between Tehran and Washington, but added that the two countries’ enmity “will not go away soon.”

“The enmity that existed between the United States and Iran over the decades, the distance, the disagreements, the lack of trust, will not go away soon,” he said, adding, “What’s important is which direction we are heading. … Are we heading toward amplifying the enmity or decreasing this enmity? I believe we have taken the first steps toward decreasing this enmity.”

President Rouhani calls for IAEA’s impartial approach to JCPOA

Rouhani-Amano

President Rouhani called on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to evenhandedly monitor the implementation of a nuclear agreement recently reached between Tehran and six world powers.

At a meeting with IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano in Tehran Sunday, Rouhani described the duties of the UN nuclear watchdog as “significant and complicated” in technical, legal and political arenas.

“We would like (to see that) the world’s public opinion trusts the IAEA, because confidence in the important institution will give calm to the world’s people,” he said.

Rouhani further recalled Iran’s undertakings under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and said that Iran voluntarily implements the Additional Protocol of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and in return expects the IAEA to fairly monitor the implementation of JCPOA.

Accompanied by a four-member delegation, including his deputies, Amano arrived in Tehran to attend a session of parliament’s JCPOA Review Committee and facilitate the process of implementing the Roadmap signed between Iran and the IAEA.

Larijani calls for collective efforts to settle regional crises

Larijani-Netherland

Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani called for collective efforts by all countries to help resolve the ongoing regional crises.

“International determination of all countries is required to address regional and world challenges and crises,” Larijani said Sunday in a meeting with Dutch Foreign Minister Bert Koenders in Tehran.

Larijani said that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always stressed the need for holding talks and political solutions to regional crises.

The top MP recalled Iran-Holland friendly relations and said, “The good history of cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Netherlands has paved the way for expansion of political, economic, cultural and parliamentary ties between the two countries.”

Larijani highlighted the importance of exchanging views and continued consultations between Iran and the European Union on different regional and international issues.

He stressed the importance of seizing the present opportunities to promote mutual cooperation between the two countries in the fields of energy, renewable energies and water resources.

The Dutch foreign minister, for his part, pointed to 400 years of relations between the Netherlands and Iran, and said that the nuclear agreement between Tehran and P5+1 has opened new horizons for the two sides in political, economic and cultural areas.

IAEA chief Yukiya Amano visits Parchin military site

Amano

Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano has visited Parchin military site as a formality arranged during his brief stay in Tehran.

The spokesman of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) said that Amano paid a visit to the military site on Sunday.

“In this tour, Yukiya Amano visited some of the workshop locations at the compound that have been the subject of unfounded allegations, especially the process of the repair and reconstruction of the access road to the Mamlou Dam near Parchin, which has gone down in a landslide due to recent rainfall,” Behrouz Kamalvandi said.

Iran has repeatedly denied Western allegations about secret nuclear activity at the site.

In remarks marking a deviation from past claims in the US about Parchin, the US Department of State on August 27 acknowledged that the site is a “conventional” military facility.

“I think it’s important to remember that when you’re talking about a site like Parchin, you’re talking about a conventional military site, not a nuclear site,” US State Department Spokesman John Kirby said.

Kamalvandi added that, apart from meeting with President Rouhani, Amano has also met with his host, AEOI chief Ali Akbar Salehi. The UN nuclear chief traveled to Tehran at the head of a delegation on a one-day trip at the invitation of Salehi. Amano also met with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

The AEOI spokesman said Amano also participated in a session of parliament’s JCPOA Review Committee at the request of Iranian lawmakers.

Roadmap, JCPOA discussed

In a statement on Amano’s visit, the IAEA said the UN nuclear watchdog chief’s discussions with high-level Iranian officials focused on “continued implementation of the Road-map to resolve all past and present outstanding issues.”

“As part of the implementation of the Road-map, the Director General visited the site of Parchin, together with the Head of the Department of Safeguards, Tero Varjoranta,” the statement added.

In his meetings with high-level Iranian officials, Amano also discussed issues pertaining to the verification and monitoring of nuclear-related measures under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the statement read.

Israel bound to weaken; no military action needed: Expert

israeal

Having made a strategic miscalculation, the Zionists wrongly assume that they are locked in a showdown with a political current or an opposition party in the Palestinian territories.

In an opinion piece, Seyyed Yadollah Shirmardi has described the collapse of the Zionist regime of Israel as inevitable, predicting a “post-Israel challenge” for the West.

He has predicted that without resort to war or invasion, by 2030 people living in Gaza and the West Bank, including Muslims, Christians and Jews will have formed the state of Palestine in a democratic way in a land where there will be no trace of the Zionist regime of Israel.

What follows is the translation of part of the piece published by Tasnim News Agency on September 16:

The Supreme Leader’s comments that the Zionist regime of Israel won’t be around 25 years from now have raised the ire of senior Zionist officials and Israeli media.

The Leader openly said, “After the conclusion of nuclear talks between Iran and P5+1, the Zionists in the occupied territories have said that the talks have alleviated their concern about Iran for 25 years and that they will address the issue in 25 years. In response, I must say that first of all, you won’t last that long and hopefully, with God’s grace there will be no such thing as the Zionist regime in the region in 25 years. Secondly, the spirit of Islamic jihad in the meantime won’t let the Zionists feel comfortable for a moment. Nations have awakened and they know who their enemies are although governments and propaganda machines seek to misrepresent friends as foes; they should know that those efforts will lead nowhere.”

The judicious Leader has highlighted a concrete and inevitable fact that even Israeli allies have admitted to. A 2009 report by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has predicted that Israel will collapse in 20 years and afterwards the 1948 and 1967 refugees will return home.

Recalling the return of over 1.5 million Israelis to Russia and Europe, the study has warned the US about a danger and said that there are over 500,000 Israelis with American passports; more than 300,000 of them live in California alone.

In fact, today US intelligence agencies are preoccupied with the post-Israel era more than ever before, wondering what will become of millions of Israelis living in the occupied territories in case the false regime collapses.

In the aftermath of 9/11, the Americans assumed that through deployment of troops to Western Asia, they could throw a lifeline to this illegitimate regime. However, they were ignorant of the fact that the noose is around the neck of Israel and as it is pulled further up, it pushes the regime closer to suffocation.

The final war has its roots in a number of cultural, social and economic factors which have imploded the regime already.

Among other things, the reverse migration of the Zionists to their ancestral lands, growing insecurity in the occupied territories, mounting pressures [on Israel] generated by the armament of the West Bank and possession by Hamas of modern military equipment in Gaza, the political and military ascendance of the Lebanese Hezbollah to the north of Israel, corruption and unethical behavior of Zionist citizens, a decline in religious zeal of the third and fourth generation Zionists in the occupied territories in comparison with the previous generation, and the higher reproduction rate of Palestinians as opposed to the Zionists have weakened the regime which is already as wobbly as a spider’s web.

In 2030, there will be no need for military unity among Muslim countries to take on Israel and with God’s grace, the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank will settle the issue of Israel on their own once and for all and form a Palestinian state where Muslims, Christens and Jews share power in proportion to their population.

Having made a strategic miscalculation, the Zionists wrongly assume that they are locked in a showdown with a political current or an opposition party in Palestinian territories. However, the resistance forces of Lebanon and the Palestinian territories are more like a social movement which has developed across the world of Islam in recent years and come to fruition in Lebanon, the Palestinian territories, Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Bahrain. Throughout history, there has been no record of the annihilation of a social movement.

At the close of the piece, Shirmardi recalled the plots of the US and its allies to infiltrate the Islamic Republic of Iran’s pillars of power to chip away at the resolve of the Iranian nation to resist and said, “The US and its allies need to brace for the post-Israel era.”
