Zarif: People by their vote will insure success of diplomacy

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in an interview with Persian daily Iran has touched upon various topics. Commenting on the coming elections, Mr. Zarif while underlining the importance of massive participation of people in Parliamentary election said the country’s national sovereignty in international arena, depends on the number of the votes in the blot boxes.

The most important message sent by previous presidential election to the West and world powers was that sanctions can not separate the Iranian nation from the establishment and people by taking part in election and casting their votes will express their will  and views, said Mr. Zarif.

He went on saying that people’s vote in presidential election empowered us and now once again the vigilant presence of people will provide strong backing for diplomacy and massive turnout will boost our bargaining power.

He added that I should remind the fact that Iranian people do not need anybody from abroad to tell them to take part in the election because our people are very thoughtful, mature and vigilant and I have no doubt that they will take part in a glorious manner in Friday elections.

Mr. Zarif said such presence under the vey critical situation of the region is of great importance. The region is in great turmoil and Islamic Republic is the only country in this part of the world that with blessing of almighty God is enjoying tranquility and security and we should know that peace and security are not trivial achievements.

He said I am confident that people by their massive turnout in elections will provide the government of their country a chance to advance its foreign policy with dignity and firmly based of constructive interaction with outside world.

Syrian Government Agrees to ‘Cessation of Hostilities’

The Syrian government said it would work with Russia to define which groups and areas would be included in the cessation of hostilities plan which is due to take effect on Saturday.

Damuscus also warned that opposition groups cannot be allowed to use the ceasefire to strengthen their military positions and this would be regarded as a breach of the agreement.

Russia and America’s joint statement on a ceasefire on Monday would not have been issued unless the two countries had relatively clear indications that its terms would be accepted by the key plays including the Syrian government, the opposition forces sponsored by Saudi Arabia, and by Syrian Kurds, the Guardian reported.

The Syrian government stressed the importance of sealing the borders, halting foreign support to armed groups, and “preventing these organizations from strengthening their capabilities or changing their positions”, in order to avoid wrecking the agreement.

Assad believes Turkey has acted as a supply line for foreign militants supporting both the so-called moderate opposition and Daesh. Turkey has welcomed the ceasefire plan.

 

Iran, Azerbaijan Republic sign 11 MoUs

The two sides signed documents for cooperation in various sectors, including transportation, electricity swap, health and medical sciences, oil, gas, and petrochemical, as well as customs, social and women affairs in Tehran’s Saadabad Palace.

The documents were signed for bilateral coopertion on preventing consequences of emergency states and Tehran-Baku cooperation for customs affairs and livestock health.

President Aliyev of Azerbaijan arrived in Tehran earlier on Tuesday heading a high-ranking delegation. He is visiting Iran upon an invitation by President Rouhani.

The visiting Azeri president was officially welcomed by his Iranian counterpart at the Cultural and Historical Complex of Saadabad in north of Tehran.

Upon arrival at Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport, President Aliyev was warmly welcomed by Minister of Information and Communications Technology Mahmoud Vaezi.

Prior to his visit to Iran, President Aliyev said on Monday that his visit to Iran aims at bolstering relations between the two neighboring states.

He expressed hope that the visit would help broaden affinities between the two nations more than ever.

Italy to Build Three Solar Plants in Iran

Officials with Italy’s Finergy Company in a recent trip to Tehran held a meeting with Iranian authorities in the Ministry of Energy and the Renewable Energy Organization of Iran.

During the meeting, the Italian side expressed its readiness to invest in Iran’s renewable energies sector.

It was agreed in the negotiations that Finergy fund and construct three solar power plants with a total capacity of 10 MW in the Iranian cities of Kerman, Yazd, and Shiraz.

More negotiations are underway on Iran’s use of Finergy’s experiences in the fields of biomass and plasma technology.

Back in December 2015, Germany signed an initial agreement with Iran to invest in the construction of four solar power plants in the southeastern province of Kerman.

According to the initial agreement, a solar power plant will be set up in Kerman Province’s city of Mahan, two others in Rayen and another power plant in Yazdanabad District in Zarand County.

An Iranian deputy energy minister said at the time that a host of foreign firms have shown enthusiasm for investment in Iran’s electricity and water industries, noting that regular meetings are underway to single out the best from among them.

Iran has formulated plans to diversify electricity generation from the plants that use renewable energy sources, such as wind or solar power.

The country’s electricity industry ranks 14th in the world and first in the Middle East in terms of electricity generation by having an installed power generation capacity of 67,806 MW.

Solar photovoltaic generation, known as PV, contributes 96 to 98 percent less greenhouse gases than electricity generated from 100 percent coal, according to the Energy Research Center of the Netherlands.

 

Religious Minorities Will Vote in Elections as Seriously as Other Citizens

Daryavoush Azizian, a priest from the Eastern Assyrian Church, commented on the lives of followers of minority religions in West Azerbaijan Province. He said that they are mostly Assyrians and Armenians, and what they have in common is that they are both Christians. He added that Assyrians are an ancient people who had lived in Iran in the pre-Christian era, later converting to the religion.

Speaking about the elections, he said that voting is a highly prized individual right, and everybody should be grateful to have such a privilege.

Paylagh Sahak, the head of the Armenian Church in West Azarbaijan, said, “We have been living in this country since ancient times, and have stood alongside our fellow countrymen at all critical junctures in history, such as the revolution, the war and during the sanctions. The upcoming elections are another critical moment, and we will be present and active in this area as well.” He added that Armenians will participate strongly in the elections, and will show our national strength to the world.

Bet Kelya, an Assyrian citizen from the northwestern city of Urmia, said that the elections are a prominent symbol of democracy, which indicate that Iran follows democratic principles and determines its own future by holding elections in line with the global community.

He added that the participation of all religious and ethnic groups and minorities in the elections is a sign of national unity and friendship.

Putin Says Syria Ceasefire Deal a ‘Real Chance’ to End Bloodshed

“I’m convinced that the joint actions agreed with the American side are able to radically transform the crisis situation in Syria,” Putin said in a special address broadcast on television and posted on the Kremlin’s website.

Putin’s comments came after the United States and Russia announced plans for a cessation of hostilities in Syria, excluding Daesh (ISIL) and Al-Nusra Front militants, that would take effect starting on Saturday.

In his statement, Putin said that he had just discussed the plan with US President Barack Obama by telephone. He said that Russia had initiated the phone call, “but both sides, undoubtedly, have an interest in it”.

Putin added that Moscow would do “whatever is necessary” to ensure that Damascus respects the ceasefire agreement. He added: “We are counting on the United States to do the same with its allies and the groups that it supports,”

Putin said the United States and Russia were “ready to put in place an effective control mechanism” to ensure respect of the ceasefire, adding that a “direct line of communication will be created as well as, if necessary, a working group to exchange information”.

“Finally a real chance to bring an end to the years of bloodshed and violence is emerging,” Putin said.

The Russian president said the ceasefire agreement had come out of “intense work by teams of Russian and American experts”, made easier by the “positive experience” of a US-Russian deal on the dismantling of Syria’s chemical weapons arsenal, signed in September 2013.

“All fighting groups should confirm to us, or to the United States, their commitment to this truce,” Putin said of the deal signed between Moscow and Washington on Monday, Fracne 24 reported.

“The Russian and American militaries, together, will define the territories on which these groups are operating. There will be no military operations against them.”

But “with regard to the Al-Nusra Front, Daesh (ISIL) and other terrorist groups recognized as such by the UN, a ceasefire is totally excluded. The strikes against them will continue,” he added.

Russia and the United States said in a joint statement that the partial truce would come into force at midnight Damascus time (GMT-2) on Friday.

Syria’s main opposition group said it accepted the ceasefire deal if humanitarian “conditions” were met. The Riyadh-based High Negotiations Committee said in a statement that it “agreed to respond positively to international efforts to reach a truce deal”.

 

Iran to hold specialized food exhibition in Russia

Mohammad Hossein Azizi, Chairman of the board of directors for Food Industries Association of Iran, announced on Tuesday that a specialized exhibition of high-quality foodstuffs will be held in Moscow sometime in late April or early March, saying “renowned Iranian food producers will participate in the event and provide more opportunities for Iranian products to find their place in the Russian market.”

“Our team is currently investigating the Russian market and introducing it to our food industry producers. After consulting with Russian market participants and businessmen, we will create a complete bank of information on the Russian market and make it available to Iranian food producers wishing to attend the exhibition,” he explained.

Azizi also mentioned that a comprehensive book on Iran’s food industry will be widely distributed among Russian businessmen at the exhibition so that any potential cooperation between Iran and Russia in the field of food industry would be with prominent food producers of Iran.

Iran is also planning to hold the 23rd International Food, Beverage & Packaging Technology and Food Ingredients Trade Fair on 30 May–02 June 2016. A number of countries including Austria, Poland, Taiwan, Belarus, South Korea, the Netherlands, Switzerland, China, Germany, Italy, France, India and Turkey will have their own pavilions in the event.

Iranians Not to Allow US, Britain to Decide for Them: Judiciary Chief

Addressing a gathering of Iranian veterans and clerics in the northern province of Mazandaran on Monday night, Ayatollah Amoli Larijani cautioned about recent attempts made by the US and Britain to influence the outcome of the upcoming elections in Iran and said unfortunately, the enemies of the Islamic Establishment have always tried to harm the Islamic Revolution over the past 37 years since its victory in February 1979.

However, he added, “Our people are vigilant, alive and wise and are able to recognize foreigners’ attempts to skew (the polls).”

The judiciary chief further said that the Iranian people will never allow the US and Britain to decide for them in the elections.

The people will deal a strong blow to the enemies with their high turnout, Amoli Larijani went on to say.

In relevant remarks on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossein Jabari Ansari reiterated that the country is independent and does not need any advice from foreign parties on the upcoming parliamentary and Assembly of Experts elections.

British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) recently encouraged Iranian people not to vote for certain Iranian candidates in the Assembly of Experts elections, which will be held on February 26.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran’s position (on BBC’s move) is a clear one; an important achievement of Iran’s Islamic Revolution is independence and freedom, and the vigilant nation of Iran does not need the advice of any foreign player,” Jaberi Ansari said in his weekly press conference.

“We are sure that, in the upcoming elections, the Iranian nation will prepare the grounds for the expansion of Islamic Republic’s power at the international and regional level through their massive participation and vigilant and conscious choice,” he asserted.
