6-Year-Old Boy Becomes CEO of Persepolis Football Club

Something interesting happened at today’s Persepolis training session. A young boy suffering from haemophilia had always dreamt of becoming the Persepolis boss, so a group of documentary-makers from IRIB Channel 5 made his dream come true.

In co-ordination with the club’s leaders, this young child started his new job at Persepolis headquarters, sitting behind the CEO’s desk.

He also paid a visit to the team’s training ground. As a VIP, of course, during his visit he was accompanied by two bodyguards.

The young Persepolis CEO played football with Sosha Makani, Reza Nourmohammadi and Mohsen Bengar for a while, and chatted with other Persepolis players.

He even took – and scored – a penalty with Sosha Makani in goal. Sosha Makani gave him his gloves and the two took a photo together.

 

 

He met Branko Ivanković, the team’s manager, and discussed his ideas with him. He told the young CEO that he hopes that with the new executive leadership, Persepolis will win the championship this year, and qualify for the Asian Championship next year.

Mohsen Bengar also presented Abolfazl Khansari, the 6-year-old CEO of Persepolis, with a number 6 team shirt.

Persepolis is one of the highest supported teams in Iranian football. It is said in unofficial counts that the club has over 30 million fans.Persepolis Football Club, also spelled Perspolis, is a Persian Gulf Pro League professional football club based in Tehran, Iran. Persepolis F.C. was founded in 1963 and has been in the first division of Iranian football since 1968.

Rouhani officially welcomes Vietnamese counterpart in Tehran

During the ceremony on Monday, national anthems of the two countries were played and the two presidents reviewed the guard of honor.

Rouhani and Tan Sang are holding a bilateral meeting.

The Vietnamese president arrived in Tehran on Sunday for an official three-day visit at the invitation of his Iranian counterpart.

Heading a politico-economic delegation, Tan Sang is scheduled to discuss ways with Iranian officials to expand bilateral ties between Tehran and Hanoi particularly in the fields of economy, banking, and energy.

Vietnam and Iran established relations in 1973 and since then the two countries have increased political and economic cooperation through exchange of visits by senior officials from both sides.

Iran opened an embassy in Hanoi in 1991 and Vietnam opened its embassy in Tehran in 1997.

Trade transactions between Iran and Vietnam reached USD 300 million in 2013 from USD 80 million in 2010.

Iran Khodro sees imminent Mercedes deal

The two sides have already reached an agreement on production of commercial vehicles and passenger cars in Iran.

“The current letter of intent will get down to signing in the first half of the next (Iranian) year,” beginning on March 20, Iran Khodro Chief Executive Hashem Yekke-Zare said on Sunday.

Mercedes-Benz is a subsidiary of German-based Daimler which has announced a swift return to Iran where the race among carmakers for a share of the country’s huge market is getting intense.

In January, the German carmaker said it had signed letters of intent with local partners Iran Khodro Diesel and Mammut Group to arrange a “comprehensive re-entry” into the country.

The areas of cooperation include a joint venture for local production of Mercedes-Benz trucks and powertrain components plus the establishment of a sales company for Mercedes-Benz trucks and components, it said then.

Daimler also plans to return as a shareholder in the former engine joint venture Iranian Diesel Engine Manufacturing Co. (IDEM), based in Tabriz.

Leading carmakers are seeing a pent-up demand for cars in Iran, a country of more than 80 million people, which is emerging from years of sanctions.

Yekke-Zare said Iran Khodro was waiting for talks between another Iranian carmaker, Pars Khodro, and Renault to conclude in order to begin its own negotiations with the French company.

Iran Khodro is also willing to cooperate with Japan’s Suzuki for production of Swift, Ciaz and Vitara cars, he added.

Furthermore, the Iranian company is in “serious” talks with an Italian company which he didn’t name, Yekke-Zare said.

“If everything goes according to plan, we will get to the signing stage very soon and the deal will be at a level above the cooperation agreement with Peugeot.”

The French carmaker said in January it had signed a binding contract worth 400 million euros with Iran Khodro to produce a range of cars in the country.

PSA Peugeot Citroën will begin by producing 200,000 cars a year in a 50:50 joint venture, producing the Peugeot 208, 2008, and 301 models, its Chief Executive Carlos Tavares said then.

The commander also questioned claims of “Iranian adventurism” in the region, stressing Iran’s measures are aimed at defending the dignity of all Muslims.
Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies accuse Iran of meddling in crises gripping Syria and Yemen, in both of which the monarchy itself has been directly engaged.
“Is it an adventurous move for the Islamic Republic to defend Muslims’ properties and lives… (and) to stop the destruction of Muslims’ mosques?” he said
The commander noted that the reason for such claims is that the Islamic Republic plays a central role in the Muslim world.
Although the Muslim country is under the “dominance” of the Saudi royal family, and the people play “no role” in its governance, Iran has never gotten engaged in any form of “adventurism” against Saudi Arabia, Soleimani said.
“It has always been the Saudis who have been adventurous towards Islam,” he said, referring to Riyadh’s killing of thousands of Muslim men and women in Yemen and crackdown on its own people.
Saudi Arabia has relentlessly been attacking Yemen since March last year while it has been implicated in providing support for Daesh along with its allies, including Qatar and Turkey.
On the other hand, the kingdom has been part of a US–led coalition which launches air raids in Iraq and Syria allegedly to target the Takfiris.

Iran condemns terrorist attack in Ankara

Referring to the sad incident on Sunday, he condoled the Turkish government and people on the fatal terrorist attack and voiced sympathy with the families of victims.

He said the unbroken chain of terrorist operations in various parts of the world and the region gives momentum to need for an orchestrated and unified move to confront terrorism and extremism which pose common threats to the international community.

Casualties in the strong explosion in Ankara’s busy Kizilay Square on Sunday increased to 34 as about 125 people are reportedly injured.

Health Minister Mehmet Muazenoglu said that 19 wounded people are in critical condition.

The blast occurred beside a bus at 18:45 local time close to a crowded terminal for city commuters located in the government buildings in the neighborhood.

No group has claimed responsibility for the car bomb explosion.

Iran, New Zealand FMs urge enhanced economic relations

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who had arrived in New Zealand a day earlier on the fifth leg of his Asia-Pacific tour, held a meeting with his New Zealand counterpart Murray McCully in Wellington.

Zarif said Tehran is ready to take major steps to expand ties with Wellington in all fields, while McCully, for his part, said Iran plays a leading role in finding ways to settle regional issues.

In another meeting with Iranian nationals residing in New Zealand on Sunday, Zarif called on the nationals to make use of opportunities created after the removal of sanctions against the country.

Zarif said it was actually the Iranian people who made the sanctions fail, adding, “Resistance and wisdom of the [Iranian] nation proved that no Iranian individual should be threatened.”

On February 19, New Zealand lifted its sanctions against Iran following the implementation of Tehran’s nuclear agreement with world powers, dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

On January 16, Iran and the P5+1 group of countries — the United States, France, Britain, Russia and China plus Germany — started to implement the JCPOA which was reached between the two sides on July 14, 2015, following two and a half years of intensive talks.

After the JCPOA went into effect, all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran by the European Union, the Security Council and the US were lifted. Iran, in return, has put some limitations on its nuclear activities.

Zarif arrived in New Zealand after he wrapped up his official two-day trip to Thailand, where he participated in the 14th Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Ministerial Meeting.

He also met with senior Thai officials, including Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai.

The Iranian minister started his six-nation tour on March 6 and paid visits to Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei and Thailand. At the end of his trip to New Zealand, he is scheduled to visit Australia on the last leg of his tour.

Iran to Use Everything for Defense, Except WMDs: Commander

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency on Sunday, Commander of Army Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan underscored that the country’s Armed Forces will take advantage of every “defensive capacity” in the world to boost their power.

The commander, however, noted that Iran will never resort to stuff that have been defined as red lines by Commander-in-Chief (Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei).

“The chemical, nuclear and biological weapons are things that we will not employ even if we possess them,” he explained.

The senior commander also unveiled plans for war games to be staged by the ground, naval and air forces in future, larger than the previous drills.

His comments came after a recent missile exercise by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) provoked hue and cry in the West.

The IRGC Aerospace Division test-fired a number of advance, ballistic missiles with pin-point accuracy in the drill.

IRGC Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari had already described the message of the missile drill as security for Iran and the neighboring countries.

 

Saudis Victimizing Lebanon to Cover Up Mistakes: Iranian Diplomat

“Saudi Arabia is still looking for a victim rather than trying to make up for its mistakes in Syria, and is now seeking to punish Lebanon,” Iranian Foreign Ministry’s Director General for International and Political Affairs Hamid Baeedinejad wrote in a message shared on his Instagram page.

After booting Syria out of the Arab League, Saudis wrongly believed that the ground was prepared for the Damascus government’s downfall, but after its failure to topple the Syrian government, Riyadh has now decided to mobilize the Arab states against another Arab nation, namely Lebanon, he added.

“Saudi Arabia, which feels rancor towards Lebanon’s Hezbollah because of the movement’s support for the Syrian government, has now pressurized the other members of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council… to force the Lebanese government to drive Hezbollah out of Lebanon’s political arena,” Baeedinejad deplored.

What happened in the most recent meeting of the Arab League was Arabs crossing swords with the other Arabs and the anti-Israeli axis of resistance, and the Zionists smiling calmly, he stated.

The remarks came after the Arab League foreign ministers on Friday declared Hezbollah a “terrorist organization” for the second time since January, with the abstention of Lebanon and Iraq, and a reservation by Algeria.

Last week, the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) had also declared Hezbollah, which has been fighting terrorist groups in Syria and the Israeli occupation, a terrorist group.

 

Iran to protect all Muslim holy shrines: Rouhani

“The issue is not whether they are based in Iraq, Syria or other countries. We will not tolerate attempts by terrorists to assault the holy shrines of the Household [of Prophet Muhammad] and will stand against them,” Rouhani said.

“I have repeatedly said that the shrines constitute a red line for us,” said the president during a speech on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day in Tehran on Saturday.

Rouhani said, “Martyrs have taught us to protect neighboring Muslims and holy shrines whenever they are in danger.”

Addressing the families of the Iranian martyrs, the president said, “Your children showed that they would defend Iran, the Muslim land, and the Household’s shrines no matter where they were.”

Iran has sent military advisers to Syria and Iraq to help the two countries repel attacks on holy shrines. Some of the advisers have lost their lives in terrorist attacks or clashes with Takfiri militants.

Iran also honors those killed during the Iraqi war under former dictator Saddam Hussein between 1980 and 1988, with President Rouhani saying Saturday “martyrs showed us the path of religion, self-abnegation and sacrifice.”

“They taught us to defend our country, morals, and religion, to stand by the side of our Leader and authorities, observe unity and integrity so our country stands glorious in the region and the world. This is the martyrs’ message and will.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, Rouhani praised the Iranian nation for standing by the government, saying the administration owes its achievements to this support.
