Golden Train of European Tourists Due in Iran Tuesday

Isfahan-Sio Se Pol

The Directorate said the Golden Train will enter Iran from the northwestern Razi border point in Tabriz, the provincial capital of East Azerbaijan.

Its European passengers will first arrive on a plane in Tabriz and will then use the train to continue their journey into the Iranian cities and towns.

They are scheduled to visit Zanjan, Kashan, Isfahan, Sadat Shahr, Shiraz, Yazd, and Mashhad.

Due to security conditions in Turkey, the train will arrive in Iran without any passengers first

The first and the second Golden Trains brought European tourists to Iran last year.

This comes as Iran plans to launch the electronic visa (e-visa) program to further boost tourist arrivals.

Head of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization Masoud Soltanifar said electronic visa for tourists will be issued officially by the end of 2016.

“Iran issues 30-day visa for tourists from 190 countries upon arrival at its airports. However, that could be extended to another 15 days,” he said last week.

“We seek visa waiver programs with a number of countries to boost tourism,” he said, adding that tourists will soon be able to enter Iran without hassle as they can apply for visa online and print the e-visa on their own.

According to the official, the e-visa program is the key initiative to help accomplish the government’s goal of further expanding and developing the tourism industry, as well as strengthening diplomatic relations with other nations.

Iran, Turkey to trade with national currencies

Meeting with Turkey’s ambassador to Tehran, Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Valiollah Afkhami Rad said Iran and Turkey can conduct bilateral trade using their national currencies although removing financial and banking barriers remains as the first step in the development trade ties.

“The two countries have always held friendly relations maintaining trade and economic ties in various periods,” highlighted Afkhami Rad expressing hope that more Turkish investors will take part in Iran in view of the gradual removal of international sanctions.

The official deemed safe cards intended for glass and petrochemicals imports as another obstacle to trade between Iran and Turkey urging the neighboring country to make revisions in this regard.

Iran’s deputy industry minister voiced hope that the upcoming Iran-Turkey Joint Commission in mid-April on preferential trade between the two sides will raise the requests of both sides reaching a final decision.

Afkhami Rad went on to note “launching direct air lines between Iranian and Turkish cities like Van, Izmir and Ankara marks another step towards facilitating the trade between the two countries.

Turkish Ambassador to Tehran Reza Hakan Tekin, for his part, pointed out that two high-ranking Turkish delegations will travel to Tehran in the next year expressing hope that the decisions to be made in the upcoming joint meeting escalate trade ties between Tehran and Ankara.

“Turkey pursues further cooperation with Iran and calls in the addition of some goods in preferential trade list between the two sides,” stressed Hakan Tekin saying “we seek to take giant steps in order to reach operational and tangible outcomes in the ties between Iran and Turkey.”

Iran has established relations with new European banks

Hossein Yaqoubi, international affairs’ director at Central Bank of Iran (CBI), told reporters that the Iranian banks are not allowed according to the directions to establish ties with small foreign banks.

Relations with big foreign banks are on the agenda, he added.

Iran and the six world powers reached a landmark nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), on July 14, 2015.

As anti-Iran sanctions were lifted on January 16, ‘Implementation Day’ of the JCPOA was announced on that day.

Rouhani: Iran’s trade surplus positive for first time in 37 years

President Rouhani made the remarks in a meeting attended by minister and several senior officials of Communications and Information Technology Ministry in Tehran.

He said the non-oil exports surpassed the oil exports during the last Iranian calendar year ending on March 20, 2016.

President Rouhani also put the amount of non-oil and oil exports last year at $42 billion and $41 billion respectively.

Iranian Army Commandos in Syria on Advisory Mission

Lieutenant Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force for Coordination Brigadier General Ali Arasteh told Tasnim that advisers from the 65th Nohed Brigade are now stationed in Syria.

According to the commander, the Special Forces commandos are not the only advisers that the Army Ground Force has dispatched to Syria, and the other units have representatives in the advisory missions as well.

Iran, a close ally of Syria, has been supporting the legitimate Syrian government in the fight against terrorists.

Tehran has already made it clear that its assistance to Syria is confined to consultation and advisory help.

Syria has been mired in a civil war since 2011, with government forces fighting an assortment of militant groups, including the Daesh (ISIL) terrorists.

Elsewhere in his comments, Brigadier General Arasteh pointed to the most recent advances the Ground Force has made in developing new equipment.

According to the official, the whole combat units of the Ground Force have been furnished with hand-launched Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).

The Islamic Republic is now in possession of a broad range of UAVs which can be used for both civilian and military purposes.

IRGC to Mass Produce New High Speed Boat

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency on Sunday, IRGC Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi said the speed boats are going to be mass produced in the near future.

Back in May 2015, the commander said his forces were testing military speed boats with the breakneck velocity of 110 knots (203 km/h).

He had also pointed to the local experts’ ability to design and test military boats with speeds of up to 120 knots in a naval research laboratory with a test basin.

The speed boats are seen by many military experts as the IRGC’s trump card in case of any direct confrontation with the US warships.

The IRGC Navy says the security of the Persian Gulf will be ensured without the presence of foreign forces, particularly the Americans.

Iranian MPs Urge Legal Action against US Cyber Attackers

Parliament

In the letter, the parliamentarians have asked the Judiciary to begin legal proceedings against US hackers for acts of sabotage against Iran, Abouzar Nadimi told Tasnim.

The main point of the letter is to counter harmful actions by American hackers against Iran’s nuclear facilities and power plants, he added.

The MPs seem to have written the letter in reaction to a recent decision by the US Justice Department, which announced on March 24 that it has indicted seven hackers associated with the Iranian government.

It is the first time the US has charged state-sponsored individuals with hacking to disrupt the networks of key US industries. The charges include attacking US banks’ public websites from late 2011 through May 2013 and with breaking into a computer system at a small dam in Rye, NY, in an apparent attempt to disrupt its operation.

On the other hand, Iran has already suffered a cyber damage when the Stuxnet virus affected a number of its nuclear facilities.

On June 1, 2012, The New York Times revealed that Stuxnet was part of a wave of sophisticated digital attacks codenamed “Olympic Games,” which US President Barack Obama had ordered against the computer systems that run Iran’s main nuclear enrichment facilities.

The paper also confirmed that the Stuxnet virus was created with the help of a secret Israeli intelligence unit.

Iranian experts, however, detected and neutralized the malware in time, averting an extensive damage to the country’s industrial sites and facilities.

Iran oil exports surpasses 2 million bpd

“Iran’s exports of oil and gas condensate are now at more than 2 million barrels per day,” the minister told the Shana news agency in Tehran on Sunday.

Condensate is a light oil that is typically produced in association with natural gas.

Senior nuclear negotiator Abbas Araqchi earlier said Iran had raised its crude oil exports to 1.7 million barrels per day (bpd), but it faced challenges for returning to pre-sanctions levels when the country sold 2.5 million barrels.

“Our customers have gone and concluded deals with other countries. We have to find new clients and nobody can expect us to return to former export rates overnight,” he said.

Araqchi predicted Iran’s oil exports to hit 2.5 million bpd within a year.

The Islamic Republic exported about 1 million bpd of oil under sanctions. Since the lifting of those restrictions, the country has been ramping up production in a bid to regain its market share.

The oil market is saturated amid oversupply by major producers such as Saudi Arabia.

The kingdom is currently pushing for a production freeze provided that other oil producing nations stop their output at current rates.

On Friday, deputy crown prince Mohammed bin Salman said Saudi Arabia would only freeze its oil output if Iran and other major producers did so.

Zangeneh has said Iran would take part in discussions on a possible production freeze after its output reached 4 million barrels per day.

The minister had already dismissed the idea of a production freeze by Iran as “a joke.”

“We do not intend to sanction ourselves again after coming out of the sanctions,” Deputy Petroleum Minister Amir Hossein Zamani said in February.

With Iran under sanctions, Saudi Arabia raised its output to an all-time high of more than 10.5 million barrels a day as did other producers, leading to an oversupply which has caused prices to nosedive around 70% since mid-2014.

Bin Salman’s remarks on Friday left the outcome of a meeting between OPEC and other big oil producers in Doha this month in question and sent prices sharply down.

In London and New York, oil prices sank more than four percent after the comments. Brent crude fell as much as $1.78 to $38.55 a barrel and West Texas Intermediate dropped $1.62 to $36.72 a barrel.

Iran’s DM Urges Halt to Fighting between Armenia, Azerbaijan

According to the Defense Ministry, Brigadier General Dehqan called for an immediate end to the military confrontation between the two northern neighbors of Iran.

In the telephone conversations with Azerbaijan’s Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov and Armenia’s Seyran Ohanian, the Iranian general called upon the two countries to exercise restraint and settle the conflicts through dialogue.

At least 30 soldiers have been killed in fighting between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces along the frontlines of the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region. Each side blames the other for the fighting that began overnight.

Azerbaijan said on Saturday that Armenian forces killed 12 of its soldiers and shot down a helicopter.

Azeri troops, meanwhile, killed 18 ethnic-Armenian soldiers, Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian said.

Nagorno-Karabakh has been under the control of Armenian military and separatists since a war between Armenia and Azerbaijan ended in 1994. Years of negotiations have brought little progress in resolving the dispute.

Fighting on Saturday marked the worst clashes since 1994, said David Babayan, spokesman for the region’s separatist president.
