President Rouhani Moving on the Right Track: Larijani

larijani

Here’s IFP’s translation of excerpts from the interview, as reported by Fararu:

“I don’t see the possibility [of Rouhani’s failure in being re-elected in 2017 votes] to be that much strong. Mr. Rouhani is generally moving on the right track,” Larijani said.

However, he added, his administration should have an accelerated fight against economic downturn and increased efforts to flourish the country’s production.

“This is the weak point of the incumbent administration,” Larijani said, adding that Rouhani’s cabinet should also have more insistence and efforts on the implementation of the nuclear deal [JCPOA] and act more courageously.

Other than these points, Rouhani’s administration has no problem, he noted.

“I don’t see it likely that Rouhani won’t serve his second term, but the conditions in future can be very decisive,” he went on to say.

He also noted that he has no plan to run for the presidential elections next year.

Similarities and Differences between Rouhani and Ahmadinejad

Larijani was the Parliament Speaker both under the administration of former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and President Rouhani. Asked about the commonalities between the two, Larijani could not remember any particular common points between the two.

“Maybe they share the goal of settling the country’s problems, but their methods are totally different. The former government was really confused in decision-making. I think they did not follow any particular approach, particularly in the field of economy. Ahmadinejad’s government repeatedly bypassed the law […] and we were faced with a strange phenomenon,” he noted.

“Another point was that the former government provoked political chaos. If the head of a family is a provocateur himself, the family will be destroyed even if there are emotional bonds. There is no emotional bond in a ruling system; if the President works provocatively, the country will be divided into several groups and opinions, and political chaos will occur,” Larijani said about Ahmadinejad’s tenure.

“Under the incumbent administration [of Rouhani], such cases do not happen or at least there are very few of them. Mr. Rouhani is very committed to the law. […] The bills sent by the government to the Parliament are all compliant with the law. There might be very few cases, maybe 1 or 2 cases in a month, that are declared to be against the law, while in the previous government, we used to reject 16 to 17 cases. In terms of establishing peace and calm in the society, Mr. Rouhani and his administration have tried to do their best, and this helps the country focus on its main problems,” Larijani added.

“Therefore, I believe the two governments belong to two different categories, and are totally different from each other. I should think a lot to find a common point between the two!” he said.

Larijani: I Have No Problem with Rouhani

Larijani says he has a good relationship with President Rouhani and has no problem with him, compared with the conflicts he had with Ahmadinejad.

“We don’t have any problem; we raise [and resolve] the issues in a rational way. If we have any conflict of opinion anywhere, rational dialogue is the path we pursue,” he noted.

Shemshak Ski Resort in Spring

Shemshak-10

IFP: Shemshak is one of Iran’s premiere ski facilities in winter, hosting domestic snowsports enthusiasts as well as an increasing number of foreigners, only an hour away from Tehran in the Alborz Mountains.

However, its charms continue well past the snowy season, as these photos from Mehrshow. The area is rich in terms of hiking trails, wildlife and plants, and its springtime greenery means that May and June are some of the best times to visit.

FM Spokesman: US Report on Iran ‘Politicized’ and ‘Invalid’

Speaking to reporters at his weekly press briefing, Jaberi Ansari made the remarks in a response to US claims branding Iran as a sponsor of terrorism.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is a victim of terrorism,” he said, adding that the world recognizes Iran as a forerunner in the fight against terrorism.

In its annual report published recently, the US State Department accused Iran of being a state sponsor of terrorism.

Police Seize over Two Tons of Opium in Southeast Iran

drugs

Brigadier General Hossein Rahimi said that, following round-the-clock efforts made by the anti-narcotics forces in the city of Saravan, they identified a major drug ring that intended to smuggle a huge cargo of illicit drugs.

In an overnight operation, the police forces managed to seize 1,647 kg of opium after chasing the smugglers’ vehicles and clashing with them.

In another operation in Mehrestan, he said, police seized 550 kg of opium in a vehicle.

In recent decades, Iran has been hit by drug trafficking, mainly because of its 936km shared border with Afghanistan, which produces more than 90% of the world’s opium.

According to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, the Islamic Republic is netting eight times more opium and three times more heroin than all other countries in the world combined.

The war on drug trade originating from Afghanistan has claimed the lives of nearly 3,700 Iranian police officers over the past 30 years.

President’s Aide Hails Election of Sunni MP to Parliament’s Governing Board

Ali Younesi

“This is a natural move, one which originates from the principles of Iran’s Constitution, and indicates that the Parliament is formed based on the will of the entire Iranian nation, including all ethnicities and religions,” Younesi told IRNA, as translated by IFP.

“Through this admirable move, Parliament has completed the government and the President’s plans to involve all ethnicities, religions, and religious minorities as much as possible,” he went on to say.

“It proved the necessity for solidarity and national unity in the country, and for respecting the rights of all Iranian nationals,” Younesi added, expressing his hope for the recurrence of such decisions in future.

“I don’t have any doubt that the results of such wise decisions and moves will lead to the enhancement of national solidarity and the creation of a sense of justice, equality, and the observance of civil rights among our brothers belonging to religious and ethnic minorities, including the Sunnis,” Younesi noted.

“The decision also demonstrated that the Parliament includes all political movements and factions,” he added.

However, he stressed, decisions like this are not being made enough at the national level yet.

“The moves initiated in the government to entrust responsibilities to this section of the society [minorities], including the recent appointment of a Sunni diplomat as Iran’s ambassador to another country, are just initial steps, and are definitely not enough,” he said.

Iran and Peugeot Launch New Talks

“No agreement has been reached with the Renault company for the production of cars,” stressed Iran’s Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Mohsen Salehinia, saying “However, Saipa Motor Corporation has conducted certain negotiations with the French company over launching a joint venture, for which a working group has been formed to supervise its implementation.”

Salehinia went on to highlight that “Certain anti-JCPOA issues in international arenas have exerted no effect on the joint cooperation between Iran and Peugeot, as the talks remain at an operational level.”

“The agreement was signed with the Peugeot Car Company after the removal of sanctions and the opening of a joint venture company is in final stages of registration,” underlined the official, adding that “Last week, a new meeting was held with Peugeot over subcontracts and issues related to manufacturing of automobile parts, exports and pricing.”

The Deputy Industry Minister concluded that the pricing of the new cars produced in collaboration with Peugeot will be carried out in line with international regulations.

Iran to Develop Integrated Cyber-Attack Warning System: Official

General Gholam Reza Jalali

Speaking on a TV talk show on Sunday June 5, General Jalali emphasized the necessity for a countrywide, integrated system capable of alerting organizations online in cases of possible cyber-attack. He expressed the hope that such a system would be developed in a short period of time.

His comment came after a spate of cyber-attacks against Iranian websites over the past two weeks.

In early June, a group of hackers, apparently employed by Saudi Arabia, hacked into a number of websites affiliated with Iran’s Foreign Ministry, publishing images of Saudi kings on the websites.

A background check revealed that the cyber intruders were not governmental elements, but had been seemingly paid for by the Riyadh regime to hack into the Iranian websites.

Earlier, there was a cyber-strike against the Statistics Centre of Iran on May 24. Iran’s Cyber Police said the attack had been traced back to IP addresses in three Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia.

It also announced that Tehran has submitted a report regarding the IPs and exact locations of the hackers to Saudi Arabia via the Interpol to take action and arrest the criminals.

Muslims Start Observing Fasting Month of Ramadan

Ramadan

The annual fasting month in the Islamic lunar calendar has begun in several countries, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen, where the crescent moon has been sighted.

The month will begin in other Muslim countries such as Iran on Tuesday, Press TVreports.

During Ramadan, Muslims fast as an effective way of practicing self-discipline. They are also expected to strengthen their character through self-restraint, charitable giving and introspection.

In Ramadan, Muslims try to spend more time praying, reciting the Quran, and doing other religious social activities, like helping the poor.

Muslims also attempt to keep away from sins and worldliness in the holy month, during which the entire Holy Quran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

At the end of the fasting day, Muslims break their day-long fast with an “iftar” meal. Muslim people mark the Eid al-Fitr festival at the end of the holy month.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, held his first meeting with the members of Iran’s new Parliament. During the session, which was widely covered by the Iranian press, the Leader urged the MPs to seriously pursue the improvement of the economy, and expressed embarrassment over the national unemployment rate.

A recent report by BBC about Imam Khomeini’s alleged links with the US and the reactions to the claims remain a top story in many Iranian newspapers.

Papers also covered President Hassan Rouhani’s communication of the “political crime” law, as well as the ongoing battles to retake the Iraqi city of Fallujah and the Syrian city of Raqqa.
