Israel behind Extinction of Caspian Sea Caviar

The Almas Caviar

An introduced or non-indigenous species, or simply an introduction, is a species living outside its native distributional range, which has arrived there by human activity, either deliberate or accidental. Non-native species can have various effects on the local ecosystem.

“Introduced species can disturb the ecosystem of an area,” Seyyed Jafar Mousavian, the Deputy Head of Intelligence and Operation Department at the Biological Headquarters of Civil Defence Organization, said in an interview with Mehr News Agency, as translated by IFP.

Some species can do more harm than good to an ecosystem, he noted.

He noted that Caspian seal, Kilka and Sevruga fish belong to the Caspian Sea; however, comb jellies are alien species that have come from the Atlantic Ocean.

beluga caviar“We firmly believe that the Zionist regime [Israel] is behind the conspiracy of nuisance species as they had sworn to do so,” Mousavi added.

Comb jellies are carnivorous creatures, hence a big threat for the food chain, growth, proliferation and natives species.

Planktons are the staple food of the Caspian Sea fish, he noted, adding that the amount of planktons of the largest enclosed inland body of water on Earth has dropped by alarming 75%, and therefore, we will face a crisis of food shortage for our native caviar fish.”

“Kilka is also a major food for sturgeons. The number of Kilkas caught in the Caspian Sea has decreased from 90,000 tons in 1979 to 20,000 tons in 2011. The huge decline in fishing shows that the number of Kilka fish is sharply decreasing.”

Almas CaviarMousavi went on to say that olive fruit fly is another type of unwelcomed species into the country that causes huge damages.

He described border controls by environmental organizations as a necessary preventive measure against migratory species and noted, “Civil Defence Organization plays an active, prominent role in protection from environment against nuisance species intruding from maritime, land and air borders.

He referred to biological agents as one of the root causes of environmental degradation.

Mousavi drew a link between civil defence and environmental protection, saying that, “Any environmental event that can inflict harm on human resources or vegetation, i.e. the degradation of environment, is described as a threat.”

He underlined that human, livestock, poultry, plants, food and pharmaceutical industry, environment and natural resources are the most vulnerable parts exposed to various threats.

Iranian Travel Agencies Banned from Sending Tourists to Turkey

Istanbul

According to a report by IRNA, as translated by IFP, Iran’s top tourism official Morteza Rahmani Movahhed announced on Wednesday, July 20, that Iranian travel agencies are not allowed to register or send tourists to Turkey following the recent developments and insecurity in Turkey.

“Any move against the order will be considered a violation, and the offending agencies will be prosecuted,” he went on to say.

“Since the conditions have yet to be normalized, the ban will be in place as long as the situation becomes normal,” he added.

Travels between Iran and Turkey were suspended on early Saturday, July 16, when a military coup launched by a faction in the Turkish armed forces created chaos in the country.

On Saturday morning, after a terrible night in Ankara and Istanbul, Iran’s Foreign Ministry called on nationals in Turkey, including residents or tourists, not to leave their places until further notice, avoid any gathering and heed warnings by the Turkish security officials.

In a separate statement on Sunday, Iran’s Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization announced that all border crossings with Turkey have been reopened and travels and transportation of vehicles have returned to normal.

For several hours overnight on Friday, violence shook Turkey’s two main cities, as the armed faction which tried to seize power blocked a bridge in Istanbul and strafed the headquarters of Turkish intelligence and parliament in Ankara.

At least 265 people were killed. An official said 161 of them were mostly civilians and police officers, while the remaining 104 were coup supporters.

According to a report by Al-Khaleej Online, as covered by Alef, investigations into the failed coup found that the pilot and a number of his colleagues have handed themselves into to the Democratic Union Party (PYD).

The PYD is affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which is considered a terrorist organisation by the United States and the European Union as well as the Turkish government.

The Parliament was targeted with seven F-16 rockets on Friday night during the failed coup attempt. Some of the strikes were carried out during a parliamentary meeting.

Kashmiris Flock to Hospitals to Donate Blood amid Violence and Curfews

The 32-year-old Mushtaq Ahmad joined Syed Mohsin, a lawyer who came from come from the volatile Qamarwari, and a group of 10 men from nearby Chattabal.

“I had come from Natipora dodging protests, angry cops and CRPF men to donate blood for my brothers. But they are not accepting now,” Ahmad said, according to a report by Hindustan Times, as covered by IRNA.

An enthusiastic minor from the old city was also seen trying to convince officials to accept his blood only to be turned away like many others.

“Sorry, we have enough blood in storage now. We can’t accept more,” hospital officials told those in the queue.

Kashmir has been on the boil after Wani was killed in an encounter with security forces on July 8. Violent clashes between angry protesters and security forces across the valley have killed over 40 people and injured thousands in the 11-day unrest even as curfew continues in the region.

Despite receiving an unprecedented number of patients with bullet and pellet injuries, hospitals in Srinagar say they have managed to keep enough blood in stock following a huge response from people who have eagerly donated for the injured.

The SMHS hospital, one of the two tertiary care hospitals in Srinagar, has received the highest number of critical patients from south and north Kashmir in the last 11 days.

Its medical superintendent, Dr Nazir Chowdhary, said that as many as 394 patients were brought to the hospital since July 9, a day after Wani’s death. Many of them had bullets, pellets, stones or other physical injuries.

The hospital has used as many as 320 units of blood for the injured but the supply of fresh blood is more than enough.

“The volunteers are still ready to donate. We have enough reserves,” Chowdhary said.

Clashes over Water in Southern Iran Kill 1, Injure 30

Boldaji incidents

ILNA reported on Tuesday, July 19, that 15 people were arrested after fighting broke out between supporters and opponents of a project to transfer water to a steel mill in the town of Boldaji, some 600km (373 miles) south of the Iranian capital, Tehran.

It says several cars were burnt by those opposing the project, the Associated Press quoted the report as saying.

Some locals opposed the water transfer because they feared they did not have enough water to meet their needs.

Iran is experiencing a drought, leading to water shortages across the country.

ILNA says that after the police intervened, peace returned to Boldaji, an agricultural area.

Top Banker’s Arrest Related to Big Corruption Scandal: IRGC Commander

Jafari

Asked by reporters on Wednesday, July 20, about the arrest by the IRGC intelligence forces of Ali Rastegar Sorkhei, former CEO of Iran’s Bank Mellat who had been already dismissed from his post, Major General Jafari explained that a particular area of the IRGC’s intelligence activity is dealing with security threats, countering hostile infiltration attempts and tackling economic corruption.

The commander added that the ex-banker was taken into custody by the IRGC intelligence forces under a court ruling.

People may think that the banker has been captured on charge of earning astronomical salaries, but that is only one of the charges, Major General Jafari noted, saying a much bigger corruption scandal has erupted this time and Rastegar Sorkhei has been arrested for involvement in it.

Asked if more people would be arrested in connection with the case, the commander said “some politicians and other individuals” have been also involved in the scandal.

The IRGC intelligence organization arrested Rastegar Sorkhei and his deputy for international affairs on Tuesday, under a court ruling charging them with broad activities in an organized banking scam.

Counteracting, Iran’s Only Choice against West’s JCPOA Non-Compliance: Larijani

Ali Larijani

Ali Larijani made the remarks on Wednesday, July 20, reacting to attempts by the UN’s Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and American politicians targeting the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), as the nuclear deal is officially known.

The UN chief recently submitted a report to the world body’s Security Council claiming that Iran’s ballistic missile tests “are not consistent with the constructive spirit” of the JCPOA. The report further urges Tehran to “refrain from conducting such ballistic missile launches since they have the potential to increase tensions in the region.”

Larijani said in his Wednesday remarks, “The Islamic Consultative Assembly (the Iranian Parliament) deplores the UN chief’s move and warns the US administration and the [US] House of Representatives and Senate that injurious measures against the nuclear agreement have reached such a level as to leave no option for Iran but to counteract.”

He said Ban’s report, while being legally non-binding for Iran, represented the secretary general’s “free fall.”

“On the one hand, the secretary general says in his report that Iran’s commitment to the [JCPOA] is encouraging, and on the other, he makes no reference to Iran’s concerns and complaints about the non-implementation of all of the Group 5+1’s obligations,” Larijani said.

“Had the Secretary General been tasked with producing a report on both side’s fulfilment of their obligations or is he the P5+1’s monitor in this?” the Iranian Parliament speaker said.

The JCPOA envisages Tehran scaling back its nuclear program in return for the lifting of all nuclear-related sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

However, months after the accord went into effect in January, the US and the European Union (EU) continue to maintain some sanctions on Iran, scaring off companies from resuming trade with the country.

European banks have balked at the idea of resuming transaction with Iran, fearing punitive US measures. US Republicans, meanwhile, are pushing through three anti-Iran bills in the Congress.

The Group 5+1 includes the US, Britain, Germany, Russia, France and China.

Larijani said the nuclear deal includes no reference to Iran’s ballistic missiles, adding that it is only Resolution 2231 where the subject pops up merely to call on Iran to refrain from developing missiles designed to carry nuclear warheads.

“Has Iran designed any such thing? Why would the UN chief then declare that the spirit of the JCPOA has been violated?” Larijani asked.

UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which was adopted on July 20, 2015 to endorse the JCPOA, puts no limits on Iran’s missile activities and merely “calls upon” Iran to refrain from engaging in developing missiles that are “designed to be capable of” carrying nuclear warheads.

Iran says it is involved in no such missile activity and has no such warheads.

The senior parliamentarian, meanwhile, asked the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) to prepare a plan for the development of a new nuclear plant to be used for enrichment purposes that would satisfy the country’s needs.

He asked that the AEOI notify the Parliament of proceedings regarding the development of the plant.

Problems of JCPOA Implementation Discussed in Vienna Meeting: Araqchi

Araghchi

Vienna on Tuesday hosted the fourth meeting of the commission monitoring the implementation of the nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, between Iran and the Group 5+1 (the US, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany).

As regards the content of the meeting, Araqchi said the US has been urged by fellow members of the group to facilitate banking ties with Tehran through the clarification of transaction channels with Tehran.

“At the JCPOA commission meeting, a demand was raised that the US clarify (the means for) the facilitation of banking ties with Iran,” Araqchi stated.

He added that members of the group lack consensus on the methods of banking transactions with Iran.

“Some countries admitted that the current circumstances, particularly the conditions created by the US Treasury on the international level, do not provide the necessary clarification and information to economic firms and enterprises that wish to work with Iran.”

The first post-JCPOA meeting of the joint commission was held in the Austrian capital on April 22.

All nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran were terminated after Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached the nuclear agreement on July 14, 2015 and started implementing it on January 16.

However, months after the agreement went into effect in January, the US and the European Union continued to maintain some sanctions on Iran, scaring off companies from resuming trade with the country.

Iran Rejects Arab League Chief’s Allegations, Renews Call for Muslim Unity

“The Islamic Republic of Iran calls on the Islamic world to realize the delicate situation in the region and the world at this juncture, and urges more solidarity and unity of the Muslim world in the face of common threats, such as the Zionist regime’s aggression, terrorism and extremism,” Bahram Qassemi said on Tuesday.

He made the comments in reaction to Arab League’s Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, who claimed in an interview with London-based Asharq al-Awsat on Sunday that Iran is interfering in the affairs of the Arab countries.

Dismissing the allegations categorically, the Iranian spokesman reiterated that the only solution to the ongoing crises in some regional countries would be political approaches, dialogue and interaction among the warring sides.

Qassemi also warned that those promoting Islamophobia are attempting to create discord between the Muslims, fan the flames of sectarian and religious violence and drive a wedge between Shiite and Sunni Muslims.

He finally expressed the hope that the Arab League chief would consider the realities on the ground and push for unity of the Islamic world.
