Iran Condemns Israel’s Desecration of Al-Aqsa Mosque, Attacks on Gaza

Qassemi

In a statement released on Tuesday evening, Qassemi denounced the Israeli attacks and said such moves indicate “the aggressive nature” of the occupying Israeli regime and Israelis desperation in the face of “the praiseworthy resistance of the Palestinian people”.

He further pointed to the 47th anniversary of an arson attack on the Al-Aqsa Mosque and called on the international community to stop Israel’s ceaseless desecration of the mosque and excavations around and under its compound as well as the regime’s policy of Judaization of al-Quds.

The Iranian spokesman also said certain governments’ move to normalize relations with the Zionist regime of Israel is tantamount to turning a blind eye to the regime’s heinous crimes against the Palestinian nation.

Israeli forces launched airstrikes and artillery fire on the Palestinian towns of Beit Hanun, Beit Lahia, and Jabalia, on Sunday just hours after several Palestinians were wounded in attacks in the northern Gaza Strip.

Several people were injured in the attacks which also damaged the Palestinian cities’ infrastructure.

Israel claimed the attacks were launched in response to a rocket fired from Gaza which fell in the city of Sderot.

In early July 2014, Tel Aviv waged a war on the Gaza Strip. The 50-day military aggression, which ended on August 26, killed nearly 2,200 Palestinians, including over 570 children. Over 11,100 others were also wounded in the war. Israel continues to carry out attacks on the Palestinian enclave from time to time.

Asghar Farhadi’s ‘A Separation’ among 21st Century’s Top 10

A-Separation-Wallpaper-01

A poll by BBC Culture of 177 film critics from 36 countries aimed to find the best films of recent memory.

Iran is represented in the list by Farhadi’s ‘A Separation’ (2011) at No 9, and Kiarostami’s ‘Certified Copy’ (2010) and ‘Ten’ (2002) at numbers 46 and 98, respectively.

The resulting top 100 list has Mulholland Drive (2001) at No 1, followed by Wong Kar-wai’s In the Mood for Love (2000); There Will Be Blood (2007); Spirited Away (2001); and Richard Linklater’s Boyhood (2014).

The most popular directors in the list, all with three films each, were Wes Anderson, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Christopher Nolan, Michael Haneke, Paul Thomas Anderson and Joel and Ethan Coen.

Matthew Anderson, the editor of BBC Culture, said greatest film polls often looked right back into the past.

“But we wanted to find out about the best films in recent memory. These are the films that most people feel strongly about.

“We hope that this list will spark discussion and debate, not just among critics and film aficionados, but among everyone who enjoys movies and has an opinion about what makes a good one.”

Each critic was allowed to submit 10 films which resulted in a total of 599, then sorted into the top 100.

The most popular year for films was 2012, with 10 films in the top 100 including The Act of Killing (14) and Holy Motors (16). Nine films from 2013 also featured, including 12 Years a Slave and Blue is the Warmest Colour, The Guardian reported.

There is no room for some of the most popular films of the last 16 years, no Harry Potters or Hobbits or Pirates of the Caribbean; but there is a place for the more obviously commercial movies such as George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) at 19, WALL-E at 29 and Ratatouille at joint 90.

BBC received responses from 177 – from every continent except Antarctica. Some are newspaper or magazine reviewers, others write primarily for websites; academics and cinema curators are well-represented too. For the purposes of this poll, BBC has decided that a list of the greatest films of the 21st Century should include the year 2000.

Vexed Issue of Children Born from Sexual Jihad in Mosul

isis

According to a report by Fars, as translated by IFP, al-Sultan said that Iraqi authorities have to deal with countless problems after the liberation of Mosul.

Addressing the second international conference on Psychological and Media Operations to Counter ISIS, al-Sultan pointed to the children of Jihad al-Nikah, who have no identity, as one of the most important issues in Mosul.

“Hereby I ask the authorities in Iraq to help us with the problem,” he noted, as reported by Almada Press.

“Another issue is that Mosul’s children have fallen way behind their education because of the war and occupation caused by ISIS terrorists,” he emphasized.

Jihad al-Nikah is a controversial fatwa attributed to Wahhabi scholars, based on which women voluntarily offer themselves to terrorists for gratification of their carnal desires.

This term has become widespread since the inception of Syrian crisis and caused quite a scandal for the terrorists and their advocates.

President: Iran’s Economy on Right Track

Rouhani

“Despite all the obstacles and problems that have particularly arisen in the oil-exporting countries, our economy is on the right track,” the president said in a ceremony attended by his cabinet members, held at the mausoleum of the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, south of Tehran.

The event was held on Tuesday, at the beginning of the Government Week, as a gesture of allegiance to Imam Khomeini’s goals.

Highlighting the major achievements by his administration over the past three years, President Rouhani said the inflation rate is now a single-digit number dropping to below 9 percent, the economic growth in the first quarter of the current Iranian year has increased to 4.4 percent, the industrial growth has risen to 8.8 percent, and the value of non-oil exports has risen by $3.3 billion, outstripping the value of imports after many years.

He also noted that the country has managed to struggle through all the anti-Iran resolutions and sanctions, saying today’s conditions are set for progress and development more than ever.

The administration is determined to carry out the Resistance Economy policies, trigger economic boom and progress, and create jobs, he underlined.

In March, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei named the new Persian year “Year of Resistance Economy: Action and Implementation.”

Thereafter, President Rouhani said his administration would make every effort to carry out the policies of Resistance Economy.

Back in 2014, Ayatollah Khamenei had sent a proclamation to heads of Iran’s branches of power and outlined general policies to boost the country’s economy and lower its vulnerabilities under a grand plan, dubbed Resistance Economy.

Here is IFP’s translation of the message published on Tuesday, August 23, by the Leader’s official website:

To the athletic team returned from Olympics:

The champions who made the Iranian nation happy by winning medals; to the heroes who were deprived of their rights because of unfair judgments; to the athletes whose failures would not devalue their efforts; to the female athletes who displayed to the world the honourable covering of Iranian woman; to the brave lady who shined at the forefront of the Team Iran in her Islamic hijab; and to the coaches and veterans of Iranian sport teams;

I extend my welcome, and thank all of you.

Shamkhani Highlights Iran’s Clever Initiative in Syria

Ali Shamkhani

The senior Iranian official said Tuesday that close cooperation between Tehran and Moscow is not confined to countering terrorism but the “strategic cooperation” that meets their national interests covers a broad range of issues.

Highlighting Iran’s smart policies and political might in arranging for the capacities of one of the world’s strongest air forces to be used is Syria, Shamkhani said concerted action by Iran, Russia and Syria in the recent military operations against terrorist groups has stifled the “delay strategy” of the US that aimed to influence security developments in Syria.

Certain western and Arab countries who are under the delusion of having the power to change the regional equations were defeated by the Islamic Republic’s political, defensive and security initiative in the recent operation, he stated.

He also noted that the hue and cry in Western and Saudi media outlets about joint action by Iran, Russia and Syria was a psychological war aiming to whitewash the heavy defeats that their proxies have suffered in Syria’s Tadmur, Idlib, suburbs of Latakia and Reef Aleppo.

Shamkhani further made it clear that Iran will employ all of the “domestic and foreign capacities” to press ahead with the unshakable policy of deterring threats, particularly the threat of Takfiri terrorism.

His comments came after announcement of Russian warplanes’ use of an Iranian airbase for hitting targets in Syria caused a few raised eyebrows.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

Meanwhile, Russia’s aerial support for the Syrian forces since September 2015 has given fresh impetus to the fight against the foreign-backed terrorists.

Iran has also remained a close ally of Syria and supports its legitimate government in the face of militancy.

19% Decrease in Cultivation of Opium in Afghanistan

d84ca943a18a399a707c4ef0ebe75d46925fa352

According to a report by Mizan, as translated by IFP, Salamat Azimi noted that there was a 19% decrease in the amount of opium cultivated in Afghanistan during 2015.

However, he added, the statistics are not satisfactory.

He highlighted people’s role in the eradication of illicit drugs, and urged all Afghan people to work in this field.

Nasir Ahmad Durrani, the Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, also noted that the burden of fight against illicit drugs cannot be put on the shoulders of only one ministry.

“To eradicate illicit drugs, all people and authorities should join hands.”

He pointed to the roles that the ministries of Education, Higher Education, Intelligence, and Culture can play in the campaign against narcotics by providing people with information about the harms of drugs.

Durrani referred to unemployment as the major cause of increase in drug addiction and opium cultivation, saying that the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development is trying to decrease the number of addicts by creating more jobs.

He also highlighted the roles of religious authorities and the Ministry of Agriculture in the fight against drugs, saying that the cultivation of wheat and saffron can replace that of opium.

“Cultivation and production of narcotics is against Islam and Afghanistan’s Constitution,” a deputy intelligence minister said, highlighting the need for serious fight against narcotics.
