Iran Denies Speculations about Hajj Pilgrimage

bahram-qassemi

In an interview with ISNA, Bahram Qassemi denied reports that Iranian pilgrims will not be allowed in the upcoming Hajj, a great Islamic ritual held every year in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

At a press conference on Monday, the spokesman had announced that Iran has not still received a formal invitation from Saudi Arabia for the next year’s Hajj.

Saudis have sent invitation letters to 80 countries, but not Iran, Qassemi had said, expecting that “we will have no plan for Hajj pilgrimage this year.”

More than 460 Iranians were among some 7,000 pilgrims who died on September 24, 2015, in a crush of people in Mina, near Mecca, during Hajj pilgrimage.

The incident marked the worst ever tragedy during Hajj.

In 2016, Saudi Arabia barred all Iranians from making Hajj pilgrimage.

Tensions ran high between Tehran and Riyadh after Saudi Arabia’s execution of prominent Shiite cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, and a subsequent attack by outraged Iranian protesters on the Saudi embassy in Tehran, which resulted in the Arab country’s decision to sever its ties with the Islamic Republic.

US Disrupting Operation to Liberate Iraqi City of Mosul: Iranian Official

Shamkhani-Nouri al-Maliki

The US has resorted to obstructive measures so that the Iraqi military operation for liberating Mosul will drag on, Shamkhani said at a meeting with former prime minister and incumbent vice-president of Iraq, Nouri al-Maliki, held in Tehran on Tuesday.

US Disrupting Operation to Liberate Iraqi City of Mosul: Iranian Official

The US is against an end to the security crisis in the Middle East, Shamkhani deplored.

He further assured the Iraqi government and nation of Iran’s unwavering support in the fight against terrorism.

Shamkhani also noted that the large-scale military operation to recapture Mosul has put the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group in a downward spiral of defeat, stressing that the operation will disable the Takfiri terrorists from rearming or hatching new plots.

Maliki, for his part, appreciated Tehran’s backing for Baghdad in its anti-terror campaign, and underlined that keeping the trend of victories against terrorist groups and their Western or regional sponsors requires plans to boost political, defense and security capabilities.

US Disrupting Operation to Liberate Iraqi City of Mosul: Iranian Official

The Iraqi operation to retake Mosul from terrorists has been going on since October 17, 2016. The battle began with 30,000 Iraqi soldiers backed by Hashid al-Shaabi (voluntary) and Kurdish fighters. Mosul has been occupied by Daesh since 2014.

In December 2016, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei recommended Iraqi politicians not to trust the US, saying Washington has no real intention to wipe out Takfiri terrorist groups and wants to use them for future purposes.

Italian Photographer Portrays Use of Science and Math in Persian Architecture

El Sr. Rumi visitó las mezquitas de Irán, incluyendo la Gran Mezquita, fotografiada en las mañanas tempranas para apreciar su belleza impresionante

According to a report by IFP, these stunning images show how a photographer spent a month exploring Iran to understand the science and mathematics behind the ‘divine beauty’ of Islamic buildings.

After reading an article about the use of specific ratios and geometry in Persian architecture, Massimo Rumi was fixated on the idea of travelling from his home country of Italy to Iran.

He took his trip in November 2016 and only intended it to be 10 days long, however the ease of travel in Iran and friendliness of the locals, made him choose to stay longer, Daily Mail reported.

During this time, the photographer visited the oldest and most breathtaking mosques and bazaars in the world.

He said, ”Visiting Iran was always in my mind, not only to admire the incredible mix of colours and geometric patterns of many Iranian buildings, but also to learn more about one of the oldest civilisations to ever exist in this world.”

“The holy grail of Persian architecture are Isfahan and Shiraz, but everywhere you go you find something that will surprise and amaze you.”

Here are his wonderful photos of Persian architecture:

One Single Step Left to Retrieval of Achaemenid Inscriptions from US

Achaemenid Royal Inscriptions

According to a Farsi report by ISNA, Achaemenid Royal Inscriptions, which consisted of more than 30,000 clay tablets, were delivered to the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago in 1935. They were supposed to be studied and returned in a time span of three years. This did not happen on time and with the pursuit of the case, part of them was returned in 1948 and another in 1971. The third parcel was retrieved in 2004, with one part still remaining there.

On the other hand, following the explosion which took place in Bethlehem in 1997, on the basis of the groundless claims that accused Iran of having had a role in that event, certain Jewish figures appealed to the juridical power to confiscate those tablets for compensation.

However, during the hearings, Iranian representatives proved that the tablets are actually cultural historical artefacts with no commercial aspect and thus cannot be confiscated. Their voice was supported by the lawyers of the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago.

Ultimately, with the serious pursuit of the case by Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism Organization (ICTHO) in the past two years, it seems that the file will soon be closed and hopefully, the last parcel of the Achaemenid Treasure will arrive home in the near future.

Mohammad-Reza Kargar, the director general of ICHTO’s Museums and Historical Artefacts Dept., says “efforts to retrieve Iran’s historical artefacts smuggled into other countries are among the most fundamental missions of ICHTO.”

“The point is that it is only after the discovery of these artefacts that we can begin the process of their retrieval,” he added.

“Smuggled objects are discovered in two ways: either through the judicial authorities of the countries to which these artefacts are smuggled or by the Interpol. In any case, given the membership of most countries in 1970 UNESCO Convention which demands countries to return the historical artefacts of the countries of their origin, the pursuit of their retrieval can only begin with their discovery.”

“There are many people who are astounded by the high number of Iran’s historical artefacts found in foreign museums and expect Iran to retrieve them. Unfortunately, this is not an easy task, but requires a very long protracted process,” he went on to say.

“During certain historical eras of our country, for example the Qajar era, permissions were issued for foreigners in the form of commercial excavations for a small amount of cash, and in return they were allowed to take away what they found. Most of Iran’s historical treasures now found in foreign museums were actually exported during that era,” Kargar noted.

“In addition, there are also certain historical artefacts which found their way into foreign museums through smuggling, which is very difficult to prove and requires a long costly process as we must first prove their property and then prove that they were actually taken illicitly out of the country,” he added.

29 Int’l Firms Can Bid for Iran’s Oil and Gas Projects

Oil-Iran

According to the report by the oil ministry’s news website Shana on Monday, 29 companies, including Shell, France’s Total, Italy’s Eni, Malaysia’s Petronas and Russia’s Gazprom and Lukoil, as well as companies from China, Austria, Japan and other countries, will be allowed to invest in the Islamic Republic’s oil and gas projects under Iran Petroleum Contract (IPC) model.

Major absentees were Britain’s BP as well as Norway’s Statoil.

Back in August, President Hassan Rouhani’s cabinet approved an amended draft of the new model for oil and gas contracts. on September 17, Iran’s parliament gave the go-ahead to the government to put its new model into effect.

The new amendments were endorsed after Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei stressed that no new oil and gas contracts for international companies would be awarded without necessary reforms.

The new oil and investment contract for international firms, known as the Iran Petroleum Contract (IPC), will replace Iran’s buyback oil deals.

Iran worked on the oil contract model for two years.

Sheikh Nimr’s Execution Proved Saudi Arabia’s Imprudence: Iranian MPs

Sheikh Nimr

“The execution and martyrdom of Ayatollah Sheikh Nimr in a time when extremist Takfiri terrorists have disrupted welfare and security in the region and the world… signified the depth of imprudence and irresponsibility of Saudi rulers,” said the statement signed by 191 Iranian MPs.

Saudi Arabia, which has openly and secretly supported terrorism in the region, invaded Yemen and killed its innocent people, and supported crackdown on the citizens of other countries, is playing an unconstructive role in the regional security, the lawmakers said.

On January 2, 2016, Saudi Arabia executed 47 prisoners, including Sheikh Nimr.

The senior cleric was detained in July 2012 on charges of delivering anti-regime speeches and defending political prisoners.

His arrest sparked widespread protests in the Arab country, leaving several people dead.

Nimr’s Qatif-area hometown of Awamiya has been the scene of repeated security incidents since 2011.

Iran Cuts Electricity Supplies to Iraq

electricity

Arash Kordi, the managing director of Iran’s electricity company Tavanir, told ILNA that Iran has cut its electricity supplies to the neighbouring Iraq because of their heavy debts.

“The export is temporarily stopped because their deadline is over,” he noted, adding that the export will not be resumed as long as a new contract is signed.

Mosaab al-Modares, Iraqi Ministry of Electricity spokesman, also confirmed that Iran has cut the majority of electricity that it transfers to Iraq.

According to an agreement signed in 2005 between the two countries for electricity supplies, Tehran provides nearly 1.5 to 2 thousand megawatts of electricity to Baghdad.

“Iran, due to Iraq’s debts of nearly $1 billion, cut nearly 1.2 megawatts of electricity which is transferred from five main lines,” al-Modares told Anadolu Agency.

Highlighting that they are in contact with Iraq’s Ministry of Finance to prevent a complete blackout of electricity, al-Modares noted that a payment of $100 million was previously made last May to Iran but since then, no further payments have been made.

Last July, Iran halted electricity to several cities in neighbouring Iraq.

American Senator Warns against Consequences of Syria Truce

lindsey-graham-twitter

In a post in his Twitter account, Graham said, “I fear what is being hailed as a ceasefire in Syria will become a capitulation to Russia and Iran.”

He went on to say that “Turkey setting the conditions for Iranian domination of Damascus is very troubling and dangerous.”

“If this agreement gives Iran de-facto control of Damascus (yet another Arab capital), it will create more problems than it solves,” he added.

In another post, he claimed, “Any so-called peace agreement that allows Damascus to be controlled by the Iranians will be a recruiting bonanza for radical Sunni Islamic groups such as ISIL, Al Qaeda, and Al Nusra.”

“The bottom line to this deal: Assad crossed red lines, survives, and wins. Very bad day for America,” Graham noted.
