French President Hails Iran’s Role in Fighting Terror in Mideast

French President

In a Monday phone call with Rouhani, French President Macron highlighted Iran’s major role in resolving the crisis in Syria and in countering terrorism in the Middle East.

He further called for concerted action to contribute to peace and stability in the region, according to media reports.

Macron also referred to the nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, known as JCPOA, as a significant deal for the regional and international security, emphasizing that all sides should support the accord for economic development and closer cooperation with Iran.

He also congratulated President Rouhani on securing a second term in the Friday’s presidential election in Iran.

Rouhani, for his part, highlighted France’s “influential” role in the course of negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program that resulted in the JCPOA, but at the same time called on France to play a more active role in the implementation of the deal.

The Iranian president deplored a lack of commitment to the nuclear deal by certain parties, saying, “We expect France and the European Union to play a more active role in the implementation of the agreement.”

He further hailed the growing economic ties between Tehran and Paris, and stressed the need for the removal of obstacles to banking and financial cooperation with the European country.

President Rouhani also voiced Iran’s readiness to attract French investors to develop a partnership in various fields, including the transportation industry and infrastructures in Iran.

He finally expressed Iran’s preparedness to cooperate with France at all levels in the fight against terrorism and in settling a crisis that has gripped Syria for more than six years.

Emmanuel Macron, leader of the center-left En Marche party, won France’s presidential election in early May.

Iran’s President Rouhani also won a second term by garnering 57 percent of the votes in Friday’s election.

“Manchester Bombing Result of Trump’s Dance with Chief of Terrorists”

“The terrorist blast in Manchester was a consequence of Trump’s sword dance with the chief of terrorists [the Saudi King],” Brigadier General Mohsen Rezaei, a former commander of Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and the secretary of Iran’s Expediency Council, said on Tuesday.

He made the remarks in a post on his Twitter account in reaction to the Monday night’s terrorist bombing in an arena in Manchester, which has so far killed 22 and injured 59.

The ISIS terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Iran Condemns Manchester Terrorist Attack

Qassemi on Tuesday strongly condemned the Monday night’s attack in Manchester, England, which killed and wounded tens of people, and expressed sympathy with the bereaved families of the victims.

Iran believes the roots and ideological origins of terrorist attacks, from the one which recently killed a number of Iranian border guards in Mirjaveh to the Monday night’s attack on Manchester, are the same, Qassemi noted.

All the countries that fall victim to the Takfiri and extremist thoughts of these terrorist groups must join hands and launch a serious, targeted, and honest campaign against them, he went on to say.

He also said that forming fake alliances and misleading others about the origins of promoting and arming terrorism and extremism would lead to the cancerous growth of terror in various parts of the world.

Terrorism cannot be eradicated unless there is a firm resolve, comprehensive mechanisms are developed, and double-standard policies are avoided, Qassemi added.

22 Killed in ISIS Terror Attack on Manchester Arena

22 Killed in ISIS Terror Attack on Manchester Arena

Thousands of concert-goers were packed into the venue to see American singer Ariana Grande when two explosions were reported.

British Prime Minister Theresa May has called it “an appalling attack”. 22 have so far lost their lives and 59 injured following the attack, which was claimed by the ISIS terrorist group.

Multiple witnesses reported hearing two “huge bangs” at the venue shortly after US singer’s gig finished at around 10.30pm on Monday evening.

The area around the arena was swamped with police and emergency services and approach roads were cordoned off.

Minutes later eyewitnesses described seeing people “running and screaming” from the arena, with some covered in blood.

The incident is now being treated as a terrorist attack.

Swarms of armed police were joined by a bomb disposal unit as teams from across the region worked to secure the area and help the injured.

Grande, who was not hurt in the blast, tweeted earlier that she was “broken” by news of the casualties:

Chief constable Ian Hopkins says the attacker died in the explosion.

He says that while police believe the man was acting alone in the attack last night, investigations are ongoing to establish if he was part of a network.

He says police believe the man was “carrying an improvised explosive device, which he detonated causing this atrocity”.

Iran President to Meet Mirza Aqa, His Most Famous Supporter

Iran President to Meet Mirza Aqa, His Most Famous Supporter-1

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani is planned to meet one his famous supporters, an old man known as Mirza Aqa from the northwestern Iranian province of Ardabil, whose photo was widely shared on social media prior to Iran’s May 19 presidential election.

The meeting between Rouhani and Mirza Mousa Taleb-Qeshlaq is going to be held later today (Monday) in the Iranian capital of Tehran.

Amid the partisan clamour of the election campaign, Mirza Aqa’s touching photo went viral on social media. It was the photo of a man holding a poster of Rouhani in his hand during a stump speech in Ardabil on Rouhani’s campaign trail. The tears in Mirza Aqa’s eyes showed that he had a lot to say.

The photo rapidly came under the social media spotlight grabbing all the attention. Many still remember him as an effective figure who played a significant role in championing support for Rouhani during the pre-election period.

Mirza Aqa was standing among Rouhani’s supporters with his eyes full of fear and hope. He voiced his support for Rouhani, while holding his picture, to show that the incumbent president’s supporters are not merely from a certain wealthy social class, as claimed by Rouhani’s rivals.

Long Live Rouhani

Following the going viral of Mirza Aqa’s photo on social media, a video of his remarks in an interview was also released, in which he was asked about his very effective photo.

“When Mr. Rouhani said we squeezed out the money frozen at American banks from the hand of the US, tear sprang into my eyes. I am extremely grateful to Mr. Rouhani for what he did. Long live Mr. Rouhani.”

Mirza Aqa to Meet Rouhani

The great impact of Mirza Aqa’s photo on Rouhani’s re-election campaign over the course of his visit to Ardabil, and his supporters, convinced many to ask the re-elected president to find and meet him.

As confirmed by the governor-general of Ardabil Province, Majid Khodabakhsh, Rouhani is going to meet Mirza Aqa who is a man from the lower social class and, due to his financial problems in the time of former president Ahmadinejad, has been forced to sell his van, his only means of livelihood, and make a living from selling fruit without any vehicles.

In a Farsi interview with the Etemad Newspaper, he said, “I like Mr. Rouhani very much. I also liked Mr. [Akbar] Hashemi [Rafsanjani, the late chairman of the Iran’s Expediency Council] a lot. Several years ago, when [ex-president] Mr. [Mohammad] Khatami had travelled to Ardabil and was [delivering a speech] at the city’s sports complex (Takhti stadium), I liked very much to go and see him, but I arrived there late. He was gone. Thus, when I heard that Mr. Rouhani had come to Ardabil and is planned to deliver a [stump] speech at the same venue, I hurried there to see him. On that day, I had bought 200kg potatoes from the wet market and had carried them on my handcart to a local square to sell them. Nevertheless, as soon as I heard Mr. Rouhani was heading for Takhti stadium, I left my handcart, as well as the potatoes, in the street and ran all the way to the stadium.”

“A few days earlier, I had received a number of photos of Mr. Rouhani, and I had put them on my handcart next to the potatoes and onions I sold to people and showed them to my customers, telling them to vote for him. I made my customers swear to God that they will cast their ballots in favour of Mr. Rouhani.”

When asked about what he is going to tell Mr. Rouhani when he meets him, Mirza Aqa said, “I have not seen my young son, who is working in Tehran, for 17 months. Tonight (May 21), I will head for Tehran to go to Iran’s state TV (the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting), along with my son, and give an interview tomorrow (May 22) early in the morning. Then, as they have arranged for us, we will meet Iran’s president. I want to ask Mr. Rouhani to provide my son with a job.”

Asked about how he found out that his photo had gone viral on the social media, he said one day, as usual, he had been carrying the potatoes and onions he had purchased from the market on his handcart to where he wanted to sell them when a young bank clerk showed him his photo on the screen of his mobile phone and told him that he has become quite famous.

On his present living condition, he said he has a daughter, who is married and has a child, and a 27-year-old son who has been working in Tehran for years.

“Since I was young up until a few years ago, I sold fruit with my van at the local square, until one day, the staff of the municipality came and took away all my fruit. It was what they always did. After that, I did not have any money to buy more fruit from the wet market. Even if I had the money, they would not let me sell fruit in the street. I was bankrupt. I obtained a 4-million-toman loan with an interest rate of 20 percent [from a bank] to be able to meet my expenses and live a normal life. I had to pay more than $30 per month to pay off the loan. My life had been back to normal again, until a few months ago, they [the staff of the municipality] took away one of my handcarts from me and smashed it into pieces. I still have another handcart and am working with it. Since the time my daughter got married, I am settling her debts. It is almost impossible to run a life and pay back all the debts with only $8.5 per day. Nevertheless, I always thank god.”

Mirza Aqa is a disabled war veteran and is very emotional. While, speaking, every now and then, he shed some tears. He was worried about his homesick son and the debts he has to pay off because of purchasing his daughter’s dowry. But, he is hopeful to see better days in the future.

Rouhani to Hold First Press Conference after Re-Election

rouhani-media

Rouhani’s first press conference after his re-election will start at 5 pm (Tehran local time). He is going to answer the questions of Iranian and foreign correspondents.

He would also talk about the most important issues in the country, particularly after the Iranians’ high turnout in the 12th presidential election and the 5th City and Village Councils elections

President Rouhani would highlight the country’s positions on the latest regional and international developments, according to his deputy chief of staff for communications and information, Parviz Esmaeili.

Qalibaf Congratulates Rouhani on People’s ‘Epic’ Turnout

In a statement released on Sunday (May 21), the conservative politician Qalibaf, who dropped out of Iran’s May 19 presidential election to secure more votes for his fellow-partisan Ebrahim Raisi, extended his congratulations to the Iranian people, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and the country’s re-elected president Hassan Rouhani on the nation’s huge and “epic” turnout.

The final election results, declared earlier on Saturday (May 20), showed that Rouhani garnered 23.5 million (57 percent) votes out of 41.2 million ballots cast on Friday and secured his second consecutive term in office.

According to a report by IFP, Qalibaf noted in his statement that the ‘glorious’ participation of the Iranian people in the election and the Leader’s ‘prudent’ guidelines finally led to the holding of an election which lived up to the reputation and international status of the Islamic Republic of Iran and, once again, reminded everyone of the ‘effectiveness’ and ‘legitimacy’ of the Establishment.

“This was a healthy election which was held without any insecurity and attracted a massive turnout. I, personally, congratulate the people, the dear Leader of the Islamic Revolution and the re-elected president on this epic turnout.”

Qalibaf also urged Rouhani to honour his presidential campaign pledges, and vowed to be committed to holding the government to its promises and do not give up on doing the follow ups to this end.

Iran Blasts Trump’s Baseless, Interventionist Allegations

In comments on Monday, Bahram Qassemi strongly criticized the new US administration for its “deceitful stances, interfering remarks, and destructive and provocative measures”, one day after Trump accused Iran of stoking the fires of sectarian conflict and terror during a trip to Riyadh.

The Iranian spokesman also reminded the US officials of their pre-election assertions that the previous American administration has had a role in the creation and support of Takfiri terrorist groups like Daesh (ISIL), calling on Trump administration to end the policy of bellicosity, interference, Iranophobia, and arms sale to the real sponsors of terrorism.

During his trip to Riyadh, Trump signed a nearly $110 billion defense deal with Saudi Arabia.

Elsewhere in his comments, Qassemi recommended the regional countries to care about their people’s welfare and respect their right to decide their fate instead of spending billions of dollars on attracting US support.

Dismissing Trump’s accusation that Iran is destabilizing the region, Qassemi said the tragic irony is that the US itself has been providing the Zionist regime of Israel with military, financial and intelligence supports for decades in suppression of the Palestinian nation, and has been also involved in the killing of Yemeni people by arming certain Arab states of the Persian Gulf region.

The spokesman finally underlined that Iran, as a democratic and stable state, enjoys popular support, and would not change its policy of seeking peace and calm, respecting good neighborliness, and fighting against violence and extremism.
