Iran Parliament Gives Vote of Confidence to Rouhani’s Ministerial Picks

Ardakanian - Gholami

According to the results declared by Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani on state TV, 225 lawmakers voted in favour of Reza Ardakanian, the proposed minister of energy.

180 lawmakers also gave a vote of confidence to Mansour Gholami, the proposed minister of science.

Ardakanian was proposed after Rouhani’s earlier pick Habibollah Bitaraf failed to receive a vote of confidence from Iranian MPs back in September.

Ardakanian, an international expert in management of water resources and environment, holds a PhD degree in Water Resources Management from Canada’s McMaster University.

He is the Founding Director of the UN University’s Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and of Resources (known as UNU-FLORES).

He has been on the boards of various international programmes/organizations such as the UNESCO International Hydrological Programme, the UNESCO Institute for Water Education, the International Hydropower Association, and the UNU Institute for Environment and Human Security.

A faculty member at Sharif University of Technology, Ardakanian formerly held a number of national offices in Iran, including Deputy Energy Minister for Water Affairs (2001–2005).

Gholami was also put to the vote of lawmakers on Sunday as Rouhani’s first pick for the post. The Iranian president had not picked anyone as his science minister when proposing his cabinet to the Parliament in September.

Currently the dean of Hamadan’s Buali Sina University, he holds a PhD degree in Agriculture from Australia’s University of Adelaide.

Ecotourism, Major Attraction to Foreign Tourists Visiting Yazd

The provinces of Yazd, Isfahan and Fars make up the three sides of Iran’s tourism triangle, drawing large numbers of foreign tourists visiting Iran.

The tourist tringle is the result of the invaluable historical features as well as ancient monuments, which are the legacy of the diligent people living in the provinces.

Yazd, in particular, has been one of the provinces which officials have picked as a priority in the country’s tourism sector.

“The tourism industry is one of eight priorities of Yazd province. The tourism triangle will also contribute heavily to synergy between the three provinces and help remove the existing obstacles,” said Mohammad Mirmohammadi, the provincial governor of Yazd, at a meeting on Iran’s Golden Tourism Triangle in early 2017.

According to a Farsi report by IRNA, most foreign tourists visiting Iran, including Yazd province, are mostly interested in historical places. During their stay in Iran, they mostly visit ancient buildings and mud-brick monuments. They are mesmerized by the ancient architecture of buildings in Yazd, which is a sign of its people’s creativity, innovation and diligence.

Most tourists prefer to stay in traditional places which bring to mind the lifestyles of people who lived in the province in the past. Accordingly, ecotourism accommodations have been all the rage for quite some time, and the provincial cultural heritage, handicrafts and tourism department has prioritized such accommodations as tourists’ favourites.

Likewise, efforts are underway to promote ecotourism in the province. Loans are also offered to entrepreneurs who are interested to set up businesses and create jobs in the ecotourism sector.

Ecotourism accommodations and resorts have been developed throughout the province and drawn a considerable number of foreign tourists.

Iran to Produce 20% Enriched Uranium in 4 Days: Salehi

Iran to Produce 20% Enriched Uranium in 4 Days: Salehi

“Iran can produce 20% enriched uranium in four days, but Tehran does not want to see the nuclear deal scrapped,” Salehi said on Sunday after a joint press conference with Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano in Tehran.

Section T of Iran Nuclear Deal

Elsewhere in his remarks, Salehi referred to the controversy over the Section T of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and said “when the Section T was being composed, our expectations were taken into consideration, but unfortunately the other side gives its own alternative interpretations.”

In Section T of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) a set of restrictions on research and other activities that could result in a nuclear explosive device are spelled out.

Salehi told the reporters in Tehran that “we have already talked about the T Section and our positions have been announced explicitly. Section T is not subject to specific inspections,” Tasnim News Agency wrote in a Farsi report.

Nuclear Propulsion Project

Salehi also pointed to the nuclear propulsion project, which the AEOI has been tasked by President Hassan Rouhani to pursue.

“The responsibility of the nuclear-propulsion systems is with the AEOI. It is a long-term research project. We have submitted two reports, and are working on it. If the budget is provided, with this pace it will take 10 to 15 years, because the project is very complicated.”

Inspection of Iranian Sites

In another part of his statements, the Iranian official noted that Amano did not request to visit Iran’s nuclear sites.

“Mr Amano came to Iran at his own request in light of the importance of the JCPOA and the events that have recently happened in the United States,” he went on to say.

Salehi said Amano is interested to take some actions in this regard.

“We expressed our satisfaction with the IAEA reports and its inspections. So far the agency has reported eight times that Iran has complied with its obligations. We hope the IAEA will continue with this approach,” said Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran.

Salehi told reporters that “we know there is a lot of pressure from the United States on the IAEA, but according to the rules and the oath the Director General has taken, we hope he would express his technical views independently and in an unbiased way.”

Iran Complying with All Obligations: Amano

Amano, for his part, stressed that Tehran has complied with all its obligations.

“All the parties involved in the nuclear deal must comply with their obligations,” said Amano.

Amano also added that “the JCPOA is an agreement between Iran and the P5+1 which is endorsed by the UN Security Council. We have been monitoring so far and we say that Iran has fully complied with all its commitments in the framework of the accord.”

Iranian Firms to Expand Presence in Russia’s Astrakhan

Iranian Firms to Expand Presence in Russia’s Astrakhan

The CEO of Anzali Trade-Industrial Free Zone Organization, Reza Masrour, said based on an agreement signed with Astrakhan, the Russian city will turn into a hub for the Iranian companies to export their products to Eurasian states, a Farsi report by ISNA said.

“According to the agreement signed, 20 hectares of Astrakhan region’s lands will be allocated to the Iranian companies. This will turn the region into a hub for exporting Iranian products to Russia and the neighbouring regions,” he said.

Masrouri also added the companies that start their operation in the region will enjoy some regional advantages including tax exemption for trade exchange with Eurasian states. “These advantages will enable them to have access to the Eurasian markets with the lowest costs.”

The Iranian officials then said the agreements will pave the way for strengthening of economic and trade ties between Iran and Russia particularly in the Caspian Sea area. “It will also facilitate the development of North-South Corridor and export of Iranian products to the Caspian Sea states.”

Speaking on the sidelines of the signing ceremony of the agreement, Masrouri said his organization is focused on introducing the most capable Iranian companies to start their work in the region.

He expressed hope that the region would attract foreign investments and added the Iranian officials are determined to prepare the grounds for attracting leading companies to the region.

Masrouri called for further cooperation in various fields with the Russian sides to facilitate bilateral relations and said at present a large number of companies in Anzali are active in various fields and view Russia as their main export market.

For his part, the manager of Special Economic Zone of Lotus, Sergei Miloshkin, expressed hope that the presence of Iranian companies in the region could raise the level of economic cooperation between Iran and Russia.

So far long steps have been taken to facilitate trade between companies of the two sides, he added.

North Korea Not That Crazy to Negotiate with Trump: Iran

“The US calls on North Korea to sit for talks but Pyongyang is not that much crazy to do so because the US has shown in word and practice that it is not committed to any deal,” President Hassan Rouhani said in an address to the Iranian parliament on Sunday.

Washington’s call for negotiation with North Korea is a “ridiculous story” because when you have failed to remain committed to an agreement you earlier signed, you’d better refrain from talking about a new deal, the Iranian president added.

He also referred to the US presence in the region and said with the arrival of the US, the stability of Iraq and Afghanistan has vanished.  “Now the US is calling for interference in the internal affairs of a country in the region which has stood by other regional nations.”

The Iranian president went on saying Iran will not hesitate to produce, store and if necessary use any weapons in defence of its sovereignty.

Producing missiles does not violate any international law and Iran will press ahead with its missile program more strongly, he added.

“Don’t doubt that any violation of the commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action is against your own interest and the Islamic Republic of Iran will give a crushing response,” he concluded.

UN Approves Nuclear Disarmament Resolution Proposed by Iran

UN Approves Nuclear Disarmament Resolution Proposed by Iran

A draft version of the resolution, entitled “Follow-up to Nuclear Disarmament Obligations Agreed to at the 1995, 2000 and 2010 NPT Review Conferences”, had been earlier submitted by the Iranian mission to the UN’s Disarmament and International Security Committee (First Committee).

Almost all member states of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) voted for the resolution, which was approved despite the obstruction of the United States, the Zionist regime of Israel, the EU member states, and some US allies.

In about one month, the resolution is expected to be sent to the UN General Assembly to be finally approved.

‘Trip to Persia’ Photo Exhibition Opens in Spain

Cultural Attaché’s Office of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Spain, in collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary Arts and the local government of the Extremadura of Spain, has held a photo exhibition entitled ‘Trip to Persia’ which opened on Thursday, October 26, at the Museum of Contemporary Arts in the Spanish city of Badajoz.

In the opening ceremony, Antonio Franco, Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Badajoz, thanked the Iranian Cultural Attaché for organizing such an exhibition. He also highlighted the historical and cultural features of Iran.

A number of Spanish citizens and officials, including the Director General of the Extremadura Culture Department attended the event, according to a Farsi report by IRNA.

Pointing out that Iran has a great civilization that is not known among the Europeans, Franco expressed hope that the exhibition could provide visitors with information on the civilization and historical monuments of Iran.

He also appreciated the efforts made by Manuel Spalio to hold the photo exhibition.

Manuel Spalio, who has provided the photos for this exhibition by making 10 trips to Iran, expressed his pleasure with holding such exhibition, and described Iran as an attractive country with many historical works and hospitable people. He also called on all the audience to visit Iran for sure.

The Islamic Republic of Iran’s Cultural Attaché to Spain, Alireza Esmaili, was the next speaker of the opening ceremony who thanked the Extremadura’s cultural authorities as well as Manuel Spalio for his beautiful photos.

Esmaili also referred to the visit of the Spanish diplomat García de Silva Figueroa to Iran and the court of Shah Abbas of the Safavid dynasty 400 years ago.

“One of the most famous travel books that provides good information about Iran 400 years ago is García de Silva Figueroa’s travelogue, which was immediately translated into French and then was translated from French to Farsi,” noted Esmaili.

He also cited the accounts of the Spanish diplomat of Persepolis, as one of the first and most complete reports on the great ruins of Takht-e Jamshid (Persepolis), saying that it is a full explanation of the historical background of Iran during the Achaemenid period.

Referring to the history of long-standing relations between Iran and Spain, Esmaili expressed hope that holding this exhibition would be a good start for wider cooperation with Extremadura.

Director General of the Extremadura Culture Department, Miriam Garcia, also thanked Iran’s cultural attaché and the photographer Manuel Spalio, saying that for Extremadura, this is a great opportunity to get to know a country like Iran with such a rich historical background.

She also said Extremadura Culture Department is ready for further cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Cultural Attaché’s Office.

Saudi Arabia Seeks to Make the World Afraid of Iran: MP

Saudi FM Adel al-Jubeir recently voiced his country’s support for the US president’s strategy of tightening inspections on Iran’s nuclear program.

Seyyed Qassem Jassemi, a member of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said, “Promoting Iranophobia is the strategy pursued by the Zionist regime and the United States, and now Saudi Arabia is following the same strategy.

Speaking to ICANA in a Farsi interview, he said Saudi Arabia intends to be regarded as the centerpiece of Arab countries in the region and tries to attract attentions by taking such baseless and unwise stances.

Referring to Iran’s compliance with the JCPOA based on the reports of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Jassemi noted that there is no need to carry out stricter inspections.

“Saudi Arabia is just getting closer to the edge of the abyss by showing such behaviours,” he underlined.

The lawmaker emphasized that Jubeir’s remarks on the nuclear deal is an example of meddling in the affairs of the Islamic Republic.

“The Saudi authorities openly interfere in the affairs of the countries, and then they accuse our country of interfering in the regional neighbouring countries and this does not make sense at all.”

He also stressed that Trump’s new strategy against the Islamic Republic of Iran would not succeed and thus, Saudi’s support for this strategy is a flaw.

Iran, Russia to Boost Cooperation in Developing Oil, Gas Fields

Seyyed Saleh Hendi, the head of exploration at National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), says Iran and Russia are holding talks on oil and gas extraction in the Islamic Republic of Iran and shallow portions of Caspian Sea.

Speaking to Sputnik, he went on saying the National Iranian Oil Company has already signed a number of Memorandum of Understandings with Russian companies.

“Right now, we are waiting for the implementation of new projects. The National Iranian Oil Company has signed cooperation agreements with Lukoil, Rosneft, Zarubezhneft, Tatneft, Gazprom, Gazpromneft and we expect more agreements to be signed for cooperation on 10 oil and gas fields.”

Hendi also said the new cooperation will be established in desert fields as well as offshore fields.

He named some of the fields as Mansouri, Abteymour, Kish, Yaran, Maroun, South Pars Oil Layer, Koupal, Aban, Esfandyar, Western Paydar, Dehloran, North Pars, Azar, Changouleh and Cheshmeh-Khosh.

The representative of NIOC also referred to the cooperation between the company and Russia’s Lukoil and said, “We seek to establish cooperation with Lukoil because we are determined to take advantage of the company’s experience as well as capabilities in oil extraction.”

“Technical negotiations on Abteymour and Mansouri fields have been finalized and we have already offered our proposals for cooperation on these fields to Lukoil. Now we have to make an agreement within a 45-day deadline.”

On the proposals of the Russian companies to NIOC to develop Iran’s oil and gas fields, he said, “Unfortunately, Russian companies remain conservative when it comes to offering proposals and the proposals offered by them are too costly with no economic justifications.”

“Iranian oil minister has sent a report to his Russian counterpart on this issue, saying that they need to revise their mechanisms of offering proposals for cooperation to develop oil and gas fields,” he said.

He also noted that Russian firms can have a greater role in Iran’s energy market by establishing a strategic alliance with the companies from Europe, China and Southeast Asia.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin had noted that Russia sees great capacities for establishing further cooperation with Iran in developing oil and gas fields.
