Qatar Seeks to Quintuple Trade Ties with Iran: Minister

The announcement was made by Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade Mohammad Shariatmadari after a meeting with the visiting Qatari Economy Minister Ahmed bin Jassim al Thani.

Shariatmadari said the current level of annual trade between the two countries stood at below $1 billion, emphasizing that Doha had informed Tehran through al Thani about a proposal to increase this to as high as $5 billion per year.

The Iranian minister said Qatar was eager to expand ties with the Islamic Republic in all areas as a result of the current conditions that the Saudi-led blockade against it had created, according to a report by Iran’s IRNA news agency.

Shariatmadari said Qatar possessed adequate infrastructures that could help Iran expand its economic ties with the international community.

He further said Iran and Qatar had been able to expand the level of their trade relations by 120 percent over the past months, expressing hope that this would increase further in the future.

Al Thani, for his part, said Iran had a crucial role over the shipments of goods from other countries including Turkey and Azerbaijan to Qatar since the Saudi-led blockade against Doha became effective.

He also expressed satisfaction over a rise in exports of Iranian products to Qatar particularly food items and construction materials over the past months.

Saudi Arabia and its allies including the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt severed ties with Qatar in early June over charges that it supports terrorism. They have accordingly imposed a land, sea and air blockade against Qatar thus leaving only a sea and air corridor open with Iran.

This created a rise in Iran’s exports – particularly fruits and vegetables – to Qatar over the past months. Iran has also become a corridor for exports of other countries to the blockaded Persian Gulf state.

Iran First VP, Bolivia President Discuss Promotion of Technology Ties

In a meeting with Bolivia’s president on the sidelines of the fourth summit meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Santa Cruz de la Sierra on Friday, Iran’s First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri said the Islamic Republic is ready to share its expertise in technological fields, as in nanotechnology, with Bolivia.

He also stressed the need for procedures for removing the obstacles to banking cooperation between Iran and Bolivia.

For his part, Bolivian President Evo Morales voiced his country’s willingness to take advantage of Iran’s experiences and advances in new technologies.

Pointing to the favorable results Bolivia has obtained from a number of dairy plants constructed by Iranian companies, Morales said the Latin American country is eager to promote cooperation with Iran in various fields.

Representatives of the GECF members have gathered in Bolivia for talks on the international gas market and production policies.

GECF members account for 42 percent of global gas production, 70 percent of global gas reserves, 40 percent of natural gas transmission through pipeline, and 65 percent of the world’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade.

Venezuela Eager for Energy Ties with Iran

President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro called for closer cooperation with Iran by strengthening partnership in the energy industry.

Cooperation between the Iranian and Venezuelan oil and gas companies could pave the way for the enhancement of bilateral ties between Tehran and Caracas, Maduro said in a meeting with Iranian First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri on Friday night (local time).

They met on the sidelines of the fourth summit meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Bolivia’s Santa Cruz de la Sierra.

Elsewhere in the meeting, the Venezuelan president pointed to the US “failed” policies against Iran, saying his country acknowledges the Islamic Republic’s role in regional stability.

For his part, Jahangiri voiced Iran’s readiness to provide Venezuela with experiences in different industries, in which Iran has made great advances in recent years.

He also noted that the US sanctions have helped Iran rely on its own capabilities and boots its domestic production to meet demands.

Iran and Venezuela enjoy a high level of diplomatic ties and are known as allies, as both are opposed to the US policies.

They have stepped up efforts in recent years to expand economic and industrial cooperation.

UN Envoy “Very Impressed” by Post-Quake Performance of Iran Army, Red Crescent

Once the emergency phase was over in the earthquake-hit areas in Western Iran, the Iranian government invited the UN to support the recovery phase.

Lewis and his team travelled to Kermanshah a couple of days ago “to share sympathy and also start initial assessment.”

In a number of posts in his Twitter account, Lewis has noted that he was “very impressed by the level of organization and effectiveness” of the Iranian Army and the Iranian Red Crescent Society’s capacity to deal with medical emergencies in earthquake stricken Sarpol-e Zahab.

He also referred to his visit to a Red Crescent warehouse, saying that the IRCS volunteers were “doing a great job”

Lewis also regretted that “a lot of schools have been damaged”; however, he noted that “plans are already underway by the Iranian people to rebuild them from scratch.”

The deadly earthquake that hit Iran-Iraq border areas on November 12 has so far killed at least 456 people in Iran and wounded thousands of others.

Iran Rejects US Accusation of Breaching UNSC Resolutions on Yemen

In a statement on Saturday, Qassemi blasted the recent White House statement concerning Saudi Arabia’s political gesture and move to open a port and an airport to allow international aid to reach Yemen.

He also dismissed Washington’s accusation that Iran has violated resolutions by the UN Security Council, saying, “The Islamic Republic of Iran spares no effort to echo to all people and circles around the world the Yemeni people’s chants of justice-seeking and of expressing their [being subject to] oppression.”

“We have announced, time and again, and on different occasions that the Islamic Republic of Iran has no military links with Yemen, and that the country’s defence and missile capabilities are completely a domestic issue which is related to that country only,” said the spokesman.

“In a politically motivated and targeted move, and by levelling utterly baseless and false accusations against Iran, the US is trying, as always, to deflect the attention of people and the international community from the inhumane crimes committed by the coalition of aggressors against Yemen, and instead of asking Saudi Arabia to put an end to its bombardment of civilian targets and killing innocent and defenceless people in Yemen, openly says it supports this country in continuing its heinous crimes,” said Qassemi.

“Undoubtedly, the White House statement overtly proves the United States’ complicity in, and responsibility towards Saudi Arabia’s crimes against Yemen,” said the spokesman.

“As the Islamic Republic of Iran has repeatedly announced, it welcomes any initiative that would [help] send humanitarian aid to Yemen and alleviate the sufferings of the people of this country,” he added.

Iran Ready to Help Reconstruct Syria: President Rouhani

Issue of Idlib Must be Resolved Diplomatically: Rouhani to Erdogan

In a Saturday phone conversation with his Syrian counterpart Bashar Assad, Rouhani congratulated him on the latest victories and stressed the need for continuation of war against terrorist groups in the region.

According to a Farsi report by the Iranian president’s official website, Rouhani said it is the Syrians who should decide about their future, not the meddlesome foreign powers.

He went on to say the opposition forces in Syria should take advantage of the current opportunity and play a role in making a promising future for Syria.

He then referred to the trilateral summit meeting in Russia’s Sochi attended by the presidents of Iran, Russia and Turkey and noted that during the summit the leaders called for holding national dialogue with the aim of creating stability and security in Syria.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Rouhani also referred to the latest cheap statements of Saudi Arabia’s crown prince about Iranian officials and said “unfortunately, some immature regional officials repeat the Zionist regime’s statements.”

He then referred to the “cancerous tumor” of Israel in the region saying the Zionist regime has committed heinous crimes over the past 70 years. “We hope certain Arab states’ officials take steps in a right direction and stop adopting policies which negatively affect the whole region.”

For his part, the Syrian president expressed his gratitude to the Islamic Republic of Iran for its contribution to peace in Syria.

Assad said the defeat of ISIS in Syria was the result of the courageous efforts by those who stood by the Syrian nation in its fight against terrorism.

Iran’s Zarif, EP Diplomat Discuss Expansion of Ties

During the Saturday talks, the two sides conferred on ways to deepen ties between the Islamic Republic and Europe. They also talked about the latest developments in the region and the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
Lewandowski once again expressed the full support of the European countries for the JCPOA and called for its full implementation by all parties.
“The JCPOA is the fruit of patience and diplomacy of all negotiating sides,” he said, adding that the results of the nuclear deal must be tangible.
For his part, the Iranian foreign minister referred to the European Union as a reliable partner for Iran and underlined the need for all signatories to fully implement the deal.
Iran should be able to reap the full benefits of the nuclear deal, Zarif said, calling for the removal of restrictions on banking ties with Tehran.
Elsewhere in the meeting, the Iranian top diplomat also replied to questions set forth by members of the European delegation about the latest regional developments.

Iran to Officially Start “Tabriz 2018” Tourism Event in Nowruz

According to Ali Asghar Mounesan, the head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHTO), says Tabriz 2018 will start at the beginning of January 2018, but the official opening ceremony of the event will be held in the presence of Iranian president and top national and international officials during Nowruz in late March 2018.

Attending the 12th meeting of provincial headquarter for magnificent event of Tabriz 2018, Mounesan said, “We have lost most of our time to make the arrangements for Tabriz 2018. Now, we have to make up for the missed time. We have to change our approach to tourism and use it as an international opportunity to introduce the province as well as Iran’s tourist attractions to the world,” he noted.

He stressed that construction projects are not part of Tabriz 2018 because the projects need to be launched by other governmental organizations.

“We hope we will manage to introduce Tabriz as the top tourist destination in our country to the outside world,” he said, adding that travel agencies can play a key role during Tabriz 2018 event.

“We don’t have any problem with increasing the number of flights to Tabriz during the event,” he concluded.

The Iranian city of Tabriz in East Azarbaijan Province has been selected by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) as the 2018 capital of Islamic Tourism, and the entire Iran is now getting prepared to host the highest number of tourists through the project Tabriz 2018.

Tabriz hosts a number of famed religious sites, including Grand Mosque and Tabriz Citadel, as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Tabriz Bazaar. It has been declared a World Craft City by the World Craft Council, which, along with Isfahan, makes it one of Iran’s only two cities to boast the title.

East Azarbaijan enjoys more than 30 national intangible heritage inscriptions, 20 specialized and general museums, five inscribed natural sites and tens of other historical places as well as unique handicrafts that can draw a great number of domestic and foreign tourists

Elsewhere in his statements, Mounesan touched on the significant role of tourism in the country’s development and added, “Despite our numerous historical attractions, we have not paid much attention to tourism.”

According to a Farsi report by the Iranian government’s official website, Mounesan added, “At present, 4,900,000 tourists visit Iran annually with religious tourists accounting for the majority of them.”

However, he added, the figure is not acceptable for Iran as a country with a high capacity for attracting tourists.

He went on to say creating jobs in the tourism sector is possible in short term and with a low budget.

“US Revives Beirut Bombing Lawsuit to Tarnish Iran’s Image”

US Revives Beirut Bombing Lawsuit to Tarnish Iran’s Image

Mohammad-Javad Jamali Nobandegani, a member of Iran’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said the US has revived part of a lawsuit against Iran over a 1983 bomb attack in Lebanon with the aim of creating a negative impression against the Islamic Republic and inflicting an economic blow to the country.

In a Farsi interview with ICANA, Jamali Nobandegani also said the federal appeals court of New York held its session at a time when the US government is making concerted efforts to put pressure on Iran through economic leverage.

He went on to say that imposing new sanctions and raising an old-time case against Iran are among the main measures by the US to put Iranians under pressure.

The federal appeals court in New York on Tuesday revived part of a $1.68 billion lawsuit against Iran’s central bank by families of soldiers killed in the 1983 bombing of the US Marine Corps barracks in Lebanon.

The US claims Iran had been involved in the deadly bombing, but Tehran has categorically denied such allegations over the past decades.

Iran Says Trump’s Oil Embargo Violates Nuclear Deal

Iran Says Trump’s Oil Embargo Violates Nuclear Deal

Trump issued a statement last Saturday, saying because there was enough supply of oil from other countries, it was possible to limit the purchase of oil and its derivatives from Iran.

In reaction to the remarks, Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Iran’s Parliament, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, said by such statements, the US once again violates the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

According to a Farsi report by Alef news website on Saturday, he went on to say it seems Trump views himself as the chief of the global village. “This comes as he is just the president of the US and a hated one.”

The Iranian lawmaker said throughout the US history, there has been no president weaker than Trump.

“Trump is not in a position to decide about the share of countries in the international oil market. Iran is a member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and will defend its rights within the organization,” he noted.

Boroujerdi also pointed out Trump is not entitled to meddle in such issues and his declaration lacks legal credibility.

In his declaration, Trump said the international oil market would remain normal by cutting purchases from Iran.

“I determined that there is a sufficient amount of oil and oil products from countries other than Iran, and this allows a significant reduction in the volume of oil and petroleum products that are purchased from Iran,” Trump said in a November 17 memorandum sent to the US finance and energy ministers.

According to Iranian Oil Minister, Bijan Namdar Zanganeh, Iran is supplying up to 2.5 million barrels of oil per day to the world market and cutting this amount will definitely affect the market.

“Mr. Trump talks too much,” Zanganeh said, responding to Trump’s remarks in the document extending an embargo on the supply of oil from Iran, first introduced in 2012.

23,000 Children Die in Yemen Due to Preventable Causes: UNICEF

“In 2016, 23,000 newborns died due to preventable causes,” the UNICEF said in a post in its Twitter account, quoting its Friday report on the latest situation of Yemen.

Meanwhile, the UNICEF says that by March 2017, at least 1,546 children were killed and 2,450 others maimed in Yemen under the airstrikes of the Saudi-led coalition.

23,000 Children Die in Yemen Due to Preventable Causes: UNICEFSince March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been launching airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

The coalition’s airstrikes on the innocent people of Yemen has led to the epidemic of various diseases like cholera in the impoverished state.

In its Friday report, the UNICEF further elaborated on its measures to help the children in the war-torn country, saying, “Today, Yemen launches 2017-2021 Maternal Newborn Strategy which is supported by UNICEF, UNFPA, and WHO.”

“When implemented, care units for sick newborns will be ready to help them survive and live to their full potential,” it added.
