Business Ties with Tehran Very Important to Yerevan: PM

In a Tuesday meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Yerevan, Karapetyan said his country is interested in expansion of cooperation with Tehran in the field of energy and other economic arenas including the Iranian and Armenian free trade zones.

He hailed the growing trend of imports and exports between the two countries, and said his country is prepared to help Iranian companies take advantage of the Eurasian Union’s benefits through Armenia.

“We are also ready to implement transit plans,” he added.

Zarif, for his part, thanked the Armenian officials for extending their condolences over the recent deadly earthquake in Iran.

He underlined the need for further expansion of business ties between the two sides, and said free trade zones can provide the opportunity for promotion of mutual cooperation.

Zarif also pointed to the economic delegation accompanying him in the visit, and said, “The companies attending the Business Forum are the best ones and are prepared to further enhance their bilateral economic and business collaborations with their Armenian counterparts.”

The Iranian top diplomat also stressed the need for removing dirt from Aras River, which is shared by the two neighbouring states.

On cleaning Aras River, the Armenian PM said the working group responsible for tackling the pollution of Aras River has taken measures in this regard, and its report will be presented during the Joint Commission’s meeting.

Iranian Painter Uses Nails to Create Artwork on Violence against Children

Hosseinpour had invited his fans and followers to bring him nails so that he would use them to draw a painting to mark November 20, the Universal Children’s Day.

By hammering the nails provided by the audiences in the wall, he created the lines of his painting. Under each nail, the name of the person who had provided it was also written by Hosseinpour.

His painting was later sold to raise funds for the quake-hit people of Kermanshah Province.

In 2000, the Women’s World Summit Foundation (WWSF), a non-governmental organization, launched the World Day for Prevention of Child Abuse on November 19. WWSF, along with an international coalition of advocacy organizations for women and children’s issues, mobilized governments and societies to take action and prevent child abuse. In 2001, APA, through its International Office, joined the coalition and also marked the day, November 19, as the World Day for the Prevention of Child Abuse.

Earlier, during a charity concert by Iranian traditional singer Shahram Nazeri and Kamkars ensemble to raise funds for the quake-stricken people, Hosseinpour had also created a large drawing (2 metres by 2.5 metres), of the people in the region, on stage in an hour and a half.

The work was sold at the auction for $6,250. All the proceeds were dedicated to the people in western Iran.

Saudi Arabia Bullying Small Mideast Countries: Qatar FM

Qatar-Saudi Arabia

Qatari FM and Deputy Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani says Riyadh is “bullying” its neighbours and risking new conflict amid an ongoing diplomatic crisis.

The minister repeated allegations made by Lebanese politicians that Saad Hariri’s shock resignation as Prime Minister was forced during his time in Riyadh, where some claimed he was kept under “house arrest” before making the announcement.

“Lebanon is a fragile country, and pressuring the Prime Minister to resign and leave a vacuum in a country – which is very sensitive for everybody – is a counter-productive policy,” al-Thani said at a round table discussion at a conference in London.

“This is a big country bullying a small country – we have seen it in Qatar and now we are seeing it repeated in Lebanon,” he was quoted as saying by The Independent.

“Thanks to God and all the allies that contained the situation before it evolved and got worse … If it was not contained from the beginning we would have a horrific impact.”

Hariri left Saudi Arabia following intervention by Egypt and France, returning to Lebanon last week and postponing his resignation at the request of President Michel Aoun while a “dialogue” takes place.

Al-Thani’s comments came amid the continuing Qatar diplomatic crisis, which saw countries led by Saudi Arabia sever relations in June and accuse the government of supporting terrorism and violating cooperation agreements.

The dispute has seen ambassadors withdrawn, diplomats evacuated, Qatari broadcaster al-Jazeera banned and Qatar’s only land border, air and see routes blockaded in a move that sparked international alarm.

Iran Leader Urges Navy to Maintain Presence in High Seas

leader

Speaking in a meeting with the commanders and officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Naval Forces on Tuesday, the Leader hailed the significance of naval forces, saying the Navy is in the frontline of defending the country.

“The Iranian naval forces deal with such important regions like Makran, Oman Sea, and high seas,” said the Commander-in Chief of the Armed Forces, Ayatollah Khamenei, urging that the presence of Iran’s naval forces in high seas should continue like before.

He further highlighted the necessity of enhancing the capabilities of the Navy in terms of equipment, power, and remedying the deficiencies.

“A good growth and movement has been started in the Navy and today, the Iranian naval forces are more advanced and capable than 20 years ago,” the Leader said.

However, he added, such level of progress is not satisfactory, and further development of capabilities should be pursued in all sectors.

In recent years, Iran’s naval forces have increased their presence in high seas to secure naval routes and protect merchant vessels and oil tankers against pirates.

Earlier this month, Navy Commander Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi announced the country will soon sail warships into the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico.

Admiral Khanzadi said the Iranian naval forces would “wave the flag of our country” right on the US’s doorstep.

The top story in all Iranian newspapers was the continued efforts to help the quake-hit people. Several papers particularly highlighted the visit of First Vice-President Es’haq Jahangiri to Kermanshah Province and his remarks after the visit.

The Prosecutor General’s response to ex-president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s claims and allegations also received great coverage.

A number of papers also covered the controversial defeat of Iranian wrestler Alireza Karimi in a match against his Russian rival. He reportedly lost the match intentionally to evade a later match against an Israeli wrestler.

Iran Navy Attending Massive Maritime Drills in Bangladesh

The Iranian naval fleet, comprising Sablan destroyer and Bandar Abbas logistic-combat warship, is participating in the international maritime exercise in Bangladesh after sailing more than 3,800 nautical miles to reach the South Asian country.

Bangladeshi President Abdul Hamid inaugurated the exercise at the Hotel Royal Tulip, adjacent Inani Beach at Cox’s Bazar, on Monday, according to local media.

Ships, naval chiefs, high ups and maritime experts from 32 countries, including 23 member countries and nine observers from the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS), are taking part in the event, said a press release by the Bangladesh Navy.

In recent years, Iran’s naval forces have increased their presence in high seas to secure naval routes and protect merchant vessels and oil tankers against pirates.

In line with international efforts to combat piracy, the Iranian Navy has also been conducting anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden to safeguard the vessels involved in maritime trade, especially the ships and oil tankers owned or leased by Iran.

IRGC Providing Shelter for All Quake-Hit People

IRGC Providing Shelter for All Quake-Hit People

Outlining the relief operations underway in Kermanshah Province, Head of IRGC Public Relations, Brigadier General Ramezan Sharif, said the IRGC will remain in the quake-hit areas until all the affected people are sheltered.

According to a Farsi report by Fars News Agency, he said at present, the IRGC is making 100 container houses (connex) for the people per day but the number will reach 400 in the coming days.

“Meanwhile, each day 150 container houses are transported from Tehran to the western regions.”

“Based on its extensive experiences gained during Bam devastating earthquake over ten years ago, the IRGC has developed an agenda to cope with natural plights across the country. We reformed our agenda after Varazaqan earthquake in northwestern Iran and now we are conducting our relief operations in Kermanshah with a clear roadmap,” he noted.

Sharif also said at present the IRGC is going ahead with a three-stage agenda in the quake-hit areas and added at the first stage of the operation, the armed forces of IRGC rushed to the quake-hit areas at the early hours of the quake and began to transfer the wounded to hospitals.

“During the second phase, the IRGC established equipped field hospitals in the areas which offer medical services to the affected people,” he added.

Sharif went on to say the IRGC is now involved in reopening the roads to the quake-hit areas by its latest technologies.

He referred to the visit of IRGC’s Chief Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari to Kermanshah province and said the top commander ordered all IRGC units to provide Kermanshah and 6 neighbouring provinces with the required tents and foods.

Sharif said based on the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Constitution, accommodating the quake-hit people is upon the government.

Following Varazaqan quake, the IRGC established good cooperation with the government to provide temporary shelter for the quake-hit people and the two sides managed to build at least 7,000 houses and 12,000 shelters for live-stocks and poultry.

“Following Kermanshah province’s earthquake, the IRGC has made a deal with Housing Foundation of the Islamic Republic of Iran to build houses for the quake-hit people of the region,” he noted.

He referred to the public trust in the managing capabilities of the IRGC and said following the order of the Islamic Revolution Leader, “we are doing whatever in our power to provide shelters for the quake-hit people.”

He expressed hope the accommodation process of the quake-hit people of Kermanshah would come to an end soon and added the IRGC sees itself committed to remain in the areas till the sheltering of the people is accomplished.

Israeli Ex-DM “Proud” of Killing Highest Number of Palestinians

Moshe Ya'alon

Ya’alon says he tops the list among all Israeli government officials in killings of Palestinians, a report by the Middle East Monitor said.

Speaking in a meeting held in Herzliya over the weekend, he also characterized Palestinians and Arabs as “terrorists”.

Former Israeli Prime Minister and Defence Minister Ehud Barak had also boasted about the large number of Palestinians he had killed, according to Safa News.

Between 2008 and 2014, Barack and Ya’alon led three major military offensives against Palestinians in Gaza. Some 4,000 Palestinians were killed by the Israeli occupation forces and over 20,000 were wounded.

Known for his macabre statements, Ya’alon spoke to Haaretz newspaper back in August 2002 where he referred to Palestinians as harboring “cancer-like attributes.” He went on to say that “there are all kinds of solutions to cancer. Some say it’s necessary to amputate organs but at the moment I am applying chemotherapy.”

The remarks came as Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is reportedly engaged in secret negotiations with the Israeli regime to normalize Riyadh’s ties with Tel Aviv.

Now the question is, will Bin Salman, who seems to be trying to restore glory to Arab nations and be the elder brother of Arab world, continue his policy of friendship with Israel?
