Qashqai People; Original Nomadic Pastoralists of Iran

Qashqai people, Iran

The following photo collection retrieved from Mehr News Agency shows the innocent and original faces of Qashqai tribe’s Turkic peoples; who are settled in Azhdar Khowsh village in Bushkan Rural District of Iran’s southern Bushehr Province.

The unique faces of tribal women, men and children, who always pass through the mountains and plains, have different expressions. From the small lines on a woman’s face to the bristling of her hair, each characteristic narrates the story of the days of nomadic life.

More than ten families of Qashqai tribes pass through rough roads to erect their tents around the mountains of the region and near the plains of Azhdar Khowsh area.

The traditional nomadic Qashqai people travel with their flocks twice a year. They travel roughly 480 km to the summer highland pastures in north of Shiraz; and 300 miles south to the winter pastures on lower, warmer lands near the Persian Gulf.

They live in black tents that are made of goat wool. Nomadic women are responsible for taking care of children and preparing family meals along with milking of goats and carpet and Kilim weaving. These women wear traditional clothes and their only make-up is Kohl which is an ancient eye cosmetic. The tribal men are shepherds and devote much of the day to breeding and grazing animals.

In his first meeting on Tuesday, Zarif held talks with Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dačić.

He will also participate in a joint trade summit in presence of businessmen and representatives of the private and public sectors of the two countries.

The Iranian foreign minister will leave Serbia for Bulgaria on Tuesday afternoon.

Iran Calls for Muslims’ Serious Action against US Embassy Relocation

Bahram Qassemi

Speaking in his weekly press conference on Monday, Qassemi pointed to Donald Trump’s decision to relocate the US embassy to Jerusalem al-Quds, and described it as a “very wrong policy” for which Washington will pay the price in the future.

“With the mindlessness which we see in American decisions, there is need for serious action in the Islamic world,” he urged.

Qassemi also referred to the UN Security Council’s resolution on a 30-day ceasefire in Syria, and expressed the hope that calm would return to the Syrian capital and its Eastern Ghouta suburbs which are the scene of fierce government clashes with foreign-backed terrorists.

He said Tehran wants a ceasefire across Syria so that humanitarian aid could reach civilians.

The spokesman also commented on Turkey’s ongoing military operation in Syria’s Afrin region, saying Iranian, Turkish, and Russian foreign ministers and presidents would be meeting in May to discuss the situation in the Arab country.

“These negotiations are instrumental in resolving differences, and will contribute to efforts aimed at restoring calm and fighting terrorism in Syria,” he said.

Iran’s Withdrawal from Nuclear Deal

Qassemi pointed to recent comments made by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Seyyed Abbas Araqchi about the possibility of the country’s withdrawal from the JCPOA and said Tehran had a lot to gain from the deal.

“But we were faced with the US government’s violations and act of sabotage aimed at preventing us from fully reaping its (JCPOA’s) benefits,” he said, as reported by Tasnim.

The spokesman further referred to conditions set by US President Donald Trump for the extension of waivers on anti-Tehran sanctions and his comments against Iran, saying Washington has a lot of experience in playing blame games and leveling accusations against the Islamic Republic.

“Such futile and worthless comments should not be taken seriously…,” Qassemi stressed.

Anti-Iran Resolution at UN Drafted by UK

Qassemi also pointed to a British resolution against Iran over the Yemen war, which is to be put into a vote at the United Nations Security Council on Monday, and said it would be helping “invaders and aggravate the invasion.”

“We do not send arms to Yemen. Such blame games are being waged by those who are fanning [the flames of] war and bloodshed in Yemen,” he said, according to a report by Press TV.

The spokesman further said, “What is happening in Yemen is the result of arms exports by the United Kingdom and the United States to Saudi Arabia.”

Iran, he said, was observing “dishonest behaviour” on the part of the British government, which is trying to use the international mechanism to support the invader despite its claims of seeking to end the Saudi war.

At Least Five Killed after Heavy Storms Hit Central US

As well as the tornado that flattened homes, the storms also brought gale force winds and widespread flooding from the Upper Midwest to Appalachia.

The system that stretched from Texas to the Canadian Maritime provinces had prompted several emergency declarations even before the dangerous storms arrived.

In southwestern Michigan, the body of a 48-year-old man was found floating in floodwaters Sunday in Kalamazoo, city Public Safety official David Thomas said. Police were withholding the release of his name until notifying relatives, The Independent reported.

Thomas said the death didn’t appear suspicious but the cause wasn’t known. An autopsy was planned as early as Monday. Kalamazoo has hard hit by flooding from last week’s heavy rains and melting snow.

In Kentucky, authorities said three people died. Two bodies were recovered from submerged vehicles in separate incidents Saturday.

Authorities said Ms Combs’ husband was outside putting up plastic to keep rain out of the home when he was blown into the basement area. He sustained minor injuries.

The fifth death was in northeast Arkansas, where an 83-year-old man was killed after high winds toppled a trailer home. Clay County Sheriff Terry Miller told KAIT-TV that Albert Foster died Saturday night after the home was blown into a pond.

About 50 miles (80 kilometers) away, the National Weather Service said the roof was blown off a hotel in Osceola, about 160 miles north of Memphis, Tennessee.

In Middle Tennessee, the National Weather Service on Sunday confirmed an EF-2 tornado with maximum winds of 120 mph (193 kph) hit Clarksville on Saturday.

A resolution adopted by the UN Security Council on a 30-day ceasefire in Syria was the top story in almost all newspapers today. Some papers described the truce as a ‘nominal’ one, and some blasted the terrorists’ shell attacks on Damascus in spite of the ceasefire.

Also a top story was the remarks made by Judiciary Spokesman Gholam-Hossein Mohseni Ejei about various topics, particularly the possible prosecution of former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad over his offences.

Several papers also covered the comments made by Iranian First Vice-President Es’haq Jahangiri about the need for development of Makran Coasts in southeastern Iran, and its impact on the improvement of employment and security in the region and the entire country.

The opening ceremony of the festival was held in Vahdat Hall in central Tehran with a number of high-ranking Iranian officials attending the event.

The festival aims to encourage designers to promote Islamic and Iranian ideas in clothing throughout the country.

It is part of Fajr festivals that are annually held in Iran commemorating the victory anniversary of the Islamic Revolution and the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran in 1979.

This year, the folk costume section of the Fajr Fashion and Clothing Festival will be held for the second year running in the capital and across the country.

Here are the photos of the event retrieved from IRNA:

Iranian Military, Police Officials in Pakistan for Talks

Iran’s Army Air Force Commander Brigadier General Hassan Shahsafi and the country’s Anti-Narcotics Police Chief Brigadier General Mohammad Masoud Zahedian both left Iran on Monday, February 26, for the Pakistani capital.

The commander of the Army Air Force is going to discuss the strengthening of military cooperation with the neighbouring country, especially in the fields related to Air Force education.

General Shahsafi also plans to visit the activities of Pakistan’s Army Air Force, a Farsi report by IRIB News Agency said.

Heading a delegation, General Zahedian also departed for Islamabad to hold a bilateral meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Major General Musarrat Nawaz Malik.

Zahedian’s visit is made on the basis of a joint meeting of anti-narcotics chiefs of the two countries in Tehran back in October and within the framework of an agreement signed at that time.

General Zahedian is also scheduled to meet with the head of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Pakistan and the agents of foreign countries residing in Pakistan.

Iran and Pakistan enjoy good cooperation in fighting illegal drugs and narcotics, smuggling, and fighting outlaws at the borderlines.

According to Pakistani officials, planting opium poppy has been stopped since 2001 in the country, but the narcotic hashish is imported from Afghanistan to Pakistan.

Iran’s Rouhani Congratulates South Africa’s New President

In a letter to his South African new counterpart, President Rouhani expressed the hope relations between Tehran and Pretoria would develop at bilateral and international levels more than ever.

“I hope under your presidency, the relations between the two countries would begin to deepen further and we would expand our ties in all fields of mutual interests,” a Farsi report by president’s official website said on Sunday.

He then wished the best for the government and nation of South Africa.

African National Congress (ANC) leader Ramaphosa sworn in as South Africa’s new president on February 15, following his predecessor Jacob Zuma’s departure after a long power struggle.

Ramaphosa, 65, was formerly Zuma’s deputy president. He was elected leader of the ruling ANC in December, narrowly defeating Zuma’s chosen candidate, his ex-wife Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.
