Afghanistan’s Stability Vital for Regional Development: Iran

In a meeting with his Afghan counterpart Ashraf Ghani on the sidelines of a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in the Chinese port city of Qingdao on Saturday, Rouhani underlined that Iran will not withhold any effort to contribute to restoring permanent peace to and fighting terrorism in Afghanistan.

“Iran has always stood by the nation of Afghanistan over the past four decades and as two neighbouring and brotherly states, the two sides have significant cultural, security and trade commonalities,” he was quoted as saying in a report by the President’s Website.

He then expressed hope for signing a comprehensive agreement for cooperation between Iran and Afghanistan in the near future and said Iran is interested in expanding its ties with neighbouring states particularly Afghanistan and making joint investments in various development projects like transit infrastructures.

“The big project of Chabahar port in Iran which is underway with the participation of Iran, India and Afghanistan is a long stride in rebuilding transit roads of the region,” he said.

The Iranian president then described the two governments’ support for continuous economic development and the private sector as highly necessary and said Khaf-Heart Railway and other similar development projects in the region should be pressed ahead with political and economic coordination.

He then referred to the global outrage over the US withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal and said the illegitimate move by the US was not a mere pullout of a multi-national agreement but a stark violation of the UN Security Council’s resolution.

Rouhani finally called for further efforts to fight against drug trafficking and said Iran and Afghanistan as well as other regional states should fight hand in hand against the problem which is a serious threat to the whole region.

Iran Welcomes Ceasefire between Taliban, Afghan Government

In a Saturday statement, Qassemi said the Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes the Afghan government’s decision to accept a ceasefire with the Taliban militants and views it as a positive step to achieve bigger agreements and restore permanent stability and security to Afghanistan.

The spokesman also expressed Iran’s preparedness to offer all types of contributions to promote peace in the neighbouring Afghanistan under the guidance and leadership of the country’s government.

The Afghan government and the militant group agreed to the truce two days after it was announced by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.

The ceasefire will begin either next Friday or Saturday, as Eid al-Fitr falls on one of these days. The government had said the ceasefire would last for a week, and would exclude ISIS and other terror outfits.

But the Taliban say they will stop fighting for three days adding that they will defend themselves, if attacked. They’ve also pledged to continue their operations against foreign forces.

The Taliban have been fighting the Afghan government, since their regime was ousted 17 years ago.

Iranian Experts Make Heart Valves for Treatment of Acute Defects

Dr Bayanolhaq, the initiator of the project, says the heart valves and cardiovascular products have been manufactured by the company inside Iran.

According to a report by ISNA, the heart valves made in this company, such as bone tissue, are made using the donated body organs which undergo special processes.

“The final product should be kept at a low temperature to be transplanted according to the specific size of the target valve,” noted the Iranian scientist.

Stressing that heart valves must be transferred at a temperature of minus 40 degrees, he said the transportation of this product should be carried out using special boxes containing dry ice or liquid nitrogen, which keep the temperature so low that the tissues of the heart valves are not damaged.

According to him, these types of valves can be used to treat Aortic Stenosis or Atresia”, Hypoplastic Left Heart, and Pulmonary Atresia.

Bayanolhaq also noted that production of skin is another research achievement of the company.

That was also produced from the donated skins, he said, pointing out that the antigens of the donated skins are removed, but the intercellular matrix and the framework are maintained.

Putin Says Russia Supports Iran’s Full SCO Membership

“Through the years, Iran has strongly contributed to the SCO’s efforts as an observer member and Russia’s position is to support Tehran’s full membership in the organization,” Putin said on a Saturday.

He made the remarks in a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani on the eve of the 18th meeting of the heads of state and government of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation scheduled to be held in China’s coastal city of Qingdao on Saturday and Sunday.

Iran has held observer status in the security bloc since 2005, along with Afghanistan, Belarus and Mongolia, and has been declaring its willingness to become a full-fledged member for years.

The security bloc granted membership status to India and Pakistan last year, in its first expansion in sixteen years after its 2001 creation by China, Russia and four ex-Soviet Central Asian republics of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

Bright Prospects for Economic Cooperation
Putin said Moscow will keep up deepening cooperation with Tehran in various fields, including energy and defence.

“There are good prospects for mutual cooperation in all sectors, including economic ones,” he said.

On JCPOA, the Russian president censured the US withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear accord as “illegal”, stressing Russia will continue to work with other parties to the multi-party accord to support JCPOA.

Putin also hailed Tehran-Moscow cooperation to promote stability in the region, saying the two countries will continue to work towards settlement of the Syria conflict.

Fruitful Anti-Terror Collaboration
Rouhani, for his part, said Tehran attaches great importance to its cooperation with Russia to improve security in the region.

“Iran-Russia cooperation against ISIS and other terrorist groups has proven effective and fruitful and will bee maintained,” he said.

The Iranian president said there are vast capacities for cooperation between Tehran and Moscow, adding Iran welcomes Russian firms and investors willing to enter its markets.

On JCPOA, Rouhani hailed Russia’s great role in keeping the deal in place, expressing hope its efforts to push other sides of the nuclear deal to fulfill their commitments will bear fruits.

VP Says Iran Can’t Wait Forever for Confirmation of JCPOA

Massoumeh Ebtekar, vice president for women’s affairs, said Tehran wanted the other signatories of the 2015 dead, including European powers, Russia and China, to confirm the deal “as soon as possible because it’s part of our national right and Iran cannot wait forever.”

Ebtekar called on the EU to “take a very strong stance against any unilateral action that could impede peace and security processes, and could undermine the trust that has been created between countries to this pledge.”

“We have been a faithful player to this commitment, we’ve done our best, we’ve shown our good intentions. We are facing a very volatile region,” she told AFP.

Ebtekar was speaking in Lithuania’s capital Vilnius ahead of the Women Political Leaders Global Forum.

She stressed that the deal was “important to preserve because it is not only a nuclear but also a non-proliferation deal.”

The deal, also known as the JCPOA, is hanging in the balance after US President Donald Trump quit the agreement in May and reimposed US sanctions.

The European signatories are scrambling to find ways to preserve the agreement and protect their businesses from new American sanctions.

The Iranian vice president described the deal as very important for peace and security, “not only for the Middle East but also the broader region and at global level.”

Ebtekar said Tehran “will be ready for further uranium enrichments, these are preparations which are underway, all within the framework of JCPOA.”

On Wednesday, Iran’s Ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Reza Najafi said that Tehran was in “preparatory works” to restart nuclear activities if the deal collapses.

Najafi said the Iran nuclear deal was a multilateral agreement that could not be scrapped unilaterally by one signatory.

“The US unlawful withdrawal constitutes a complete disregard for international law and the UN Charter, and encourages intransigence and illegality,” he said.

Najafi made the remarks after the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Ali Akbar Salehi, said the country had begun work to prepare the infrastructure for building advanced centrifuges at its Natanz enrichment facility within the terms of the nuclear deal.

Some 200 Iranian Antiquities to Be Exhibited in Netherlands

“Under a memorandum of understanding signed between the National Museum of Iran and the Drents Museum in the Netherlands, 196 [historical] items from 70 ancient sites in the country have been transferred to the Drents Museum to be showcased at an exhibition for five months,” said Nokandeh.

According to a report by ISNA, he said the exhibit dubbed “Iran: The Cradle of Civilization” will be held in the city of Assen and run from June, 16 to November 18, 2018.

He said the selected antiquities were transferred to the Drents Museum as scheduled on June 7, 2018 amid special security measures by both countries.

Some 200 Iranian Antiquities to Be Exhibited in Netherlands“Experts from both museums tried to handpick a proper collection of diverse items from different eras” that would best represent the Iranian culture and civilization, he noted.

Nokandeh underlined that the oldest antiquity of that collection dates back 200,000 years.

The Drents Museums is located in the city of Assen in north of the Netherlands and is 160 years old. Antique items belonging to various epochs, from prehistoric to contemporary, are on display at the museum.

Fresh Rainfall Revives Iran’s Moribund Lake Urmia

A rise in precipitation levels in the drainage basin of Lake Urmia in northwestern Iran in recent months has revived the lake by increasing water levels in it.

The lake began to dry up in the mid-1990s, and, according to statistics, around 80% of its surface area vanished by 2015.

What follows are IRNA’s photos of the revived lake:

“Europe Must Make Up for Losses US Inflicted on Iran Deal”

Europe Must Make Up for Losses US Inflicted on Iran Deal

Behrouz Nemati, a spokesperson for the Parliament’s Presiding Board, underscored that if Europe does not make up for the losses, Iranian officials unanimously agree that Tehran should resume its peaceful nuclear activities.

Referring to the remarks made by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei regarding the Iran nuclear deal, the legislator said MPs have drawn up a plan to act on the JCPOA.

“Parliament has drafted a motion to enforce the conditions set by the Leader concerning the JCPOA, so that the MPs can put it on the agenda if the government fails to push things forward when it comes to the JCPOA, or if the other signatories renege on their obligations,” said Nemati, according to a report by the Entekhab news website.

He also warned about a possible termination of the JCPOA.

“The Americans and Europeans should know that if the JCPOA is to be scrapped, we will resume our nuclear work,” he said.

Iranian Nano-Firms Seeking Market Share in East Asia

Three Iranian firms were among the exhibitors at the Aquatech China 2018 where they put on display their latest products and services in a bid to expand their sphere of activities in East Asia.

One of the three is a company producing water purification nano-systems.

Among the achievements of the company is the development of apparatuses producing nano-powder and nano-coloidal metal using the “electric explosion” method, ISNA reported.

The company has also managed to produce nano-emulsion and homogenization machines, which has been praised by different industries, including those dealing with refining water and treating waste, food and pasteurization, pharmaceuticals, paint and polymer, as well the oil and petrochemical industry.

Another Iranian firm taking part in the exhibition was one which had managed to launch the production line for nano-ceramic layers. The layers are designed and developed to be used at different temperatures and under different pressure levels. They are widely used in water treatment. Dairy products companies, refineries and other industries currently use this technology.

The third Iranian firm attending the exhibit has managed to design and develop state-of-the-art industrial plasma systems by drawing on the expertise of academic and industrial experts in the field of water, waste, air and applicable plasma.

The Aquatech China 2018 held in Shanghai on May 31-June 2 brought together companies active in the domain of water, which showcased their products and services at the event.
