7-Year-Old Genius Builds His Own Toys

The family of this little boy holds their birthday parties and New Year celebrations in their wood art workshop. They have raised Parsa in a way that he is widely seen as a genius even at the age of seven.

Here is IRNA’s interview with this young Iranian genius and his father:

Q: Would you please introduce yourself?

Parsa: My name is Parsa Qazi and I like to continue my father’s job. I work at a woodturning workshop.

Q: How old are you?

Parsa: I’m seven years old. Born in 2011.

Q: How long have you been busy with woodturning?

Parsa: I started working since I was 4, so (showing with his fingers) it’s 3 years.

Q: The masters of woodturning have told me that your works are really excellent, and now I saw how professional you are. What do you make?

Parsa: By woodturning, you can make everything. Home stuff and many other things.

Q: I’ve heard you teach students at school. How old are your trainees?

Parsa: 7 years old and more.

Q: Aren’t you afraid when your trainees are older than you?

Parsa: I was a bit stressful at first, but now I am OK. I’m a little boy now; everyone thinks this is not an appropriate job for me, but I’m sure it would be the right job for me when I grow up. Anyone who sees me tasks how this little child can do woodturning.

Have you ever built something you liked to buy?

Parsa: Yes. I like gavels. I have a bottle using which I drink milk in the mornings. I like it so much; therefore, I made a similar one using wood. I build whatever I like.

  1. Dear Mr Qazi! How old are you and how long have you been doing this?

Parsa’s Father: I was born in 1979 and have a master’s degree in restoration of monuments and art works. I have been teaching at the workshops and universities for 22 years. I have invented a new style of woodcarving and now I’m sculpturing.

Q: How do you assess the quality of the Parsa’s works?

Parsa’s Father: Technically, he has reached a level that I can count on him as a skilled professional man in the workshop.

Q: Working with a child has its own problems, and when a child is both theoretically and practically skilled in a field, for sure you have had a special plan. How did you achieve such a great success?

Parsa’s Father: Yes. I also have the experience of working with young children, including the deaf and dumb. It is a must to read children’s psychology books to do this job. I have worked with a lot of children, but as soon as the training went through the difficult stages, they stopped and could not continue anymore. However, Parsa had an extraordinary ability to learn. He did not leave me with any restrictions in education, and exactly as an adult I worked with him and taught him until he reached master’s level.

Iran Improves Stevia as Best Alternative to Artificial Sweeteners

Iran Improves Stevia as Best Alternative to Artificial Sweeteners

Dr Foad Moradi, a faculty member at the Agricultural Biotechnology Research Institute of Iran, said the consumption of sugar per person is about 18.5 kg each year in the world, while the sugar consumption in Iran is about 29 kg.

Such amount of sugar consumption is the main cause of the spread of diabetes in the country, he added.

“The most effective way to reduce the use of sugar is to replace it with natural sweeteners, such as Stevioside, which are extracted with the development of biotechnology and nanotechnology techniques in a completely economical way.”

According to the researcher, Stevia is an indigenous South American plant that has attracted the attentions in the world, and has recently been cultivated in parts of Iran.

Moradi said the cause of this sweetness is the existence of “Stevioside” and “Rebaudioside” in Stevia leaves, which is a suitable replacement for refined sugars.

“This sweetener is 300 to 350 times sweeter than sugar without any caloric intake. This natural sweetener does not have any of the adverse effects of the using artificial sugars such as Aspartame, Sodium, Saccharin, and Cyclamate.”

He further noted that Stevia extract can prevent the increase of the volume of renal structures in diabetic patients.

“Stevia also increases the amount of cortisol hormone that plays a role in regulating blood pressure, immune system and metabolism of sugar, fat and protein in the body. Also, the use of Stevia for a long time can reduce blood pressure by increasing cortisol levels. So if the people with hypertension drink tea sweetened with dried leaves of Stevia for two days, their blood pressure will be decreased without side effects.”

Moradi mentioned that Stevia, in addition to being helpful for diabetics and even treating the disease, can treat some other diseases.

“Recent research has shown Stevioside, which creates bitter taste in the Stevia leaves, increases the deaths of cancer cells, and weakens the systems that contribute to the growth of cancer cells.”

According to a team of Japanese researchers, Stevia sweeteners have a weakening effect on tumors and are able to control skin cancer cells. In addition, Stevia leaves have other beneficial effects, including the existence of antibacterial, antioxidant, and antifungal compounds whose antioxidant activity is effective in reducing the risk of cancer.

Moradi said that at the moment the natural Stevia sweeteners are imported from abroad.

“Considering the importance of these sweeteners, the Institute has implemented a strategy to improve the performance of the active elements of Stevia. This strategy helps reduce the import of artificial sweeteners and replace them with calorie-free sweeteners, and increases farmers’ income through creating further jobs in the industry,” he concluded.

Iran Leader Pardons, Commutes Sentences of 615 Prisoners

Iran Leader - Ayatollah Khamenei

The pardon was granted at the request of Iranian Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani on the occasion of great Muslim festivals of Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Ghadeer.

Eid al-Adha (the Feast of Sacrifice) marks the end of the hajj pilgrimage and is one of the most significant holidays in the Muslim calendar.

Eid al-Ghadeer is a festive day observed by Shiite Muslims on the 18th of Dhu al-Hijjah in the Islamic calendar to commemorate the appointment of Ali ibn Abi Talib by the Prophet Mohammad (PUBH) as his immediate successor.

Article 110 of the Constitution grants the Supreme Leader the right to pardon or reduce the sentences of convicts upon a recommendation from the head of the Judiciary.

The clemency, however, does not apply to all types of convicts, including those who have been sentenced for their role in armed struggle against the country, armed or organized drug trafficking, rape, armed robbery, arms smuggling, abduction, bribery and embezzlement.

Zarif, Erdogan Discuss US Pressures in Ankara

Zarif made the remarks on Wednesday following a surprise visit to Turkey where he met with his counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“Our friends in Turkey along with many of Washington’s allies in Europe have reached the conclusion that the US can no longer be depended on as partner,” he said.

He added that the US’ actions show that countries must rethink their further relations, and that Washington’s pressure on regional countries will serve to bring them together.

Following the meeting, Zarif tweeted that the meeting had been successful and had been focused on dealing with Washington’s “behavior”.

“Just finished fruitful consultations with Turkish FM @mevlutcavusoglu, and President @rt_erdogan on bilateral relations and regional cooperation in the face of malign US behavior. Off to #Pakistan tomorrow to meet with new leadership. Our neighbors our priority,” he tweeted.

According to the Anadolu news agency, Cavusoglu said “bilateral ties… (and) Syria” were on the meeting agenda.

Zarif is due to visit Pakistan on Friday to meet the country’s newly-elected Prime Minister Imran Khan.

On Monday, Turkish Finance Minister Berat Albayrak said recent unilateral steps taken by the United States to wage an economic war against Ankara are politically-motivated and could serve to ultimately bolster regional terrorism and the refugee crisis.

Washington and Ankara are entangled in a dispute over an American pastor standing trial in Turkey over terror charges.

Pastor Andrew Brunson has been accused of having links with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and the Gulen movement, which Turkey blames for the 2016 failed military coup.

Brunson, who has already spent nearly two years behind bars in Turkey, has denied the charges, calling them “shameful and disgusting.” If found guilty, he will face up to 35 years in jail. His imprisonment and then house arrest have caused one of the deepest rows between Turkey and the US.

The US has taken the dispute to the economic front, adopting a series of punitive measures against Turkey, including imposing sanctions on Turkish ministers and doubling of steel and aluminum tariffs, which have led to a sharp decline in Turkey’s currency, the lira.

Iran FM in Pakistan for High-Level Talks

The Iranian top diplomat’s trip comes as the new Pakistani premier Imran Khan has announced his plan to visit Iran as his first foreign destination in coming weeks. He is going to visit Saudi Arabia next.

The new Pakistani government has announced willingness to help improve ties between Iran and Saudi Arabia several times so far.

Speaking in a press conference in Islamabad on Tuesday, Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said Pakistan would work to maintain balanced relations with both Tehran and Riyadh.

“For us, both Iran and Saudi Arabia are very important countries and we would like to have relations with both the countries based on mutual respect,” IRNA quoted him as saying.

“If there is a chance for mediation between the two countries, we will play a role,” he noted.

Qureshi also said he is pleased to meet his Iranian counterpart during his trip to Islamabad.

He said that Iran is a neighbour and good friend of Pakistan, like other Muslim countries in the Persian Gulf such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Qureshi said Pakistan is willing to promote calm in common borders.

“Creating peace and security in borders with Iran is in line with Pakistan’s interests,” he said.

Iran FM Zarif to Visit Pakistan Thursday

“Iran’s Foreign Minister will depart for Islamabad on Thursday to hold meetings with Pakistan’s new government officials and discuss expansion of bilateral cooperation between the two neighbouring countries,” Qassemi said.

“In the two-day trip, our foreign minister will hold meetings with high-ranking officials including Prime Minister Imran Khan,” he noted in a Wednesday statement.

Holding meetings with speakers of Pakistan’s national parliament and the senate, foreign minister, army chief, and economy minister are among other plans of the foreign minister in Islamabad,” he said.

The top story in all papers today was President Hassan Rouhani’s speech at the Parliament, during which he responded to five questions raised by the lawmakers about the country’s economic woes.

The parliamentarians, however, were not convinced by his answers to four of their five questions, which focused on increased unemployment rate, the growing foreign currency rates, the smuggling of goods into the country, and the ongoing economic downturn. They were just relatively convinced on the banking sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

Reformist papers criticized Rouhani for not speaking out against what they call elements disrupting the government’s performance. Conservative papers, for their part, welcomed the Parliament’s nay vote to Rouhani’s responses, and urged him to improve his administration’s performance.

Several papers also covered the military deployment of Russia and Syria ahead of an alleged plan by the US and its allies to attack Damascus.

Iran Holds Festival in Thanksgiving for Blessing of Date Harvest

The festival, which was held on August 23, puts on display the lifestyles of the people of Hormozgan province during the date harvest season.

The Mogh and Moshta Festival displays the significance of palm trees in the lives of the people of Minab.

In ancient times, these people used to prepare their food, house, and much of the equipment used in their everyday life using the palm trees; therefore, reliance on the valuable tree resulted in certain customs at the time of the harvest and processing of the product.

No Talks to Be Held with US at Any Level: Iran Leader

Ayatollah Khamenei on Wednesday said the current officials in the US are blatantly showing enmity towards Iran unlike their predecessors who at least tried to pretend otherwise.

“So there will be no negotiation at any levels with the Americans,” said the Leader, addressing cabinet members on the occasion of Government Week.

Ayatollah Khamenei noted that all previous US administration were after holding talks with the Islamic Republic, adding, “They want to say that we even managed to bring Iran to the negotiating table; so, as I have already stated in detail, there will be no talks with them.”

The Leader underlined that there is no problem with the continuation of negotiations with Europe, but the negotiators must not hold out so much hope [on Europe] on issues such as the JCPOA and economy.

He also criticised Europe’s inappropriate behaviour on issues like sanctions and the nuclear deal stressing that Iran must look at the process with uncertainty and great care.

Ayatollah Khamenei said the JCPOA is a means to preserve national interests noting that the 2015 agreement is not a goal, but a means.

“Therefore, if we come to the conclusion that it is not possible to maintain national interests by this means, we will abandon it,” he added.

“Europeans should understand from the remarks and actions of the Iranian officials that their measures will lead to appropriate moves by the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he underlined.

Iran’s Top Commander Warns US against Adventures in Persian Gulf

Iran Will Definitely Change Approach to UAE: Top General

Speaking in a meeting with personnel and commanders of the IRGC’s naval forces in Mashhad, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri warned the US against military confrontations with the Islamic Republic in the Persian Gulf.

“Enemies should know that the Persian Gulf is not a good place for war and clashes,” he noted.

“Thanks to the preparedness of IRGC naval forces, hostile countries become anxious when entering the Hormuz Strait. [As a result of this fear] they have behaved within the international law during the past year. If they make any move against it [the international law], they will face confrontation and controlling measures by the IRGC naval forces,” he said.

Tensions between Tehran and Washington have seen a surge since US President Donald Trump took office January 2017.

Trump pulled the US out of the 2015 nuclear deal in May, and is returning its anti-Iran sanctions suspended under the nuclear accord.

Washington is also working to push the world to cut trade with Iran and stop purchasing the country’s oil.  Iran has vowed to hamper the region’s oil flow in case the US cut down to zero Iran’s oil exports.
