Attack on Terrorists in Iraqi Kurdistan Retaliatory, Pre-emptive: Iran

Qassemi said on Monday that the missile attacks on the positions of terrorists in northern Iraq were not a desirable option for Iran.

In response to a question raised by Al Jazeera correspondent, the Iranian official noted that the terrorist movements, especially their killing of Iranian border guards and soldiers, forced the Iranian armed forces to take a retaliatory, deterrent and even precautionary measure based on certain credible information.

“We hope that, with the arrangements made by all parties, the shared borders in this sensitive area would turn into the safest and most stable ones in the region,” added Qassemi.

Undoubtedly, he said, Iran never gives any concessions to anyone when it comes to its security and the aggression of terrorists, anti-Iran figures and hostile dependent elements.

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) on Sunday claimed responsibility for the missile attacks on terrorist groups in Iraq’s Kurdistan a day earlier.

The IRGC fired seven missiles on the positions of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDP-I) and the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI), killing at least 15 people, according to Kurdish media.

Hall Built in Iran for Manufacturing Modern Centrifuges: Nuclear Chief

Ali Akbar Salehi, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), said the facility has been built on the orders of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, IRNA reported on Sunday.

“The hall has now been well equipped and rendered operational,” Salehi said.

“We take an ad hoc decision in proportion to each circumstance,” he said of the measure.

“Another example was the decree issued concerning [manufacturing] of nuclear propulsion devices,” the official said, noting that the project would take 10 to 15 years to complete.

Both the measures lie within the limits set by the country’s 2015 nuclear agreement with world countries, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Salehi noted.

The AEOI chief, however, cautioned that the country could suspend some of the restrictions it has accepted as part of the agreement such as the ones concerning the volume and level of enrichment, or eventually completely leave the accord.

Concerning the last prospect, though, he said, “I hope that with the help of the 4+1 countries, this would never happen since all will suffer [as a result].”

He was referring to the UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany, the countries remaining part of the accord after the United States ended its participation.

US President Donald Trump pulled the US out of the deal in May, and said he would reinstate the US nuclear sanctions on Iran and impose “the highest level” of economic bans on the Islamic Republic.

The United Nations, the European Union, which coordinated the talks leading to the deal, and the other signatories to the JCPOA had all warned Washington against the withdrawal, calling the agreement a pivot of regional and international peace and security.

“US Claim of Bringing Iran’s Oil Sales to Zero Just Nonsense”

New Economic Plans Needed to Counter Fallout from COVID-19 Outbreak: Iran VP

The comment was made by First Vice-President Es’haq Jahangiri at a gathering of academicians in Tehran.

“However, there is a possibility of Iran’s oil sales dropping,” the official added.

He said today Iran is in a critical situation, but “that does not mean that all the existing elements are threats; rather, good opportunities can be extracted from within these tough conditions.”

“The experience of different countries also shows that major developments were the result of tough conditions, and many wars and difficult situations that countries experienced turned into important and positive results and events for them,” said the first vice president.

He touched upon the management of the ruling elite in the United States and Washington’s efforts to put pressure on the Iranian nation.

“Of course, they are not seeking military action because they are well aware of its destructive effects on the world. But they have entered into a soft war against the Iranian nation, and they are seeking to affect public opinion in our country through economic and media pressure,” he noted.

He said the US is trying to bring Iran’s oil sales to zero and prevent Iran’s access to financial resources and stop the imports of goods into the country by imposing sanctions on Iranian banks and transportation system.

“Despite all difficulties and hardships, the [Iranian government] is wholeheartedly looking for solutions to neutralize their programs,” he said.

Tehran Can’t Confirm 14 Iranians Tried to Illegally Enter Bahrain

Bahram Qassemi

In a Monday statement, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said, “So far, no document or evidence has been presented to Iranian officials, and this claim cannot be confirmed due to lack of enough information.”

“The claim that these people are Iranian-born and have entered Bahrain with fake passports cannot be verified and no comments can be given until complete information has been received,” he said.

Qassemi also said the Bahraini government does not issue any visas for Iranians and there is no way for the country’s nationals to visit Bahrain, as the two countries have had no diplomatic relations in the past few years.

Authorities in Bahrain claim they have arrested 14 Iranians who had entered the island nation on “forged Asian passports.”

Bahrain’s Interior Ministry made the announcement Saturday night, saying those arrested paid for the Asian passports in cash to be able to enter the island, AP reported.

The statement did not identify those arrested, nor did it offer a motive for their entry into Bahrain.

Bahrain has since 2011 been the scene of pro-democracy uprising by the Shiite majority in the country.

The country has for years been accusing Iran of stirring dissent on the island, but Tehran denies the allegations.

Trump’s Anti-Iran Sanctions to Lead Nowhere: Shamkhani

shamkhani

Ali Shamkhani, the Secretary of Supreme National Security Council, said Monday the US sanctions against Iran, including those targeting Iran’s automotive sector, are aimed at placing maximum pressure on the Iranian people.

However, they will fail to force the Iranian people into surrendering to the US, he said during a visit to a car production unit of national carmaker Iran Khodro Company (IKCO) in Tehran.

“Our nation will prove that as Saddam is buried in Tikrit and Baghdad is controlled by freedom-seeking forces of the region, the US strategy of sanctions … will lead nowhere,” Fars News Agency quoted him as saying.

Saddam’s regime was toppled by the 2003 US invasion of Iraq and he was executed by the Iraqi government in 2006.

The US re-imposed parts of anti-Iran sanctions last month, and it is working to push the world to cut trade with Iran and stop purchasing the country’s oil before November, when further sanctions on oil and the central bank of Iran will be restored.

The US, which pulled out of the nuclear deal in May, has provided Iran with a list of 12 demands that must be capitulated for the sanctions to be removed.

Lalejin; A World Craft City with Zero Unemployment Rate

There is no unemployed person in the city and many people from other cities come to work in Lalejin, which is widely known for its high standards of craftsmanship.

In Lalejin, in every alley you can find a pottery workshop. Here, clay is very important, and at least some intact and broken pottery can be found in every home.

There are more than 1,000 pottery workshops in the small city, and that has created a huge number of job opportunities for the residents.

Every workshop is known for a particular product.  In these workshops, men make the pottery and cook them in the furnace. Some of them draw paintings on the products or let women at home paint on the pottery. That’s because the workshops’ atmosphere is female-unfriendly, and making pottery needs masculine hands. Women, who work in pottery workshops in other cities, usually make decorative dishes.

Officials from the city of Lalejin also tell the journalists that the city has zero unemployment rates, as all people have a job and even some people come from other cities to work in this city. One makes a pottery, another places it in the furnace, and the other one paints it.

Some others are busy at 12 exporting units to send these potteries abroad. There are many other people who work in 264 workshops in the industrial town.

None of these people want to see Chinese pottery in their city. For this reason, Mohammad Reza Qaderi, the Director of the Handicrafts Department of Lalejin, says “we do not have a Chinese pottery. This word is totally wrong. They are Chinese products, but we do not give them to the customers. It is no longer cost-effective for the customers to buy Chinese products when the Iranian products come in better quality and price.”

He also added that the quality of Lalejin’s pottery is much better now after it became famous around the world.

“Each year, world-class handicrafts referees come to Lalejin to see whether the Lalejin pottery is still good enough in terms of colour and quality.”

As Qaderi and the municipality of Laljin emphasise, the UNESCO evaluators annually write a positive report on Lalejin and are satisfied with the fact that all the people have a job there.

Laljin has been selected as the best exporting city for the past 5 years and its products have been exported to Iraq and Afghanistan, among other countries. Spaniards, Germans and Dutch are the main customers of these potteries.

Iran FM Wishes Happy New Year for Jews

In a message on his Twitter on Sunday, Zarif said, “As the sun gives way to the moon, I wish all my Jewish compatriots and Jews worldwide a very Happy New Year filled with peace and harmony. Happy Rosh Hashanah.”

Zarif’s tweet also shared photos of ceremonies held by Iran’s Jewish minority in their synagogues.

Ali Younesi, a special aide to President Hassan Rouhani for religious minorities’ affairs, also wished a happy New Year for the Jewish community of Iran and the world in a Monday message.

Over 9,000 Jews are reportedly living in Iran, mostly in the cities of Tehran, Isfahan, and Shiraz. Under the Iranian Constitution, the country’s Jews are represented in the parliament.

Forex Offices Allowed to Import Foreign Currencies to Iran

In addition to foreign exchange offices, he said, exporters are also authorised to import part of their export revenues in the form of banknotes under the supervision of the Central Bank.

In an interview with Eghtesad Online, Hemmati noted that 2.5 billion euros has been allocated for the import of essential goods and factory supplies.

The decision by the Central Bank comes as the Iranian rial has plunged to its lowest rate against the US dollar within the last few weeks, traded at over 120,000 rials.

The official dollar exchange rate, however, remains at 42,000 rials for vital imports such as medicine and food.

A secondary market has also been opened by the Central Bank, in which the country’s exporters put on sale their forex revenues at rates under 100,000 rials.
