Persian Saffron Ice Cream; Delicate Dessert for Hot Days

Saffron is one of the most popular Iranian spices with many benefits including protecting the body against diseases due to its antioxidants and carotenoids. It is also effective in relaxing the nerves and forming blood cells. Saffron is an anti-depressant that helps in absorbing calcium.  As it is full of manganese, saffron helps metabolism and regulates blood glucose.

Ingredient:

1 cup of sugar

3 cups of milk

¼ cup of rosewater

1/3 cup of cream

1 tsp of salep

1 tbsp of cardamom

½ tbsp of brewed saffron

Pistachio; as much as needed

Persian Saffron Ice Cream; Delicate Dessert for Hot DaysDirections:

First pour the milk into a container and put it on the heat. Then, add a little sugar (50 g) and wait until it reaches the boiling point. Take another container and mix the remaining sugar with salep. Add the sugar and salep mixture slowly to the milk container. To completely dissolve the salep and sugar in the milk, use a mixer to stir the ingredients. At this point add the rosewater, but before that turn off the flame. Now add saffron. Add the cream and cardamom after the ingredients are cooled down. In order to dissolve the cream in the milk, keep stirring. Take a metal container to pour the mixture into it. Place the container in freezer. To get a nice ice cream repeat the last step 3 times every hour. Perhaps some people tend to use dried cream in their ice cream. In that case, mix 100 grams of cream with 1 tsp of sugar and then pour it into a tray and place it in the fridge to get frozen.

Grave Belonging to Iron Age Warrior Discovered in Northern Iran

Shahram Ramin, who is a member of discovery team, says in the explorations of this site, several graves were discovered with burial gifts. “The works found next to them show that these graves belong to the Iron Age.”

According to Ramin, this site was at risk of destruction due to the implementation of a construction project; therefore, a team of archaeologists began the emergency exploration of the site.

Grave Belonging to Iron Age Warrior Discovered in Northern Iran“The skeleton belongs to a forty-year-old man with a height between 160 and 167 centimetres. Considering the importance of it, the team plans to register the grave and the findings by laser. In addition to the Iron Age graves, a number of tools have been discovered at lower depths, which according to preliminary studies by the experts of the National Museum of Iran, are probably related to the Epipaleolithic period.”

This ancient site was explored for the first time by the Japanese archaeologists for five years between 1973 to 1978 followed by explorations by Mohammad Reza Khalatbari during the years 1986 to 1988.

The result was the acquisition of works from the first millennium to the Sassanid period.

Also, during excavations in 2014 by the archaeologists some graves belonging to the first millennium BC were discovered.

Qatar’s Awarding of Windcatcher Scale Model Raises Eyebrows in Iran

The windcatchers had been awarded to the Brazilian star Neymar and manager Thomas Tuchel, who also received €25,000 cheques from the French club’s official partner, Qatari telephone operator Ooredoo.

The camel race, a popular sporting tradition in southern Persian Gulf, was held at the Al Shahaniya course near Doha as part of the club’s winter tour in Qatar.

In the race, Paris Saint-Germain players piled into 4x4s, with each player controlling one of 13 competing camels via walkie-talkie.

Stealing Iran’s Architecture

Iranian social media users and journalists objected the move, describing it as part of Iran’s neighbouring government’s efforts to steal Iran’s culture and heritage.

UAE Attracting Tourists by Showing Off Persian Architecture

“Why the heck are they awarding symbols of Iranian architecture as their own achievements?” Khabaronline news website wrote.

A windcatcher is the traditional Iranian architecture found throughout the country, particularly in the central parts of Iran.

The tower is a simple yet effective solution for cooling air in warm climates, allowing hot air to rise out the top of it, and cooler directed winds to flow down into the home.

Yazd, a city in central Iran known as the “City of Windcatchers”, was inscribed as a UNESCO world heritage site in 2017.

The wind towers were introduced to Arabs in southern Persian Gulf in 1850s, when Iranian traders created structure built of stone or mud to ventilate their mansions.

Not First Time

Qatar’s Awarding of Windcatcher Scale Model Raises Eyebrows in IranThe PSG’s Qatar tour, which ended on January 17, included an intense week of training, sponsorship activities and media interviews.

The tour was held as part of Qatar’s efforts to promote its image in the football world prior to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

This is not the first time the Arab states of the Persian Gulf are being accused of stealing Iran’s heritage.

These governments, particularly the UAE, have in recent years been building elements of Persian architecture, particularly the Iranian windcatchers to turn their countries into attractive destinations for foreign tourists.

Interestingly, the UAE has registered the Iranian windcatchers, which are called Barjil in Arabic, as its own cultural and historical heritages in the country’s school books.

Iran, Iraq Enjoying Most Strategic Ties Ever: Ex-Diplomat

Mohammad-Sadeq Kharrazi, Iran’s ex-ambassador to Iraq, in an opinion piece published in Iran newspaper weighed in on the status of Iran-Iraq relations as well as the situation in Iraq. The full text of the article follows:

Iraq is the land of contemporary sufferings and agonies. The unlimited wealth in the country was devoured by the greed of some people at a time when the Tikrit-born dictator in Baghdad was throwing his weight around. However, Tehran and Baghdad have opened a new chapter in their relations in the post-Saddam era despite the hostilities and objections of third parties, especially the United States and Saudi Arabia. Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif being warmly welcomed by his Iraqi counterpart bears testimony to this good relationship.

The recent elections in Iraq further reinforced the pillars of democracy in the country and deepened the trend of democracy there. This can directly contribute to the expansion of ties between Iran and Iraq both of which have experienced democracy. At the moment, the ruling elite in Iraq have a positive viewpoint toward Iran and seek the promotions of ties with Tehran despite foreign pressures. They seem to have the will to forge close ties, too. During his trip to Iraq, Zarif was accompanied by an economic-political delegation comprising some 50 investors, businessmen, entrepreneurs and producers, which shows that Iraq is of paramount importance to Iran.

While the United States tries to exert maximum economic pressure on Iran following its unilateral withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iraq can be a safe source to help Iran during the course of sanctions and can help ease the pressure of Washington’s sanctions. Zarif and his entourage were warmly welcomed by Iraqi officials, namely Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, President Barham Salih, Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Alhakim, and other top political leaders such as leader of the National Alliance party Sayyed Ammar al-Hakim, and commander of the Popular Mobilisation Untis Hadi al-Ameri, two powerful blocs at the Iraqi parliament. This warm welcome bears attests to the fact that the Iraqi side is strongly interested to further expand relations with Iran on all economic, political and security fronts.

The Iranian delegation was also warmly welcomed in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region by the territory’s Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani, Kurdistan Democratic Party leader Masoud Barzani and others, which shows they also would like to further deepen their ties with Iran and take giant steps toward the promotion of relations with Tehran. Iran-Iraq economic relations reached around $12 billion in the past 10 months, which could rise to $20 billion annually if the existing obstacles are removed and the necessary loans are offered to the economic players of both countries. The figure could even touch $30 billion a year given the direct and indirect relations between the two sides.

At the moment, Iraqi visitors account for the largest number of tourists coming to Iran. Iran, too, is the number-one contributor to Iraq’s tourism industry. Figures show that more than 7 million tourists keep visiting the two countries. If the necessary loans are offered and the impediment such as visa requirements are removed, the figure could rise to 10 million tourists a year. During his visit to Iraq, Zarif said the Iranian side intends to remove visa requirements for Iraqi businessmen. This could serve as a step forward toward the promotion of relations between the two countries in the domain of tourism. The existing potentialities in the two countries’ tourism industries, namely religious sites and non-religious attractions, can also contribute to the further reinforcement of the tourism industry in both countries.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani is due to visit Iraq on March 11, 2019. It could be a major step toward the further enhancement of mutual relations and complement Zarif’s visit. A rise in the number of diplomatic and economic visits between the two countries will play a key role in deepening mutual ties and can greatly help ease US pressures on both the Iranian and Iraqi sides. In fact, Washington is not content with the expansion of relations between Iran and Iraq and seeks to eclipse their ties by exerting pressure on both sides.

Iranian-Style Wedding Dress Displayed at Berlin Show

The Berlin Bride festival has been held annually, but the presence of an Iranian fashion designer at the event over the past two years has come into the spotlight.

Fashion designer Mahboubeh Bolandi, who has managed to create some 200 direct and indirect job opportunities over the past 15 years, has been front-page news with her presence at the festival, reported IRNA.

She says European models put on the clothes of different brands at the festival and hit the catwalk to draw the audience’s attention. During the event, the manager of each brand rents a few models to show off his/her products on the stage.

However, European models showed an interest in wearing Islamic bride’s clothes without eying any financial gain at the 2019 Berlin Bride. Around 15 European models had been lining up to display Islamic bride’s gowns on the stage.

Other Islamic clothes designed by the same Iranian designer and entrepreneur, including mantillas and party dresses, were also warmly welcomed by the models at the event.

According to Bolandi, Iranian brands and Islamic clothes were not allowed to take part at the 2017 event. She says she managed to attend the festival at the 2018 festival, and that she was officially invited by festival managers to attend the event in 2019.

She says she tries to take to international festivals in 2020 a number of her colleagues working in the field of fashion designing.

Enemies’ Plot to Trigger Unrest in Iran Foiled: Police Chief

Brigadier General Hossein Ashtari said opposition groups and the enemies were plotting to disrupt the ceremonies marking the anniversary of the revolution’s victory on February 11, but their conspiracy was thwarted.

He said police and security forces will, like in previous years, ensure security during this year’s rallies which will be marked by a huge turnout of people.

He urged people and officials to remain vigilant and prepared.

He noted that police need to take action carefully, swiftly and prudently.

Placards Against Arrest of Press TV Anchor Projected on BBC Building

An Islamic rights group has protested the arrest of Hashemi, the Press TV’s anchor, on the BBC building in London Friday night.

Hashemi was arrested Sunday at the St. Louis airport on a visit to see an ailing family member, Press TV has announced.

The placard, projected by the Islamic Human Right Commission, a London-based rights group, called for the immediate release of Hashemi.

“Journalist who has been abducted for exposing US crimes against the oppressed”, the placard said, protesting the reported mistreatment of Hashemi at the hands of the US police.

Masoud Shajareh, the chairman of the rights group, told IRNA on Friday the commission has sent a letter to UN human rights rapporteurs, voicing protest against the arbitrary arrest.

Hashemi, born in the US in 1959, converted to Islam and moved to Iran following the 1979 revolution of Iran.

Iran has protested the arrest of Hashemi calling on the US to disclose the basis for her detention.

A US court on Friday confirmed the arrest of Hashemi saying she is not accused of a crime, but her testimony is required over an unspecified case, AFP reported.

The order said that Hashemi was arrested on “a material arrest warrant” in a case in Washington.

She will be released after the completion of her testimony to a jury investigating unspecified “violations of US criminal law,” the statement said.

Repercussions of the arrest of Press TV anchor and journalist Marzieh Hashemi remained a top story today, as several international bodies called for her immediate release. Hashemi was arrested in St Louis on Sunday and was later transferred to a facility in Washington D-C where she said she was mistreated. There is no information about her health condition as of now. Iran has called for her immediate and unconditional release, saying the detention is illegal and against international law.

Also a top story was the sale of oil by Iran and the extension of waivers for Iranian oil purchasers. Papers had different speculations about the exemptions.

The Warsaw Summit and Europeans countries decision to not attend the anti-Iran meeting also received great coverage in today’s papers. Several of them said the project has already failed.

Iranian Scientists Make Herbal Spray to Treat Migraine

According to ISNA, a medicine called ‘Migraine Cut’ has been developed by a knowledge-based company. It is the first spray to treat migraine headaches. This combination of herbs is the result of 25 years of research and development.

‘Migraine Cut’ is a combination of Lavender, Marjoram, Fennel, Violet and other herbs. This medication is sprayed daily through the nose. The advantages of nasal delivery are the ease of drug absorption, painlessness, safe use, high oral and anal absorption, rapid absorption by the brain and the central nervous system, and not entering the secondary metabolic pathway in the gastrointestinal tract.

The course of treatment with this drug is 4 months, during which the patient should use 6 sprays and the effect of the medication will be seen during this period.

This medicine does not have any side effects of chemical drugs and it has already been tested.

For a brief review of Iran’s achievements in various fields of science and technology, check the book “Science and Technology in Iran: A Brief Review

So far, herbal products have not been available for migraine treatment. And all the drugs that have been offered to treat migraines were chemically-made.

The results of studies conducted on this medicine showed that migraine headaches of 81% of the patients, who finished their treatment had completely eliminated, and in improved headaches in 96%.

‘Migraine Cut’ has now been licensed by Iran’s Food and Drug Administration and been delivered to all pharmacies.

According to the World Health Organization, headaches are the third most common disease in the world. Migraine alone is the sixth leading cause of headaches among all humans.

It mostly happens between the ages of 25 and 55, and in Iran there are about 10 million migraine patients, most of whom are attacked one or two times a month.
