5 Tip-Top Travel Health Tips

In a new environment, that your body is unfamiliar with, you’re at a greater risk of getting ill. And depending on the types of activities you’ll be participating in, your chances of getting injured might be increased too.

This doesn’t mean that you should avoid going on holiday altogether – quite the opposite. As long as you’re careful and take some precautions, there’s nothing to stop you from having a vacation that’s safe but also spectacular.

With that in mind, here are five fantastic travel health tips. Sit back and take note of them.

  1. Research

The first thing you should do when heading abroad is research the health risks associated with your destination. Consider factors like the weather – is there a high risk of hypothermia or dehydration? Whether there are poisonous insects and animals lurking about, as well as common contagious diseases. By familiarizing yourself with the dangers, you’ll be better placed to take the necessary precautions.

  1. Vaccinate

If you’re travelling to a location where infectious diseases such as hepatitis, malaria and typhoid are prevalent, you should check what vaccinations are available and which ones are required. A good place to look is the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website. Some vaccines require more than one dose and need to be administered weeks or even months in advance of travel, so be organized.

  1. First aid kit

Whether you’re going to be taking part in extreme outdoor activities or simply plan on strolling about from one tourist spot to another, you should pack a small first aid kit. This way you’ll be prepped for dealing with any pedobearpics.com, such as cuts and grazes. You can buy travel health kits, however if you’d prefer to customize your own,  this NHS travel health article lists the contents of a basic kit.

  1. Eat healthy

When you’re busy travelling from place to place, healthy eating is unlikely to be high on your radar. Instead, you grab food wherever you can and indulge yourself by sampling local cuisine at restaurants, food stalls and fast food outlets. This is okay on occasion, but for the most part you need to ensure that you’re eating fresh, healthy and nutritious foods, that help keep your immune system nicely boosted – so your body can quickly adapt to your new environment.

  1. Drive

Don’t start your travels, sat on an uncomfortable train or bus seat – drive to the airport instead. In your car, with your seat perfectly adjusted for your body, you’ll be able to avoid the nasty musculoskeletal conditions that come about from using poor quality seating. Remember to book some parking too – for great deals for hubs across the globe like LA and London, check out airport parking site Looking4.com.

Follow these tips and you’ll be well prepared to deal with any health hazards that might try and trip you up on you next holiday.

That’s our list. Share your travel health tips in the comments section.

Chinese Bitcoin Miners Officially Ask for Permission to Work in Iran

Countries with cheap electricity have emerged as major hosts of cryptocurrency mining. China is a major player in the bitcoin market, hosting a substantial share of miners.

According to the managing director of Iran Blockchain Association, a nonprofit community which promotes blockchain technologies, initial discussions have been held with the Chinese about their plans in Iran.

“The Chinese have made requests through official channels for cryptocurrency mining in free zones,” Mohammad Sharqi said.

At home, the Chinese government has begun limiting cryptocurrency mining, forcing many prospectors to find bases elsewhere.

Chinese companies are among the biggest manufacturers of bitcoin mining gear. They sold about $1.30 billion of blockchain hardware in 2017, 45 percent of global sales by value.

In Iran, domestic cryptocurrency mining has officially been recognized as an industry but different state organs remain uncoordinated when it comes to the overall policy.

Nasser Hakimi, deputy governor for new technologies at the Central Bank of Iran, said on Monday bitcoin trading is illegal, citing a ban by the local anti-money laundering authority.

Last year, when the central bank officially banned lenders from servicing crypto businesses, officials said they would consider launching their own digital token.

A 7% spike in power consumption in June, however, has generated a chorus of recrimination which has touched off peremtory crackdown on bitcoin miners.

Digital miners in Iran are said to be basing their operations in locations with access to subsidized electricity, such as factories, agricultural sites, government offices and mosques.

Sharqi believes much of the clamor about an extremely deleterious effect of the practice is overblown.

While there is no precise tabulation on cryptocurrency mining in Iran, one electrical industry spokesman has put the number of bitcoin mining machines north of 148,000.

On the flip side, the government is facing a serious dilemma as it is taking to the virtual, decentralized currency concept.

Despite being an alternative currency alternative, governments across the world are wary of bitcoin’s disruptive nature due to a lack of state control and regulation.

In the United States, lawmakers have called for a bill outlawing cryptocurrencies, because they can help governments skirt sanctions.

That is because an awful lot of the US power comes from the dollar being used as the standard unit of international finance and transactions. The use of bitcoin is eating at that advantage and effectively disempowering the United States.

For countries like Iran, however, virtual and digital currencies provide a back-channel to bypass US sanctions.

Sharqi says the energy ministry had better regulate digital mining by giving out licenses for industrial and commercial utilization of electricity.

“Our argument is there is a danger that these activities might go underground and to the homes of ordinary people, which is dangerous,” he said.

On Saturday, Iran’s Minister for Communications and Information Technology Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi admitted that the Chinese were interested in tapping Iranian cryptocurrency market.

“If there is a demand by foreign investors in this regard, the Ministry of Energy could take advantage of it and welcome them in order to develop infrastructure and produce electricity,” Sharqi said.

‘Britons Initiated Insecurity’, Iran President Warns UK

Addressing a weekly cabinet session on Wednesday, Rouhani described the UK’s seizure of the Iranian vessel as a “very cheap and wrong” move which is detrimental for London.

“I tell the Britons that you are the initiators of insecurity and will learn and understand the consequences later,” he warned, saying that the UK will be responsible for all that ensues.

He also stressed that shipping routes in the world must enjoy full security.

“We all should strive to make shipping safe across the world. We should help ensure the safety of energy transport routes across the world,” he said.

“You’re now so pathetic that when your oil tanker wants to move in the region (Persian Gulf) you have to escort it with your warships, out of fear. Are you sick? Let shipping remain safe; let the world be safe,” he added.

Rouhani also referred to Gibraltar as a Spanish territory occupied by British forces.

“A usurper has seized our oil tanker. It [Gibraltar] is a Spanish territory. If Spain had seized the tanker, we’d say they’ve made such a move in their own territory. But the UK has occupied Gibraltar – which belongs to Spain,” Rouhani noted.

“he occupying country is illegally present there. It’s wrong, and all the people of Spain are angry with the UK’s occupation,” he added.

Iranian supertanker Grace 1 was boarded and impounded by Gibraltar police and customs agencies, aided by a detachment of British Royal Marines, on Thursday at the US request in the Strait of Gibraltar.

While the UK claims it has seized the tanker on the pretext that it was carrying oil to Syria in breach of the EU sanctions against the Arab country, Iran says it was not bound for Syria, and the UK was not allowed to seize it.

“The oil tanker (seized in Gibraltar) was not bound for Syria. The Syrian port they mention basically is not suitable for such type of tanker to dock,” Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi said Sunday.

“The oil tanker carrying Iran’s oil was a supertanker with 2 million barrels of oil, and with such a huge capacity it could not cross the Suez Canal,” Araqchi added, speaking to reporters in a press conference.

‘IAEA Meeting Good Chance for Iran to Protest West’s Violations’

Iran Says What IAEA Wants to Access “Not A Site”

Seyyed Abbas Mousavi said the meeting to be held on July 10, 2019 at the US request to discuss Iran’s nuclear activities will be a chance for the Islamic Republic to openly announce cases of the US and Europe’s violations of obligations under the Iran nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

“I think in this meeting, instead of Iran being the key topic of discussion, the Islamic Republic of Iran will have the opportunity to make claims and challenge their moves,” said Mousavi in an interview with IRNA.

“It is strange that the United States, … which has breached the JCPOA overtly and covertly, has called for the [IAEA] Board of Governors to review Iran’s status. This is one of bitter ironies that we have faced in recent years,” he said.

He also touched upon the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) member states’ backing for Iran at the IAEA Board of Governors’ meeting.

“NAM member states have adopted a single policy and supported Iran’s rightful position at the UN General Assembly, the IEAE and other forums that they have attended,” he added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Mousavi touched upon Iran’s abidance by its agreements, saying the Islamic Republic will stand behind its rights. However, he underlined that Iran is not seeking tensions and confrontation.

He then thanked France for making efforts to bring the US back to the negotiating table and save the JCPOA.

However, he said, no new talks are on the agenda.

“If negotiations and consultations are to be held, they will be aimed at the enforcement of the nuclear deal and fulfilment of commitments by the three European countries along with Russia and China,” he said.

The spokesman also said he had heard about a “freeze in exchange for freeze” plan, based on which the US would suspend its recent sanctions and Iran freeze its nuclear measures. However, it’s not official yet.

The talk of “freeze plan” was later dismissed by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who said “we neither know what ‘freeze plan’ is, nor have we heard it from the other side.”

Disabled Man Turns into Entrepreneur after Facing Reality

Hamid-Reza Jaberi suffers from disability at the legs and has been living with the disabled for years.

So far, dozens of disabled people have found jobs and managed to earn a living thanks to his efforts. He has arranged for the marriage of hundreds of individuals suffering from spinal cord injuries. He has held wedding ceremonies for them and served as their best man.

Hamid-Reza Jaberi is now a well-known name among the disabled. His stone cutting workshop at Ferdowsi International Trade Centre in downtown Tehran is famous, too. He is not well-known only inside the county. Jaberi’s presence at a handicrafts exhibition held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs drew the attention of ambassadors and VIPs from different countries. A few months ago, he travelled to the Azerbaijan Republic as the “messenger of hope” at the invitation of the country’s ambassador to address the disabled in Azerbaijan about hope to live and make more efforts in life.

In his workshop, stones are cut into beads for necklaces and pieces of jewel for rings. The doors of this workshop are open to disabled apprentices, who are trained for free at the workshop.

Disabled Man Turns into Entrepreneur after Facing RealityUps and Downs of Life

Jaberi tells the Fars News Agency the story of his life.

“I was a successful welder in Tehran. Welding work at many high-rise buildings in Tehran was done by a team of experts working under my supervision. Finally in 1999, my relatives and I went on a trip and had a road accident on the way back home when my spinal cord was severed. I found myself in hospital when I opened my eyes. They hadn’t told me what had happened to me. They kept saying I would be OK, and that it would only take some time to recover. But the reality was that I would never regain my health,” he says.

“No one would see me. I had sold my house and I had no income. At last, I had to sell my fridge, carpets and TV set. I had become angry and irritable. At that time, even my wife wouldn’t like to see me and she left me for the sake of my daughter, who was suffering from severe emotional trauma because of my accident. I was going through tough days. My legs were numb and I couldn’t feel anything. One night, insects had gathered on one of my legs. It was such a terrible scene that I cannot describe it. I called God wholeheartedly, and I promised myself to save my life and begin to cherish hope,” he says.

“My apartment was on the fourth floor and we had no lifts! The following night, I decided after 9 months to leave home. I managed to come down all the way from the fourth floor to the ground floor. I don’t know how many hours it took, and finally I shouted and asked help from neighbours. My neighbours were surprised when they saw me like that. They didn’t know my spinal cord had been severed. They helped me. They talked to the local supermarket, and its owner agreed to let me work as a street vendor in front of the supermarket,” he adds.

“Every morning, neighbours would put me on their shoulders and brought down from the fourth floor. And they would take me back home every night. I was feeling a little bit better, but people’s feeling pity for me really annoyed me. So, I decided to quit working as a street vendor. I got a loan, bought CD recording equipment and opened a shop. At the same time, I worked as a taxi driver. My hope for living had increased. My wife and children returned home and I saw happiness in life again,” says Jaberi.

“Then I began to help people with severed spinal cords. I made every effort to help disabled people with severed spinal cords get out of isolation. Afterwards, I opened a small workshop around Tehran and employed a number of disabled people who were in the worst emotional conditions. I opened an association in a southern neighbourhood of Tehran to support disabled people with spinal cord injuries, so that I would be able to take care of their problems. Then we set up a data bank gathering information about disabled people with spinal cord injuries,” he says.

“I was so much busy solving the problems of people with disabilities that a few years ago, the then head of the Rehabilitation Organization asked me to work as an advisor to a lawmaker who was a member of Parliament’s Disabled Caucus. Good things happened at that time and I made disabled people’s voices heard by officials. I did whatever you may think of, and now I’ve got where I am now. I entered the strange world of stones and continued to create jobs in the field of stone cutting,” he says.

1,400-km Drive to Lut Desert

“It is so enjoyable to look for stones in nature that you will lose track of time once you get involved in this work. First, I went to middlemen to get the stones I need. They would sell stones at prices 5 times that of real prices. As I am disabled and cannot go to the Tehran Market like ordinary people to get the equipment I need, I decided to get part of the instruments I needed by myself. So, my wife and daughter and I go to the heart of the desert. I remember once I drove 1,400 kilometres to get to the Lut Desert in the first months to get some decorative stones I needed. It is easier than you think to find decorative stones in the desert. You only need to be familiar with different types of stone,” he notes.

Products at Jaberi’s Stone Cutting Workshop Win Int’l Fame

After Jaberi took part at the handicrafts expo held by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, foreign guests bought many of the products made at his workshop. Now, his products have changed hands and travelled not only across many Iranian cities, but overseas as well and they are popular in other countries. His products were showcased at exhibits in Spain and Turkey as well. Many disabled people have been trained and been able to earn a living over the past several years. The door of this workshop is open to all disabled people.

Number of Prisoners in Iran Less than 200,000 for First Time in Decade

Number of Prisoners in Iran Less than 200,000 for First Time in Decade

In a statement on Tuesday, the organization rejected some media reports saying that the number of people behind bar in Iran has been growing over the past years.

“We are honoured to announce that in line with the measures adopted by the Iranian judiciary, the organization has managed to decrease the number of prisoners in Iran,” the statement said

According to the statement, a brief comparison between the number of prisoners in Iran this year and in previous years reveals that the number has plummeted to lower than 200 thousand which is unprecedented over the past decade.

“It goes without saying this is mainly due to hard efforts made by the judiciary system as well as the guidelines given by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution,” the statement concluded.

Based on a February order by Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, 22,700 inmates were released from prison across the country and the prison sentences of 13,400 other convicts were commuted.

Of those released under the clemency, 606 were women, an official said.

The clemency was granted on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of victory of the Islamic Revolution.

Article 110 of the Constitution grants the Leader the right to pardon or reduce the sentences of convicts upon a recommendation from the head of the Judiciary.

FIVB Apologizes to Iran over Mistreatment in Chicago

The Iranian national team arrived in Chicago after a 30-hour flight but was held for four hours at the airport, where its members were interrogated and asked silly questions.

“On behalf of the FIVB and entire volleyball family, I would like to apologize to Iran volleyball and we are really ashamed of what has happened in Chicago airport,” FIVB Chief Ary Graça wrote in a letter to Iran’s Volleyball Federation after the latter filed a complaint with it over the incident.

Graca also added the FIVB will do whatever in its power to ensure that the Iranian delegation would have a smooth entry procedure.

“We were shocked to find out what happened. I can assure you that the world federation will find a way to prevent ‘such an incident’ in the future. We wish the Iranian team success in the 2019 Volleyball Nations League,” Graça added.

Iranian Volleyball team has been drawn with Brazil and Poland in Pool B and hosts the US are pitted against Russia and France in Pool A.

The Iranian team, looking for its first VNL medal, will start the competition with a match against powerhouse Poland on July 11. It will also meet Brazil on July 12.

‘MKO Closely Working with US Intelligence against Iran’

Maryam Rajavi, the ringleader of MKO terrorist group (left) and US President Donald Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani

“The MKO, which is responsible for the killing of at least 12,000 Iranian civilians and many Iraqi citizens, as well as a number of other nationalities, continues to receive funds from certain countries in the region while enjoying the support of certain States, including in Europe,” Takht-Ravanchi said Tuesday night.

He made the remarks in an address to the United Nations Security Council meeting on “Threats to international peace and security, linkages between international terrorism and organized crime”.

After being delisted as a terrorist group by the US, he added, the MKO is now active in this country and its members are closely cooperating with the US intelligence community for disruptive and destructive plots and plans against Iran.”

What follows is the full text of his statements:

In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful

Mr President,

I thank you for organizing this meeting. My thanks also go to the Executive Directors of the UNODC and the CTED for their input.

As global concerns, both international terrorism and transnational organized crimes require global response and the United Nations has a decisive role to play in regard to both cases. While the Security Council should continue its role on international terrorism, issues related to transnational organized crimes must be dealt with only by the General Assembly.

Terrorist and criminal groups have different motives and use different methods. However, the impacts of their activities are very similar; both are extremely disruptive and exceedingly destructive.

Iran is the victim of the activities of both terrorist groups and transnational criminals. At the same time, we are at the forefront of combating both menaces.

In the past four decades, 17,161 Iranian citizens, including almost 200 high-ranking political figures, among them one President, one Prime Minister, one Judiciary Chief, one Deputy Chief of Armed Forces and 27 MPs, as well as four nuclear scientists, have been martyred by foreign-backed terrorist groups.

The MKO, which is responsible for the killing of at least 12,000 Iranian civilians and many Iraqi citizens, as well as a number of other nationalities, continues to receive funds from certain countries in the region while enjoying the support of certain States including in Europe.

Moreover, after being delisted as a terrorist group by the US, MKO is now active in this country and its members are closely cooperating with the US intelligence community for disruptive and destructive plots and plans against Iran.

Cognizant of the serious threat posed by terrorist groups in our region, Iran has assisted Iraq and Syria, upon their request, in combating the most dangerous terrorist groups.

In our neighborhood, terrorist groups and organized criminals are involved mostly in trafficking of drugs and, in certain cases, of arms and cultural properties in order to finance their activities.

Therefore, along with terrorist groups, we have also engaged seriously in countering organized criminals, mainly those involved in drug trafficking.

As a result, in the past 40 years, 3,815 of our law enforcement forces have lost their lives and over 12,000 others have been wounded.

In the past three decades, Iran has seized approximately 11,000 tons of different types of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

In 2018 alone, our law enforcement forces carried out 1,557 operations against drug traffickers, seizing approximately 807 tons of different types of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

Our outstanding activities in combating drug traffickers have always been acknowledged at the global level.

For instance, according to the “World Drug Report 2019” of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, in 2017, Iran had seized “the largest quantity of opiates … accounting for 39 per cent of the global total”.

Likewise, during the same period, the largest quantities of opium as well as the second largest quantities of morphine and heroin were also seized by Iran.

We are determined to continue our efforts in combating terrorists and drug traffickers. However, to ensure the continuity and effectiveness of our efforts, the international community must assist Iran, of course without precondition, discrimination or politicization.

I shall also refer to the detrimental effects of unilateral sanctions in undermining our efforts to counter terrorism and organized crimes.

Countries imposing such unlawful sanctions have to be reminded that their sanction policy seriously weakens the effectiveness of counter-narcotic efforts of transit countries.

Ultimately, our success in countering these menaces is dependent largely on our genuine political will, comprehensive approach and non-discriminatory cooperation and assistance.

I thank you, Mr President.

Iranian, Russian Diplomats Hold Talks on Syria, Yemen

A delegation, consisting of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s Special Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentiev and Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin, visited Iran on Tuesday.

The Russian team held a meeting with Ali Asghar Khaji, Iranian Foreign Minister’s Senior Aide for Special Political Affairs and also Iran’s senior negotiator in the talks on Syrian and Yemeni affairs.

In the three-hour-long meeting, the two sides discussed the latest developments in Syria, including the formation of a constitutional committee and a task force on the exchange of detainees and abductees in the Arab country.

The Iranian and Russian teams also exchanged views on the next meeting of the “Astana Process”, due to be held in Kazakhstan’s capital of Nur-Sultan on August 1 and 2, as well as the next summit of the guarantor states of the Astana Process.

Moreover, Khaji and Vershinin held consultations on the situation in Yemen, with both emphasizing the need to end the crisis in the war-hit nation by carrying out the Stockholm ceasefire deal.

Iran and Russia are in close contact in the process of diplomatic efforts to settle the conflicts in Syria and Yemen.
