Iran Condemns Suicide Attack in Afghanistan’s Zabul

In a Friday statement, Mousavi condemned any operation that would endanger the lives of civilians, especially women and children.
Mousavi expressed the hope that all forces interested in the future of Afghanistan would be able to to overcome the current difficult situation without foreign interference and by adopting peaceful solutions.

At least 39 people were killed and 90 wounded in a suicide attack near a hospital carried out by the Taliban in the southern city of Qalat in Zabul province.

At least 95 others have been wounded in the car bomb explosion that the armed group said targeted a nearby government intelligence department building in Qalat, the capital of Zabul province.

A senior defence ministry official in Kabul said the fighters wanted to target a training base for the country’s powerful security agency the National Directorate of Security (NDS), but parked the explosives-laden vehicle outside a hospital gate nearby.

Residents, many of whom had come to see their sick family members, used shawls and blankets to carry the wounded inside the destroyed hospital building, while authorities scrambled to take the worst of the wounded to hospitals in nearby Kandahar.

The Taliban has warned in recent days that its fighters will intensify their campaign against the Afghan government and foreign forces to dissuade people from voting in the September 28 poll. President Ghani is running for a second five-year term.

After months of peace talks in the Qatari capital, Doha, US President Donald Trump last week abruptly called off the talks with the Taliban following the killing of an American marine in a suicide attack.

Speaking in the Oval Office on Friday during a meeting with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Trump said, “We have just sanctioned the Iranian national bank.”
He did not give any other details about the sanctions.
US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told reporters that the bank was Tehran’s last source of funds, saying, “We have now cut off all funds to Iran”.
Asked about the possibility of a military response on Iran, Trump said the United States was always prepared and that a military strike was always a possibility.
Iran has denied any involvement in Yemen’s Sept. 14 attack against Saudi oil refineries, which shook global oil markets and ratcheted up tensions between Washington and Tehran. Saudi Arabia also blames the attacks on Iran.
Trump, who spoke to reporters at the White House alongside visiting Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, has said he wants a peaceful solution to the conflict following the weekend oil attacks. His secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, has called the attacks an “act of war.”

US Finally Issues Visas for Rouhani, Zarif to Visit New York

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi confirmed on Thursday that Zarif was set to leave for New York on Friday.

Zarif said earlier on Thursday that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was trying to delay issuing visas for the Iranian delegation to the upcoming United Nations General Assembly.

“Pompeo tries to dodge US obligation to issue visas for UN delegates by resorting to self-arrogated designation,” Zarif tweeted.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had declined to comment specifically on the case on Wednesday, saying “We don’t talk about granting or absence of granting of visas.”

As the host government, the US generally is obliged to issue visas to diplomats who serve at UN headquarters.

US Yet to Issue Iran President Visa to Visit New York

The US’ move to issue the visas came after Iran complained about the issue, and said it may cancel the president’s visit if the permits were not issued immediately.

Following Iran’s threat, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said he would resolve the issue with American officials.

The long delay in visa issuance comes as Donald Trump has longed for a face-to-face meeting with President Rouhani ahead of the 2020 elections in the US, but the latter has so far rejected any bilateral talks, saying he would be open to a multilateral meeting if the US lifts the anti-Iran sanctions.

Iran Produces Homegrown Vacuum Therapy Unit

Many patients, such as those with diabetes or some who suffer from acute injuries of a car accident, may develop long-lasting wounds that do not heal easily.

The vacuum therapy system helps the medical team expedite the process of treating patients’ injuries. Failure to heal these wounds may require an organ of the patient’s body to be amputated, or even the person may die. Therefore, a device is needed to scientifically cover the wound from the outside to aid skin formation and wound healing. The vacuum therapy device is the system that performs this task.

Vacuum-assisted closure of a wound is a type of therapy to help wounds heal. It is also known as wound VAC. During the treatment, a device decreases air pressure on the wound. This can help the wound heal more quickly.

The gases in the air around us put pressure on the surface of our bodies. A wound vacuum device removes this pressure over the area of the wound. This can help a wound heal in several ways. It can gently pull fluid from the wound over time. This can reduce swelling, and may help clean the wound and remove bacteria. A wound VAC also helps pull the edges of the wound together.

A wound vacuum system has several parts. A foam or gauze dressing is put directly on the wound. An adhesive film covers and seals the dressing and wound. A drainage tube leads from under the adhesive film and connects to a portable vacuum pump. This pump removes air pressure over the wound. It may does this either constantly. Or it may do it in cycles.

The dressing is changed every 24 to 72 hours. During the therapy, you will need to carry the portable pump everywhere you go.

In 2011, officials of Teb Tajhiz Paya Company announced that they have succeeded in localising vacuum therapy technology for the first time. With their efforts, the company has been able to reduce the weight of this portable device from 12kg to 3kg. Using the consumer feedback, they have made the third generation of the product.

Due to the urgent need for this product in the country, while the foreign manufacturers do not agree to sell this technology to our country, it was domesticised by young Iranian specialists. An upgraded version of the product has been released this year. The fifth version of this product with much higher quality will be released to the health network of the country soon.

Given that if some wounds fail to heal, the patient may face amputation and even death, this knowledge-based product has been able to save the lives of over 7,000 patients. So far 2,000 hospital personnel including nurses and technicians have been trained to use the system correctly.

‘All-Out War’ to Break Out in Case of US, Saudi attack: Zarif

In an exclusive interview with CNN, Zarif said Iran hoped to avoid conflict, adding that the country was willing to talk to its regional rivals Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

However, the possibility of a return to negotiations with the US would not happen unless Washington provided full sanctions relief as promised under the 2015 nuclear deal, the top diplomat said.

He again denied Tehran’s involvement in weekend attacks on Saudi Arabia’s oil facilities, which dramatically ratcheted up tensions in the region this week.

Zarif said Yemen’s Houthi fighters, who claimed responsibility for the attack, have stepped up their military capabilities and are capable of conducting a sophisticated operation such as the one that knocked out half of the kingdom’s energy production.

“I cannot have any confidence that they did it because we just heard their statement,” said Zarif. “I know that we didn’t do it. I know that the Houthis made a statement that they did it.”

Asked what the consequence of a US or Saudi military strike on Iran would be, Zarif said, “All-out war.”

“I make a very serious statement about defending our country. I am making a very serious statement that we don’t want to engage in a military confrontation,” said Zarif.

He added that a military response based on “deception” about the weekend attacks would cause “a lot of casualties.”

“But we won’t blink to defend our territory,” he said.

Iran, Austria Discuss Closer Cooperation on Environment

“In Third World countries, sustainable development runs into problems due to governments’ short-term interests. Sanctions have also created numerous problems for Iran’s environment, which have led to unsustainable utilization of the country’s resources over the past 50 years,” said the Iranian official in the meeting.

“Using up almost the entire underground water and meadows for agriculture and grazing cattle has resulted in many problems for wildlife and the environment in Iran,” Kalantari added.

The Iranian official also criticized European countries’ non-compliance with the Iran nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

“We believed that Europe is independent from the United States and enjoys independence of its own, but it was proven that Europe reached a dead end, too, after the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal,” he said.

“It is regrettable that the environment is paying the price for the sanctions [imposed on Iran],” said Kalantari.

“These sanctions will destroy the earth, though people’s awareness has increased a lot and the policies of the Cold War era are no effective any longer,” he said/

Kalantari called on the top Austrian diplomat to have effective collaboration with Iran in the field of energy as well as protecting the flora and fauna. He also said Iran would like to draw on Austria’s experience in that regard.

Scholz, in turn, expressed pleasure over the meeting. He said three Iran-Austria joint cooperation groups working in the fields of water, the environment and tourism will meet in Tehran next week

He added a symposium will also be held with Austria’s deputy minister of energy and the environment in attendance.

He also touched upon certain parties’ non-compliance with the JCPOA. He said he knew that Iran was disappointed with their failure to live up to their commitments. However, he added, Austria is proud of having hosted meetings on the JCPOA and has spent a lot on organizing those events. Moreover, he said, the JCPOA has formed a network of low-level cooperation.

The Austrian ambassador said there are 40 lakes in his country where it would be impossible to even swim four decades ago. Nevertheless, he added, now they contain high-quality potable water. He said Austria drew on technology and regulations to secure that accomplishment and is ready to share that achievement with Iran.

16 Countries to Attend Silk Road Conference in Iran

Hamadan Governor General for Coordination of Civil Affairs, Mahmoud Reza Araqi, says introducing and highlighting the province’s historical monuments is the main theme of the conference.

Our most important goal is to provide conditions for global registration of historical monuments of Hamadan, he added.

“Dr Mansour Gholami, Minister of Science, Research and Technology, will be one of the speakers of the conference,” he said.

“The head of the UNESCO is also expected to attend,” he noted.

Hamadan was chosen as Asia’s hub of tourism in 2018 by the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD).

Hamadan’s tourism potential includes its Imam Square, the Hegmataneh (Ecbatana) historical site, the Pisa Hill, the Hajiabad Hill, the Baba Tahir Tomb, Avicenna’s Tomb, etc.

Some archaeologists believe the city dates back to the Median era.

Iran Falsely Blamed for Every Incident Due to Its Power: IRGC

“Today we have become so powerful that they have to attribute any incident in the world to us, even if it is a lie,” Major General Hossein Salami said in a gathering of people in north-eastern Iran.

“In the battlefront, we have blocked all the paths with God’s blessing, and have not left any way for infiltration,” he added.

“We are not worried about big and small enemies because we’re confident our soldiers, Basijis [volunteer forces], and Guards in the borders are waiting for the enemies with open eyes.”

The top commander said the enemy wants to keep the Iranian people poor and see the country weak. “However, we won’t let that happen.”

On Saturday, Yemeni armed forces conducted a large-scale drone operation on Saudi Arabia’s Aramco oil facilities in response to Riyadh’s years-long military aggression, causing a partial halt in crude and gas production from the world’s top oil exporter.

The US, a major sponsor of the Saudi war on Yemen, used the opportunity to swiftly blame Iran for the attack, a claim sharply rejected by both Iran and Yemen.

World’s Largest Underground Blind Fish Habitat Found in Iran

Two Iranian researchers in collaboration with two prominent German researchers have found a new habitat of blind fish after two years of research. They have also proved the existence of a massive underground aquifer beneath the Zagros Mountains in the west.

According to Mehr News Agency, it is the largest known underground fish habitat in the world, with a length of at least 31 km and a maximum length of 162 km.

It is also the first habitat in the world with three species of blind fish. Only one similar habitat had earlier been found in China.

To date, four species of blind cavefish have been identified in Iran that are unique to the country and do not exist anywhere else in the world.

In research conducted by these scientists in the western part of the country and in the Zagros basin water resources, two species of the four have been discovered while two others had been discovered by foreign researchers in the years before the 1979 Revolution.

Given the high importance of these species, it seems that they should be a priority for the Department of Environment and that the roadmap for the conservation of the country’s species should be modified accordingly.

The results of this international research have been published in a recent issue of the Journal of Applied Ichthyology in Germany.
