Over Half of Iranian Cities Reported Very Few COVID-19 Cases in 2 Weeks

Over Half of Iranian Cities Reported Very Few COVID-19 Cases in 2 Weeks

Iran’s deputy health minister says over a hundred towns and cities across the nation have, on average, reported one or zero daily case of coronavirus infection over the past two weeks.

Iraj Harirchi said the 116 towns and cities where daily infections have almost been nonexistent are regarded as “white” areas.

He said of a total of 436 towns and cities, 127 had two or fewer confirmed cases of daily infection in 14 days.

Seventy-three towns and cities also reported around three cases of daily infection over the same period, he added.

The official said very few towns and cities reported more than ten daily cases over the past two weeks.

His comments came after the National Coronavirus Headquarters divided the country into “white,” “yellow” and “red” areas.

White areas are spots with very few infection cases; red ones are high-risk areas, and yellow areas are somewhere in between.

Haririchi said the policies adopted for towns and cities differ based on whether the intended town is classified as white, yellow or red.

He said the first decision adopted was that holy sites like mosques will gradually begin to reopen and religious congregations such as congregational prayers are allowed to be held in white areas.

However, he added, this easing of restrictions does not mean the situation is back to normal. He urged people to keep observing health protocols and directives. He added if a “white” area changes to a “yellow” or “red” area, for instance, then health protocols for that town or city will change accordingly.

Netflix has signed a deal with mk2 Films, a French company that has acquired all rights to dozens of movies from Iranian filmmaker Kiarostami.

Every year, mk2 Films co-produces many movies and distributes a library of hundreds of films, including many remastered versions of classics by Abbas Kiarostami, Charles Chaplin, Buster Keaton, and more.

Under the new agreement with mk2 Films, Netflix is going to screen a total of 50 movies after rolling out the new content in a number of international markets.

Iranian Firm Develops Advanced 'Fever Hunter'

An Iranian knowledge-based company has manufactured an advanced thermal camera for fever screening in the coronavirus patients.

The coronavirus detection thermal camera, developed by an Iranian knowledge-based company based in the northwestern city of Orumiyeh, can detect fever from a distance of 7 metres with a margin of error of 0.2 degree Celsius.

In an interview with ISNA, CEO of the company outlined the technical features of the thermal camera, offered under trade name Fever Hunter, saying his enterprise mainly works on the electronic security equipment.

“Considering the outbreak of coronavirus, we decided to make modifications to the system of our cameras and improve their efficiency,” Morteza Hosseinieh noted.

He said the cameras of the new screening device have been equipped with a calibration sensor which is normally used in medical sciences, noting that the software and hardware of the devise have also undergone modification.

The fever screening cameras that can detect COVID-19 patients have been manufactured with the integration of a thermal and a night-vision camera, he explained.

The new thermal cameras are capable of detecting the coronavirus patients from a distance of 2 to 7 metres and can measure fever with a margin of error of 0.2 degree Celsius, Hosseinieh added.

Fever Hunter is widely applicable to shopping malls, organizations and every building with a large number of people, he noted.

The CEO said his company is currently manufacturing 15 to 20 thermal cameras per week, saying good support and strong sales would increase the production capacity to 50 devices a week.

The homegrown fever screening cameras can successfully compete with the foreign companies in terms of quality and services, he emphasized, pointing to high customer satisfaction during the trial period.
