Iran’s Leader Says West Failed to Manage Coronavirus Crisis

Iran’s Leader Says West Failed to Manage Coronavirus Crisis

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei made the comment via videoconference at a meeting of the National Coronavirus Headquarters in Tehran on Sunday.

“The West and West-leaning entities wouldn’t like their failure [to counter the coronavirus pandemic] to be seen, but it is necessary to study and explain the different dimensions of this failure,” said the leader, adding nations should be given awareness about this failure.

He said one of the areas where the West has failed to tackle the outbreak is its inability to manage the crisis.

Coronavirus began to spread in the United States and in Europe later than in other countries, which means they had the chance to prepare themselves to counter the virus,” said the Leader.

“However, they failed to as they should, and this failure is proven by the high number of deaths and infections in the US and some European countries as well as the different problems people in those countries are facing such as unemployment,” Ayatollah Khamenei noted.

He said another area where the West has failed when it comes to the coronavirus crisis is the “West’s social philosophy.”

“The spirit and content of social philosophy in the West is based on material things and money, and that is why they disregarded the elderly, sick people, the needy and the disabled in the coronavirus issue,” said the Leader.

Still another area where the West failed in the coronavirus crisis was the domain of “public morality.”

Ayatollah Khamenei touched upon people storming shops as well as some other challenges, saying, “Despite all their claims, the Westerners have failed in this domain, too, and these realities should be explained to the public,” he said.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei thanked efforts by the government and people to tackle the pandemic.

“I thank officials and those involved in the fight against the coronavirus outbreak for their round-the-clock efforts,” he noted.

He also offered prayers to the souls of those who lost their lives to the disease and wished a rapid recovery for those infected.

Ayatollah Khamenei also lauded efforts to produce the medical equipment required to fight the disease.

The Leader also expressed hope that research centres and knowledge-based companies would soon develop a vaccine and medicine for the virus.

He also praised the National Coronavirus Headquarters and the health ministry for their good planning to counter the pandemic.

Ancient Pottery Item Reminder of Unity against COVID-19 Pandemic

Ancient Pottery Item Reminder of Unity against COVID-19 Pandemic

Narges Mombeini has likened those designs to a sign of unity among people to overcome COVID-19.

“Since around 10 years ago, I have focused on re-creating ancient designs and images,” said Mambini, holder of a Master’s degree in archaeology who is also a university lecturer.

“While studying the book ‘The Technique and Art of Pottery’ by Faeq Towhidi, I ran into a page illustrating a clay item with designs similar to the graphic image of coronavirus,” she told ISNA.

“This motivated me to study the exact meaning of the image on that piece of pottery,” she added.

She said the main image on the clay item shows people dancing and joying after reaping their harvest.

“Local harvest ceremonies are usually held in the north and south [of Iran] after the harvest is reaped,” she said.

“The reaped harvest is put in the middle and farmers begin dancing and joying for the harvest they have gathered,” she noted.

Ancient Pottery Item Reminder of Unity against COVID-19 Pandemic 2The archaeologist added the design brings to mind an image where the virus is put in the middle and people are united to defeat it.

“The images of the reaped harvest revived the image of coronavirus in my mind. So, I decided to compare the image on the pottery item to the image of COVID-19 and depict people’s unity to overcome the virus as a poster with a cultural theme,” she said.

She says the earthenware item being kept in the Louvre Museum in the French capital, Paris, was originally dug out at a historical site 150 kilometres from the ancient city of Susa.

“This very beautiful image illustrates humans standing side by side and hand in hand at a local ceremony while dancing; it depicts a sort of gathering held in pre-historic communities to show their gratitude for the harvest they have reaped,” she said.

She says she aims to incorporate the philosophy behind those rituals into the campaign against the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Mombeini, if people today are united like they were in the past, they can definitely overcome the virus.

Iranian Firm Acquires Know-How to Produce 3-Ply Surgical Mask

Iranian Firm Acquires Know-How to Produce 3-Ply Surgical Mask

Sales manager of the Iranian company says the breakthrough in the industrial production of surgical masks has put Iran among the few counties with the machinery manufacturing the highly-demanded medical product amid the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.

Ali Mousavi said his company has recently sold 40 full production lines to the customers, ISNA reported.

Considering the current process of domestic production of 3-ply surgical masks and a scientific assessment of the market, it appears that Iran will soon reach the saturation point, he added.

Pointing to the rising number of orders from abroad, Mousavi expressed hope that his company would soon begin to export the technology under the auspices of the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology.

3-Ply surgical masks are made up of three layers, mainly a melt-blown polymer placed between non-woven fabric.

The global demand for surgical and ordinary face masks has skyrocketed after the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.

Many countries have made it mandatory for all people to use masks in public places.

‘Trump Seeking to Prevent Biden from Returning to Iran Deal’

Trump Seeking to Prevent Biden from Returning to Iran Deal

The Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Iran’s official wire service, has, in an article posted on its website, weighed in on the Trump administration’s policy toward Tehran and the Iran nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). The full text of the analytical piece.

After the United States pulled out of the JCPOA, it adopted the “maximum pressure” policy against Tehran, imposing around 130 cases of sanctions on different sectors in Iran. Still, observers and experts believe although the US policy has created numerous problems for Iran, Washington has also failed to achieve the objectives it pursued via that policy. This comes as US special representative on Iran Brian Hook had, in comments addressing US presidential contender Joe Biden, said, “Nothing will be left of the JCPOA until you return to it.” The remarks show the Trump administration is pursuing the “scorched earth” policy in this regard and wants to turn the JCPOA into a useless agreement.

The comments by Hook suggest that the United States’ foreign policy on Iran has turned into a partisan and electoral issue in the US, and that the Trump administration is seeking to keep the Democrats from taking effective steps to preserve the JCPOA even if they want to.

Joe Biden, the presidential nominee for the Democratic Party, had, in an electoral speech, spoken of Washington’s conditional return to the JCPOA if he wins the presidential race. Biden said the United States’ first condition to return to the JCPOA would be Iran’s renewing commitment to the nuclear deal. He promised his supporters to reinforce and expand the JCPOA in cooperation with US allies.

Biden, the former US vice president, wrote in a tweet last year that Trump’s self-made disaster of unilaterally withdrawing from the JCPOA not only did not result in a better agreement, but brought Iran to the brink of resuming its nuclear program and set the stage for a military confrontation between the two countries.

Following the coronavirus outbreak, he urged the US to ease its sanctions against Iran. He called for the drawing up of a plan through which banks and companies would be able to engage in transactions with Iran. To that end, he proposed that special permits be issued for selling medicines and medical equipment.

Promise of Better Deal Failed

In a statement marking the second anniversary of the US withdrawal from the JCPOA, Biden said recently that the US promise of concluding a better agreement with Iran has failed to materialize, fulminating against the Trump administration’s approach vis-à-vis Iran.

The Democratic presidential contender also said Trump’s veto of US Congress legislation to prevent any military action against Iran without congressional approval shows Trump is insulting the status of the legislature as one of the pillars of the US ruling system.

“One thing is unmistakably clear: Donald Trump’s policy decisions have increased the risk of war in the Middle East,” he said in the statement.

“Back then, he [Trump] promised us a better deal. He hasn’t delivered,” Biden added.
Biden noted that Iran’s nuclear and regional activities have increased.

Brian Hook’s Irony

In response to Biden, Hook said in an interview with CNBC that nothing will be left of the JCPOA for Biden to be able to make the US return to the agreement. Hook claimed the JCPOA was concluded at the expense of losing peace and security in the Middle East. He claimed Iran is using the nuclear deal to increase bellicosity in the region, develop ballistic missiles and move toward missile proliferation. He said the US has taken an extraordinary step to change this trend.

Donald Trump also said recently that Iranian leaders expect US Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden to emerge victorious in the 2020 US presidential election. He said if Biden wins, Iran, China, Japan, Canada and Mexico will gain control of the US.
Rehashing his old allegations, Trump said he believes former US Secretary of State John Kerry wouldn’t like them to reach agreement at this point, and that the Iranians possibly think they can wait.

“Scorched Earth” Policy

Since he came to power in 2016, the US president has made every effort to urge or force the Europeans to withdraw from the JCPOA. Still, after the Europeans rejected Trump’s offer, he unilaterally pulled out of the deal, a move that undermined the JCPOA and triggered doubts about its survival.

The US president seeks to create rifts within Europe and prevent it from remaining united on the one hand, and tries to destroy the JCPOA on the other.
As comments by Brian Hook show, the US seeks to implement the “scorched earth” strategy with regards to the JCPOA in order to make the agreement devoid of its real meaning.

The United States, which is trying hard these days to extend a UN arms embargo on Iran, wants to undercut all provisions of the JCPOA, turn this international agreement into a useless deal all of whose terms are questioned. The Trump administration intends to turn the JCPOA into a scorched deal in such a way that even the future US president’s return to it would be useless.

Iran’s President Offers Congratulations to New Iraqi PM

Iran's President Offers Congratulations to New Iraqi PM

In a congratulatory message on Sunday, President Rouhani expressed hope that the bilateral relations between Iran and Iraq would grow during Prime Minister Kadhimi’s tenure “by the grace of God and reliance on the teachings of Islam, considering the age-old and historic relations between the two neighboring and Muslim countries, and with the support and efforts” from the new Iraqi premier and his government.

The Iranian president hoped for the promotion and deepening of relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Iraq in all fields in such a way that would serve the mutual interests of the two nations and establish peace and stability in the region.

President Rouhani also wished the incoming Iraqi prime minister health and success.

Kadhimi took office after the Iraqi parliament approved a new government on Wednesday following nearly six months of political wrangling.

The parliament approved 15 ministers out of a prospective 22-seat cabinet in a vote of confidence. Five candidates were rejected while voting on two ministers was postponed, leaving seven ministries still empty, including the key oil and foreign affairs positions.

Two previous nominees for the role of prime minister – Mohammed Tawfiq Allawi and Adnan al-Zurfi – had failed to secure enough support among cabinet ministers.

Iranian Scientists Develop Anti-Corrosion Nano Coatings

Iranian Scientists Develop Anti-Corrosion Nano Coatings

The CEO of the nono-technology company says nano anti-corrosion paints are used in various industries such as ventilation systems, metal structures and steel complexes.
“Two years ago at an exhibition in China, we were asked to produce paints that were produced by European companies,” Shahin Asan told ISNA.

“Therefore, we started developing these types of anti-corrosion paints that are used on copper and aluminium.”

He noted that the company has recently been able to develop this technology to produce these kinds of paints. “Currently these paints are imported from the Netherlands and Germany.”

“We hope with the development of the paint, measures will be taken to restrict the import of this type of paint to support domestic production.”

Emphasising that the paints produced have high corrosion resistance, Asan noted the coatings are able to increase the life of structures and reduce maintenance costs.
“Our company aims at producing new and efficient products in the field of paints and coatings using the experience of domestic specialists and researchers. We intend to use nanotechnology to improve the quality of industrial, maritime and automotive coatings,” he underlined.

“In 2019, we produced and marketed about 30 tonnes of nano paint, 10 ton new more than 2018. The boost in production proved the market’s approval of these nano-colours.
