Iran, Turkey to Develop Business Ties in Various Sectors

Chief of Staff of the President of Iran Mahmoud Vaezi says the economic ties between the two countries are of great volume and very good documents have been signed; therefore, it is needed that Tehran and Ankara develop their relations in the banking sector as soon as possible.

He further added that the governors of the central banks of the two countries have highlighted this matter while President Hassan Rouhani and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan have also discussed using national currencies in trade and business.

Vaezi went on to say that expansion of the trade ties was discussed during the Sixth Meeting of the High Level Cooperation Council between Iran and Turkey.

“It is decided that the two countries give priority to purchasing each other’s domestic products. It was also decided that Iran and Turkey talk about bartering goods.”

Chief of Staff of Iran’s President said energy was another issue discussed by the two sides.
Moreover, he said the sides have exchanged views on export of natural gas and petrochemical products.

“A committee will be formed to follow up on these issues. We talked about cooperation in the electricity field as well. About the preferential trade agreement, we decided to show more flexibility to work on 60 kind of goods on both sides,” reiterated Vaezi.

According to him, another issue on the agenda during the meeting was close customs cooperation between Iran and Turkey.

“We talked about using electronic systems to speed up the procedures at customs,” he added.

He noted that joint investment was another issue on the agenda.

“We discussed fhe formation of a joint committee to support Iranian and Turkish companies and mutual investments. We weighed in on rail and road transportation and transit. On the other hand, we reached good agreements on cooperation at borders as well as increasing the number of trucks,” underlined Vaezi.

In a Wednesday message to North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un, Rouhani felicitated him and the people of his country on the 72nd anniversary of the Foundation of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

“I hope that relations between the two countries will further develop in all fields of mutual interest through the will and determination of the two countries’ high officials,” Rouhani said.

He also wished health and success for Kim and prosperity and felicity for the people of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

Day of the Foundation of the Republic is the Republic Day and National day of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, annually held on 9 September.

Following the Liberation of Korea in 1945 by the Soviet and American forces, a communist Soviet military regime was set up in the northern part of Korea. A new Supreme People’s Assembly was elected in August 1948, and on 3 September a new constitution was promulgated. The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea was proclaimed on 9 September, with Kim Il-sung as Premier.

The Day of the Foundation of the Republic is one of the most important holidays of the country, along with the Day of the Sun (birthday of Kim Il-sung), Day of the Shining Star (birthday of Kim Jong-il) and Party Foundation Day.

After independence, Tajikistan suffered from a devastating civil war which lasted from 1992 to 1997. Since the end of the war, newly established political stability and foreign aid have allowed the country’s economy to grow.

Iran was the first nation to establish an embassy in Dushanbe. It was also one of the first countries to extend diplomatic recognition of the newly independent Tajikistan in 1991.

Iran Calls for Global Campaign to Remove US Sanctions

Iran Calls for Global Campaign to Remove US Sanctions

In a Tuesday letter to WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom, Saeed Namaki said it is time for a global call to lift all sanctions to avoid endangering the people’s health.

“I ask you to take the necessary measures to end the unlawful and unilateral US sanctions that have caused the suffering and death of the people of Iran and other nations, and have negative consequences for global health,” read his letter.

In another part of the letter, the Iranian minister added that blocking Iran’s access to global banking channels has damaged the country’s economy and disrupted important trade activities, including drugs and medical equipment.

“This has targeted and damaged the health of the people of our country, especially in the face of the outbreak of COVID-19 disease. In addition to general commitments and multilateral treaties, the US government is required by the interim order of the International Court of Justice to lift sanctions on drugs and medical equipment.”

The minister said Iran has been in a difficult situation in the last seven months, while at the same time fighting against COVID-19 and illegal and unilateral sanctions.

“Therefore, our expectation in this situation is that the World Health Organisation, the United Nations and all international agencies make sure that medicines and humanitarian items are made available to the Iranian people,” concluded the Iranian health minister.

During the visit of the Swiss Foreign Minister to Iran, the issues of Tehran-Washington ties were not on the agenda, Iranian government spokesman Ali Rabiei said on Tuesday.

“Our answer is clear, not only in this case, but also to any other country (with such intentions of mediation): Americans must first stop putting pressure on Iran, and then make the claim of negotiating,” he added in response to a question during his weekly briefing.

Rabiei further went on to say that the Americans committed evil acts such as the assassination of Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, which let the Iranian nation down and increased hatred of the US among Iranian people and the regional nations.

Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis arrived in Tehran this week to hold talks with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif. He also met Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani and Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf.
