In a Tuesday meeting with Norway’s new ambassador to Iran, President Rouhani highlighted the Scandinavian country’s support for the 2015 nuclear deal and its opposition to unilateralism.

He also noted that Norway’s membership in the United Nations Security Council provides an ideal opportunity to strengthen multilateralism and promote global cooperation for peace and stability in the international arena.

Tehran and Oslo have always held amicable and friendly relations, President Rouhani noted, adding, “In their talks, the officials of the two countries have also highlighted the ample opportunities for economic, scientific and technological cooperation as well as the expansion of bilateral relations and interaction.”

For his part, the incoming Norwegian ambassador, Sigvald Tomin Hauge, thanked Iran for supporting Norway’s membership in the UN Security Council.

“Norway has always voiced strong support for the JCPOA, and is one of the parties to the INSTEX financial mechanism,” he stressed.

Hauge finally stressed that Norway has always tried to work as a “reliable partner in multilateralism” in spite of the changes in the international situation in recent years.

In a Tuesday meeting with new Danish Ambassador to Tehran, Jesper Vahr, the Iranian president highlighted the significance of opening of a joint medical and pharmaceutical centre in Iran amid the COVID-19 pandemic, while all countries need to work together in the health and medical fields.

Expressing Tehran’s readiness to broaden economic, trade and technological relations with Copenhagen, President Rouhani said, “Denmark’s stances in support of the JCPOA were constructive, and I hope that the cooperation between the two countries would grow further in various fields.”

Denouncing the cruel sanctions imposed on Iran by the US, the president said Washington is committing the gravest violation of human rights by preventing the delivery of medicine and medical items to Iran for the battle with the coronavirus or by selling arms to certain regional countries for the massacre of Yemeni people.

The president also deplored the US Police’ violence against the people of colour.

For his part, the Danish envoy highlighted the constructive interaction between Denmark and Iran since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1933.

Vahr said Denmark is one of the main shareholders in the Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges (INSTEX) – a financial mechanism set up by the EU for trade with Iran in defiance of the US sanctions – and has always supported the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Denmark has always sought to enhance economic, scientific, and trade relations with Iran from the bottom of heart, the ambassador noted, describing the opening of the joint medical centre with Iran as a sign of his country’s commitment to the promotion of ties with Iran.

Iran Says Ready to Help Settle Armenian-Azeri Conflict

New US Sanctions Not to Affect Iran’s Activities: Spokesman

Speaking in a weekly press briefing on Tuesday, Ali Rabiei underscored the need to respect international regulations regarding the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will spare no effort to establish lasting peace in this region. The Islamic Republic of Iran stresses the necessity of observing and recognizing the territorial integrity of countries in accordance with international law and UN resolutions. We believe differences between the two neighbouring countries have a peaceful solution,” he said.

He added Iran is keeping a close watch on the conflict between Armenia and the Azerbaijan Republic.

“Conflict broke out between Armenia and the Azerbaijan Republic in our region. We are monitoring the recent conflict in the region with care and concern,” Rabiei said.

The spokesman added countries in our region have been living in peace and harmony for centuries, but arrogant powers cashed in on their differences to sow discord among them.

“The Caucasus region has, for centuries, been under the unifying umbrella of the Iranian-Islamic civilization. It has been a geography of coexistence and reconciliation among different religions. Different cultural identities and religions have had a very brilliant history in this region,” he said.

“Since colonial powers began to aggrandize identity differences to overshadow the commonalities that we have enjoyed for centuries, we have witnessed some engineered moves aimed at making the population flee the region and bringing about ethnic cleansing and forcing people into exile, and we are seeing its effects on disputed borders,” he said.

“We believe the Azerbaijan Republic and the Armenian Republic, inspired by the history and era of civilizational coexistence, can reach common understanding,” Rabiei added.

In a Tuesday meeting with new Czech Ambassador to Tehran Josef Rychtar, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani expressed satisfaction over the position adopted by the European Union, including the Czech Republic, for supporting the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and standing up to US unilateralism.

“Tehran-Prague cooperation should further expand without being affected by Washington’s unilateral and illegal sanctions,” said the president.

In the meeting, the Czech ambassador submitted his credentials to President Rouhani and emphasized that Praque is keen on enhancing cooperation with Tehran in all areas of mutual interest, including trade as well as scientific and cultural domains.

Rychtar said he will try his utmost during his tenure to further boost mutual ties. He added the Czech Republic along with other European countries support the JCPOA.

In a meeting with Germany’s new ambassador to Tehran on Tuesday, President Rouhani said Iran had expectations that the EU3 -Germany, France and the UK- would withstand the US pressures and help Iran receive a $5 billion loan from the International Monetary Fund to fulfill its medical, health and pharmaceutical needs amid the outbreak of COVID-19.

Although the IMF’s Executive Board had agreed to Iran’s request for the loan, the US obstructed its payment with adverse interference, President Rouhani deplored.

Hailing Germany’s good stances against the US’ unilateralism in the world, the president said the three European parties to the JCPOA have acted “logically” against the US’ illegal and incorrect attempts to re-impose the cruel sanctions against the Iranian nation and have supported the UNSC Resolution 2231.

Highlighting the age-old and friendly relations between Tehran and Berlin, President Rouhani urged that the economic and trade relations should grow irrespective of the US’ illegal sanctions.

For his part, German ambassador Hans Odo Motzel said Berlin is duty bound to protect the JCPOA.

Stressing the need to enhance cooperation between Germany and Iran considering the current tough conditions, Motzel said he would do his utmost to that end during his tenure in Tehran.

In a statement on Tuesday, Khatibzadeh said the Islamic Republic of Iran considers the deal as a move to help settle the current crisis in Yemen peacefully.

“The agreement showed that Yemen-Yemeni dialogue is the only solution to the country’s current problems,” he added.

He finally expressed hope that the success of this deal and the continued release of the remaining prisoners of war would pave the way for the beginning of Yemen-Yemeni political talks and lead to the cessation of war and aggression in the country.

The warring sides in Yemen reached a “milestone” agreement to swap more than 1,000 prisoners, as part of trust-building steps to revive stalled UN-brokered peace negotiations, the United Nations said last weekend.

The agreement was reached between Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah movement and Saudi-led militants loyal to Yemen’s Saudi-allied former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.

In a press conference on Sunday, UN Special Envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths said he was “personally extremely pleased to be here to announce that you have reached a very important milestone.”

His remarks came shortly after a ceremony held in the Swiss village of Glion, where representatives of both sides agreed to release 1,081 prisoners as the largest prisoner swap since the Saudi Arabia invaded Yemen some five years ago.

In the Tuesday meeting, the president described Tehran-Madrid ties as growing and developing, expressed hope economic relations between the two sides will further expand without being affected by the United States’ unilateral and illegal sanctions.

“Many world countries are affected by two viruses: COVID-19 and the US unilateralism,” President Rouhani said.

“We should all unite and help each other in order to counter these two viruses,” he noted.
The new Spanish ambassador, in turn, said relations between Tehran and Madrid are good, but are not on a par with the two countries’ potentialities, adding mutual ties should further flourish, especially on the economic front.

The ambassador said his country supports the 2015 Iran nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and believes the agreement has no replacement.
He said everyone should seek to preserve the JCPOA, adding Spain as well as Europe back efforts to preserve the nuclear agreement and to see the deal produce the desired results.
