Es’haq Jahangiri underlined one of the key priorities of the country at this juncture is to procure vaccine from internationally recognized companies.

“Despite the United States’ pressure and cruel sanctions, the government has utilized all potential and resources available to meet people’s needs and will spare no effort in that regard,” said the top official.

He appreciated the ongoing efforts and sacrifices made by doctors and medical personnel since the outbreak of COVID-19, expressing hope the vaccine needed by the country will be procured and made available to people in the shortest possible time and with the coordination of the health ministry.

The first vice president instructed the Central Bank of Iran, the Budget and Plan Organization and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to adopt the necessary measures, in coordination with the health ministry, to provide the required financial resources and hold the necessary consultations to provide the coronavirus vaccine.

He also touched upon the potential of domestic companies and scientists to produce medication and vaccine.

“The pharmaceutical industry in Iran is one of the most successful industrial fields which can not only meet domestic needs, but can also bring in a considerable amounts of revenue,” he added.

3 More Iranian Firms to Begin COVID-19 Vaccine Human Test in Weeks

Iran Unable to Buy COVID-19 Vaccine Due to US Sanctions: Tehran

Secretary of Biotechnology Development Headquarters of the Iranian Vice Presidency for Science and Technology said on Wednesday that three more knowledge-based companies will be granted permission in the next Iranian month (to begin on December 21) for the human trial of vaccine for COVID-19.

After passing the human tests, the Iranian vaccines can enter the industrial production phase to supply the domestic demand, Mostafa Qanei added.

He said the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology has sponsored projects carried out by the local knowledge-based companies on the development of seven types of coronavirus vaccine.

Development of another Iranian vaccine, which has recently received approval for human tests, is financed by the Barakat Foundation, affiliated with the Headquarters for Executing the Order of Imam Khomeini, he added.

Qanei finally noted that the Iranian vaccine that is undergoing clinical trials at present is similar to the Chinese-made vaccine, Sinovac.

Iran to Present Four Intangible Heritage Cases to Be Registered on UNESCO’s List

Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Mohammad Hassan Talebian said the meeting will be held online.

“Based on a decision by UNESCO’s Intangible Heritage Committee, the session will be held online due to the coronavirus outbreak,” he said.

He noted the four cases for international registration that his ministry is to present to the virtual meeting include the miniature art, visiting the Saint Thaddeus Church, the art of making and playing the Persian musical instrument of Oud and the Persian Mehregan festival which used to be celebrated to honour friendship, affection and love.

“Given the limited quota of UNESCO, these four cases have been jointly drawn up with neighbouring countries, so that the potential of the shared quota with other countries can be utilized for international registration of the nation’s intangible heritage,” he said.

The deputy minister said the committee assessing the proposed cases for international registration has, in its draft decision, agreed to register the miniature art and visiting the Saint Thaddeus Church on the world heritage list, and suggested the two cases of the Persian musical instrument of Oud and the Persian Mehregan festival be referred to the next meeting of UNESCO’s Intangible Heritage Committee.

Iran, EU Hold Fresh Round of Political Talks

The online meeting was co-chaired by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Seyyed Abbas Araqchi and the Secretary General of European External Action Service.

After reviewing the course of cooperation between Iran and the EU in the past, the two sides weighed plans for mutual cooperation in the future over main issues, such as the challenges associated with migrants and refugees, and the war on drugs.

The Iranian and European delegations also discussed bilateral issues in various sectors, such as economy, trade, agriculture, and transportation.

Furthermore, the two parties talked about and agreed on Iran-EU humanitarian cooperation, including the fight against COVID-19 pandemic and dealing with natural disasters, as well as peaceful nuclear energy.

Reduction of Iran’s Commitment to JCPOA Reversible: President

Addressing a weekly cabinet session of Wednesday, President Rouhani said Iran will immediately resume carrying out the JCPOA if the other signatories return to all of their commitments and make up for the harms to Iranian people.

What Iran has done was a “reduction of commitments in return for reduction of commitments”, the president said, noting that the other sides began not only to reduce the JCPOA commitments, but almost abandoned their undertakings.

“Not only the US, which withdrew (from the JCPOA), but also the remaining ones unfortunately failed to honour their commitments appropriately. They fulfilled (commitments) to a very small extent,” he said.

The president said Iran began a phased reduction in its commitments under the JCPOA after official announcements in five stages at two-month intervals.

“What has been announced and is planned to be carried out in Natanz, namely the installation of new modern IR-2M centrifuges, is not anything new as some Europeans have raised hue and cry and have resorted to clamor. There is no place for clamor,” the president added.

“What we are doing in Natanz today is exactly based on the official announcements made by me, the administration, and the authorities. We had announced that we would reduce commitments,” President Rouhani stated.

Iran has always announced that its decisions to reduce the JCPOA commitments are reversible, the president underlined, adding, “We may even run 10,000 centrifuges now, however, we would easily shut down those 10,000 machines whenever we’d like to. They might be operating today, but we can turn them off in one hour or half an hour. Therefore, they (Iran’s measures) are reversible in the first place.”

“Secondly, whenever the (Group) 5+1 or the (Group) 4+1 honours all of its commitments, we will return to all of our commitments as well. I have already announced that it would take no time for the two parties to return to the commitments. It only needs resolve,” President Rouhani stressed.

On his American counterpart’s decision to pull the US out of the JCPOA in 2018, President Rouhani said it all happened after a “poorly-educated guy with business-oriented spirits scribble-scrabbled a sheet of paper”.

However, he said, the next US president can rejoin the JCPOA. “It just needs a signature. That’s all, and we’ll again return to the first place. No big deal. It won’t take time at all… It doesn’t require negotiations at all. It won’t require anything.”

If the other JCPOA parties, with or without the US, return to “all of their commitments and make up for what they have done against the Iranian nation”, Tehran will return to all of its commitments as well, the president added.

“What the outgoing US administration did was to the detriment of itself, to the detriment of world’s trust in the US, in line with the isolation of the US, to the detriment of the regional nations, to the detriment of the Iranian nation, and to the detriment of regional stability. They (Americans) made a mistake a hundred percent,” President Rouhani added.

“We are ready (to honour JCPOA) whenever they return. We have announced since long ago that there is room for repentance. Whenever they return to the main road, we’ll be ready to return to the previous conditions,” the Iranian president concluded.

Iran Blacklists US Envoy to Yemen for Complicity in Devastating War

Iran Condemns Bahrain’s Plan to Normalize Relations with Israel

In a statement on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs described Henzel as a key contributor to the human crisis in Yemen.

The statement highlighted the US ambassador’s role in leading the destructive war in Yemen, killing the innocent and oppressed people of this country, offering arms, financial and political support for the coalition attacking the Arab country and maintaining cruel and inhumane sanctions on Yemeni people as well as his role in the evil scenario of disintegrating Yemen and taking destructive actions to impede a political settlement of the Yemen crisis, which have perpetuated the human catastrophe in the country as the biggest tragedy of the century.

“In line with the implementation of Note 1 of Article 4 and Note 1 of Article 5 of the ‘Law on Countering Human Rights Violations as well as Adventuristic and Terrorist Acts by the US in the Region’ ratified by the Iranian Parliament on August 13, 2017, and in cooperation with relevant institutions and based on adequate information and evidence that proves Christopher Henzel, the US ambassador to Yemen, played a key role in organizing, offering financial and weapons support, leading and contributing to the actions committed by the coalition attacking Yemen, and also because of his complicity in the violation of basic regulations and fundamental principles of international law, including humanitarian international law, and breach of human rights of the people of the region, he is regarded as a clear example of individuals mentioned in Notes 3-5 of Article 4 and Note 2 of Article 5 of the above-mentioned law, and hereby, is put on the list of sanctioned officials as of the date of the issuance of this statement (December 9, 2020) as stipulated in the above-said law,” read the statement.

“As of the mentioned date, Christopher Henzel shall be subject to the consequences and requirements stipulated in the ‘Law on Countering Human Rights Violations as well as Adventuristic and Terrorist Acts by the US in the Region’ and all competent authorities will adopt the necessary measures to enforce this decision in accordance with the law,” the statement said.

She said so far 765,639 patients have recovered from the disease or been discharged from the hospital.

Lari went on to say that 5,779 patients are also in critical conditions caused by more severe infection.

The spokeswoman noted that 6,523,409 COVID-19 tests have been taken across the country so far.
She said currently 64 cities are in the “red zone”, 278 in the “orange zone”, and 106 in the “yellow zone” in terms of coronavirus outbreak.

Iranian, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministers Hold Talks in Tehran

Extending a welcome to the visiting Azerbaijani diplomat, Foreign Minister Zarif hailed the progress achieved in the course of a ceasefire between Baku and Yerevan, the peace agreement, and an end to the occupation of the Republic of Azerbaijan’s territories.

Foreign Minister Zarif also expounded on Iran’s principled policies on the Caucasus region on the basis of good neighbourliness, and stressed the need for permanent settlement of the crisis through dialogue and political solutions.

For his part, Foreign Minister Bayramov offered his condolences on the martyrdom of Iranian scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh and condemned the assassination of the late figure.

The Azerbaijani foreign minister also expressed gratitude to Iran for its principled policies during the Karabakh crisis and for supporting the termination of occupation, saying Iran adopted a balanced policy towards the Karabakh conflict.

Elsewhere in the gathering, the two senior diplomats discussed other topics such as the expansion of Tehran-Baku relations, mutual cooperation at the international circles, the Caspian Sea, reconstruction projects in the newly-liberated regions, border and security cooperation, the joint projects in progress, inauguration of Khoda-Afarin dam, the Rasht-Astara railroad, the North-South and East-West corridors, convening Iran-Azerbaijan Joint Economic Commission, and other issues of mutual interest.

The foreign ministers of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan also held consultations about the regional and international issues.

Iran Ready to Help Keep Karabakh Peace, Reconstruct Azeri Regions: President

In a meeting with Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijani Jeyhun Bayramov, held in Tehran on Wednesday, President Rouhani highlighted Iran’s clear policies on the Nagorno-Karabakh dispute and its support for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan Republic.

The president also expressed satisfaction with the cessation of a recent war between Baku and Yerevan, the liberation of occupied Azeri territories, and the establishment of a ceasefire.

Pointing to Iran’s proposed plan for the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and deployment of special envoys to Russia, the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia, President Rouhani voiced the Islamic Republic’s readiness to play a “constructive role” in maintaining the truce between Baku and Yerevan and ensuring stability in the region.

Iran is also ready to take part in the process of reconstruction of the newly-freed Azeri lands, the president added.

“Considering the neighborliness of the two countries and the existing facilities in Iran, Iran’s participation and partnership in the reconstruction of the regions harmed by the Karabakh war would benefit the both nations,” President Rouhani stated.

Hailing the brotherly and friendly ties between Tehran and Baku, the president stressed the need to take advantage of the common border to promote the economic and trade cooperation.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to expand relations with the Republic of Azerbaijan, and we hope that the bilateral relations would further grow given the opportunity provided by the new international conditions,” President Rouhani noted.

The Iranian president also noted that termination of US President Donald Trump’s term and formation of a new US administration would create better conditions for cooperation among the countries.

President Rouhani further called for the rapid implementation of the agreements that Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan have signed in the past, such as a railroad project linking Rasht to Astara.

The stage is set for Iran and Azerbaijan to carry out the joint projects that have been already agreed upon, like the Khoda-Afarin dam and the construction of a power plant, the president added, urging closer cooperation between the two neighbors in the industrial, scientific, and pharmaceutical sectors.

For his part, the Azeri foreign minister praised Iran for supporting his country’s territorial integrity.

The Republic of Azerbaijan considers Iran as a good friend and neighbor, as the Azeri president and officials are resolved to boost ties with Iran in all fields, Foreign Minister Bayramov said.

Pointing to the recent liberation of occupied Azeri territories and revival of 132 kilometers of common borderline with Iran, the senior Azeri diplomat said Azerbaijan-Iran boundaries are “border of friendship and development”.

“We believe that revival of these borders could create new cooperation projects for the two countries,” he added.

Stressing the need for the enhancement of political, economic and trade ties between Baku and Tehran, Bayramov expressed hope that the joint projects would be immediately implemented under the new international conditions and the removal of obstacles caused by the US sanctions.

The visiting foreign minister of Azerbaijan finally condemned the recent assassination of eminent Iranian scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, saying the assassination of a scholar and scientist is by no means acceptable.
