One Million Iranians Recover from COVID-19: Health Ministry

In a press briefing on Saturday, Sima-Sadat Lari said the virus has killed 101 patients since Friday noon, the lowest figure reported since June 20, increasing the overall death toll to 55,438.

She said 1,237,474 patients have contracted the novel coronavirus so far, including 6,045 new cases identified in the past 24 hours.

Lari said 4,981 patients are also in critical conditions caused by more severe infection.

The spokeswoman noted that 7,723,377 COVID-19 tests have been taken across the country so far.

She said currently the four cities of Sari, Amol, Ramsar, and Northern Savadkuh are in the “red zone”, 43 in the “orange zone”, and 401 in the “yellow zone” in terms of coronavirus outbreak.

IRGC Chief Visits Persian Gulf Military Base as Tensions with US Rise

Accompanied by IRGC Navy Commander Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, General Salami visited the military units, defence systems, and military equipment deployed in Abu Musa to assess the level of their combat preparedness.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the visit, General Salami said the three Iranian islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb are inseparable parts of Iran’s national independence and the country’s defensive forehead in confronting ultra-regional enemies.

He described the defensive and combat preparedness of the IRGC units in these three islands as reassuring, strong, and unbreakable, and said, “Today we are here to assess and make sure about the preparedness of our power in the sea and in confrontation with enemies who sometimes make verbal threats against us.”

“We would respond with a reciprocal, decisive and strong blow to whatever action the enemy would take against us,” Salami warned.

Salami said the IRGC Navy has in recent years achieved wonderful capabilities and gains, and what we see today is part of those capabilities and power in the sea.

“Among those capabilities is the ability to counter hostile submarines,” he added.

Smart naval mines with amazing operational capabilities, the ability to drop smart bombs from manned or unmanned aerial vehicles which can destroy hostile targets deep inside the sea, and a new generation of Vertical Take-Off and Land (VTOL) drones are among other capabilities of the IRGC navy.

New Coronavirus Strain, Cold Season, Air Pollution 3 Key Concerns: Rouhani

President Hassan Rouhani said these three are major perils for the coming months.

“I ask our dear people to observe health protocols more during these days, so that we will be able to weather these problems,” said the president.

He hailed Iran’s success in containing the spread of the disease, but called on people not to regard the situation as normal.

Among all countries grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic, he said, the countries where people observe health protocols the most and trust their leaders are the ones which are more successful in controlling the disease.

“Fortunately, with people’s good cooperation and thanks to the efforts made by all government bodies, we secured good achievements during the different peaks of the disease in the country,” President Rouhani noted.

“During the third peak of the coronavirus outbreak in the country, we managed to contain the virus sooner than others predicted through the cooperation of all government institutions,” he said.

“Today, except for 4 towns which are in a ‘red’ state, the situation has almost improved across the nation,” said President Rouhani.

“This is while Europe and the US are still gripped by this peak and are seeing a growing number of cases,” he added.

Iran’s Finger on Trigger to Start 20% Uranium Enrichment: Official

Ali Akbar Salehi, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), said the Islamic Republic is able to start the process very soon.

“We are supposed to implement the Parliament’s legislation [on increasing the country’s uranium enrichment], but the government should communicate to us a bylaw on how to enforce it,” he added.

“The president should also issue an order for us to begin the process,” Salehi said.

“Our fingers are on the trigger. The commander just needs to issue an order. Then we can start work immediately,” Salehi underlined.

“[With regards to 20-percent uranium enrichment,] we have given a letter to the representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Vienna to hand it over to the [International Atomic Energy] Agency,” he said.

“The [Agency’s] inspectors should come to Iran and remove the seals [on nuclear facilities],” he added.

“Under the Agency’s supervision, we need to replace the uranium gas capsule,” Salehi said.

Iran Hopes No Conflict Will Break Out Until Trump Leaves Offices

Major General Yahya Rahim-Safavi said Iran is keeping a close watch on the United States’ military movements in the region and Iranian troops are prepared to conduct operations if need be.

“Iran’s military has the Americans on its intelligence radar and is closely monitoring all of the United States’ military movements from the Red Sea to the Indian Ocean to the Sea of Oman and the Persian Gulf and the countries around Iran where the US has bases,” said General Safavi, a military aide to Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

“We know what the Americans’ weak and strong points are,” he said.

“The Iranian Armed Forces have operational preparedness as well,” the general added.
“The Americans know that we have a powerful Leader who ordered us to strike the Al Asad Airbase [in Iraq],” he said.

“They are worried that we might conduct some operations on the anniversary of the assassination of General Soleimani, and, hence, they are on alert and on the defence mode,” the top general said.
General Safavi underlined that Iran is even capable of striking US aircraft carriers.

“We hope nothing will happen until wicked Trump leaves, though Iran’s vow to take revenge for the assassination of General Soleimani still holds in the long run,” he said.

Iran Rejects Media Reports on Death Threats against Trump

Saeed Khatibzadeh warned American media outlets against spreading false reports about Iran.
“Washington Times should know better than to publish #FakeNews & spread anti-Iran bigotry -even though it has featured PAID content by the outlaw MeK terrorist cult. Your readers deserve better!,” he added.

“Cowardice in assassinating foreign leaders is a US-Israeli trademark; NOT Iranian,” Khatibzadeh tweeted.

Meanwhile, Alireza Moezzi, the deputy chief of staff of the President’s Office for communications and information affairs, said the Iranian president would never do such a thing as threatening the life of a foreign dignitary.

“It is beneath the dignity of Iranian president to threaten the life of a foreign counterpart,” he said in a tweet.

“Unlike US regime, Iran does not threaten, nor does it assassinate foreign leaders,” he added.
“President Rouhani clearly said ‘very soon Mr.Trump’s POLITICAL life will be over,” he tweeted.

In a recent report, Washington Times falsely quoted President Rouhani as saying President Trump will soon be dead.

However, Rouhani had said that Trump’s “political life” will soon end.

Senior Iranian Cleric Ayatollah Mesbah Yazdi Dies at 86

Mesbah Yazdi was a prominent cleric, philosopher and conservative political theorist who served as the spiritual leader of the Front of Islamic Revolution Stability.

He was a member of the Assembly of Experts, the body responsible for choosing the Supreme Leader. He had been called ‘the most conservative’ and the most ‘powerful’ clerical oligarch in Iran’s leading centre of religious learning, the city of Qom.

In Qom, from 1952 to 1960, he participated in the courses taught by Imam Khomeini and Allamah Tabataba’i.

Mesbah Yazdi advocated Islamic philosophy and in particular Mulla Sadra’s transcendent school of philosophy (Hikmat-e Muta`aliya). He believed Iranians are moving away from religion and values of Islamic revolution and opposed democratic rule of western country and the west-oriented reform movement.

Iran Wishes ‘Much Better Days’ for All Human Beings in 2021

“Happy New Year,” Rabiei said in a post in his Twitter account on Friday.
“Hoping that in 2021 all human beings around the world would have much better days to achieve equality, peace, and health regardless of nationality, religion, and gender,” he added.

Daily Rise in Iran’s COVID-19 Fatalities Down to Lowest Since September 7

Iran Says Some 260,000 Patients Recover from COVID-19

In a press briefing on Friday, Health Ministry spokeswoman Sima-Sadat Lari reported 6,286 new cases of COVID-19 infection, raising the total number of cases to 1,231,429.

So far, Lari added, 995,570 patients have recovered from the disease or been discharged from the hospital.

Lari said 5,013 patients are also in critical conditions caused by more severe infection.
The spokeswoman noted that 7,670,268 COVID-19 tests have been taken across the country so far.

According to Lari, the four cities of Sari, Amol, Ramsar, and Northern Savadkuh are currently in the “red” zone, 63 cities in the “orange” zone, and 381 cities in the “yellow” zone in terms of coronavirus outbreak.

Iran Writes to Security Council to Warn about US Adventurism in Persian Gulf

The Iranian mission issued a stern warning in a letter to the UN Security Council on Thursday and said the US has ramped up its military presence and activities in Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman in recent weeks.

“In addition to sending advanced and highly sophisticated weapons to the region over the past few weeks, the United States has also carried out some provocative military actions, including the deployment of a number of its long-range strategic bombers in the Persian Gulf in recent days,” the mission said in the letter.

“Such belligerent moves, if left unchecked, could escalate tensions to alarming levels, and it is clear that the United States will be fully responsible for the entire consequences,” it added.

The letter underlined Iran’s determination to protect its people and to defend its security, sovereignty and territorial integrity and noted that the Islamic Republic’s resolve to respond decisively to any threat or use of force against the country should not be underestimated.

The mission’s letter to the Security Council echoed earlier remarks by Iran Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif who said Iran does not seek war but will “openly and directly” defend its people and security as well as its vital interests.

On Wednesday, two nuclear-capable American B-52 bombers flew over the Persian Gulf after nonstop flights to the region from their US-based hangars. It was the third time in six weeks that American bombers were conducting long-range flights off the Iranian coast.

The latest deployments came after the US Navy announced the arrival of a nuclear-powered submarine in the Persian Gulf last week. The USS Georgia passed the Strait of Hormuz accompanied by two American warships, making it the first missile-loaded submarine of its kind to enter the Persian Gulf in eight years.

The region has witnessed escalating tensions since Trump accused Iran of playing a role in the attacks on the US embassy in Iraq late last month, threatening retaliation.

Moreover, the outgoing US president, as political analysts maintain, would barely choose not to welcome the eruption of a limited conflict with Iran as a final recourse to maintain its grip on power at a time that political and electoral procedure has denied him a second term in office after a crushing defeat to his Democratic rival, Joe Biden, in the November 3 election.

Most importantly, the US’s provocative moves in the Persian Gulf region come as Iranians and Iraqis are preparing to mark the first anniversary of the martyrdom of their popular commanders, Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, who were assassinated in a US drone strike in Baghdad Airport on January 3, last year.

The strike, which was directly ordered by Trump, triggered a strong anti-American backlash across the region, leading to growing calls for the US military to end its presence in the Middle East.

Iran unleashed a barrage of missiles on a US military base in Iraq on January 8 as part of its revenge for the assassination. US positions in Iraq have since been targeted several times.

Recently, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said revenge for the Iranian general was certain and would be exacted at the right time.

Iran has also issued an arrest warrant and asked Interpol for help in detaining the US president, who ordered the assassination, and several other US military and political leaders behind the strike.

US responsible for consequences of warmongering moves: Zarif

Meanwhile, the Iranian foreign minister pointed to the “US’s acts of mischief” in the region during a phone conversation with his Kuwaiti counterpart on Friday and stressed that Washington would be responsible for the consequences of any possible adventurism.

The head of Iran’s diplomatic apparatus also told Ahmad Nasser al-Mohammad Al Sabah that the Islamic Republic believes in comprehensive stability and security in the region away from any foreign interference.

The two top diplomats also exchanged views on bilateral relations and regional developments.
