Iran’s Zarif, Ashraf Ghani Discuss Afghanistan Peace Process

In the Tuesday meeting, the two sides discussed the peace process in Afghanistan, the regional issues as well as bilateral relations.

President Ghani appreciated Iran’s position on developments in Afghanistan, and said Kabul stands ready to enhance bilateral relations on all fronts and hold a meeting of the Iran-Afghanistan Joint Economic Cooperation Commission.

Among other topics which came up for discussion during the talks were the future of peace in Afghanistan as well as Iran’s role in helping establish peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Iranian, Tajik, Afghan FMs Discuss Trilateral Cooperation

In the Tuesday meeting, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, his Tajik counterpart Sirojiddin Muhriddin, and Afghan top diplomat Mohammad Haneef Atmar discussed a range of issues.

Foreign Minister Zarif said Tehran attaches great significance to trilateral collaboration with Kabul and Dushanbe to establish convergence and stability in the region, and expressed Iran’s readiness to start cultural cooperation within the framework of an operational program.

The top Tajik diplomat, in turn, paid tribute to Iran’s rich culture, saying the cultural commonalities between Iran, Tajikistan and Afghanistan are a prime example of regional convergence.
The Tajik foreign minister referred to the traditional Nowruz festival, and proposed that joint cultural programs be defined to be run by the three countries.

For his part, the Afghan foreign minister said it’s valuable that the three countries share common views about regional issues, and expressed Kabul’s preparedness to pursue economic, cultural, and political collaborations between the three countries based on a single operational roadmap.

On display are simulated replicas of the black tents of Bakhtiari and Lur ethnic groups, Turkmens’ dome-shaped traditional houses, straw houses in southern Khuzestan province, huts in the province of Azarbaijan, part of the fabric of the Abyaneh village, the ancient cistern in Yazd, the Bam Citadel, the Sa’d-al-Saltaneh in Qazvin, the windmill in South Khorasan province and sabats (passageways built between the opposite buildings on both sides of a narrow street) in central Iran.

Tehran, Dushanbe Discuss Cooperation on Afghanistan Peace

In the Tuesday meeting, the Iranian top diplomat described his earlier talks with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon as fruitful, expressing Tehran’s readiness to further expand relations with Dushanbe.

The Tajik foreign minister, in turn, said the common culture and history that Iran, Tajikistan and Afghanistan share are an invaluable asset for all three countries.

He said his country was prepared to build trilateral economic infrastructure to, among other things, boost road and rail transport capacity between the three countries.

US Has No Way but to Return to JCPOA: Iran

Speaking in his weekly press conference, Ali Rabiei said urged signatories to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to work towards lifting the sanctions.

“The violators of the JCPOA should know that the more they drag their feet with efforts to lift the sanctions, the more distant the outlook for relations with Iran will become,” he said.

“We are confident that the US government has no other logical option but to return to the JCPOA and lift all sanctions, even after the 12th [Iranian] administration’s tenure draws to a close,” he added.

He also noted that Tehran is determined not to allow illegal US sanctions disrupt the trend of Iran’s constructive cooperation with the international community.

He said the administration of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will keep working till its last day in office to have US sanctions lifted.

Iranian, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministers Discuss Mutual Cooperation

The Tuesday meeting was held on the sidelines of the Heart of Asia conference which is underway in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan.

During their discussions, the two sides reviewed the latest developments in the Caucasus region, bilateral cooperation on the Caspian Sea and other issues of mutual interest in political and economic domains.

Iran, Tajikistan Discuss Promotion of Mutual Cooperation

In the Monday meeting, the two sides conferred on bilateral issues and mutual cooperation between Iran and Tajikistan in various fields including economic issues, trade, energy, industry, transportation, science and culture, and stressed the important role of the joint commission of the two countries’ cooperation.

Mutual cooperation in fight against terrorism and extremism, drug trafficking, and other international organized crimes were also discussed in this meeting.

The Iranian foreign minister, along with other top diplomats attending the Heart of Asia conference, also took part in the Tajik President’s official dinner banquet.

Iranian, Indian Foreign Ministers Hold Talks in Dushanbe

In the Monday meeting, the two sides conferred on the latest political situation in Afghanistan and ways for active participation in Afghanistan peace process.

The Indian top diplomat praised Iran’s constructive and effective role in Afghanistan political developments, and underlined the necessity for cooperation among regional countries, especially India and Iran, to consolidate peace and stability in Afghanistan.

The two sides also reviewed the latest status of economic-transit collaborations and India’s preparedness for expansion of trade with Iran.

Iranian, Afghan Foreign Ministers Discuss Peace Process

During the Monday meeting, Zarif reviewed the latest status of Tehran-Kabul collaborations, and said the efforts of certain parties to negatively sway public opinion indicates the dissatisfaction of certain countries and movements with Iran-Afghanistan close relations.

The Iranian foreign minister referred to the removal of certain consular restrictions against Afghan nationals, and said the measures were meant to fight those who smuggle Afghan nationals into Iran.

He also stressed Tehran’s continued support for efforts to clarify the presence of Afghan nationals in Iran.

The Afghan top diplomat, for his part, expressed the Afghan nation and government’s gratitude for Iran’s contributions in containing the recent fires in Afghan customs points.

He described Iran as the closest friend of Afghanistan, and called for continuation and development of Iran’s collaborations and constructive consultations in political and economic fields.

He also expressed Kabul’s preparedness for the establishment of Iran-Afghanistan joint commission in coming weeks.

The Afghan foreign minister also elaborated on the latest political and security developments of Afghanistan, and the two sides exchanged views on the Afghan peace process.

Era of Unipolarity, Western Dominance Over: Zarif

Zarif made the remarks in a meeting with Kairat Sarybay, the executive director of the secretariat of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measure in Asia (CICA), in the Tajik capital of Dushanbe.

In the Monday meeting, Zarif highlighted the significance of Asia and regional countries in the current equations of the international relations.

He also expressed Iran’s support for the reinforcement of CICA and the cooperation of member states, praising Kazakhstan’s role in Iran nuclear talks as well as the Syria peace process negotiations in the format of Astana Process as the only process effective in restoring peace in Syria.

In turn, the Kazakh diplomat praised Iran’s cooperation and participation in CICA’s regional activities, and elaborated on CICA’s upcoming plans including organizing a ministerial meeting and a leaders’ summit of the member states.
