Iran’s security chief to Aliyev: Do not discredit yourself

shamkhani

In a tweet, Shamkhani said Aliyev’s allegations are tantamount to negligence of principles and requirements of good neighborliness.

He also said lying and making baseless claims are not a sign of good-will and prudence.
The secretary of Iran’s Suoreme National Security Council also said leveling such accusations against a country which is recognized by the the international community as being the champion of fighting drugs would have no effect but discrediting the accuser’s claims. Shamkhani urged the Republic of Azerbaijan to be wary of what he called “evils”.

Tensions have been mounting between Iran and the Azerbaijan Republic over the past few weeks. Iran says Azerbaijan has given the Zionist regime a foothold on its soil, which Tehran sees as a security threat.

In response, Iran recently held military drills near Azerbaijan’s border.
Aliyev criticized the drills and claimed Israel maintains no presence in Azerbaijan.

Iran: Azeri president’s new allegations in line with Zionist regime’s interests

The foreign ministry spokesman said such allegations are in line with the Israeli aim of affecting the brotherly relations between the two nations of Iran and Azerbaijan.

Khatibzadeh strongly rejected the astonishing new allegations made at the summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States, calling them fabricated.

The Azeri president claimed that his country had blocked a drug trafficking route from Iran to Armenia and then to Europe.

Emphasizing the leading role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the fight against drug trafficking, Khatibzadeh stressed that thousands of martyrs and wounded Iranians during the past four decades in the fight against this ominous phenomenon is just a part of the committed and continuous efforts of the Islamic Republic of Iran on this path which has been approved by relevant international institutions over and over again.

While emphasizing the strong brotherly relations between the two nations, Khatibzadeh said unfortunately, it seems that despite the private and positive messages received from Baku in different calls, there is an intention on the part of Baku to make baseless media statements, which, of course, will be answered in due manner.

Iran strongly condemns terrorists attack in Kandahar

Here’s the Foreign Ministry statement:

In the Name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful

Once again the enemies of Islam pulled the strings of the criminal Takfiri terrorists and spilled the blood of a number of the oppressed people of Afghanistan during Friday prayers.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry strongly condemns the terrorist attack by the Takfiris at the Fatemieh Mosque in Kandahar which martyred and wounded a large number of worshippers.

The Foreign Ministry offers condolences to the honorable families of the martyrs and the dear people of Afghanistan and it prays for patience and divine reward for the bereaved families and fast recovery for those injured in this inhumane crime.

The Foreign Ministry also warns of plots by the Islamic ummah’s enemies to cause divisions and stresses the need for unity and solidarity among Shias and Sunnis and for rejection of violence and extremism in the name of Islam. This heart-wrenching incident and the past tragic events including the terrorist attack in Konduz highlight more than ever before the need for beefing up security and boosting protection of Shia and Sunni worshiping places and other gatherings in Afghanistan. The Islamic Republic of Iran is confident that our Muslim brothers and sisters in Afghanistan will foil the divisive schemes of their enemies through solidarity، co-thinking and joint efforts.

Salami: IRGC Navy has full dominance over Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz

Major General Hossein Salami said this is something we can be proud of.

Salami made the comments on Friday as he inspected naval units of the IRGC in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.

He described the upward trend of Iran’s defensive capabilities as positive and said, “Our enemies should recognize the offensive and defensive capabilities of Iran and the IRGC and realize that there is no action from any adversary that would not elicit a decisive and harsh response from our side”.

Salami also added that all the missile and electronic warfare systems as well as drones and underwater weapons of the IRGC’s Navy are domestically built.

He said the naval units are highly prepared to confront and rapidly respond to any threat decisively.

The Islamic Republic has beefed up its military might considerably in recent years amid military threats from the US and the Zionist regime. Tehran has warned its adversaries against any aggression against the country, saying such a miscalculation will have dire consequences for aggressors.

Iran Covid-19 daily deaths fall below 200 again

The latest figures released on Friday show that over 11,800 new infection cases have been identified.

Iran has moved past the peak of its fifth wave of Covid-19 hitting the country in the recent months, but the number of deaths is still hovering around 200.

On Thursday, Iran reported 223 coronavirus-related fatalities during the past 24 hours.

Iran, which has accelerated its vaccination campaign over the past months, has so far administered over 70 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines.

Despite the intensified inoculation program, there are fears that a sixth wave of the deadly respiratory disease could be looming.

Based on official figures, over 123,000 Iranians have lost their lives to the coronavirus since the outbreak of the pandemic in early 2020. Many say the toll is higher than the official figures.

Germany lauds Iran’s services to refugees

“We will try to solve the problems of refugees by expanding international cooperation,” the German ambassador stated during a meeting with Director General of the Iranian Interior Ministry’s Bureau for Foreign Nationals and Immigrants Affairs Mehdi Mahmoudi in Tehran.

The German diplomat briefed Mahmoudi on the measures taken by the German government regarding refugees. He said Berlin will do its utmost to remove the obstacles and challenges facing the refugees.

The Iranian Interior Ministry official also told Muzel that the assistance provided by international organizations, the European Union and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is very limited, and the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran cannot solve all the problems of refugees on its own.

Mahmoudi also said protection of displaced people is a humanitarian action and an international responsibility which requires all international organizations to do their fair share.

Iran has for decades been a major destination for Afghans fleeing war in their country. There are currently millions of registered and undocumented Afghan refugees in Iran. The recent developments in Afghanistan have created a new wave of people crossing the border into neighboring Iran.

Second Iran shipment of relief aid in Kunduz

The plane took off from Tehran and landed in Kubduz airport at 13:00 local time.
The cargo contains blankets and warm clothes which will be distributed among the injured and the families of those killed in the bombing.

Previously, Iran sent another shipment of relief aid for the wounded and the families of the victims that included medical supplies.

The bomb explosion happened at a mosque during Friday prayers last week. The worshippers targeted were Shia Muslim.

The explosion killed over a hundred people and wounded many more. The Daesh terror group claimed responsibility for the attack.

Graphic but unverified images posted on social media showed horrific scenes inside the Gozar-e-Sayed Abad mosque, with bloodied bodies and body parts flung across the inside of the building by the explosion.

The Taliban rulers of Afghanistan have pledged to bring those behind the bombing to justice.

The victims of the blast were all from the Hazara minority of Afghanistan. The blast was the worst act of terror against civilians since the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in August.

The Hazaras are viewed as a long persecuted ethnic group in the country.

Dozens killed, many wounded as blast hits Afghan Shia mosque

At least 32 people have been killed and 45 others wounded after an explosion went off inside a Shia mosque in Afghanistan’s southern city of Kandahar, according to public health officials in the province.

The blast on Friday afternoon took place in the Bibi Fatima mosque, the largest mosque for Shia worshippers in the city.

An eyewitness told the AFP news agency he heard three blasts, one at the main door of the mosque, another at a southern area, and a third where worshippers wash themselves.

Hospital sources told Al Jazeera they were inundated with patients, and that based on the number of increasing intakes, they feared a high casualty toll.

Taliban special forces arrived at the mosque to secure the site and an appeal went out to residents to donate blood for the victims.

Taliban spokesman Bilal Karimi confirmed the explosion and stated an investigation was under way, without providing further details.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

Photographs posted by journalists on social media showed many people apparently dead or seriously wounded on the bloody floor of the mosque.

The incident took place a week after dozens of people were killed and more than 100 others were wounded when a mosque in the northern province of Kunduz was targeted in a Daesh claimed bombing.

The Taliban-led government promised a quick response and to hold the perpetrators for the Kunduz attack responsible.

Russia says allies against US military presence in Central Asia

Asked at a news conference about Washington’s intentions of deploying anti-terrorism forces on the territory of Uzbekistan, Lavrov noted, “All our Central Asian neighbors, allies and strategic partners confirm in talks with us that they find such approaches to be inadmissible.”

“I did not hear about this issue and perhaps this question should be addressed to our colleagues in Uzbekistan,” he added.

“I should reiterate that all our friends in Central Asia are telling us that they are against such approaches either from the United States or from any other NATO member state,” Lavrov continued.

The Wall Street Journal reported earlier citing its unnamed sources that Moscow and Washington were allegedly in talks discussing the possible use of Russian military bases in Central Asia by American troops.

However, during a meeting in Moscow on October 12 with US Under-Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov pointed out that Russia was against Washington’s military presence in Central Asia.
