Iranian negotiator says Vienna talks made good progress

He said Iran and the P4+1 group of countries will hold a session of the joint commission of the 2015 nuclear deal. Bagheri added that talks will continue after a days-long hiatus.

Before he made those comments, Bagheri met with the EU’s Deputy Foreign Policy Chief Enrique Mora. Meanwhile, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister and representative to international organizations in Vienna also confirmed the negotiations made progress and their trend was positive.

Iran and the P4+1 group – Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany – are working on Tehran’s proposals laid out in two draft texts regarding sanctions removal and nuclear issues.

They say differences remain despite progress in the talks.

The negotiating sides are trying to revive the Iran nuclear deal, JCPOA, and paving the way for the US return to the agreement. Washington withdrew from the JCPOA in 2018 under former US president Donald Trump.

Iran, Hungary ink MOU on economic cooperation

The MOU was signed during the second meeting of Iran-Hungary joint economic cooperation commission in the presence of Iran’s Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Ehsan Khandouzi and visiting Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto in Tehran on Thursday.

The Iranian minister said on the sidelines of the commission that the two sides discussed cooperation in the fields of water treatment, seeds, power plants, animal feed, construction materials, and joint investment opportunities.

Khandouzi said the volume of bilateral trade currently stands at about $40 million which he said is low.

He added that a customs agreement was signed between Iran and Hungary on Thursday, describing it as a positive step towards the expansion of economic relations.
Khandouzi said his Hungarian counterpart promised to deal with problems facing Iranian businessmen who want to transit goods through Hungarian territory.

The Hungarian minister of foreign affairs and trade referred to the existing capacities for cooperation between the two countries in the fields of construction materials, agriculture and health.

Szijjarto described the negotiations during the second economic commission as successful adding that Hungarian economic agents have identified good capacities in Iran to expand cooperation.

China supports Iran’s positions during Vienna talks

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Thursday told his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir Abdollahian over the phone that Beijing backs Iran’s approach to the negotiations given the positive actions and initiatives of the Islamic Republic.

Amir Abdollahian also thanked the Chinese government’s support for Tehran during the nuclear talks in Vienna, describing the negotiations there as good overall. He however criticized the lack of initiative on the part of the Western parties.

The foreign ministers of Iran and China also spoke over a range of other issues.

Amir Abdollahian deplored the US government and some Western countries over their move to diplomatically boycott the Beijing Winter Olympics. He announced the presence of senior sports officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran along with the caravan of Iranian athletes in this important event.

Amir Abdollahian also voiced his readiness to visit Beijing in the near future.

Wang Yi also thanked Iran for its stance on the West’s action in connection with the Beijing Winter Olympics. He described the relations between the two countries as strategic and announced the Chinese government’s determination to further expand and deepen relations.

Wang Yi also described the forthcoming visit of the Iranian foreign minister to China as an opportunity to advance the common goals of Tehran and Beijing.

The top Chinese diplomat reaffirmed his country’s support for Iran in the fight against Covid 19 until the eradication of the disease.

In the end, Iran’s foreign minister described actions such as the AUKUS treaty (between Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom) as a sign of a severe weakening of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, NPT, through the application of double standards.

IRGC eliminates terror cell in Saravan

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps said the group was attempting to carry out sabotage and terrorist operations when it was destroyed.

The IRGC said four members of the terrorist group were killed and a large amount of weapons and equipment were seized during the clash.

Saravan is located 347 kilometers southeast of Zahedan, the capital of Sistan and Baluchestan Province which borders neighboring Pakistan.

Saudi Arabia says it welcomes further talks with Iran

The top Saudi diplomat said a series of direct talks between Tehran and Riyadh are underway, which have already been officially announced, emphasizing that Saudi Arabia welcomes any talks with the Islamic Republic.

He also denied reports of a secret meeting between Saudi security experts with Iranians on the sidelines of a security meeting in Jordan.

The two neighbors and regional rivals have had no diplomatic relations since January 2016 following the attack on the Saudi Embassy in the Iranian capital Tehran after Saudi Arabia executed Shia Muslim cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr.

The two sides have held several rounds of talks over the past months in Iraq on a possible détente.

Raisi tells West to drop double standards, follow Christ’s teachings

In a meeting with Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto in Tehran on Thursday, the Iranian president said “the double standards of the West are damaging the trust of the people, and we hope that in the run up to anniversary of the birth of Jesus Christ, some Western countries will not only claim Christianity, but also follow Christian teachings.”

Raisi referred to the plight of Afghan refugees saying there are about 4 million Afghan refugees in Iran and they are welcomed, adding that Western countries made many promises to help Afghan refugees, but have failed them.

Raisi stressed that two decades of NATO and U.S. presence in Afghanistan resulted in murder, crime, bloodshed and helplessness of the Afghan people with more than 30,000 Afghan children disabled as a result of the American invasion.

Raisi also called cooperation between Iran and Hungary in the field of terrorism, narcotics and organized crime effective for the security of the region and the world.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran fights terrorism in action, but some only nominally fight terrorism,” the Iranian president said.

The Hungarian foreign minister said for his part that the West and NATO acted hypocritically on the issue of Afghanistan, and now “we are concerned about the huge influx of Afghan refugees”.

Peter Szijjarto also said Iran and Hungary recognize vaccines produced by the other side and from now on, fully vaccinated Hungarians and Iranians will be able to travel between the two countries.

Source: Iran-4+1 talks continue but slowly

The source said the European troika eventually agreed to consider a third draft as a basis for continuing the negotiations.

This comes as the European sides initially rejected Iran’s drafts on sanctions removal and nuclear activities and insisted that only the texts from the previous six rounds of negotiations be the basis for continuing the negotiations.

The report adds that the new text will be prepared from the combination of the first one and Iran’s proposals in its recent drafts.

According to the source, the continuation of the negotiations shows the US, despite setting a deadline and putting pressure, wants the negotiations to continue.

It noted that both the Europeans and the US are interacting well, but they insinuate that the talks are not moving forward and Iran is to blame.

Iran’s Foreign Minister on Wednesday evening told the UN chief Antonio Guterres that the Islamic Republic is seeking a good deal and is continuing the talks to that end in good faith.

Hossein Amir Abdollahian however said the Islamic Republic will not give in to threats over its nuclear program.

Iran has said it will return to full compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal only after all related sanctions are lifted.

“Iran will not provide excuse for continuation of sanctions”

The announcement was made by the director of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Mohamamd Eslami.

He said the Agency’s inspector would answer technical questions regarding the cameras in the presence of security and judicial officials so the case is complete.

Eslami said this is aimed at deriving a conclusion about factors involved in the terrorist attack on the nuclear site.

Eslami added that following these measures, the new cameras will be installed.

The director of the AEOI noted that the remaining issues will be discussed with the IAEA before the end of the year.

Eslami also said the goal is to end a campaign by ill-wishers including the Zionist regime who are constantly trying to make the IAEA worried about Iran’s nuclear activities with their psychological warfare and lies.

The head of the AEOI also referred to the attempts of Iran’s enemies to influence the talks in Vienna between Iran and the P4+1 group of countries by accusing the Islamic Republic of secret activities.

He said, “We will not play into the hands of the enemies who are trying to prevent the Iranian negotiating team from achieving its goal, which is the removal of anti-Iran sanctions”.

Iran, Oman hold joint naval drills

According to an agreement in the joint military friendship committees of Iran and the Sultanate of Oman, the two neighbors’ ninth bilateral rescue exercises were held on Thursday morning, the Iranian Navy announced.

The drills involved the military vessels of the Navy of the Iranian Army, the Navy of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, and Oman’s naval vessels, supported by helicopters from both sides and Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles.

The chairmen of the Iranian and Omani joint military friendship committees oversaw the maneuvers.

Naval authorities say the different scenarios that were designed and carried out during the maneuvers showed progress compared to the previous joint drills.

Iran Covid: Number of vaccines administered crosses 112 million mark

Despite the downward trend in deaths and infections in Iran, authorities say the vaccination process will continue forcefully until the entire population is fully inoculated.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Health Ministry figures on Thursday show Covid killed 63 people in the country in the past 24 hours. The total Covid fatalities stand at 130,946. Since Wednesday 2,500 new Covid infections including 358 hospitalizations were logged.

The total caseload is 6,165,454. The majority of the cases, that is 5,990,897 people have recovered from Covid.

Iranian officials believe a range of factors helped maintain the downward trend in Covid deaths and infections in the country including a fast vaccination drive across the country, unrelenting efforts by the government such as vaccine production and imports and people’s help with the inoculation process.

Also, the vast majority of Iranians welcomed the vaccination campaign and anti-vaxxers are few in the country.

Now authorities have relaxed some curbs put in place to contain Covid. But they urge people to be cautious as the outbreak could surge again.

Meanwhile the number of Covid red zones in Iran is zero now while the vast majority of cities and towns countrywide are marked blue, meaning people in those areas face the lowest level of threat from the Coronavirus.
