Iran secures runner-up at Asian Wushu championship with 15 medals

Iran secures runner-up at Asian Wushu championship

The 10th edition of the Asian Wushu Championship, which began on Thursday with the participation of 247 athletes from 23 countries in Macau, China, concluded on Sunday noon.

The Iranian national team, with these 15 medals, secured second place in the medal standings.

Ali Khorshidi, Mohammadreza Rigi, Mohammad Nasiri, Yasaman Bagherzadeh, Shahrbanoo Mansourian, and Zahra Kiani won gold medals in this competition.

The silver medals were earned by Amirhossein Hemmati, Sedigheh Daryaei, and Soheila Mansourian.

Reza Abdollahi, Mohammad Farhadi, Sogand Sinkayi, Helia Asadian, and the women’s Duelian team (Helia Asadian and Zahra Kiani) won bronze medals at the Asian Championship in Macau, China.

In this competition, China won first place, and after Iran, Malaysia ranked third.

Iranian daily: Tehran should retract all privileges given to Taliban

Taliban’s unofficial envoy Iran

In an article published on Sunday, Jomhouri-e Eslami launched a fresh scathing criticism against the Taliban following a terrorist attack in Ghor province on Thursday that killed 15 people from the Hazara Shia community who had gathered to welcome the Karbala pilgrims.

The daily condemned the deadly attack as “One of the most brutal crimes committed by terrorists affiliated with the self-styled Taliban government.”

“The crimes of this self-styled government are not exclusive to the Shias in Afghanistan. Everyone in the country has been suffering the cruelty and crimes of the terrorist group for more than three years now and is experiencing one of the darkest times of our time,” it deplored.

The article added, “We warn the Iranian officials for the umpteenth time that if they do not come up with a solution as soon as possible, both the Iranian and Afghan nations will have to face very dangerous consequences.”

It argued that the extermination of Shias in Afghanistan is a planned and systematic plot to advance forced migration of the Hazara community.

Jomhouri-e Eslami said there is a clear distinction between the Afghan nation, with whom Iran has historical and deeply-rooted friendly bonds, and the Taliban regime, which has turned Afghanistan into a terrorism center that unofficially pursues an expansionist policy.

Israeli army says missile from Yemen landed deep inside Israel, casualties reported

Yemen Attack Israel

The Israeli military said the sirens that sounded in central Israel were set off by a “surface-to-surface missile” that crossed into Israel “from the east” and “fell in an open area”.

In an update on X, the Israeli military claimed a missile that “landed in an open area” in central Israel, was “launched from Yemen”.

“Explosive sounds heard in the last few minutes” were caused by Israeli systems intercepting the missile, the military added.

The missile triggered air raid sirens in Tel Aviv and across central Israel, including the Ben Gurion international airport, sending residents running for shelter.

The missile landed near Route 1 highway southeast of Tel Aviv and Gezer power plant, with media reports saying dozens of failed interception attempts led to Iron Dome missiles crashing and starting fires in a number of locations.

Videos and pictures posted online showed smoke rising from scrubland near the Route 1 highway after the Israeli military attempted to shoot down the ballistic missile.

An image showed damage to an escalator at a train station on the outskirts of Modiin, some 25 kilometers east of Tel Aviv.

Magen David Adom, Israel’s emergency services, said in a post on X that nine people had suffered minor injuries as they sought shelter.

Hours later, Yemen’s Houthi group announced its forces carried out a “military operation targeting a military target” in Jaffa, using “a new hypersonic ballistic missile that succeeded in reaching its target”.

Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree said the group fired towards “a military target in the Jaffa area in occupied Palestine”.

He added the operation employed a new hypersonic ballistic missile, which reached its target without being intercepted.

According to Saree, the hypersonic missile covered a distance of 2,040km (1,268 miles) in 11-and-a-half minutes, causing two million Israelis to flee to shelters “for the first time in the enemy’s history”.

He warned Israel can expect more significant operations as the first anniversary of Hamas’s October 7 attack approaches.

The Yemeni fighters have been targeting the occupied territories as well as Israeli ships and vessels affiliated with the regime since October 7, when Tel Aviv began a genocidal war against the Gaza Strip.

They have vowed to keep up their operations as long as the regime sustained the war and a simultaneous siege that it has been enforcing against the Palestinian territory.

Back in mid-July, Yemen’s Houthi group claimed responsibility for a drone attack on Tel Aviv, which killed one person and injured at least 10.

It claimed that it used a new drone “capable of bypassing interceptor systems and being unable to be detected by radars”.

Dialogue impossible with West leveling baseless claims against Iran: Parliament speaker

Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf

Addressing a parliamentary session on Sunday, Qalibaf dismissed the Western countries’ allegations against Iran.

He reminded the Western states that the repetition of false accusations against Iran made by the Israeli regime as a notorious liar is incompatible with their call for diplomacy.

“As long as the Western countries keep up with these (anti-Iran) claims, no effective dialogue will be shaped,” the Iranian speaker added.

He also pointed to the relentless Israeli crimes in Gaza and the Zionist regime’s genocidal crimes against Palestinians over the past 80 years, calling for Muslim unity in support of the issue of Palestine.

Describing Gaza as the capital of the hearts of Muslims, Qalibaf proposed that this year’s Islamic Unity Week, which coincides with the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), should be declared an occasion for Muslim solidarity in support of the cause of liberation of holy al-Quds.

At least 41,200 Palestinian people have been killed and 95,300 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza since October 2023.

UAE says will not support post-war Gaza plans without Palestinian state

Gaza War

“The United Arab Emirates is not ready to support the day after the war in Gaza without the establishment of a Palestinian state,” UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan posted on X on Saturday.

In May, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu published online a post-war plan for Gaza, claiming the Palestinians “would enjoy unparalleled prosperity” once it is implemented.

The plan included investments in ports, solar energy, electric car manufacturing and benefits from newly discovered Gaza gasfields. The plan consisted of three stages from an unspecified “victory date” to 2035.

The roadmap said Palestinians in Gaza would run the plan under Israeli occupation, supervised by a coalition of Arab states, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, Jordan and Morocco.

In response, Abdullah had lambasted Netanyahu, saying he “lacked legitimate authority to implement this step or take any similar measures” and making it clear that the UAE was not consulted on the Gaza plans.

“Furthermore, the UAE refuses to be involved in any plan aimed at providing cover for the Israeli presence in the Gaza Strip,” a statement released by the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted.

“When a Palestinian government is formed which meets the hopes and aspirations of the brotherly Palestinian people, and is distinguished by integrity, competence and independence, the UAE will be fully prepared to provide all forms of support to that government,” it added.

In late July, the UAE stressed the need for a “temporary international mission” that addresses the enormous humanitarian fallout of the war in Gaza after the fighting comes to an end.

“Consolidating peace and security and ending the humanitarian suffering should begin by the deployment of a temporary international mission in Gaza with a formal invitation from the Palestinian government,” UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem Al Hashimy told the official WAM news agency.

She added that the mission must put Gaza on a pathway to eventual reunification with the occupied West Bank under the rule of the Palestinian Authority.

More than 41,200 Palestinians have been killed and over 95,300 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza as the devastating offensive approaches its one-year anniversary. The war followed the October 7 attacks by Hamas in southern Israel, which killed 1,200 people.

Help 2m displaced people in Gaza ‘before it’s too late’: Government Media Office

Gaza War

The office said it is making an urgent plea for help with the beginning of autumn and the possibility of experiencing dipping temperatures and “difficult weather conditions”.

“More than 74 percent of the tents of those who are internally displaced are not safe or suitable for use,” it added.

The teams said, as reported by the office, that “100,000 out of 135,000 tents need immediate replacement due to wear and tear” because they “are made of wood, nylon, and fabric, and have deteriorated due to the sun’s heat and the harsh climate conditions in Gaza. After 11 continuous months of displacement, they are now completely unusable under these inhumane conditions”.

The statement cited Israel’s closure of crossings has prevented “the entry of around 250,000 tents and caravans into the Gaza Strip under this dire situation”.

The Office urged the international community, countries, international, UN and Arab organizations to provide immediate relief to 2 million displaced people “who are in urgent need of adequate shelter to protect them from the winter cold and summer heat, by pressuring the occupation to stop the crime of genocide against our Palestinian people in Gaza”.

The Office warned of a “real humanitarian disaster with the arrival of winter, which threatens to leave 2 million people homeless.”

Despite a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire, Israel has continued its offensive on the Gaza Strip following an attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on last Oct. 7.

More than 41,000 people, mostly women and children, have been killed and over 95,000 injured, according to local health authorities.

An ongoing blockade of Gaza has led to severe shortages of food, clean water, and medicine, leaving much of the region in ruins.

Iran’s Russia envoy says US to lose its psychological war

RT

He spoke to RT on Saturday, a day after the US slapped new sanctions on the news channel. The US State Department has claimed RT funds “proxies” engaged in “covert influence activity” in Africa, Germany, France, and Argentina, among other places.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken also claimed that RT is functioning as a de facto arm of Russia’s intelligence services.

Jalali said the US is not new to waging “psychological wars”.

“The Americans have two methods. One of them is the psychological method, which is accusation. They try to accuse the media, countries, organizations, and groups, that don’t work in Washington’s interests. They try to break their dignity.”

The second is imposing sanctions. “We, the Iranians have been familiar with these methods for 45 years, and know that the Americans accuse untruthfully,” he added.

The US has had sanctions on Iran in place since the Islamic Revolution of 1979, with its blacklist now including around 5,000 Iranian individuals and entities. The measures are surpassed only by those imposed on Russia.

Jalali also rebuked Washington for trying to blame Russian media for meddling in the 2024 US presidential election cycle.

“The point of the media presence is to clarify events, so it’s laughable to say that a media has interfered in an issue. It’s obvious that you should report the facts about the elections, any country’s situations and any society.”

“The Americans are trying to defame everyone – the media, countries and groups that don’t stand for their interests. But today everyone knows this trick by the Americans. They will not be successful,” he concluded.

Earlier this month, US authorities announced sanctions targeting Russian media figures, including RT executives, saying that it was acting to counter “malign influence operations” conducted on American soil ahead of the November presidential vote.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has described the new sanctions against RT as “xenophobia, racism, and Nazism in its purest form”.

The new round of US sanctions against Russian media outlets amounts to a declaration of an “information war”, Zakharova told RT.

“The degree of aggression with which all of this was expressed is off the scale. I think this is definitely a declaration of information war. It went on behind the scenes through the sanctions policy, but there was no declaration that the Russian media would now be openly attacked,” Zakharova stated.

The latest attack on Russian media is part of a broader, deeply Russophobic, and supremacist campaign against the country, the spokeswoman stressed, drawing parallels between the present-day US and Nazi Germany.

She had accused Washington of trampling on freedom of speech and democracy.

G7 condemns Iran’s “transfer of ballistic missiles to Russia”

G7

“Iran must immediately cease all support to Russia’s illegal and unjustifiable war against Ukraine and halt such transfers of ballistic missiles, UAVs (drones) and related technology, which constitute a direct threat to the Ukrainian people as well as European and international security more broadly,” the G7 ministers said in a statement.

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to hold Iran to account for its unacceptable support for Russia’s illegal war in Ukraine that further undermines global security. In line with our previous statements on the matter, we are already responding with new and significant measures,” they added.

Italy currently holds the presidency of the G7 group of wealthy nations which also includes the United States, Japan, Germany, Britain, France and Canada.

On Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stressed that Tehran did not supply Moscow with ballistic missiles, despite what the “sanctions addicts” in the West claim.

In a post on X, Araghchi said that the US and its allies were acting “on false intelligence and false logic.”

“Iran has NOT delivered ballistic missiles to Russia. Period,” he wrote. “Sanction addicts should ask themselves: how is Iran able to make and supposedly sell sophisticated arms?”

“Sanctions are not the solution but part of the problem,” he concluded.

Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov has also stressed recent deliberations about alleged deliveries of weapons to Russia from abroad are groundless.

“We hear about a lot of allegations regarding some kind of supplies of some kind of weapons to Russia, but they are groundless,” Peskov told journalists on Thursday commenting on US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s recent statement that Iran had been allegedly supplying Russia with missiles.

“We are developing our relations with a number of countries, we are cooperating in various spheres, and we will continue this cooperation in the interests of all involved countries,” he added.

Netanyahu plans ‘broad’ raid on Lebanon: Report

Lebanon Hezbollah

Israel is “on the verge of a broad and strong operation on the northern front”, it quoted the official as saying.

“No date has yet been set but it is expected in the near future,” the report added.

Israel’s cabinet is expected to meet this week to discuss the situation.

The Kan public broadcaster reported that Netanyahu believes a full-scale war in Lebanon won’t diminish Israel’s military pressure on Hamas in the Gaza Strip. However, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant disagrees and has stated forces will need to be redeployed from the war-battered Palestinian territory.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah’s second-in-command warned a full-scale war launched by Israel aimed at returning 100,000 displaced people to their homes near Lebanon’s border would instead displace “hundreds of thousands” more.

In a speech in Beirut, Naim Qassem said: “We have no intention of going to war as we consider that this would not be useful. However, if Israel does unleash a war, we will face up to it – and there will be large losses on both sides.

“If they think such a war would allow the 100,000 displaced people to return home, … we issue this warning: Prepare to deal with hundreds of thousands more displaced,” he added.

The comments come after Gallant recently stated Israel is determined to restore “security” to its northern front and “we are preparing for anything that may happen”.

Hezbollah and Israel have been exchanging deadly fire since early October last year, shortly after the regime launched the genocidal war against the besieged enclave following a surprise operation by Hamas.

The Lebanese group has vowed to keep up its retaliatory attacks as long as the Israeli regime continues its Gaza war, which has so far killed more than 41,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children.

Hezbollah officials have repeatedly stressed they do not want a war with Israel while stressing that they are prepared in case it occurs.

Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah has stressed that Hezbollah is undaunted by the prospect of conflict with Israel. The secretary-general of the movement pledged formidable retaliation in case of a potential invasion of Lebanon by the Zionist regime.

Last month, the Lebanese group fired more than 320 Katyusha rockets at 11 Israeli military bases and barracks in the occupied territories in retaliation for senior commander Fuad Shukr’s assassination in Beirut.

Hezbollah said it targeted military bases to “facilitate the passage of drones” towards their desired targets deep inside the occupied territories.

“All offensive drones were launched at specific times from all of their sites”, and that they crossed the border into the occupied territories “towards their intended targets from multiple routes”, it added.

Following the attack, Nasrallah said Israel has crossed “all redlines” in aggression against Southern Beirut, adding that the group will decide on more retaliatory strikes against the Zionist regime in the future.

He warned that while the Lebanese group had no intention to use precision missiles in the attack, it may use them in the near future.

Two Israeli wars waged against Lebanon in 2000 and 2006 were met with strong resistance from Hezbollah, resulting in the retreat of the regime in both conflicts.

Thousands protest in Tel Aviv for ceasefire

Israel Protest

The protesters gathered outside army headquarters and other government buildings on Saturday, chanting slogans against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and urging him to reach a deal with the Palestinian group Hamas to ensure the return of about 100 captives still held in the war-battered strip.

Mass protests have been renewed in Israel in the past two weeks after the bodies of six captives were recovered from Gaza. An estimated 750,000 people attended last weekend’s rally.

Families of the captives who participated in Saturday’s rally said they are frustrated over the government’s failed negotiations to bring the captives home. Many blamed Netanyahu for not reaching a deal because they believe it will help him remain in power as long as the war lasts.

“This deal-sabotaging government is forsaking the captives and abandoning them to die,” said Yotam Cohen, the brother of Nimrod Cohen, an Israeli soldier held captive in Gaza.

“As long as Netanyahu is in power, this war will go on indefinitely and there will be no hostage deal. To save the hostages lives, Netanyahu must be replaced,” Cohen told The Associated Press news agency.

According to reports, the Israeli public has become increasingly frustrated with Netanyahu.

The uproar in Israel over the deaths of the six captives intensified after the Israeli military released a video of a Gaza tunnel where it said their bodies were found. The video shows a narrow passageway with no bathroom and poor ventilation.

Naama Weinberg, cousin of one of the killed captives Itay Svirsky, stated that the public was “horrified” by “the abysmal, inhuman conditions our hostages who are held in the Hamas tunnels are enduring”.

“They are dying, locked up in small unventilated cells, in tunnels deep underground with no air, malnourished, without seeing the light of day for 11 months,” Weinberg was quoted as saying by AP.

Hamas-led fighters killed over 1,200 people and took nearly 250 captive during their attacks in southern Israel on October 7. Israel’s war on Gaza has since killed more than 41,000 Palestinians and displaced almost its entire 2.3 million population.
