Iran dismisses any demographic change in Palestine

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi

The Iranian foreign minister delivered a speech to an extraordinary ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) about Gaza, held in Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah on Friday.

What follows is the text of his speech:

Your Excellency, Mr. Brahim Taha, the Secretary General

Your Excellency Mr. Lejeune Mbella, Chair of the OIC Ministerial Council

Distinguished Ministers,

At the outset, I would like to thank the Secretary-General for organizing this meeting at this critical moment. I would also like to express my gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for hosting this meeting in light of the unspeakable pain and suffering endured by the people of Gaza as the result of 16 months long genocidal campaign in Gaza.

The situation in Palestine, particularly in the Gaza Strip, is a matter of profound concern. This crisis is not only a humanitarian disaster but also a grave injustice to a nation that has been systematically deprived of its fundamental rights and human dignity for over seven decades, subjected to relentless aggression and occupation.

The Zionist regime, emboldened by unwavering and unconditional support of the United States and its Western allies, has committed unimaginable atrocities that mark all major international crimes including war crimes, crimes against humanity, ethnic cleansing, racial discrimination, and genocide. Unfortunately, the regime continues to enjoy impunity, evading the consequences of its blatant violations of international law.

Dear Colleagues,

We strongly reject and condemn the recent plan by the US Administration to forcibly relocate the population of Gaza and assert control over their land as a clear violation of international law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention and stress that any measure aimed at altering the demographic and cultural fabric of the occupied Palestine is inadmissible and contrary to the principles of justice and international law. Iran also expresses its deep concern over the political and humanitarian implications of such actions for the region and the world. It simply adds insult to the injuries of the present generation, while guarantees an ever-lasting grief for generations to come.

Developments in Gaza clearly manifested US complicity in the crimes committed by the Zionist regime. Regrettably, the United States has once again chosen to turn a blind eye to the root causes of the crisis, prioritizing its strategic alliance with the Israeli regime over the fundamental principles of justice and human rights. By providing military, financial, and diplomatic support to Israel, the US is complicit in all the ongoing war crimes committed against the Palestinian people.

Palestinians have an inherent and inalienable right to defend themselves and resist occupation and aggression. This right is enshrined in international law and does not require the approval of any external power. However, most Western states not only deny such legitimate right of the Palestinian resistance groups to self-defense but actively justify Israel’s crimes under the false pretext of “self-defense.” The international community must reject these misleading narratives and recognize that Palestinian resistance groups—established to fight occupation, apartheid and aggression- are legitimate actors under international law. The hypocrisy of the so-called champions of human rights, who are also enabling war criminals, is both alarming and inconceivable.

Moreover, given the vicious statements made by some political officials of the Zionist regime about the extermination of the Palestinians or their proposal to target Gaza with a nuclear bomb, the international community must compel the Israeli regime -as an entity with a vast arsenal of weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons- to adhere to international disarmament treaties and comply with non-proliferation norms.

Mr. Chairman,

Building on the previous OIC actions on Gaza, this meeting must produce a bold and comprehensive roadmap that matches the gravity of the crisis. This is high time to ensure that our words are backed by concrete actions. We believe that to compel this regime to stop its crimes against the innocent people of Gaza and other nations in our region, and as a practical and immediate measure, collective sanctions against Israel should be imposed. Besides, all corporations and entities that directly or indirectly support and sustain the Israeli occupation and crimes must also be targeted by sanctions, and their operations must be halted, at least within the OIC member states. The Secretariat should be mandated to support developing a list of such entities that are active in our member countries.

Meanwhile, to make it clear that Muslim countries fully reject any attempt to further displace Palestinians from their ancestral land, we need to mandate the OIC office in New York to table a draft resolution for consideration and adoption by the UNGA to denounce and reject any such plan that call for further displacement of Palestinians.

Dear sisters and brothers,

Urgent delivery of humanitarian aid to alleviate Palestinian suffering, should be accompanied with creation of an OIC-led Gaza reconstruction international campaign to finance the rebuilding of homes, hospitals, and essential infrastructure. Implementation of an economic recovery program for Palestine, especially Gaza, would further support the dignified and unconditional return of all Palestinian refugees to their homes.

Given the Israeli regime’s persistent defiance of the UN Charter, its designation of the UN Secretary-General as persona non grata, the complete obstruction of UNRWA’s operations, and the unprecedented tragic loss of hundreds of UN staff in Palestine, it is imperative to continue our endeavors for Israeli regime’s expulsion from the United Nations. The only apartheid regime of the 21st century that systematically undermines international law, disregards UN resolutions, and commits crimes such as war crimes, genocide, and ethnic cleansing should not be afforded legitimacy within this body. We should also lend our support to all the initiatives inside and outside the UN system targeting Israeli regime’s criminal acts.

Last but not least, establishing an International Gaza Victims’ Remembrance Day would serve as a powerful reminder of the suffering endured by the people of Gaza, ensuring that their struggles against Israeli crimes will not be faded away. Such a day would honor the victims and keep the ongoing plight of the Gazans alive in the global memory and human conscience.

Mr. Chairman,

The uncompromising support of the government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the cause of Palestine is indisputable and our steadfast commitment will not wither away under any circumstances. While the Islamic Republic of Iran supports the present resolution, and without prejudice to the foregoing, it would like to put on record the following reservations on the content of the outcome of this meeting, details of which will be communicated later with the Secretariat:

1. With due respect to the views of some brotherly countries on the two-state solution, the I.R. Iran maintains its view that this solution will not lead to the realization of the right of the Palestinian people. In our view, “one democratic state” representing all the original inhabitants of Palestine is the only viable solution. As such we dissociate our self from any reference to the concept in the resolution.

2. Besides, joining the agreement on the outcome adopted by this session shall not explicitly or implicitly be construed in one way or another as recognition of the Israeli Zionist regime.

3. Similar to all peace loving people, the people of Palestine are entitled to all necessary means in exercising their inalienable right to self-determination and making themselves liberated from the foreign colonial occupation. Having in mind the brutality of the Israeli occupying forces, nothing should circumvent such a right. This is also our common duty according to international law to render support to such aspiration. We extend our support to any Palestinian national unity agreement that is reached and agreed by the people of Palestine.

In conclusion, we earnestly hope that this auspicious meeting will inspire the international community to take meaningful action to advance justice and peace for the people of Palestine. May this gathering be a renewed commitment to their honorable cause.

Thank you.

Source to al-Mayadeen: Iran will not hold talks with US under Trump’s conditions

Iran US Flags

Al-Mayadeen news channel quoted a “high-ranking Iranian diplomatic source” as saying that Iran has informed Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov that Tehran will not hold talks with Washington under US President Donald Trump’s conditions.

The source added that Iran however welcomed the Russian initiative to advance negotiations over the issue.

Earlier, Russia said it’s ready to mediate talks between Iran and the US. But this comes as US officials including Trump himself have intensified pressures against Iran.

Their pressures, including the reinstatement of the so-called ‘maximum pressure policy,’ appear to be aimed at forcing Iran to come to the negotiating table.

Tehran has repeatedly said it’s open to talks with all sides, but will not negotiate under pressure and at a time when the US openly threatens the Islamic Republic.

3 Palestinians killed in Israeli attack on southern Gaza despite ceasefire

Gaza War

Medical sources told Anadolu that the Israeli army killed three Palestinians in an attack on the Abu Halaweh area, east of Rafah city in southern Gaza. Eyewitnesses confirmed that the attack was carried out by an Israeli drone.

They also reported that Israeli military vehicles stationed along the Philadelphi Corridor on the Gaza-Egypt border opened fire toward Palestinian homes in southern and central Rafah.

Additionally, an Israeli tank fired a sound bomb at homes in the Al-Salam neighborhood in eastern Rafah.

Further reports from eyewitnesses indicated that Israeli army vehicles positioned near the eastern border of Gaza City opened intensive fire.

Separately, seven Palestinians were injured when an Israeli drone targeted a bulldozer clearing debris from a destroyed home in the town of Beit Hanoun, northern Gaza.

A medical source told Anadolu that the wounded were transferred to Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza.

This came amid ongoing Israeli escalation and incursions into various parts of the Gaza Strip, resulting in further civilian casualties.

A ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement has been in place in Gaza since Jan. 19, halting Israel’s brutal war, which has killed nearly 48,500 Palestinians, most of them women and children, and left the enclave in ruins.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its military campaign.

US maximum pressure against Tehran tantamount to crime against humanity: Iranian spokesperson

In a statement on Friday, Baqaei described the hostile statements of the US treasury secretary regarding the continuation of the maximum pressure policy against the Iranian people as a clear sign of the continued enmity of the US policymakers towards the Iranian nation.

He said the remarks are a clear admission, on the part of the US officials, to breaking the law and committing crime against humanity.

Referring to the failure of the policy of pressure and intimidation against the Iranian people in different periods, the spokesman said it is a mistake to test the one who has been tested.

The US policymakers are not going to reach a different conclusion than what they have reached so far by repeating incorrect policies, he noted.

Baqaei stressed that Iran’s approach to international diplomacy is based on logic and mutual respect to ensure the legitimate and legal interests of the Iranian people, adding that any behavior or speech that is not consistent with this approach is rejected.

He noted that the policy of pressure and intimidation against the Iranian nation is a clear violation of the principles and purposes of the UN Charter and international law and subject to international responsibility of the US government.

Baqaei concluded that the Iranian nation will continue to strengthen its capacities in various fields and will respond to any illegal and inhumane pressure with resistance and perseverance.

Russia may consider conditional truce in Ukraine: Bloomberg

Russia Ukraine War

Russian and U.S. officials met in Saudi Arabia for preliminary talks regarding ending Russia’s war against Ukraine and restoring bilateral relations. Russian officials have repeatedly offered ultimatums to Ukraine rather than concessions for negotiations.

Russia is open to a temporary peace settlement in Ukraine if progress will be made towards a final peace plan, Bloomberg reported citing people familiar with the matter.

The Kremlin insists on organizing the framework of a potential peacekeeping mission in Ukraine. This includes deciding what countries would take part in a peacekeeping force, a person familiar with the topic told Bloomberg.

Russia first voiced its openness to a conditional truce at the Saudi Arabia summit between top U.S. and Russian officials, various people told Bloomberg asking not to be named.

For armed fighting to stop there needs to be a clear understanding of a final peace plan, it’s structure, and its principles, two people with an understanding of the matter said to Blooomberg.

President Volodymyr Zelensky has proposed a truce in the sky and sea as well as prisoner of war (POWs) releases as a first step to establishing peace.

U.S. and Ukrainian officials are due to meet in Saudi Arabia in the coming days following a White House meeting between Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump that ended with a heated arguement between the two leaders.

Trump has said he is considering implementing sweeping sanctions and tariffs against Russia until a ceasefire and peace plan is reached.

The U.S. leader also accused Ukraine of being more difficult to deal with than Russia, despite acknowledging “Russia is bombing the hell out of Ukraine.”

Iran voices deep concern over Syria clashes, urges security for all

Esmail Baghaei

Reacting to reports of violence and insecurity in different parts of Syria, Baqaei said on Friday that Iran is closely monitoring the internal developments in Syria with great concern.

He underscored the principled stance of Iran on the need to maintain security and stability in Syria and create the necessary conditions for all ethnic groups and strata of the Syrian society to live peacefully together, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

He also stressed the need to preserve the territorial integrity and unity of Syria, especially against the acts pf aggression and threats by the occupying Zionist regime.

The spokesman also reminded Syria’s interim government of its responsibilities in ensuring the security of all Syrian citizens, saying Iran strongly opposes insecurity, violence, killing, and harming innocent Syrian people from any ethnic group and tribe.

Tehran considers such violence to be a catalyst for the spread of instability in the region and more seditious acts by the third parties, especially the Zionist regime, he added.

Iranian newspaper criticizes Russia’s patronizing stance, questions silence of officials

The Tehran-based paper condemned such statements as a blatant insult to Iran’s sovereignty, emphasizing that Iran, with its rich civilizational history and independence, is more than capable of making its own decisions without external interference.

The editorial highlighted the chaotic state of the Middle East, attributing the region’s instability to the meddling of Western and Eastern powers.

It expressed dismay that despite Iran’s stature as a culturally rich and intelligent nation, foreign leaders feel entitled to dictate terms and outcomes regarding its affairs.

The newspaper also questioned the silence of Iranian officials in response to Russia’s patronizing behavior, noting that Iran has tested Russia’s reliability over the past 45 years and found it consistently lacking.

It urged Iranian policymakers to focus on two critical domestic priorities: addressing public discontent and strengthening foreign policy.

The editorial said that if Iran resolves its internal challenges, no foreign power would dare to undermine its sovereignty or destabilize the region.

It called for an end to reliance on external actors, emphasizing self-reliance and national unity as the path to stability and respect.

Trump says he considers sanctioning Russia over Ukraine war

According to Trump, his statement is based on the fact that Russia “is absolutely ‘pounding’ Ukraine on the battlefield” – a possible reference to Russia’s recent advances in Kursk Oblast or Russia’s large-scale missile and drone attack on Ukraine on Friday.

“Based on the fact that Russia is absolutely ‘pounding’ Ukraine on the battlefield right now, I am strongly considering large-scale banking sanctions, sanctions, and tariffs on Russia until a ceasefire and final settlement agreement on peace is reached,” Trump wrote on the Truth Social media platform.

“To Russia and Ukraine, get to the table right now, before it is too late. Thank you!”

Russian forces have reportedly made a breakthrough south of the Ukrainian-held town of Sudzha in Russia’s Kursk Oblast, potentially threatening to cut off some of the Ukrainian positions in the region.

A Ukrainian soldier and a medic deployed in Kursk Oblast, who spoke to the Kyiv Independent on condition of anonymity, confirmed the Russian breakthrough in the embattled region on Friday.

Russia is also pushing in the Pokrovsk and Toretsk sectors in Donetsk Oblast, with a total of 146 clashes recorded across the front line over the past day, Ukraine’s General Staff announced on Friday.

Meanwhile, Russia launched another large-scale aerial attack on Ukraine overnight on Friday, launching 67 missiles of various types and 194 drones. Ukraine’s air defenses intercepted 34 missiles and 100 drones, the Air Force added.

Shortly after his inauguration, Trump threatened to impose tariffs and sanctions on Russia to force their hand in negotiations, saying “we can do it the easy way or the hard way.” In the following weeks, Trump instead lashed out at Ukraine, claiming President Volodymyr Zelensky was “not ready for peace” and halting military aid to Ukraine and intelligence sharing with Kyiv.

Earlier this month, Reuters reported that Washington is preparing a proposal to potentially ease sanctions on Moscow as Trump works to restore diplomatic ties and negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine.

U.S. and Ukrainian delegations are planning to meet in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on March 11 to discuss the framework for a potential peace agreement.

Zelensky has proposed a “truce in the sky” banning missiles, long-range drones, and bombs targeting civilian infrastructure, as well as a “truce at sea” as the first steps towards the de-escalation.

Yemen’s Houthis give Israel ultimatum over Gaza aid blockade

The ultimatum, issued late on Friday, signals a possible escalation from the rebel group after their attacks tailed off in January following a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

“We give the entire world notice: We are granting a four-day deadline,” the group’s leader, Abdel-Malik al-Houthi, said in a video statement.

“This deadline is to allow for mediators to continue their efforts. If, after these four days, the Israeli enemy persists in preventing the entry of aid into Gaza, maintains the complete closure of crossings, and continues to block the entry of food and medicine into Gaza, we will resume our naval operations against the Israeli enemy,” he added.

The Houthis launched more than 100 attacks targeting ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden following Israel’s war on Gaza, saying the raids were in solidarity with Palestinians in the enclave.

During that period, the fighters sank two vessels, seized another and killed at least four seafarers in an offensive that disrupted global shipping, forcing firms to re-route to longer and more expensive journeys around Southern Africa.

The Houthis also launched dozens of missile and drone attacks on Israel, killing at least one person and causing damage to buildings, including a school in Tel Aviv.

The United States, under President Donald Trump, re-designated the Houthis as a “terrorist” organisation earlier this week.

Hamas has welcomed the announcement.

“The brave decision … is an extension of the positions of support and assistance that they [the Houthis] provided over the course of 15 months of war … in Gaza,” the Palestinian group announced.

The Houthis, who control most of Yemen, also stated in February that they will take military action if the US and Israel try to displace Palestinians from Gaza forcibly.

Their ultimatum comes as Israel’s blockade on all aid into Gaza entered a seventh day.

The siege began on March 2 after Israel reneged on the ceasefire deal and sought to extend the first stage of the three-phased agreement that expired last week, without committing to ending the war on Gaza.

The United Nations, rights groups and countries around the world say the Israeli blockade could constitute a war crime.

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), in a statement on Friday, noted the Israeli action has caused prices to soar in Gaza and resulted in anxiety over a return to bombardment and starvation.

It added that the blockade also comes as health authorities reported that at least eight babies, whose families have been sheltering in flimsy makeshift tents, have died from the cold in the past two weeks.

“As the occupying power, Israel has a legal obligation to ensure the provision of the necessities of life for Palestinians living under its control,” the OHCHR said, stating, “Any denial of the entry of the necessities of life for civilians may amount to collective punishment. The use of hunger and starvation as a weapon of war is a war crime.”

Palestinians say the blockade has also resulted in shortages of medical supplies and left hospitals struggling to care for those wounded in the war.

Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 48,440 Palestinians and wounded 111,845 others. Authorities in the enclave say the death toll is likely to be at least 61,709, as thousands of Palestinians missing under the rubble are presumed dead.
