General Worried about Iran’s Diplomatic Inaction on BBC’s Interference

“The (Iranian) Foreign Ministry’s silence on the British interference in our country’s internal affairs raises doubts,” Brigadier General Massoud Jazayeri said on Monday.

He called on the Foreign Ministry to show “decisive and proportional” reaction to the British government and embassy in Iran because of BBC’s brazen interference in the country’s domestic issues.

“People of Iran expect the administration to take action in this regard and silence the voice of the devil,” the general noted.

Jazayeri stressed that the Foreign Ministry should set a precondition for the expansion of diplomatic ties with London, namely “an end to Britain’s shameful interference” in Iran’s internal affairs.

The remarks came in reaction to a recent move by BBC encouraging the Iranians not to vote for certain candidates running for the Assembly of Experts.

The Assembly of Experts and parliamentary elections will be held simultaneously next Friday.

Three Presidents Due in Iran in Coming Days: Spokesman

Speaking in his weekly press conference, Jaberi Ansari said that Azeri President Ilham Aliyev will be here in Tehran on Tuesday.

The President of Switzerland Johann Schneider-Ammann will also pay an official visit to Iran on February 27, the Iranian spokesman announced.

He further noted that South African President Jacob Zuma is also scheduled to arrive in Tehran later on February 29.

“These visits demonstrate a new era of Iran’s ties with different countries,” Jaberi Ansari noted.

The visits come against the backdrop of a new wave of interest in ties with Iran after the country and six world powers on July 14, 2015 reached a conclusion over the text of a comprehensive deal on Tehran’s nuclear program and implemented the agreement on January 16.

The nuclear deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) terminated all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran.

Experts believe that Iran’s economic growth would rise remarkably after the final nuclear deal takes effect.

Russia lauds Iran’s role in oil market talks

Novak has been quoted by the media as saying that Iran has had a constructive approach toward a proposal that specifically calls for keeping the output at the current levels.

Iran’s oil officials are yet to comment on this.

The Russian energy minister further added that negotiations between producers on ways to push up the prices are still ongoing, and that Venezuela’s oil minister has informed him about the results.

“So far, a number of producers have voiced readiness to keep their output at the current levels,” Novak has been quoted as saying.  “The overall production of those countries makes up some 75 percent of the total global oil production.  Therefore, we have been able to obtain the agreement of producers as much as needed,” he added.

Last week, Iran said a quadripartite meeting that it hosted with the visiting oil ministers of Venezuela, Iraq and Qatar over measures to boost oil prices had ended with an agreement for OPEC and non-OPEC oil producers to keep their current output ceiling to help stabilize the market and boost the prices.

“It was decided that OPEC and non-OPEC producers keep their current ceiling to help stabilize the market and improve the prices to the benefit of both the consumers and the producers,” Zangeneh told reporters after the meeting.

Earlier, oil ministers from Venezuela, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Russia had met in Doha to discuss ways to stabilize the market. They had announced at the end of the meeting that they had agreed to freeze output in a bid to shore up prices after a 70 percent drop due to chronic oversupply.

On Saturday, Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro said he was sending new proposals to key oil producers in an attempt which it says is meant to help stabilize the prices without providing any explanations.

Ayatollah Rafsanjani asks for confronting terrorist, Daesh ideology

Hashemi Rafsanjani

Addressing a group of professors and academicians, Ayatollah Rafsanjani said Islamic Iran is, however, strong both in terms of security and defense.

He said certain statistics reveal that 180 websites of terrorist groups have been blocked worldwide and the groups know pretty well that their survival depends on deception of the youth, so they continue launching wide-scale publicity.

Elsewhere in his address, the Expediency Council Chairman called for high public turnout in the February 26 elections and cautioned certain factions against back-biting and bickering so as not to result in the low public turnout.

‘Today, pillars of the Islamic establishment will get further consolidated with the public participation and anybody trying to scale down public presence for whatever reason has served enemies of the revolution.’

Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani insisted high people’s presence in the Friday elections and said it would be a way of supporting the government.

Russia’s Defense Chief Submits Putin’s Message to Iran’s President

At a meeting held in Tehran, Shoigu briefed President Rouhani on the latest developments concerning regional stability and ongoing talks on the cessation of hostilities in Syria.

President Rouhani, for his part, elaborated on Tehran’s stance on the situation in Syria and potential solution to the conflict in the Arab country.

He further underlined that the crisis in Syria can only be resolved through political negotiation and respect for the rights of the country’s government and people, who are the main side to decide the country’s future.

The visit by Shoigu comes less than a week after Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan paid a visit to Moscow.

In Moscow, Dehqan had discussed mutual relations as well as regional and international developments with President Putin and also Shoigu.

Japan eyeing Iran’s oil prize Azadegan

Platts has quoted a senior Japanese government official as saying that Azadegan is in a list of upstream projects in which Tokyo is interested.

“With Iran holding one of the largest oil and gas reserves in the world, we recognize that upstream developments would be extremely [good opportunity] for Japanese companies,” Yuki Sadamitsu, the director of the oil and gas division at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has told Platts.

“As the government, we are interested in upstream opportunities including Azadegan in Iran,” Sadamitsu said.

Inpex, Japan’s largest upstream company, had a stake of 10 percent in the project but withdrew in 2010 following the Japanese cabinet’s decision which is believed to have been prompted by US pressures.

IRAN SACKED CNPC

Azadegan has already been described as Iran’s biggest oil discovery in multiple decades and is believed to have an in-place reservoir of 42 billion barrels.

Iran awarded the project to China’s CNPC in 2009. However, the country’s oil officials later indicated major discontent with the performance of the Chinese company and accordingly announced in April 2014 that it had been kicked out of Azadegan.

In late January, Iran’s media said the country is discussing the development of the megaproject with the French energy giant Total.

The production target that Iran has set for Azadegan in its second phase of development is 210,000 barrels per day (bpd) which is expected to rise further to as high as 320,000 bpd in a later stage.

The project is currently producing 110,000 bpd.

SUPPORTING IRAN INVESTMENTS

Elsewhere in his interview with Platts, Sadamitsu has emphasized that Tokyo intends to provide financial support for Japanese companies once commercial decisions for participating in Iran’s oil projects are made.

Asked to comment about Japan’s potential interests for participating in projects in Iran, he said the government has kept its options open for exploration, development and enhanced oil recovery projects, leaving it to the Japanese companies to make commercial decisions.

But Sadamitsu said it remains unclear whether Iranian upstream projects will be “attractive” compared to projects in other countries such as in Iraq as there are still areas that need to be clarified in the new Iran Petroleum Contract (IPC).

While noting Japanese companies are running a series of cost reviews in the low oil price environment, the official emphasized that the government is looking at ways to enhance its financing schemes to help the companies making new upstream investments.

“Especially under the current difficulties, we are looking at whether the [government] can take more risks if private companies are making their commercial decisions,” Sadamitsu said.

Iran Crowned Asian Futsal Champion

The team came from 1-0 deficit to beat Uzbekistan 2-1 at the Uzbekistan Stadium in Tashkent.

Dilshod found the back of Iran’s net in the first minutes of the match but two goals from Ghodrat Bahadori and captain Mohammad Keshavarz in the first half wrapped up victory for the Iranian team over Uzbekistan.

Iran could have scored more goals but the players wasted their chances.

Earlier in the day, Thailand humiliated Vietnam 8-0 in the third-place match.

Iran has won 11 times out of 14 editions. Japan has won the other 3 editions of the competition including the last 2 championships.

Iran, Oman Keen to Bolster Economic Ties

“The relations between Iran and Oman, which are based upon friendship, fraternity and mutual trust, are exemplary, and Tehran welcomes the expansion of economic cooperation with Muscat,” Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Sunday at a meeting with Oman’s Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi, in Tehran.

The president also called for efforts to seize the opportunities for economic cooperation, ushered in by the termination of anti-Iran sanctions under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a lasting nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

President Rouhani noted that the private sectors of Iran and Oman can promote cooperation in the development of ports, civil aviation, railroad transportation and banking activities.

He also expressed Iran’s readiness to facilitate the activity of Omani investors and merchants, calling on Muscat to do the same for Iranian traders.

The visiting Omani diplomat, for his part, said the sultanate welcomes the presence of Iranian merchants by offering them special trade facilitation.

Bin Alawi said Iran and Oman’s economies complement each other, which is the more reason for the promotion of mutual cooperation between the two nations.

The top Omani diplomat who arrived in Iran on Saturday has also held meetings with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani.

Iran and Oman share age-old and close diplomatic, economic, and military ties. Sultan Qaboos played an important role in facilitating the early stages of nuclear talks between Iran and world powers, which led to the JCPOA.
