Iranian DM Pledges Continued Advisory Support for Syria

General Hossein Dehghan

Speaking at a meeting with Syrian Defense Minister Fahd Jassem al-Freij in Tehran, Brigadier General Dehqan emphasized that taking firm and decisive action against terrorism is among Iran’s declared policies.

“Based on the request of the legitimate government of Syria, we regard supporting the people and government of the country as our duty,” the Iranian defense minister said.

He further highlighted the Islamic republic’s resolve to combat terrorism and provide all-out support for Syria, including military consultations and humanitarian assistance, saying that Tehran’s measures is aimed at establishing peace, stability and security in the Middle east region.

Freij, for his part, hailed Iran’s continued supports for the Syrian nation in its anti-terror campaign and said undoubtedly such supports would lead to the victory of the Axis of Resistance against terrorist groups.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with Takfiri terrorists from various groups, including Daesh, currently controlling parts of it.

According to a new report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.

In the meantime, Iran has remained a close ally of Syria and supports its legitimate government in the face of foreign-backed militancy.

Iran warns nationals in Turkey to stay away from public places

In a statement issued on Thursday, Tehran’s Embassy in Ankara urged both Iranian tourists and those nationals residing in Turkey to heed the host nation’s warnings and avoid crowded public sites or gatherings across the country.

“The Consulates of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Embassy in Ankara, Istanbul, Erzurum and Trabzon are fully ready to provide our compatriots with services on working days and in emergency situations,” said the statement.

The notification came a day after six people lost their lives and over 30 others were wounded in a bomb attack that targeted a police station in the southeastern Turkish town of Midyat.

The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militant group has claimed responsibility for the fatal blast.

Ankara and Istanbul have also witnessed similar terrorist expositions in recent months.

On Tuesday, at least 11 people were killed and 36 others injured after a parked car packed with explosives was detonated by remote control in central Istanbul during the morning rush hour as police buses passed.

Iran sharply censured Tuesday’s terrorist bomb blast in Istanbul, stressing the necessity of a firm international fight against terrorism.

In a similar terrorist act back in March, an Iranian was killed and three others, including two children, sustained injures in a huge bomb explosion that hit a shopping street in Istanbul.

Turkey’s southern parts have plunged into chaos after Ankara’s military launched a large-scale offensive against the PPK since last year. The Turkish army has also been pounding the militant group’s positions in northern Iraq.

The military operations led to the collapse of a shaky truce deal that had stood between the two sides since 2013.

Syria truce must not strengthen terror groups: Iran defense chief

Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan made the comments in a trilateral meeting with his Russian and Syrian counterparts, Lieutenant General Sergei Shoigu and Major General Fahad Jassim Freij, in Tehran on Thursday.

“Iran gives its approval to a ceasefire which has the necessary guarantees and will not lead to the strengthening of the terrorists operating in this country,” said the Iranian defense chief.

Dehqan further called for “a firm fight” against all terrorist groups without making exceptions as well as a halt in the flow of foreign aid to the Takfiri outfits operating in the country.

However, he added that such anti-terror battles must go hand in hand with efforts on the diplomatic front with the aim of setting the stage for the Syrian nation to decide its own political future in peace.

The Iranian minister further slammed the United States, Saudi Arabia and some other regional states for supporting the terrorists under the guise of so-called “moderate opposition,” saying such “fake and empty” attempts merely exposes the lies of imperialist powers that claim to be advocating anti-terror battles.

Saudi, Israel bent on promoting terror

Dehqan harshly condemned a joint Saudi-Israeli plot aimed at boosting terrorism, warning the Riyadh regime against “the dangerous repercussions” of working hand in gloves with “enemies of Muslims and the entire humanity.”

He also called for “urgent and comprehensive” measures aimed at eliminating terror threats, stressing that the trilateral Tehran meeting has been held to that effect.

Iran, as an anchor of stability and peace in the region and a major victim of terrorism, has always stood firm in the face of terror, occupation and aggression, he added.

The senior Iranian official further expressed hope that the Tehran forum could help foil the plots hatched to harm the sovereignty of regional states by breaking them into pieces.

In turn, the Russian and Syrian ministers outlined their views on ways to promote the fight against terrorism, thanking the Islamic Republic for hosting the meeting.

Syria has been the scene of a foreign-backed crisis since March 2011. According to a February report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people in total since March 2011.

The United Nations has stopped counting the death toll in Syria, citing widespread violence across the country as well as complexities in checking the credibility of the statistics provided by the government and other sources.

Iran and Russia have been helping the Syrian government in its anti-terror battles.

Iranian military experts have been giving advisory assistance to Syrian army troops, while Moscow’s air force has been providing cover for military operations on the ground.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Hossein Jaberi Ansari said on Thursday that the incident indicates the vulnerability of Central Asia to such terrorist activities.

The attack in Aktobe “shows the necessity for cooperation among regional countries to counter extremism and its intellectual and political origins in a comprehensive and integrated [way].”

On June 5, unidentified gunmen attacked two gun shops and a military unit in Aktobe, killing seven people and injuring 37 others, most of them servicemen.

Thirteen assailants were killed, nine were arrested in a counter-terror operation in the city, with six criminals still at large.

A red terrorist threat level was put in place in Aktobe while a moderate yellow one was declared elsewhere across the country for 40 days.

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said on Wednesday that the Aktobe attacks had been organized by supporters of radical, pseudo-religious teachings who were instructed from abroad. He vowed to use the toughest measures to “suppress extremists and terrorists.”

No Secrecy in Developing Iran’s Missile Program: IRGC Official

General Hossein Nejat

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, General Hossein Nejat, the IRGC lieutenant commander for cultural affairs, underlined that the country’s missile program will both continue to be expanded and made public according to the grand strategies set by the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces.

He also urged the administration to demonstrate power and not give in to the United States’ excessive demands.

In late March, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei underscored the need for boosting Iran’s defense capabilities, warning that enemies are making use of every tool available to undermine the Islamic Republic.

Ayatollah Khamenei said at the time that if the Islamic establishment seeks technology and negotiations but lacks defense might, it will have to buckle in the face of any weak country that poses threat to it.

6 New Nanoproducts Unveiled at Iran Agro Food 2016

Agro Food

Here’s IFP’s translation of a report by ISNA on these new products:

Iran’s latest nanotechnology achievements in the field of food and agricultural products were released in the Agro Food 2016, which was attended by 710 domestic and 746 foreign companies.

Nano-structured hard and resistant coatings for industrial pieces, tools, and equipment exposed to erosion and corrosion were among the achievements unveiled in this exhibition.

These coatings increase the durability of pieces, tools, and moulds, reduce the need for repeated repairs and services, increase the surface quality of parts, decrease the production cost, save on foreign exchange, considerably boost the pieces’ resistance, and lead to a tenfold increase in their lifespan.

Biodegradable nylon was the second product released in the exhibition. These nylons are made of nanoparticles that increase the degradability of polymers. Using nanotechnology, the lifespan of plastic can be decreased from 200 years to less than 5 years.

Greenhouse coating was another nanoproduct, which includes three-layered greenhouse nano-nylons. Special features have been added to each of these layers to improve the quality and performance of these coatings.

Nano-pesticides were also unveiled at Agro Food 2016. These pesticides contain chitosan nanoparticles with menthol and are anti-fungal. These substances reinforce the plant’s natural safety system and help it [the plant] release certain proteins and biochemical compounds. Pests and pathogenic microorganisms are sensitive to these compounds and are killed after a while.

Industrial nano cavitation device was another achievement displayed by Iranian researchers. The energy produced in this device is used for cold pasteurization, mixing of liquids insoluble in liquid mediums, and also in enhancement of chemical reactivity in different substances.

Cold plasma generator is also used for increasing the shelf life of food products and their sterilization and boosting the germination of seeds. Through a non-thermal process, cold plasma can decrease the microbial load of raw and refined agricultural materials.

Iran Agro Food 2016 was held from May 30 to June 2 at Tehran International Permanent Fairgrounds.

Known as the largest and most famous international food and agricultural event in the Middle East ever since its first edition in 1994, Iran Agro Food has been divided into three specialized sections since 2006: “Iran Food and Hospitality 2016”, “Iran Food + Bev Tec 2016”, and “Iran Agro 2016”, which are held as three events simultaneously.

Iranian newspapers on Thursday covered a rare gathering of 2,000 Iranian teenagers in Tehran, who were dispersed by the Police. The teenagers had arranged the gathering in social media (Telegram and Instagram). The move was widely analysed as it indicates the arrival of a new generation.

Papers also continued covering a recent decision by the United Nations to temporarily remove Saudi Arabia’s name from the blacklist of child-killers in Yemen, allegedly because of Riyadh’s petrodollars. It is reported that Saudis have threatened to stop their financial aid if UN does not withdraw the decision.

Precious Quran Manuscript to Be Unveiled

Qoran

The poster of the manuscript was unveiled earlier this week at a press conference attended by the project director Rasoul Motamedi, a master of Persian classic painting, Majid Sadeqzadeh, project illuminator, and the sponsors, brothers Mehdi and Mehrdad Janfaza. The project took off as per the will of the sponsors’ father, and started in 1996.
“After studying and examining Quran copies in bookstores and exhibitions, we decided to create a glorious manuscript with the collaboration of masters of Persian classic arts,” Honaronline quoted Mehrdad Janfaza as saying.
One of the unique features is that it is made of gilded handmade paper, he said. “The ancient Islamic calligraphy script ‘Thuluth’ was chosen for the script after consultations with experts. Master of calligraphy Golamreza Mahrouei wrote the script, and each page is uniquely illuminated. Although different in form, there is a common thread of illumination in the pages throughout the entire work. The decorative arts are inspired from Islamic art of the Safavid Dynasty (7th century AD).”
Over the past 18 years, a combination of Iranian traditional arts has been gathered in the volume, making it rich in Persian culture and art. “The manuscript cost over $1.5 million to produce. However, all the proceeds of its exhibit, both in Iran and abroad, will go to charity projects,” Janfaza added.

Decorative Cover
The cover of the book is decorated with textile printing and different precious stones by veteran artist Ali Saei. In addition to master calligrapher Mahrouei and jewelry designer Ali Rahvilian, the ‘rihal’ (wooden Qur’an holder) was created by Reza Qaderan.
The exhibition, with the slogan ‘Towards Understanding the Holy Quran’ opened at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Mosalla on the first day of the holy month of Ramadan, June 7, and will run through till June 28.

Shell starts to buy Iran’s oil

Based on shipping data released by Reuters, Shell has fixed Suezmax tanker Delta Hellas to bring 130,000 tons of Iranian crude from Kharg Island on 8 July to continental Europe.

Trading sources have announced that the cargo would unload in Rotterdam.

Iran had earlier announced that Shell will have to clear its debts for previous purchases of oil for the new orders to be proceeded.  In April, the country said debts that amounted to above $1.7 billion had been cleared.

The outstanding debt to Iran was a result of Iranian oil deliveries which Shell had been unable to pay for due to sanctions, Reuters reported on 7 March.

The Anglo-Dutch company resumed talks with Tehran on the debt after most Western sanctions were lifted in January. The payments were made over the next few weeks after the removal of the sanctions in euros as dollar transactions are still under US sanctions, the news agency added.

The company was involved in the development of Iran’s Soroush and Norouz oil fields in Persian Gulf waters.  It was also planning to develop a gas liquefaction project called Persian LNG in Iran’s South Pars energy zone. However, it later cancelled its plans to that effect as a result of the sanctions.

Besides Total, European purchases of Iranian crude have gone to refineries in Spain, Greece and Italy since the sanctions were lifted.

Iran’s crude exports are now close to pre-sanctions levels of around 2.5 million barrels per day, Reuters emphasized.
