“Kaveh Javanmard, a commander of a ‘counter-revolutionary’ group affiliated to the outlawed Democrat Party, was killed in recent clashes in the western parts of Iran,” Pakpour said.

Commander of Kurdistan’s IRGC Force Brigadier General Mohammad Hossein Rajabi earlier announced that all 11 members of the counter-revolutionary group had been killed by Iran’s security forces after 10 days of pursuit, as reported by Fars.

“The [IRGC] forces blocked the entry points and, subjugating the team to their will, led them toward the spot we desired,” the official said.

“After ten days of following them, we led them to the Kouhsalan area of [the provincial city of] Sarvabad, where our forces annihilated all 11 members.”

The operation also led to the deaths of three IRGC members.

Mining Report: New Exploration Plans Yield 90 Tons of Gold

Gold

According to a report by IRNA, as translated by IFP, the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Organization (IMIDRO), together with the Geological Survey of Iran (GSI), have managed to tap into 400 tons of iron ore, 500 tons of coal and 90 tons of gold of Iran’s mineral reserves.

“IMIDRO’s new exploration plans, which were launched in 2014 with the goal of optimal utilization of Iran’s mineral potential, cover an area of 250 square km in the east of the country”, the Deputy Mine, Industry and Trade Minister said.

Explorations Rise 2.5-Fold

Mahdi Karbasian, who is also the chairman of IMIDRO, pointed to the growth of the mineral explorations and said, “Explorations have increased 2.5 times during the past 80 years. The development of Iran’s underdeveloped mining sector is a prelude to balanced development in Iran, since it can help wean the country’s economy off petrodollars.”

He continued, “The exploration activities began in the untapped mine of Sangan (South Khorasan) and extended towards the eastern parts of the country.”

“Exploring 25 areas led to the identification of 300 mineral-bearing structures in the country which could be an attraction for foreign investors”, he added.

According to Karbasian, the implementation of 74 exploration projects, (general, detailed and complementary), in different parts of the country have led to stupendous achievements in different mines, including deposits of iron, coal, poly-metal, gold, copper, antimony, lead, zinc, chromite, titanium, nickel, molybdenum, barite, phosphate and bauxite.

Karbasian continued, “The extraction of minerals such as potash, magnesium, and lithium … from the brines are among the schemes which are already underway. A 50% rise in gold deposits from the Zarshowan gold mine (in West Azarbaijan) is the output of the complementary exploration projects.

Iran’s Mining Projects Open to Foreign Investors

“Iran will be more than happy to have German and Canadian companies cooperate in its mining exploration plans. In the post-sanctions era, the attraction of foreign investment in the first place, followed by the transfer of technical knowhow, are among our priorities”, the Deputy Minister noted.

According to him, German and Canadian companies have already started mining operations and explored down to 10,000m below ground with the aid of satellite technology. This is while Iran had only managed to explore to a depth of 400m to 500m so far.

Karbasian went on to say that applying satellite technologies cuts down on exploration time and enhances quality. Investment in the mining sector ranges from excavations and exploration mines up to the value-added processed minerals.

Geophysical Exploration in Mineral-Rich Provinces

The Chairman of the IMIDRO laid emphasis on the role of technology in accelerating mining operations, saying, “We’ve compiled accurate, factual information through 38 square km of geophysical explorations carried out in the provinces of Yazd, Kerman, and east of Isfahan”.

According to him, mining explorations usually require a span of five-to-six months, while foreign mining companies can provide this information in ten days.

Iran’s Minister of Mine, Industries and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh had previously announced that the maximum size of mining exploration used to be 40 square km. This figure has risen considerably with the aid of foreign prospectors. There are prodigious amounts of small mining areas, replete with mineral reserves, whose exploration licences will be issued soon.

“The Geological Survey of Iran (GSI) made headway in airborne geophysical operations in 2013 and has carried out some 150,000 square km of linear geophysical operations during the past 9 months”, he said, noting that in the 10 years leading up to 2013, the record for airborne linear geophysical operations was at most 220,000 square km.

He continued, “The Ministry of Mine, Industries and Trade has unblocked 17 square km of the country’s exploration areas and 80% of these mineral-bearing structures have been handed over to investors and prospectors.”

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Condemns Istanbul Airport Blast

Bahram Qassemi, the newly-appointed spokesperson, officially reacted to the blast which killed and wounded innocent civilians

Qassemi offered condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families of the victims and the Turkish government.

“As Foreign Minister Zarif has frequently stated, there is a systematic lack of international resolve to address the vicious phenomenon; extremism and terrorism will not be limited by political and geographical borders,” he said.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes cooperation with its neighbours to uproot terrorism,” Qassemi said, reiterating Iran’s principled position.

Iran’s consulate-general announced that six Iranians present at the time of the blast had been reportedly hospitalized, with four of them in stable conditions, one dead from wounds, and one other unnamed Iranian in critical condition.

On Tuesday night, a suicide blast hit Istanbul Atatürk International Airport. Casualties have been reported to amount to 36 dead and 150 wounded at the time of preparing this report.

Iran against Interference in Regional Countries’ Affairs: President

Rouhani

Addressing a gathering of high-ranking Iranian military officials and commanders in Tehran on Tuesday, June 28, Rouhani said, “We do not intend to interfere in the affairs of any country, and will not let others interfere either, and people of the region should be able to decide for their own country.”

The President, however, made it clear that Iran is against groups that jeopardize the region’s security, adding, “We support safety for the region’s people and stand with them in the fight against the groups that seek terror and insecurity.”

He also underlined that Iran has never started any tension and never thinks of aggression against others, but at the same time boosts preparedness for defence to protect its territorial integrity with the help of the armed forces.

The President then reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting and reinforcing the Iranian armed forces.

Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great headway in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the military sphere.

Iran has made it clear that its military might poses no threat to the regional countries, saying that the Islamic Republic’s defence doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.

He also expressed his hope that the number of wounded Iranians does not increase. “The latest information on the explosions will be announced as soon as possible.”

Three deadly explosions rocked Atatürk International Airport in Istanbul on Tuesday evening, leaving at least 36 dead and 150 injured.

Analyst: “US Recognizing Iran as a Legitimate Power”

The US is realizing that it is getting “increasingly isolated” in the fight against Daesh [ISIS], and is recognizing Iran as “a legitimate power” in this regard, says an American analyst.

Bennett made the comments in an interview with Press TV on Wednesday June 29, when asked about US Secretary of State John Kerry, who has praised the role Iran has played in the fight against Daesh in Iraq.

“Look, we have challenges with Iran as everybody knows, and we are working on those challenges,” Kerry was quoted as saying by CNN on Tuesday. “But I can tell you that Iran in Iraq has been in certain ways helpful, and they clearly are focused on ISIL-Daesh, and so we have a common interest, actually.”

Bennett said Kerry’s remarks are, “Quite a powerful indication that the United States is finding itself increasingly isolated in its alliance with Saudi Arabia and its Wahhabi Takfiri mercenary operations in Syria, and it’s discovering that the rest of the world is finding out and learning very quickly that the US really has been financing and is responsible for a lot of this disruption.”

Also, “This does represent John Kerry moving the United States into a position without saying that the United States has been overtly wrong,” he added.

“The United States is now recognizing Iran as a legitimate power, that is, really the only power that can provide the Iraqi people with brotherly camaraderie,” Bennett stated.

Infrastructure Completed for Power Export to Azerbaijan

Chitchian said on Tuesday June 28 that Iran has completed a power transmission line which will could exchange some 600 megawatts of electricity between the two countries.

Iran and Azerbaijan have long sought to trade electricity, and reports say the Azeri Parliament recently passed a motion which allows for such exchange and predicts power exports to a third country.

Earlier this month, reports said Iran was weighing power transfer routes to swap electricity with Russia. Reports said currently two routes were available; one from Iran to Armenia and then Georgia before reaching Russia and the other from Iran to Azerbaijan and then Russia via Georgia again.

Payam Baqeri, head of Export Committee of the Iranian Power Industry Union, told the Azerbaijan Press Agency (APA) that Iran and Russia had for long been negotiating over electricity swap during high seasons.

The official reportedly said that given the existing conditions for power exchange, the swap was likely set to take place through Azerbaijan. He said the two neighbours have already synchronized their power grids.

This is while Iran and Armenia, another neighbour of Azerbaijan, have also held negotiations in the past over the exports of electricity and related goods and services.

Iran and Armenia signed a deal in 2004, based on which, Iran exported natural gas to its north-western neighbour to generate electricity and in return, Armenia exported electricity to Iran.

Iran reportedly exports nearly one million cubic meters of natural gas to Armenia per day. Officials in Tehran previously said that this volume could reach as high as six million cubic meters per day.

Last August, Iran and Armenia signed a new contract for the construction of a third power transmission line that would enable the two countries to exchange more electricity.

Arab Group Requests Discussion on Israel’s Nuclear File at IAEA Conference

Iran Sees ‘Positive Outlook’ for Ties with IAEA after Latest Report

The Arab Group’s request lists the reasons that made the group submit its demand, according to a well-informed source at the IAEA, who asked not to be named, in speaking to KUNA, as covered by IRNA. He did not say what the reasons were or whether he had read the request or not.

The Arab Group submit a similar request every year, calling for Israel’s nuclear capabilities to be placed under the IAEA’s guarantee protocols. The Arab Group has also been calling on Israel to join the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Israel claims it is still in a state of war with various Arab countries and is waiting for peace in order to consider joining the NPT.
