Iran Ready to Support UN Peacekeeping Missions: Khoshrou

khoshrou

Gholam-Ali Khoshrou, Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the UN, made the announcement while addressing the global body’s general assembly in New York on Tuesday.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that devising any mechanism by the UN for addressing problems hindering peacekeeping operations and the deployment of peacekeepers… must be carried out in accordance with the goals and principles written in the United Nation’s charter,” he said.

He also stressed that a host country’s primary responsibility is the protection of civilians in conflict zones, an action which should also be carried out by peacekeeping missions.

He further noted that any manner of armed intervention by the UN or any other foreign force on the pretext of protecting civilians is not acceptable.

Khoshrou emphasized that dealing with the misconduct of peacekeepers, such as the sexual exploitation and abuse of locals, must be a priority for the UN.

Western Coalition Not Sincere in Fight against Terrorism: Iran’s Leader

Speaking in a meeting with the chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bakir Izetbegovic, in Tehran on Tuesday, Ayatollah Khamenei refuted the sincerity of the Western governments’ military coalition in combating terrorism, saying that although the coalition “may enter into fight with terrorists in some cases, they are not genuinely after uprooting terrorism either in Iraq or in Syria and their bad and evil policies are exacerbating problems facing humanity on a daily basis.”

The Leader pointed to the overflow of Takfiri terrorism into Europe and the potential aggravation of this problem in the future, stating, “The Arab region is apparently the birthplace of this phenomenon but the American government and some European governments are in reality the main factors behind the occurrence of such events.”

Ayatollah Khamenei said the resolution of the current crises hinges on an understanding of their causes and the existence of the determination to resolve them.

“The humiliation of young Muslims in some rich and powerful European countries creates grounds for them to join deviant terrorist groups such as ISIS and these humiliated youths embark on bombing and killing upon their return to Europe,” the Leader added, Press TV reported.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei pointed to the history of friendly relations between Iran and Bosnia and Herzegovina and underlined the Islamic Republic’s full readiness to enhance cooperation and interaction with the Balkan country in different political and economic fields as well as in international circles.

Ayatollah Khamenei emphasized that independent countries must reduce rifts and conflicts by strengthening relations and refusing to be swayed by the policies of arrogant powers.

Izetbegovic, for his part, described his talks with Iranian officials earlier in the day as successful and hoped the friendly ties between the two countries would lead to effective economic cooperation.

He underlined that Bosnia and Herzegovina’s policy is to expand relations with Muslim countries.

Izetbegovic further described Takfiri terrorism as a dangerous disease and said all prominent figures in his country decisively reject and condemn the phenomenon.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani was also present at the meeting, as reported by Tasnim.

Heading a high-ranking political, economic, and cultural delegation, the Bosnian official arrived in the Iranian capital on Tuesday morning on a four-day visit.

Global Resolve Crucial in Fight against Terrorism: Larijani

Larijani

“The pace of terrorist events in the region is higher than political solutions and this factor has created obstacles in the way of the resolution of the issue,” Larijani said in a meeting with the visiting chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bakir Izetbegovic, in Tehran on Tuesday.

He added that terrorism poses a threat to the security of all countries as acts of terror have increased over the recent years, saying, “Terrorism has now turned into a big problem in the region and the world.”

Larijani said efforts made by some countries to use terrorism as a means as well as the existence of an ideological current among a small group of Muslims that nurtures terrorism were two main factors that have helped increase terror attacks.

The top Iranian parliamentarian also stressed the importance of improving political, trade and economic relations between Tehran and Sarajevo to serve the two nations’ interests.

Larijani also threw the Iranian parliament’s weight behind the expansion of bilateral cooperation.

The chairman of the Bosnian Presidency, for his part, said his country believes that terrorism has nothing to do with true Islam and urged all Muslim countries to engage in a joint fight against the malicious phenomenon.

Izetbegovic expressed confidence that Iran, as a stable country and a regional power, can help solve the current issues in the region, saying that the Bosnian government is resolute to counter sectarianism and extremism and has taken positive steps in this regard.

The Bosnian official arrived in Tehran on Monday at the invitation of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. He held separate talks with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Iranian president, and Chairman of the Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani on Tuesday.

Also on Tuesday, Iranian and Bosnian officials signed a memorandum of understanding on the promotion of business cooperation and mutual investment in the presence of Rouhani and Izetbegovic.

Iran Ready to Help Pakistan Fight Terrorist Groups: FM Spokesman

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has always stressed the importance of cooperation in the fight against terrorist groups and expresses its readiness to help the Pakistani government in this regard,” Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Tuesday.

He urged all countries to engage in a fundamental and serious campaign against the ominous phenomenon of terrorism.

The Iranian spokesperson also offered his condolences to the Pakistani government and nation and extended his sympathy to the bereaved families of the victims.

At least 61 people were killed and more than 110 others wounded after militants attacked the police college in Quetta in the restive Pakistani province of Balochistan late on Monday.

Iran Ready to Help Pakistan Fight Terrorist Groups: FM Spokesman

The Takfiri Daesh group on Tuesday claimed responsibility for the attack after authorities said the attackers belonged to a militant group affiliated with the Pakistani Taliban.

It was one of the deadliest attacks on Pakistan’s security forces in recent years, sparking a ferocious gunbattle with troops that lasted into early hours Tuesday.

According to security officials, the attackers were killed following a four-long-hour siege. Officials said all three assailants were wearing explosive vests while they entered the facility.

In August, Daesh also claimed responsibility for an attack on a gathering of mourners at a hospital in Quetta that killed 70 people but that attack was also claimed by Pakistani Taliban faction, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar.

Pakistan has been battling al-Qaeda-linked terrorists and pro-Taliban militants for years, especially after the US-led invasion in neighboring Afghanistan in 2001 and the subsequent spillover of militancy into the region.

In June 2014, the Pakistani army intensified its anti-militancy efforts by deploying some 30,000 troops near the border with Afghanistan to wipe out militant bases in the tribal area and bring an end to the bloody militancy.

Infiltration Plots Fully Monitored by Iran’s Intelligence Forces: Minister

Intelligence Minister Alavi, who was invited to the Parliament to answer the questions of 3 lawmakers regarding the issue of infiltration, assured the MPs that all schemes with the aim of making inroads into Iran are under control of the intelligence forces.

Appropriate measures have been taken to counter the hostile plots against Iran and all cases of infiltration attempts have been foiled by the intelligence forces, Alawi underscored.

Asked about a summer trip to Iran by Jim Dabakis, a member of the Utah State Senate, the minister made it clear that the American politician was kept under surveillance by the intelligence forces during his stay in Iran.

How would the Intelligence Ministry, which keeps a close watch on terrorist moves and captures Takfiri militants and members of ISIS trying to cross the borders, fail to notice a visit by Dabakis who entered the country with a passport and via legal borders, he wondered, as reported by Tasnim.

In September, KUTV, a local new agency in Salt Lake City, Utah, reported Dabakis’ visit to Iran, quoting the state senator after his return to the US as saying that people of Iran are ready to mend relations with the US even if their government is not.

Iranian Nuclear Negotiator Acquitted of Spying Charges

Elsewhere in his remarks, Alavi said that a British-Iranian member of the country’s nuclear negotiating team has been cleared of spying allegations.

Abdolrasoul Dorri Esfahani, part of the team that secured a nuclear accord with world powers last year, was arrested in August and described by a judiciary spokesman as an “infiltrating spy”.

But in a written note to the Parliament, Alavi said the case had been dropped, as reported by IRNA.

“According to the views of the intelligence ministry’s experts, Mr Dorri Esfahani was not engaged in spying,” the note said, according to Vice-Speaker Massoud Pezeshkian.

Finally, the MPs who had asked the Minister to come to the Parliament and answer their questions, were convinced by Alavi’s responses.

Iran Ready to Boost Banking Ties with Singapore: CBI Chief

Valiollah Seif

Speaking in a meeting with Managing Director of Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) Ravi Menon in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, Seif highlighted the previous talks about the establishment of correspondent banking relationships with various international banks and said the CBI is fully prepared to support efforts to boost cooperation between Iranian and Singaporean banks.

He regretted that international banks’ lack of knowledge about Iranian banks’ activities has caused some unfounded concerns about the risk of relations with Iran’s banking network.

The officials further emphasized that the CBI and MAS can constructively interact in order to remove those concerns.

Menon, for his part, called for closer banking cooperation between Iran and Singapore and said his country only abides by the United Nations’ resolutions not any other sanctions like those imposed by the US Treasury Department.

While the JCPOA, a 159-page nuclear agreement between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), came into force in January and terminated all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran, some Iranian officials complain about the US failure to fully implement the accord, as the country still has problems in its banking transactions with other countries.

Back in March, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said Americans have yet to fulfill what they were supposed to do as per the nuclear deal.

Iran still has problems in its banking transactions or in restoring its frozen assets, because Western countries and those involved in such processes are afraid of Americans, the Leader said at the time, criticizing the US for its moves to prevent Iran from taking advantage of the sanctions removal.

Iran, Bosnia-Herzegovina Agree on Counterterrorism Cooperation

bosni-iran

Speaking at a joint press conference with his Bosnian counterpart in Tehran on Tuesday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said high-ranking officials from the two countries have discussed joint action against terrorism and extremism, which are issues of mutual concern and pose a serious threat to the region and the world.

As regards cultural cooperation between Tehran and Sarajevo, the Iranian president said that promotion of Islam as the religion of moderation could be the basis of cultural interaction for Muslims in Europe.

Iran, Bosnia-Herzegovina Agree on Counterterrorism Cooperation

President of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bakir Izetbegovic, for his part, said the two countries have agreed to work together in countering terrorism and extremism.

Terrorists and extremists are tarnishing the image of Islam under the name of Islam, Izetbegovic deplored, calling for joint action to portray the real image of Islam, the religion of peace, stability and mercy.

Those trying to damage Islam with criminal and barbaric actions have nothing to do with this religion, he added.

Muslims comprise the single largest religious community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, accounting for 51 percent of its population of around 4 million.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is located in Southeastern Europe on the Balkan Peninsula.

Sports Contracts Forbidden in New Fatwa by Wahhabis

According to a report by Al Alam News Network, as translated by IFP, Muhammad al-Assimi, a faculty member in Umm al-Qura University of Saudi Arabia, issued a fatwa that bans the signing of any contract with athletes.

Al Watan quoted him as claiming that all Muslim clerics agree on the prohibition of using money for sports.

He also noted that it is forbidden for a person to sell and buy players as a job.

Earlier last year, Muhammad Saalih Al-Munajjid, another Saudi mufti, had issued a decree that banned the job of sports commentators.

Stonebreaker Mother; Breadwinner of Her Children

Stonebreaker Mother

Maryam Nasiri is a devoted mother who was forced by the love of motherhood to break up stones with her delicate hands to grow up her children in hardship and watch them thrive.

Stonebreaker MotherWe were truly amazed and couldn’t believe our eyes; a mother who is used to break stones with a 20 kg sledgehammer all by herself. Nasiri is from Ramhormoz, a city in Iran’s south-western province of Khuzestan.

Here is IFP‘s translation of a report by Iran newspaper:

“How on earth could you do such an arduous labour,” we wondered and she, with a heavy Khuzestani accent, said, “You’d understand, if you were a mother.”

Not satisfied with the answer, we kept on asking that, “we understand that you are a devoted mother and there is no doubt in your love, unparalleled courage and unwavering faith, but doing this on a daily basis by a woman is unbelievable.” Again, she sufficed it to say that “you’d understand if you were a mother…”

Her hands are in no way similar to the hands of the women we see every day; however, if you look through the eyes of your heart, you’ll find them the most beautiful hands on earth. Overworked hands with deep wrinkles, old calluses and healed scars… For years, she would go to a mine in the vicinity of her living place to make money and support her 7 children by breaking up hard rocks.

Nasiri, “the stonebreaker woman”, was introduced as the country’s “exemplary mother” by the Cultural International Mother Foundation. She received the plaque of appreciation with her callused hands and tearful eyes and turned to the audience who were giving her a standing ovation and said, “I am a mother and all Iranian mothers will sacrifice anything for their children’s convenience.”

Stonebreaker Mother

I Never Had a Childhood

Nasiri who is now 44 years old said that she was forced to marry a man 45 years older.

“I lost my father and became an orphan when I was only 5. When my mother remarried, I was handed over to my cousin,” she said, adding that, “My nomadic life was spent on carrying the sheep to the plains and mountains, in winters and summers, with my cousin’s children.”

She said since her cousin had a wife and children and often failed to meet the expenses, she acquiesced to get married at the age of 13.

“I was an orphan and couldn’t disagree. My husband was 45 years older than me,” Nasiri said, regretting that she never had a childhood like others.

She added that they were nomads of Zagros Mountains and her husband was a livestock rancher. Every day, she used to get the sheep ready for grazing on the plains, do the house chores and milk the livestock.

I Fought Mountain Rocks for My Children

Children had to go all the way to Rud Zard-e Mashin village; however, their parents couldn’t afford the fare of the school bus as the father had fallen from the mountain and become paralysed. They were forced to sell the 1 to 2 kilograms of rice they had in their house to pay for the fare. She described it as the bitterest moments of her life and said, “It was that day when I made up my mind to fight the hard mountain rocks with a sledgehammer and a crowbar,” she noted.

“I didn’t know what to do; tomorrow was ahead of us and my hands were empty,” Nasiri noted, adding that she didn’t sleep a wink all that night.

She went on to say that after the morning prayer, she was watching the sunrise over the mountain tops with a pensive look in her eyes that a sudden thought occurred to her. Early in the morning, she went out to buy a sledgehammer and a crowbar with the aim of making money by breaking up rocks.

“I would work up until the sun was over my head and then I would return to our nomadic tent and make lunch,” she said, adding that, “after my husband and children had their lunch, I would get back to work up until the sunset.”

“At nights, I had to carry out my motherhood job for my children, make them dinner and put them to sleep through lullabies,” she said, adding that, “I couldn’t sleep many nights because my hands were extremely sore; however, I never let my children know it.”

Nasiri regretted that she was deprived of caressing her children’s faces because her hands had become rough. She went on to say that Rasoul and Soleiman, her children, grew up and sometimes helped him.

Stonebreaker Mother

My Biggest Wish Is to Watch My Children Thrive

“I just want my children to appreciate my efforts by studying and being successful; hence, most of the times I wouldn’t let them come for help,” she stressed.

Nasiri, who is an epitome of motherhood, has quitted stone breaking for around three years and plays with her only granddaughter Raheleh, the delight of her life. Nasiri’s biggest wish is to see her children climbing the steps of success. Qassem studies in Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz and Kazem in Imam Ali Officers’ Academy. Her daughters live with her and Rasoul and Soleiman have got married.

Nasiri says that her children have prohibited her from working for three years and added, “My children are grateful for my efforts and I am happy that I have grown them up through making Halal money.”

“Every morning through the window I stare at the mountain that I broke up with my hands to prevent a breakup in my life,” she concluded.

Iran, Bosnia Sign Economic MoU

Bosni

The document was signed by the countries’ officials in the presence of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and the visiting chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bakir Izetbegović, during a ceremony at Tehran’s Sadabad Complex on Tuesday.

It envisages the expansion of cooperation among the countries’ enterprises and industrial parks.

The Bosnian statesman arrived in the Iranian capital earlier in the day at the head of a high-ranking political, economic, and cultural delegation on a four-day visit.

Rouhani said during the ceremony that, ever since Bosnia’s independence from the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in 1992, Iran and Bosnia have maintained favorable bilateral relations.

He said there was peaceful coexistence among Muslims, Serbs, and Croats in the European country, which could function as a proper basis for peace and security there.

Rouhani referred to Islam as the religion of mercy, which he said invited the people of the world toward such coexistence, saying, “The promotion of moderate Islam can serve as a major cultural basis for European Muslims, including those of Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

A joint commission to be held in the Bosnian capital of Sarajevo in December is to examine and finalize the list of the areas of cooperation between the two countries, the Iranian chief executive said.
