Iran to Boost Foothold in US Carpet Market

Gholam-Reza Soleymani, the deputy industries minister for small businesses and industrial townships, said Iran exported about $150 million worth of hand-woven carpets from March to October.

Soleymani added that around $50 million of the exports had been made to the US.

The official said Iran would soon launch a plan in which three key export zones – the US, Lebanon and China – have been identified, stressing that this would facilitate a better coordination in export activities for each zone.

He also said that Iran plans to hold nine specialized carpet exhibitions across the world to promote its hand-woven carpets, IRNA reported.

Earlier this week, Hamid Karegar, the head of Iran’s National Carpet Center, said Iran would start direct shipments of its hand-woven carpets to the United States from early 2017. The shipments that used to be carried out from Germany would be made from Iran’s southern ports, Karegar added.

The official added that Iran’s exports of carpets had increased 18 percent in value and 11 percent in weight from March to September compared to the same period last year.

Karegar emphasized that Iran had sent a cargo of carpets to the US worth $37 million after the removal of the sanctions against Iran in January.

He added that Iran used to export as much as $80 million of carpets to the US, but the sanctions, had brought them to zero in 2010.

World Regards Saudis as Oil-Rich Bedouins: Report

Oil

According to a report by IRNA, as translated by IFP, the Saudi Newspaper Elwatan wrote in a column, “The world recognizes us [Arabs] for our money because Western media have depicted Arabs as Bedouins that have piles of oil barrels stacked out of their tents.
“When they ask us whether we are Persian Gulf Arabs, they are in fact implying that we are just rich,” wrote the article.
“What have our embassies done except for issuing visas for pilgrims and considering students’ affairs?” asked the article.
“When sitting in a foreign taxi, they say, ‘Oh! You are rich in oil and gasoline.’ This view is only caused by our indolence.”
“We are stereotyped negatively in the world which is only caused by having too much oil and doing nothing.”
The article also added, “We Arabs have overlooked the role media and diplomacy play in the world unlike Iranians that enjoy strong embassies and media as well as nationals in European countries that can impact decision-making processes in these countries. This is the result of long-term planning by Iranians; there are even many successful Iranian expatriates in countries like the US that reach high-level positions in the decision-making branches of the US government.”
The article also proposed that the potentialities of Saudi students in western countries, trying to infiltrate American and European media outlets and exploiting western stars to promote Arabs are some of the methods that can be used for uplifting the Arab image in the world.

Gholam Hossein Shafei, the Chairman of Iran’s Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Industries, told IRNA that Iran can increase its economic presence in Africa through Lebanon.
Shafei, who has traveled to Beirut along with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, said the trade meeting between Iranian and Lebanese businesspersons is to be held later in the day (Tuesday).
‘Lebanon is a real friend for Iran,’ Shafei said, adding that Tehran and Beirut enjoy special relations.

IRGC Developing Gigantic Version of New High-Speed Craft

v

Speaking to reporters in the northern city of Chalous on Tuesday, IRGC Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi said the new naval vessel, currently under construction, is a much bigger version of ‘Nazeri’ vessel.

The huge watercraft will be used for ‘special missions’ in the international waters, he added.

In mid-September, the IRGC unveiled a high-speed military vessel with the capability to carry helicopters, named after Mohammad Nazeri –commander of the elite commando units of the IRGC Navy who was martyred in May.

It is the biggest Iranian aluminum-hulled ship with a length of 55 meters that has an operational range of 10,000 kilometers.

Nazeri vessel can accommodate 100 passengers and carry a helicopter on board, with the capability to sail into rough seas.

The IRGC has in recent years acquired technical expertise in the production of speed boats.

Back in May 2015, Rear Admiral Fadavi said his forces were testing military speed boats with the breakneck velocity of 110 knots (203 km/h).

The speed boats are seen by many military experts as the IRGC’s trump card in case of any direct confrontation with US warships.

The IRGC Navy says the security of the Persian Gulf will be ensured without the presence of foreign forces, particularly the Americans.

BP in Talks with Iran to Develop 4 Oilfields

The National Iranian South Oil Company has held talks with 22 domestic and foreign companies for contracts to develop Karanj, Parsi, Rag Sefid and Shadegan Oilfields, Alipour said Monday, speaking on the sidelines of an exhibition of oil industry equipment in Ahvaz, capital of southwestern province of Khuzestan.

Among them are Russian and Chinese firms as well as BP, he said, predicting that the negotiations will lead to signing of memorandums of understanding in a few months.

According to the official, deals for developing the fields will be signed using the new model of oil contracts.

Back in August, President Hassan Rouhani’s cabinet approved an amended draft of the new model for oil and gas contracts.

The new amendments were endorsed after Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei stressed that no new oil and gas contracts for international companies would be awarded without necessary reforms.

The new oil and investment contract for international firms, known as the Iran Petroleum Contract (IPC), will replace Iran’s buyback oil deals.

Iran worked on the oil contract model for two years. The country hopes to draw as much as $50 billion investment a year from major oil companies such as Italy’s Eni SpA, Britain’s BP and France’s Total to develop its oil and gas fields.

Iran, Lebanon Share Common Opportunities, Challenges: Zarif

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif made the remark during a joint press conference with his Lebanese counterpart Gebran Bassil in Beirut on Monday.

“We hope that the Saudi authorities swiftly put away their narrow-minded policies and help to put out the fire of Takfiri terrorism in this region,” he said.

While noting that Iran and Lebanon share the same challenges, Zarif stressed that, “The danger of the Zionist regime not only threatens Lebanon but threatens the whole region and world.”

He went on to add that, “The danger of Takfiri terrorism is not only limited to Syria or the people of Lebanon. It is an extremist ideology which also threatens the whole world.”

Zarif also noted that apart from similar challenges, Iran and Lebanon share common opportunities, one of which being economic cooperation during the new international conditions.

“The presence of a high-ranking Iranian economic committee in Beirut shows the serious determination of Iran’s private and government sectors for cooperation with the people of Lebanon towards creating a better tomorrow,” he said.

He also hailed Lebanon for finally resolving its two-year-plus political impasse by the election of President Michel Aoun, and stressed that Iran would be happy to receive him at anytime if he wishes to visit Iran.

Earlier in the day, Zarif held a meeting with Aoun. He is also set to meet with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Caretaker Prime Minister Tammam Salam, and Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri.

Iran’s Zarif, Lebanon’s Aoun Discuss Bilateral Ties, Regional Developments

Speaking to reporters after the meeting on Monday, the Iranian foreign minister said steadfastness and resistance of the Lebanese people would lead to the defeat of the terrorists.

Zarif further said the Israeli regime is a threat to the Middle East, noting that Takfiri terrorists and the Zionist regime are the common enemies of Iran and Lebanon in the region.

“Iran and Lebanon have common enemies such as the Zionist regime as well as Takfiri and terrorist groups; however, beyond the common enemies, there are joint interests for stability and progress between the two countries and we have stood and will stand by the Lebanese people on both grounds,” he said, Press TV reported.

He added that Iran would always support Lebanon and is determined to improve cooperation with the country.

Zarif extended his congratulations to Aoun on his election as the new Lebanese president and said the country’s political achievement was a victory for all the Lebanese people.

The Iranian minister stressed that the two countries have many opportunities to expand political and economic relations, noting that Iran and Lebanon should make use of their common interests to promote stability and progress for the two countries.

“We are optimistic about the future of relations between Iran and Lebanon and these ties, which serve the interests of the two countries’ people and the entire region, are not harmful to any side,” he added.

Iran Stands against Spread of Instability in Mideast: Defense Minister

Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan
Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan

“Security and stability in the region are currently considered as important issues for the Islamic Republic of Iran and we (Iran) will definitely stand against the spread of instability in the region or those forces and elements that are promoters of such an unstable and insecure trend,” Dehqan told IRNA on Monday.

He added that Iran’s cooperation with Russia and Syria concerns the “goals and strategies which we have in the region and across the world.”

Such issues relate to Iran’s objectives and national interests, he emphasized.

Dehqan once again reaffirmed Iran’s support for regional countries “until security is restored to the region and terrorist and Takfiri groups are uprooted.”

Iran and Russia are Syria’s main allies and have been assisting the government in Damascus in its fight against foreign-backed terrorist groups, including the Daesh Takfiri terrorists.

On October 28, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Russian and Syrian counterparts, Sergei Lavrov and Walid Muallem, respectively, held a three-way meeting in Moscow and discussed possible ways to find a political solution to the Syria crisis besides a serious fight against the Takfiri terror groups operating in the Arab country.

Since September 30, 2015, Russia has been conducting airstrikes against Daesh and other terrorist groups in Syria at the Syrian government’s request.

Iran has also been providing advisory assistance to the Syrian government.

Syria has been gripped by a foreign-backed militancy since March 2011. UN special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura estimates that over 400,000 people have been killed in the conflict.

ISIS Leader Escapes from Mosul along with 150 Families Used as Human Shield

ISIS Leader scaped

“Intelligence sources confirmed the escape of terrorist [ISIS leader] Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi with 150 families in order to use them as cover from airstrikes,” the press service said.

The report came as it was reported last week that the ISIS leader is hiding in Mosul.

Earlier, local security sources told Sputnik that ISIS Leader al-Baghdadi escaped an airstrike in the Iraqi campaign to liberate the northern city of Mosul minutes ahead of an attack.

Baghdadi’s movements are known only by his inner circle, with the leader constantly changing location in Iraq and Syria to avoid airstrikes.

Earlier, the Iraqi army announced they have cleared more than two thousand ISIS militants in Mosul since the beginning of the operation.

“Initial reports on the ongoing military operations in Mosul indicate that over 2,000 ISIS militants have been liquidated since the start of the operation, including important leadership figures,” Gen. Najm Jubbouri said.

Jubbouri, in charge of Iraqi military operations in the Nineveh province of which Mosul is the capital, said armed forces were less than four miles away from Mosul’s western front.

Back on October 17, the Iraqi prime minister announced a campaign to reclaim the key ISIS stronghold, with mixed forces of Iraqi army, Kurdish forces and Arab tribesmen advancing from south, east and north.
