5,000 Chinese Terrorists Arrive in Syria through Turkey

Chinese Terrorists

Approximately 5,000 fighters from the restive northwest Chinese region of Xinjiang are fighting alongside militants in Syria, Syria’s Ambassador to China Imad Moustapha told Sputnik.

“First, the number of terrorists originating from China has increased significantly with the course of the conflict. At present we can talk about 5,000 fighters,” Moustapha said.

The diplomat noted that, because many of them travel with families, “we now have Chinese children in Syria who publish their videos on YouTube with swords and Kalashnikovs in their hands and talking about jihad in Syria.”

china-terroristMoustapha said around half of the militants ally themselves with the outlawed ISIS terrorist group, while the other half allies with the outlawed militant group formerly known as the Nusra Front. He further claimed that “100 percent of the Chinese fighters crossed into Syria through Turkey.”

“Turkey is fighting Daesh [ISIS] now, but in the course of 4.5 years all foreign Daesh fighters moved to Syria through Turkey. It is a sad reality,” Moustapha asserted.

Kuwait Says Iran Will Take Action against Those Who Insulted Their Emir

Kuwait-iran

Khaled al-Jarallah, the Kuwaiti deputy FM, was quoted by Al-Jaridah newspaper as saying that the Islamic Republic of Iran is opposed to any insult to Kuwaiti Emir Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

His remarks came after Iran’s Foreign Ministry said it disapproves of a picture going viral in the social media that depicts a move insulting to Kuwaiti officials in the Friday’s rallies marking the victory anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, slamming the move to disseminate the image as suspicious.

In comments on Friday evening, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi deplored the suspicious measure to disseminate such an insulting picture allegedly taken during the Friday rallies in Iran, saying it was aimed at harming relations between Iran and Kuwait.

The image that insults the Kuwaiti officials and some other leaders of the neighboring countries “contains an untrue perception of this neighboring state (Kuwait),” and is rejected by the Iranian government and nation, he underlined.

Qassemi noted that anti-US or anti-Israeli protests would be natural given their brazen hostility towards Iran, but the painting that was insulting to Kuwait runs counter to the “good relations” between Tehran and Kuwait City, to their “friendly and constructive” contacts, and to the goals of the Islamic Revolution that entail unity among the Muslim nations.

Iran and Kuwait have developed closer political relations in recent years, and have held several sessions of a Joint Political Committee, Tasnim reported.

In late January, Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Khalid al-Hamad al-Sabah paid a visit to Tehran and held meetings with senior Iranian officials, including President Hassan Rouhani, who is going to visit Kuwait later today (Wednesday afternoon, February 15).

Armenians Proud of Living in Islamic Republic of Iran: Syrian MP

Nora Airisian

Speaking to Tasnim, Airisian hailed the peaceful coexistence of Armenians and others in Iran, noting that many Armenian churches and newspapers are freely operating across the country.

All Armenians around the world are proud of this, Airisian went on to say.

The history of Armenian migration to Iran goes back to thousands of years ago. Iranian-Armenians are one of the strongest and most active groups of Armenians in Diaspora and they have done some great political, economic, and cultural contributions to the Iranian society.

Future Belongs to Those Carrying Flag of Resistance

Elsewhere in the interview, she described the Resistance Front as stable and lasting despite all the propaganda and plots against it, saying that the future belongs to those who carry the flag of resistance.

The Syrian lawmaker said the West is trying to create the impression that the axis of resistance is falling, but it will continue to remain lasting and stable.

“The future belongs to those who carry the flags of resistance and patriotism,” she added.

Idea of National Reconciliation Is Meaningless: Iran’s Leader

Leader-Azarbaijan

Addressing a meeting in Tehran with a group of people from the northwestern province of East Azarbaijan, the Leader said the idea of ‘national reconciliation’ does not make any sense as Iranian people are already united.

“Some people talk about ‘national reconciliation’; however, that does not make sense to me: the people are already united. So why do you talk about reconciliation? Are the people against each other?” Ayatollah Khamenei said, referring to the idea raised by such figures as former president Mohammad Khatami and incumbent president Hassan Rouhani.

“Yes, people are against those who took to the streets on the day of Ashura [in 2009], beating and stripping the young basiji shamelessly and brutally. They are against them, and they will not reconcile with them,” the Leader added.

“In certain political issues, two people might have conflicts of opinion with each other, but this is not important and effective, and is regarded something normal and natural,” Ayatollah Khamenei added, according to the official website of his office.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei rejected as “sheer lies” the claims that a military confrontation with Iran would have been imminent, had it not been for the nuclear deal that was signed between Tehran and the P5+1 group of states in July 2015.

“Why do they mention war? In order to divert minds towards war,” said the Leader, describing the economic pressure and sanctions as the “real war” against Iran.

The threat of a military action has been used as a strategy in dealing with the Islamic Republic by both the previous and current US administrations, Ayatollah Khamenei said.

Ayatollah Khamenei pointed to the enemy plots to pile up economic pressure against Iran to spread disappointment among the public, calling on to redouble their efforts to address the economic woes in the country, including unemployment and inflation.

Leader-AzarbaijanThe Leader also said enemies have failed in their attempts to portray the Islamic establishment in Iran as inefficient and such attempts amount to beating the air, Press TV reported.

On February 10, people from all walks of life rallied in different cities and towns across the country to celebrate the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, which toppled the former US-backed regime and set the stage for the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Prior to the rallies, the Leader had called on the nation to attend the demonstrations en masse in response to the new US administration’s hostile rhetoric and threats against the Islamic Republic.

The Leader on Wednesday pointed to people’s massive presence in the rallies, and said, “This year the march on the revolution’s anniversary brought about respect and dignity for the country. I cannot express my gratitude to the nation, we should thank God for them. It is the third and fourth generations of the revolution who come forth standing against the enemy, expressing their will determinedly.”

Ayatollah Khamenei further added, “The officials should not think people’s presence in the demonstrations means they don’t have any complaint against we the officials and our activities; people have their complaints. People do not approve of discrimination and negligence of certain problems.”

Iran’s President Felicitates Serbia on National Day

He expressed the hope that given the current potentials of the two nations, the ties between the Islamic Republic and the Republic of Serbia would further develop in all fields of mutual interest.

The Iranian president further wished Nikolic health and success and hoped for the Serbian nation’s prosperity and happiness.

Iran Can Link Europe to Indian Ocean, East Asia: Rouhani

Iran Can Link Europe to Indian Ocean

rouhaniIranian President highlighted the opportunities for enhanced cooperation between Iran and Europe, particularly Luxembourg, and stressed that Tehran can link Europe to the Indian Ocean and East Asia via a transit route.

In a meeting with Foreign Minister of Luxembourg Jean Asselborn in Tehran on Tuesday, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani highlighted the ample opportunities for cooperation between Iran and Luxembourg, referring to “banking and insurance issues” as the key to enhancement of economic relations.

Iran can satisfy part of Europe’s demands for energy, and also link Europe to the Indian Ocean and East Asia via a transit route, President Rouhani went on to say, Tasnim reported.

For his part, the Luxembourgian minister hailed Iran as a great nation in the region, saying both his country and the European Union acknowledge “Tehran’s major and influential role” in settlement of regional conflicts.

Iran, Luxembourg Agree to Support Investments

Earlier in the day, high-ranking officials of Iran and Luxembourg signed an agreement to support investments and improve banking ties.

Economy Minister Ali Tayyebnia met with Asselborn, at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance in Tehran to sign an agreement promoting mutual support for investments with the goal of guaranteeing investment safety for the businesspeople of both countries, Financial Tribune reported.

“Iran’s policy is to improve ties with European countries, especially Luxembourg,” Tayyebnia said, adding that the agreement is a sign of mutual goodwill and interest toward developing economic relations.

tayebnia

While improving banking ties with the small but economically strong European country remains a key issue following the lifting of international sanctions on Iran, Tayyebnia noted that the progress has not been satisfactory.

The minister hoped that the next visit to Luxembourg by Central Bank of Iran Governor Valiollah Seif, accompanied by a number of bank CEOs, would further enhance bilateral banking ties.

Tayyebnia emphasized Iran’s interest in signing an agreement to eliminate additional taxes, which he said would prove significant along with the reestablishment of relations between the two countries’ banks.

“Iran’s capital market is also in favor of creating ties with Luxembourg’s financial institutions,” he said.

Asselborn, who arrived in Tehran as part of a business delegation comprising 40 representatives from Luxembourg companies and Chamber of Commerce figures, said his country wants to expand collaboration with Iran in air transportation and direct investment.

The Luxembourg delegation is headed by Economy Minister Etienne Schneider.

Asselborn earlier paid a visit to Tehran in late November to meet the CBI governor. At the time, both officials welcomed the gradual establishment of correspondent banking relations.

The minister also met with his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Javad Zarif, on Monday. The Iranian foreign minister deemed the current situation suitable for further development of relations with EU member states, saying the country is ready to improve its banking links with Luxembourg.

Russian Official Calls Off Iran Visit Due to ‘Technical Reasons’

DmitryRogozin

Rogozin had planned to visit Tehran, where he was to meet with Iranian Vice-President for Science and Technology Sourena Sattari and Defence Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan, wrote on Tuesday the newspaper Kommersant.

Earlier, Iran’s Mehr News Agency had quoted Iranian Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaei as saying that Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak and First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov will accompany Rogozin in his official visit within the next month.

He reportedly planned to discuss prospects of bilateral cooperation, primarily in the aviation sector, raising the question of the procurement by Iran of Russian passenger planes.

A source in the Russian government added that the parties planned to discuss “sensitive topics”. In particular, the newspaper writes, Rogozin was going to ask the Islamic Republic about the reasons for the interest of Iranian partners in the purchase of planes from Western countries.”

According to sources, the reason for the cancellation was that the Iranian side disclosed information about the upcoming visit of the official, while Moscow hoped to keep the trip secret.

Iranian President Congratulates Turkmen Counterpart on Re-Election

Rouhani-Hassan

President Rouhani expressed the hope that Berdimuhamedov’s new term would result in further expansion of relations between the two neighboring countries.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has always considered Turkmenistan as its neighbor and a partner in the region and is ready to boost fruitful cooperation with it in all fields,” Rouhani noted.

The Iranian president also wished health and success for President Berdimuhamedov and prosperity for the Turkmenistan nation.

Turkmenistan’s Central Election Committee said that President Berdimuhamedov has won his third presidential term with 97.69% of the vote.

Berdimuhamedov was largely expected to secure his post when voting in the Central Asian republic got underway on Sunday.

Eight contenders competed against the Turkmen president-elect in the latest election, whose turnout stood at 97.27 percent of the population.
