Iranian General Vows to Write ‘Death to Israel’ on All Bullets

Brigadier General Gholam-Hossein Gheybparvar, the head of Basij [volunteer forces] Organisation, severely censured comments by Hassan Rouhani, one of the six candidates contesting in Iran’s May 19 presidential elections, saying the IRGC will continue to write “Death to Israel” not only on its missiles, but also on its bullets.

According to a report by IFP, addressing the second live presidential debate on Friday (May 5), Rouhani implicitly criticized the IRGC’ move, in March 2016, to write “Israel should be wiped off the Earth” in Hebrew on one of the ballistic missiles it tested shortly after the going into effect of the nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers.

In reaction to Rouhani’s remarks, Gheybparvar said, “The Zionist regime […] has increased its hostility towards Iran on a daily basis.”

“How is it possible that after being witness to the Zionist regime’s fierce and long-standing enmity towards Iran, some people still criticize writing ‘Death to Israel’ on our missiles,” Basij Press quoted him as saying.

“We will write it [the slogan] on the bullets as well. In fact, wiping out Israel, is our aspiration and an indisputable strategy which needs a strong determination,” Gheybparvar added.

He said the phrase “Death to Israel” is a strategic slogan, adding all of the world’s noble people and freethinkers are proud that Iran has become powerful enough to stand against the enemy chest-to-chest.

Gheybparvar expressed surprise at seeing some people cast doubt on the Establishment’s great achievements in a bid to win more votes.

Iran’s battle with Israel is a non-negotiable issue and unquestionable fact, he said, adding, “Who does have any doubt that Israel is not the main source of all crimes in Palestine and Lebanon? Who believes that Arab rulers and Israel are not each other’s accomplice?”

Leader Warns against Enemy Plots to Disrupt Iran’s Security

Speaking at Tehran’s Imam Hossein University on Wednesday, Ayatollah Khamenei said “the short-term goal sought by the enemy is to disrupt security, and bring about melee and sedition in the country.”

The Leader added that the Islamic Republic has been able “to create a safe environment in a region rife with tensions and a world rife with frenzy,” stressing that enemies seek to take this honor away from the Iranian nation.

“If we stand prepared to confront this plot to create insecurity and sedition, we will surely be able to neutralize it,” Ayatollah Khamenei asserted.

The mid-term goal pursued by the enemy, the Leader stated, comprises damaging Iran’s economy through various means so that the people lose their hope due to austere economic conditions.

Leader Warns against Enemy Plots to Disrupt Iran's SecurityAyatollah Khamenei noted that in the long run, the enemies are trying to “change the essence of [Iran’s] Islamic establishment.”

The Leader said there was a time when the enemies unequivocally insisted that the Islamic Republic be destroyed.

However, after finding out about their incapacity to realize the ambition and its adverse consequences for them, the enemies modified the assertion by saying that the Republic had to instead change its attitude, the Leader added.

1-Leader Warns against Enemy Plots to Disrupt Iran's SecurityThe Leader said the initial plot and the altered version are in fact one and the same.

Highlighting the importance of the May 19 presidential election, Ayatollah Khamenei urged everyone to submit to the law and morality and refuse to hearten the enemy by making inapt remarks.

The elections, the Leader said, need security and calm, adding, “Should anyone seek to rise up against the country’s security, they will sure be met with a strong reaction.”

The Leader underlined that the efforts aimed at adversely affecting the Islamic Republic during its presidential elections of 2008 were faced with “the firm wall of national will.”

“The same holds true today. The country’s security should stay untouched. Those who choose to violate this course should know that they will be given a slap in the face,” Ayatollah Khamenei cautioned.

“Arab States’ Man-Made Islands Threatening Persian Gulf Environment”

Man-Made Islands

Iranian lawmaker Ali Akbari says construction and selling of man-made islands by a number of Arab nations in the Persian Gulf has negative impacts on the environment of all littoral states around the gulf and will lead to several adverse environmental consequences for the regional countries.

Reaction Required

According to a report by IFP, Akbari stressed that the Iranian Interior Ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should show reaction to the move by these Arab states.

As per the Kuwait Regional Convention for Cooperation on the Protection of the Marine Environment from Pollution, signed by Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE in Kuwait on April 24, 1978, he noted, each state should endeavour to carry out an assessment of the potential environmental effects in any planning activity entailing projects within its territory, particularly in the coastal areas, which may have significant risks of pollution for the gulf.

“Therefore, since the construction of these islands has damaging consequences for the environment, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is required to use shrewd diplomacy and ask the international environmental centres to address and tackle the international issue.”

Aquatics, Corals Endangered

Akbari expressed concern over the fact that constructing man-made residential islands in the Persian Gulf leads to the extinction of certain aquatic and corals species, adding the absence of coral species would lead to severe pollution of the coasts in the region, particularly the Iranian ones, as they act as natural filters and help clean water.

In addition, he noted, the unrestrained use of water desalinators by some Arab states in the Persian Gulf has increased the salinity of the gulf’s water, which, per se, upsets the balance of its ecosystem.

Iran Presidential Candidates Making More Promises

In an address to his female supporters in a stadium in the capital Tehran on Tuesday, President Hassan Rouhani, who is seeking reelection, said his performance obviously reflects his opposition to “gender discrimination” and “gender oppression.”

“The [1979 Islamic] Revolution was a success because women entered the scene. Today, if women step on the election scene, if all go to the polls, we will definitely be successful,” he said.

The Iranian people have chosen the path of social and political freedom as well as freedom of thought and expression, Rouhani said, adding that he is seeking “genuine security” along with unity.

‘Revolutionary management key to progress’

Addressing his supporters in the city of Kerman, another candidate Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi highlighted the economic woes gripping Iranians and said the resource-rich nation of Iran does not deserve to be held back by such problems as absolute poverty, youth unemployment and corruption.

He furthered underlined the importance of “self-esteem,” stressing that “revolutionary management” could produce “great honors” for the nation.

Raeisi, a senior judicial official and head of Astan Qods Razavi, also noted that the “main problem in our country is not lack of liquidity, equipment and resources, but rather weak executive and economic management.”

Qalibaf to go for national welfare

Another rival, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, told his supporters in the southwestern city of Ahvaz that he will strive to create “welfare, peace and security” for all people, if elected president.

He also highlighted his achievements as the mayor of Tehran and said poverty has no place in the society, blaming poor management for the high poverty rate in a resource-rich country.

Aqa-Mirsalim urges focus on human resources

Presidential contender Mostafa Aqa-Mirsalim also told students in the city of Isfahan that human resources have fallen into oblivion in Iran, saying progress would be achieved only with the help of educated, dedicated and clean-handed lecturers and students.

The former culture minister also accused the current government of failing to adhere to the principles of resistance economy.

Inflation was lowered under Rouhani’s administration, but it still exists, he pointed out.

Hashemi-Taba wants enhanced investment

Mostafa Hashemi-Taba also said in a televised speech that the main task facing the next administration is to use domestic capital and boost investment.

The former vice president also criticized the distribution of monthly cash subsidies among people and called for moving in the direction of implementing the resistance economy.

Jahangiri stresses ‘justice’

First Vice-President Es’haq Jahangiri, who is also running for presidency, said all Iranians should enjoy social and economic justice.

He defended the Rouhani administration’s policies and highlighted the importance of social and economic justice. He also said that the private sector should be assured that it is “the basis for Iran’s economic development.”

“Today people trust the government and this trust serves as a huge resource for the government,” he said.

Iranians will go to the polls on May 19 to elect the country’s next president. Over 56 million people are eligible to vote.

The six presidential candidates have outlined their plans in two live TV debates so far, with the third televised program scheduled for May 12.

“Iran’s Environment Can’t Stand Unwise Decisions”

Masoumeh EbtekarIn a speech on the necessity of people’s participation in Iran’s May 19 presidential election on Sunday (May 7), the head of Iran’s Department of Environment, Masoumeh Ebtekar, urged Iranians to learn their lesson from the past bitter experiences and make optimum use of their right to vote to help guarantee the continuation of the projects underway by the incumbent government.

According to a report by IFP, she said, “Let’s use our right to vote to prevent the recurrence of the past bitter experiences.”

She added the wrong decisions made in the past have been the main cause of the numerous problems the domestic economy has been and is still beset with as well as the difficulties the country and its people have run into in the past few years.

“Iran’s forests, lagoons and Lake Urmia [in northwestern Iran] can no longer tolerate imprudence. Let’s use our right [to vote] and let Iran’s nature to breathe again. Let us contribute to the continuation of the plans that have already been launched to make the environment healthy.

“Let’s use our right [to vote] to be able to breathe in clean air.”

She added the environmental plans implemented in President Rouhani’s administration have helped improve air quality in the country’s metropolises and led to a reduction in the amount of dangerous pollutants, such as benzene – which is carcinogenic and has increased the number of people suffering from cancer in the country – in the air in the Iranian cities.

Ebtekar said currently, the amount of air pollutants in Iranian cities have reached a standard level.

“Let’s take part in the election to help guarantee the continuation of the plans [started by the incumbent government]. Let’s use our right to prevent a security atmosphere from pervading the country and to be able to remove the limitations faced by domestic media and activists.

“By making use of our right to vote, we can continue doing our activities freely in the society, voice our criticism and have freedom after speech,” she added.

Almost all newspapers today continued covering the remarks made by Iranian presidential candidates, particularly the three main rivals Hassan Rouhani, Ebrahim Raisi, and Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.

Conservative papers criticized the filtering of a website launched by Qalibaf for unemployed people, and said Rouhani has blocked the website to launch his own version.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif’s comments about Iran’s foreign policy and the false promises made by certain candidates also received great coverage.

Iran Should Be Informed of Any Wall Construction in Turkey Border

Iran Should Be Informed of Any Wall Construction in Turkey Border

The source added on Tuesday that Iran welcomes Turkey’s plan and does not oppose it; however, Ankara must notify Tehran before any move.

The Iranian official further said the Islamic Republic has no problem with Turkey adopting a new measure in the Iranian-Turkish border as part of what Ankara describes as security strategies.

The source added that the construction of the wall would prevent smuggling of billions of dollars of goods from Turkey to Iran and expressed hope the plan would be implemented as soon as possible.

A high-level Turkish official told Hürriyet daily on Monday that Ankara plans to build a wall on its border with Iran to prevent Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants from entering the country from a camp in Iran.

This as Iran is also fighting a PKK offshoot in its northwestern border region with Turkey. Iranian forces killed five PJAK terrorists in an ambush there last June.

PJAK randomly carries out hit-and-run attacks on Iranian targets, after which they retreat to their lairs in Iraq and Turkey.

Turkey has previously built more than 550 kilometers of wall along the Syrian border in order to prevent the PKK and Daesh Takfiri terrorists from carrying out acts of terror.

The Iranian team drew 1-1 with Al Jazira of the UAE in Ahvaz’s Ghadir Stadium.

Humaid Ahmed gave the visiting team the lead shortly before the interval when he found the back of the net from outside the area to give the bottom side hope of a first win of the campaign.

With just four minutes remaining, substitute Mehdi Zobeidi rose highest to head home Hassan Beit Saeid’s cross from the right.

Table-topper Lekhwiya of Qatar defeated third-placed Al Fateh 4-1 in the other Group B game of the night.

Iranian FM Congratulates Haniya on Appointment as New Hamas Chief

In a congratulatory message on Tuesday, the senior Iranian diplomat reminded Haniya of “the heavy responsibility” he has taken on amid the “special conditions in Palestine and in the region.”

Zarif also wished Haniya luck in his post by tapping into the “precious experiences” of followers of the glorious path of resistance in order to thwart the plots hatched by the “Zionist enemy and its overt and covert allies,” who he said attempt to harm Muslim unity and sow sedition with the aim of consigning the cause of Palestine to oblivion.

Iranian FM Congratulates Haniya on Appointment as New Hamas Chief

On May 6, 2017, Hamas, the Palestinian political movement that rules Gaza Strip, elected Ismail Abdulsalam Ahmed Haniya, 54, as the head of the group’s political bureau, replacing Khaled Meshaal.

It comes as the group is introducing changes to its organizational structure and policies towards Israel.

Haniya, who lives in Gaza, has a reputation for being pragmatic and flexible. His election is seen by some analysts as being in line with the movement’s decision to accept a Palestinian state on 1967 borders, a position he has long supported.
