Iran Dismisses White House Statement on Prisoners

In a statement on Saturday, Bahram Qassemi slammed the White House statement as false and unacceptable, saying that as usual it is an example of interference in Iran’s domestic affairs.

Qassemi stressed that like other democratic Establishments, the judiciary, courts and judges in the Islamic Republic of Iran are completely independent.

“Under the domestic laws and regulations of Iran and within the framework of the principle of separation of powers, the judiciary has the responsibility of a stringent judicial review based on a fair trial of any act and conduct which is contrary to the country’s national security,” Qassemi underlined.

The Islamic Republic of Iran deals with such acts and conducts based on its own regulations, and the release of meddlesome and threatening statements by US authorities and institutions will have no impact on the will and determination of the country’s judicial system to prosecute and punish the perpetrators and violators of Iran’s laws and national security, he added.

“According to the judicial authorities of Iran, based on the Islamic Republic’s laws, there are charges against the individuals mentioned in the White House statement and their charges will be investigated based on the country’s laws.”

“As it has been repeatedly announced to the US officials, a person named Robert Levinson has had a trip to Iran many years ago and after leaving the country, the Islamic Republic has had no new information about his fate,” he added.

The spokesman also underlined that Washington’s interference in other countries’ domestic affairs besides threatening them is a false practice which is against international rules and regulations.

“Such threats arise from the meddlesome and arrogant nature of the US government. Iran’s revolutionary nation has a long history and rich experience in rejecting bullying and confronting such hostile behaviours.”

“The Islamic Republic of Iran, as it has repeatedly proved, does not accept any form of imposition and bullying under any circumstances. The American statesmen should speak to the great nation of Iran with the language of respect,” Qassemi underpinned.

‎Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman also talked about the United States’ breaking of promises and also releasing of statements that are unconventional and contrary to the internationally-recognized rules.

Qassemi reminded the US authorities to immediately release Iranian prisoners kept in the United States, who in recent years have been subjected to harsh and inappropriate conditions.

He said they [the Iranian prisoners in US] have been incarcerated for false and baseless accusations, stressing that the move is against all moral and human standards.

The Iranian diplomat also called on the US officials to stop prosecution of a number of Iranian citizens in other countries, especially one of the cases who died due to an unconditional request for extradition by the United States.

The White House in a statement on Friday warned that Iran would face “new and serious consequences” unless all unjustly detained American citizens were released and returned.

In an anonymous letter to the organization offering public bus services, the Iranian citizen in the northwestern Iranian province of West Azarbaijan has apologized to the authority for having broken a “bar fastener” on the bus back in 2006, and asked for forgiveness.

Five-hundred thousand rials (roughly equal to $13) in cash has also been attached to the letter as compensation, according to a Farsi report by Khabar Online.

In response, the managing director of the organization thanked the anonymous writer, and expressed hope all fellow countrymen will be as responsible and caring about public property.

He also ordered the money to be deposited at the organization’s bank account.

Iran Launches Line for Mass Production of New Air Defence Missile

The production line of the state-of-the-art missiles was inaugurated during a ceremony on Saturday with Brigadier General Dehqan and Commander of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili in attendance.

During the event, a number of the long-range missiles were also delivered to the Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base.

Addressing the ceremony, Brigadier General Dehqan said the Sayyad-3 missiles have an operational range of 120 km and are able to fly at an altitude of 27km and designed to hit medium and long-range air threats.

Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere.

Tehran has always assured other nations that its military might poses no threat to regional countries and others, saying that the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.

“There is no import and export of goods between the two countries,” Head of Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization, Mojtaba Khosrow-Taj, said.

According to a Farsi report by ISNA, he stressed that today Iran imports some goods like food stuff from the Arab countries of the region.

“Iran’s policy has always been based on promoting relations with the neighbouring nations. We have never boycotted any of them, but some of them have already limited their trade ties with the Islamic Republic.”

Khosrow-Taj also said the Iranian government has not ordered the private sector to restrict their ties with the regional states.

“We have not limited their operations,” he noted.

Iran's President Lauds Ayatollah Sistani’s Vital Role after Controversy

Ayatollah Sistani has dismissed the concept of exacting revenge on ISIS terrorists taken captive, according to a Farsi report by SNN.

The senior cleric said the terrorists and their accomplices captured by Iraqi troops in Mosul should not be mistreated or tortured.

He said the mistreatment of ISIS captives is religiously and legally forbidden.

Ayatollah Sistani noted that the captives must be handed over to the Judiciary, and stressed the need to protect the lives of citizens.

A large number of ISIS militants were taken captive by Iraqi force in the operation to liberate Mosul.

ISIS militants made swift advances in northern and western Iraq over the summer of 2014, after capturing swaths of northern Syria.

Afterwards, a combination of concentrated attacks by the Iraqi military and the volunteer forces, who rushed to take arms after Ayatollah Sistani issued a fatwa calling for the fight against the militants, blunted the edge of ISIS offensive and forced the terrorist group withdraw from much of the areas it had occupied.

The northern city of Mosul was finally liberated a few days ago.

Iran Must Pull Out of Nuclear Deal: Senior Cleric

Addressing a huge gathering of worshippers on Friday, Iran Leader’s representative in Mashhad Ayatollah Ahmad Alamolhoda referred to the nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, and said he is amazed how on earth the officials in charge of Iran’s foreign policy have remained silent towards the US scandalous breach of promises over the past two years.

However, he added, I’m happy to see that the officials have finally expressed explicitly that Iran would pull out of the nuclear deal if the US continues to breach its promises.

Withdrawing from the JCPOA means recovering a serious loss, he noted, adding that the loss threatens the country’s independence.

“Whenever we stood firmly against the US and punched it in the face, it has been forced to sit back disgracefully,” he noted, according to a Farsi report by Entekhab.

He said the enemies have targeted Iran’s economy and this is part of their policy to force Iranians to sit for talks by exerting economic pressures on them.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Zarif warned that any major JCPOA violation on behalf of the US may result in Tehran’s withdrawal from the nuclear deal.

In an interview the National Interest earlier this week, Zarif said if it comes to a major violation, or what in terms of the nuclear deal is called significant non-performance, then Iran has other options available, including withdrawing from the deal.

“The first bus equipped with evaporative cooler has been unveiled in the province and we are planning to overhaul and equip 20 old buses with the cooler over the next couple of months,” said Mojtaba Khanjani, the head of Sistan and Baluchestan Bus Company.

According to a Farsi report by IQNA, Khanjani went on saying that after the overhaul process, the old buses will provide the provincial commuters with easy inter-urban trips.

“After the overhaul, the old buses will also be equipped with a library. Meanwhile, their seats are totally changed,” he noted.

Khanjani also said about $1,000 has been spent to renew the first bus which is equipped with evaporative cooler to counter the extreme heat in the province.

Elaborating on the advantages of equipping the provincial buses with an evaporative cooler, he said, “The cost of maintenance of such ventilators is too low.”

He added the cost is not comparable at all with that of the vapour-compression refrigeration system.

“With the opening and closing of the buses’ doors, no big change is made in the temperature of the weather inside the busses,” Khanjani noted.

He also said evaporative coolers can keep cool the weather inside the buses even at the hot weather of 40 degrees celcius. The electricity for the coolers is provided by the buses’ engines without posing any dangers to the commuters.

“The required water for the coolers is also pumped from a reservoir installed under the busses,” he said.

“The first bus equipped with evaporative cooler in Iran was unveiled in the southern province of Kerman, and Sistan and Baluchestan province is among the pioneering provinces in this field,” he concluded.

Iran Studying Plan to Hand Out Diluted Drugs to Addicts

Iranian lawmakers have adopted a motion to distribute diluted narcotics among drug addicts in a bid to cut off their relationship with drug traffickers, said Hassan Norouzi, the spokesperson for the Parliament’s Judicial and Legal Commission.

“The plan to distribute [low-grade] drugs is similar to what used to be implemented before the [1979 Iran’s Islamic] Revolution,” he noted, according to a Farsi report by ILNA.

He said all relevant authorities have given the go-ahead to the proposal.

“Given the special emphasis that the Establishment’s macro-policies put on the necessity of cutting off the relationship between drug addicts and narco-traffickers, we decided that the government hand out diluted drugs to addicts, so that they will be able to give up their addiction gradually and, instead of being drawn to drug-traffickers, turn to the Establishment and meet their needs through official channels,” he said.

He then noted that the commission will continue its work to finalize the plan’s approval.

As for what kinds of narcotics the government is to distribute among drug addicts, he said, “These drugs include methadone and substances more diluted than previous ones, and the authority to decide on that rests with bylaws which are to be jointly drawn up by the Ministry of Justice and [Iran’s] Drug Enforcement HQ, and which could come into effect after getting the all clear from the Cabinet,” said the top lawmaker.

He was asked whether or not the proposal provides for the substitution of industrial drugs. In response, the spokesman said, “The same bylaws will be the reference to make a decision on that, and our objective is to sever the relation between drug addicts and narco-traffickers.’

He underscored the representatives of all authorities involved in the proposal were present at the meeting of the commission and all agreed to the plan.

Which Markets in Iran Are Most Profitable?

Which Markets in Iran Are Most Profitable

During the past years, some emerging markets in Iran have grabbed the attentions of investors including the sale and purchase of Mobile SIM Cards, vehicles and so on. But there are five markets with the largest amount of profitability: stock trading, banking, gold, currency, and real estate.

According to a Farsi report by the Iran daily newspaper, the Islamic Republic underwent deep changes in the aforementioned markets under former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. About ten years ago, the real estate market topped the list of most thriving markets in Iran with a rapid growth in average apartment prices per square metre. About five years later, the currency (and to some extent the gold) market ranked first at the list among most profitable markets in Iran. The investors made considerable profits in this market due to the unprecedented fluctuations of gold prices.

But the economic stability was restored to Iran’s economy after the inflation rate fell and the emotional fluctuations of bank deposits began to decrease. This paved the way for the financial market to replace the top thriving markets.

Today, as a low risk investment, the bank deposits have begun to attract the attentions of the investors. Meanwhile, the Iranian banks’ decision to raise the interest rate of their deposits to 25 percent (from 15 percent approved by the government) made the deposits a safe investment for people. But despite the changes, it is not clear yet whether or not the market will remain at the top of the most profitable markets in Iran by the end of the current Iranian calendar.

In the latest survey conducted by the Iranian state-run TV on the profitability of different markets in Iran, most of the viewers voted for stock exchange as the most profitable market. According to the survey, 40.6 percent of the participants said trading stocks is more profitable compared with gold and real estate markets. Meanwhile, bank deposits with 25.25 percent ranked second in the list. Gold and real estate markets stood respectively as the third and fourth profitable markets in Iran.

 

Profitability of Iranian Markets over Past Year

A brief overview of the profits gained in the financial, gold and real estate markets over the past year reveals that the financial market rank first with a profit of 18.79 percent. But since the interest rate of bank deposits are considered riskless, the real profitability of this market has been negative over the past year.

A report by the Research and Development Department of Iran’s Stocks Company says after over-the-counter, the profitability of coin, stocks and dollar markets stand respectively as the second to fourth in the list of most profitable markets. In a period of 9, 6 and 3 months, the nominal profits of financial, coin and real estate markets were less than the profits of the low risk market of the bank deposits. In other words, the economic loss of investments in each of the mentioned markets is more than those in the bank deposits.

While the nominal profits of financial market have been positive in a nine-month period, the nominal profits of currency and stocks markets have been negative in the six-month period. In a three-month period, after bank deposits, the nominal profits of over-the-counter, stocks and coin markets have been respectively 3.29, 1.59 and 1.01 percent providing the investors with the highest profits compared with other markets.

During the same period, the profit of dollar market has been minus 0.16 and the profit of real estate experienced a limited growth of 0.74 percent. This comes as observers say if the interest rate is decreased by the Central Bank in the coming weeks, we are going to see a deep change in the ranking of the most profitable markets in the near future. The order of the list will also change when the markets are evaluated by their real profit which is calculated by decreasing the current inflation rate from the nominal profit rate.

 

Real Estate Market

The average apartment price per square metre in Tehran began to rise steadily during the first three months of the current Iranian calendar year after a short drop in the first month.

Observers expected that the average apartment prices keep up their growth steadily. This is mainly due to the annual growth of the real estate market in the first three months of the Iranian calendar year as well as the growing inflation rate over the past months. Reports say, during the first three months of the current Iranian calendar year, the average apartment price per square metre in Tehran increased by 4.9 percent compared with the same period last year.

 

Gold Coin Market

The coin and gold market won the title of the most profitable market of Iran last year. In the current Iranian calendar year, the market experienced a considerable instability. In the first 90 days of the current Iranian calendar year, the fluctuation of the gold price experienced a limited 1 percent growth. This comes as the average gold coin price has had an 11.11 percent growth in the same period.

 

Foreign Currency Market

Iran’s currency market has had a stable condition over the past four months. The price of one US dollar in the first three months of the current Iranian calendar year has experienced limited fluctuations. By the end of the first three months of the year, we also witnessed a decrease in the price of all currencies. The profitability of the currency market during the first three months of this year dropped to minus 0.9 percent. Meanwhile, the average price of one US dollar decreased by 2.16 percent compared with last year. The average price of each US dollar had a 1.23 percent growth compared with the same period five years ago.

 

Stock Exchange Market

In the first three months of the current Iranian calendar year, out of 38 active industries in Tehran Stock Exchange, 23 industries had a considerable profitability, 13 industries experienced losses and 2 industries remained unchanged in financial terms. The three groups of Coal Extraction, Coal Mining and Paper Production were ranked as high-risk industries. On the other hand, banks, financial institutions, communication and textiles industries were ranked as low-risk industries. Out of 38 industries in Tehran Stock Exchange market, the Paper Production Group with 68 percent profitability provided its stakeholders with the highest profit during the first three months of the current Iranian calendar year.
