Iran, Armenia Sign MoU on Transfer of Nanotechnology

Nanotechnology

Two knowledge-based companies form Iran and Armenia inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the field of technology transfer.

The document was signed in a two-day Iran-Armenia conference on nanotechnology and science aimed at identifying the common potentialities that the two sides have in the field of nanotechnology.

According to a Farsi report by ISNA, the event held in the Armenian capital, Yerevan, brought together officials as well as representatives of nanotechnology firms from both countries.

The conference featured different activities, including the “exchange of technology” event where companies introduced their nano-products.

Among the Iranian firms which signed MoUs with Armenian counterparts were an Isfahan-based company working in the field of nano additives and masterbatch and another firm working on production of anti-cancer pharmaceuticals.

Iran, World’s Eighth Producer of Cocoons, Silk Thread

Iran, World’s Eighth Producer of Cocoons, Silk Thread

Ali-Asghar Dadashpour, the head of Iran’s Sericulture Development Center, says the country ranks eighth in the world when it comes to the production of cocoons and silk thread.

“Despite a drop in production in the 1980s, the Agriculture Ministry once again put plans on its agenda to revive the sericulture industry,” he said, according to a Farsi report by the Azad News Agency (ANA).

He said measures have been adopted to give fresh impetus to the sericulture industry in the country, including offering bank loans and grants to those working in the industry, holding training sessions to boost the knowledge of experts, buying cocoons from sericulture activists at guaranteed prices and providing them with high-quality cocoons.

He said no precise annual figures are available on the domestic need for cocoons and silk thread, urging institutions which need the products to announce the amount of cocoons and silk thread that they need a year.

Iranian, US Presidents’ UNGA Speeches Still Front-Page News

Iranian, US Presidents’ UNGA Speeches Still Front-Page News

Iranian Persian-language newspapers Ettela’at, Iran, and Shargh allocated part of their stories on September 25 to Trump and Rouhani’s UNGA speeches. The press warned about Trump’s possible adventurism vis-à-vis Iran and suggested solutions to counter Washington’s policies against Iran and the Iran nuclear deal.

Take Trump’s Idiocies Seriously

Masoud Razavi has, in an article published in Ettela’at on September 25, warned that Trump’s illogical and unconventional language and remarks should not be taken lightly. The commentator also says Trump’s comments and threats should be taken more seriously than others’ remarks due to this very lack of logic on the part of Trump and his disregard for international norms and regulations. Iran should also act very prudently when it comes to its nuclear deal with the six world powers known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

“Trump’s comments lack in logical, human and even commonly accepted political norms. However, his remarks should not be underestimated or ignored due to this lack of logic and his turning a blind eye to widely accepted political norms and international rules and accords, Trump may go for adventurism. So, we shouldn’t start playing in his court.” the analyst underlines.

At the end of his article, Razavi hails Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s speech at the UN General Assembly meeting, saying, “In my estimation, the president’s speech at the UN General Assembly was the appropriate and best response to the US and its allies and cronies.”

Mahmoud Mohammadi, a former Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, wrote in an article in the Persian-language Iran daily that “Trump’s extremism” is an opportunity for Iran’s success and victory.

“This year in the arena of New York, all factors joined hands to pit Iranian diplomacy against that of the US under Trump. Trump’s team entered the scene in a bid to undermine the JCPOA, and Rouhani’s team sat down for talks with top dignitaries aiming to safeguard the JCPOA and scuttle White House extremists’ plans,” said Mohammadi.

The former Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said thinking and dialogue based on moderation and tolerance have a miraculous effect both domestically and on the international stage.

“In the recent [UN] meeting, Rouhani represented and symbolized a way of thought which depicts Iran and Islam as symbols of unity among different groups and peaceful coexistence, and at the same time clears the image of Iranians and Muslims of the stigma of violence-seeking and extremism,” he concludes.

Javid Qorbanughli, a former top Iranian Foreign Ministry official, has, in an article published in the Shargh newspaper, praised Rouhani’s speech at the UN. He has also underlined that Iran’s peace-seeking stance against the US president’s bellicose language has promoted Iran’s status on the international stage. The analyst has also predicted Washington’s future policies on Iran and suggested solutions to counter them.

“Incontrovertibly, the United States’ military might, economic superiority, leverage and influential diplomacy in the world serve as backup for Trump’s rhetoric in order to promote warmongering policies. Although Trump’s speech will not be to the detriment of Iran that much due to support from European countries as well as Russia and China, it might be problematic for Iran on the economic front when it comes to winning foreign banks and investors’ trust.

Accordingly, it is suggested that, first of all we insist on Iran’s compliance with the nuclear deal as in the past two years and refrain from any move that would provide Trump’s adventurous team with an opportunity to launch a smear campaign against Iran. Secondly, given that Trump and the Zionist regime of Israel are focusing their attention on what they call Iran’s destabilizing activities in the region, Iran’s diplomacy should be focused on the region, enhancement of ties with neighbours and turning military achievements into political power through cooperation with other players. Thirdly, what is required to achieve these goals is unity, rapport and efforts to set aside the problems caused by differences of opinion over domestic issues. In other words, the world should hear only one voice and see only one position from Iran on regional and international issues and crises,” he writes.

Iran Repatriates Body of Martyr Hojaji from Syria

An airplane carrying the body of Martyr Mohsen Hojaji landed at Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport at 20:30 on Monday night.

A number of high-ranking Iranian officials and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) commanders attended the airport and paid tribute to the brave martyr.

The statement also called on the Iranian people from all walks of life to massively participate in the ceremony.

Earlier, the funeral of Martyr Hojaji had been slated to be held in Tehran on September 2 but the event was postponed due to some unannounced reasons.

The Lebanese Hezbollah Resistance Movement on August 31 received the body of Martyr Hojaji from Daesh based on a ceasefire deal between the two sides.

The transfer of Lebanon’s captured soldiers and two martyrs, as well as the body of Martyr Hojaji, took place after the buses carrying Daesh militants and their families arrived in the ancient city of Palmyra in Homs Province, according to media reports.

Hojaji, a holy shrine defender, was taken hostage by the Daesh Takfiri group near the Iraqi border on August 7 and was beheaded two days later.

The shrine of Sayyida Zeinab, a sister of Imam Hossein (AS), the third Shiite Imam, is located in Damascus, Syria. Iranian military advisers have played a decisive role in the protection of the holy shrine against terrorist attacks.

Iran Starts Implementation of New Law to Counter US Aggression

Rouhani-Hassan

In a letter to the Foreign Ministry, Rouhani urged the foreign ministry to implement the new law approved by the Iranian lawmakers.

The law entitled “Counteracting the US human rights violations and adventurous and terrorist moves in the region” was approved following Washington’s provocative regional acts.

The general outlines of the motion were passed with 240 votes in favour and one abstention in early August.

The 27-article draft was endorsed after it was brought forward in Parliament by the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission in July.

The move came after the US House of Representatives and then the Senate passed a sweeping package of bills on sanctions against Iran, Russia, and North Korea.

The US legislation would impose mandatory penalties on people involved in Iran’s ballistic missile program and anyone who does business with them.

Iran’s Top General Says Tel Aviv behind Kurdish Referendum

The chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Baqeri

The Zionist regime of Israel and the global arrogance are behind the referendum in Iraq’s Kurdistan, Major General Baqeri said in a gathering of Iran’s Intelligence Ministry personnel on Monday.

He also slammed the Monday’s controversial vote as a plot.

While Iraq’s Kurds rushed headlong into a vote for independence on Monday, all neighbors and countries in the Middle East, including Iran and Turkey, voiced opposition to the vote and supported the Baghdad central government.

On Monday night, thousands of Kurdish people in favor of Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG’s) secession from Iraq took to the streets in Erbil, with some waving Israeli flags to celebrate.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was the only leader in the region to endorse the referendum, while all neighbors have warned that the secession plan would bring instability to the region and disintegrate Iraq.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, held a telephone conversation on Monday to discuss the latest developments pertaining to mutual relations and regional issues.

“[Improving] regional security and safeguarding Iraq’s territorial integrity and national unity are very important and vital for the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Rouhani said, adding that coordination and cooperation among regional countries could play a prominent role in this regard.

Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region kicked off an independence referendum on Monday in the face of strong objections from the central government in Baghdad and urgent calls from the international community to scrap the vote.

Initial results are expected to be announced 24 hours after the vote. The non-binding vote on the secession of the semi-autonomous region has irked the central government.

The Iranian president held separate phone calls with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on Sunday to discuss the independence vote.

Elsewhere in his conversation with the Russian president, Rouhani welcomed the development of Tehran-Moscow relations in all fields.

He added that presidents of Iran, Russia and the Republic of Azerbaijan would hold a meeting in Tehran in the near future to discuss issues of common interest.

“We attach significance to trilateral relations among Iran, Russia and Azerbaijan,” the Iranian chief executive pointed out.

Rouhani also stated that Iran and Russia had a common stance on the crisis in Syria, adding, “[Protecting] the territorial integrity [of countries] in the region and [preventing] any change to borders are very important to the Islamic Republic of Iran and we are completely ready to continue cooperation for [holding] the next round of [Syria peace] talks in Astana.”

Representatives from the Syrian government and foreign-sponsored armed opposition held the sixth round of peace talks in the Kazakh capital of Astana in September in a bid to resolve the Syrian conflict.

The negotiations were supervised by Iran, Russia and Turkey as the mediators of the talks.

Iranian, Russian Presidents Reiterate Support for Iraq's Integrity

Russia and Iran are the main international backers of the Syrian government in its battle against foreign-backed terrorists.

At Damascus’ request, Iran has been providing military advisory support to the Syrian army in its counterterrorism operations.

Russia has been also carrying out an aerial campaign in Syria in coordination with Damascus since September 2015 to further boost the Syrian military’s anti-terror fight.

Russia backs Iraq’s territorial integrity: Putin

The Russian president, for his part, reiterated his country’s support for the central government in Baghdad and Iraq’s territorial integrity, IRNA reported.

Putin also indicated Moscow’s resolve to boost all-out relations with Iran, saying that the speedy implementation of development projects currently underway between the two countries would help promote ties.

Iran Inks Deal to Boost Date Exports via Oman

Iran Inks Deal to Boost Date Exports via Oman

The Joint Iran-Oman Chamber of Commerce has signed an agreement with the National Iranian Date Association and chambers of commerce of eight date-growing Iranian provinces in a bid to boost the Islamic Republic’s date exports.

According to a Farsi report by the Iranian Agriculture News Agency (IANA), under the deal, the two sides have undertaken to lay the groundwork for expanding Iran’s date exports to world markets such as the United States, China and Latin American countries through Oman’s SOHAR Port and Free Zone.

Among the key objectives of the deal is to pave the way for Iranian date exporters to cooperate with Omani companies, use Oman’s infrastructure, loans and customs facilities as well as its SOHAR region together with the advantages of preferential customs agreements between Oman and other countries.

Speaking on the sidelines of the conclusion of the deal, Deputy Chairman of the Joint Iran-Oman Chamber of Commerce Pedram Soltani hailed the initiative, saying similar contracts can be signed among other relevant bodies.

Mohsen Rashid Farrokhi, the chairman of the chamber, also said Oman is a suitable replacement for the Persian Gulf littoral states as it is very close to Iran in terms of cultural bonds and cooperation-wise.

He said Iran currently exports 20 percent of its date crop, and has what it takes to increase it to 30%.
