Havij-Polo; A Delicious Combination of Rice, Carrot

Havij-Polo is one of the old Iranian mixed pilafs that is usually cooked with darker orange carrots to make the food look more colorful.

Ingredients (6-8 people):

1 kg of carrots

6 cups of rice

200 grams or one cup of sugar

6 tablespoon of frying oil

Water

500 grams of minced meat

1 teaspoon of saffron

1 medium onion

Half a tablespoon of cinnamon

Salt

Recipe:

  • Wash and rinse the rice, then soak it in water for a few hours. Add salt to the water you are soaking the rice in.
  • Wash the carrots and peel off the outer skin, then slice them in small pieces.
  • Fry the grated carrots a bit in the oil. Mix the sugar with 1 cup of water and then pour it in the pan of carrots. Allow the carrots to cook until most of the water is gone. Then you can add the saffron. After some minutes, turn off the stove; now, the carrot broth is prepared.
  • Peel off the onion, wash, grate and add it to the meat. Add salt and cinnamon to the meat and knead. Form the mixture like meatballs and put them in a pan of frying oil. Leave them on heat to sauté and then add the meatballs to the carrot broth.
  • Prepare the rice by bringing it to a boil and straining it. Bring a pot and pour half a cup of water and oil into it and then put bread or potatoes at the bottom of the pot. Now cover it with a layer of strained rice. Place the carrot broth on top. Repeat this so that the rice and the broth are finished. In the end, pour some water and oil on the rice, place a towel on top of the pot and allow it to be cooked by the steam. Then fry some sliced pistachios in a little oil to design the dish.

When you are ready to serve the dish, design the pilaf with saffron and the fried pistachios.

Notes:

* Some people like Havij-Polo with chicken, so they should use chicken rather than minced meat. For this amount of Havij-Polo, you will need one and a half kilograms of chicken meat.

* As this dish contains sugar syrup and the syrup is left at the bottom of the pot, the possibility of burning is more than the other pilafs. So, either lower the heat, or use a flame spreader. Usually it takes about 45 minutes till the pilaf is ready.

Iran Providing Media Support for Knowledge-Based Companies

Iran Providing Media Support for Knowledge-Based Companies

The Science and Technology Department of Iran’s Presidential Office has designated an operator in the domain of international media to boost support for the exports of knowledge-based companies.

In line with the strategic “Resistance Economy” policy and the objectives envisaged in the 1404 Outlook Plan, the department will back the knowledge-based companies which prioritize exporting goods as well as technical and engineering services.

To that end, the media group Iran Front Page (IFP News) has passed the trial period and required tests and been designated as an operator of the Science and Technology Department of Iran’s Presidential Office to render information dissemination services. The IFP has also been picked as a member of the Technology Exchange and Exports Promotion Corridor.

According to a report by the Science and Technology Department’s website, IFP News is a website reporting news in four languages, making its presence felt on the international stage. Launched in 2014, it translates and publishes a selection of the most important news covered by Persian-language press, news agencies and websites, and has turned into a bridge between the Iranian media and the international community..

It is also running the ifpdirectory.com data bank in parallel with its news website in order to introduce Iranian companies to the international market to help promote the exports of goods as well as technical and engineering services.

The Iranian government has selected the IFP as the best choice from among local media outlets to introduce Iranian knowledge-based companies and local products to the world market on the one hand, and work towards countering Iranophobia on the other.

With the IFP working along knowledge-based companies, it is expected that the ground will be prepared for the promotion of Iranian goods and services in target societies.

‘US Worried about Qatar Leaning towards Iran’

Iran and Qatar to form joint working group for South Pars study

Iranian legislator Mohammad-Javad Abtahi has, in a Farsi interview with ICANA, weighed in on the prospects of the tension between Saudi Arabia and Qatar as well as the role of the [Persian] Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in easing tensions.

“The row between Qatar and Saudi Arabia is a historical one. In fact, during the time when the UK colonized nations and when these countries were being divided, their borders being determined and their rulers being designated, measures were adopted to make the countries always need the West. So, with the easing of this tension, another will emerge,” said Abatahi, who is a member of the Parliament’s Education and Research Commission.

“Rulers of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain are puppets of the UK, and have been moving in line with Britain’s objectives. In fact, real unity will not take shape between these countries, the same way that the establishment of the GCC led to differences and disputes among its members,” said the lawmaker.

He then explained why American senators insist that Washington not support Saudi Arabia.

“The United States’ interests are contingent upon backing for Qatar because Qatar has a suitable geographical situation and rich natural gas resources. Doha’s investments have also boosted economic potentialities in the region,” said the MP.

“Qatar’s leaning toward Iran and Turkey will prompt the White House to support Doha. So, the US will mediate between Qatar and Saudi Arabia in such a way that Saudi Arabia is put under pressure to back away from its stances on Qatar, so that Doha will edge closer to Tehran,” he noted.

“Tension between countries such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar keeps increasing and easing; still, we hope the Persian Gulf littoral states will come to realize that US and British governments have not even remained faithful to their friends; so, they (GCC rulers) had better draw up plans for their countries themselves.”

Merkel, Both Winner and Loser of German Elections

The Javan daily, in an analytic piece by Seyyed Reza Mir-Taher, described the results of the German election as a warning that shows the European right-wing parties are getting more influential and also a sort of defeat for the German Chancellor’s party.

This is the first time since World War II that a radical right-wing party i.e. the Alternative for Germany (AfD) as the third dominant party is entering the parliament.

In reaction to this, people in various German cities took to the streets on Sunday night and chanted anti-Nazism slogans. In fact, the results of the recent parliamentary elections have changed political expectations.

After the victory of the AfD in almost all state parliamentary elections, it now has entered the German lower house of parliament (Bundestag).

Even in eastern Germany, with more than 21 percent of the vote, it has become the second strongest party in the region, and is among the most popular for the male voters in East Germany.

In that sense, one can consider the German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the same time the winner and loser of the election.

Although Merkel’s party has won the highest vote, the decline in its votes, in particular compared to the 2013 elections, is considered to be a rebound in its social status and Merkel’s political position.

It can be predicted that the entry of this far-right party into the German parliament would mean opposition from the party’s representatives in Bundestag and confrontation with the new administration of Merkel.

The unprecedented victory of the AfD and its presence in the German parliament will undoubtedly have important implications. One of the consequences is the re-emergence of far- right parties in other European countries to get to the parliaments. For example, the French National Front party, whose leader Marine Le Pen was defeated in the French presidential election, has partially become isolated in recent months, but it has welcomed the victory of the AfD.

At the moment, radical right-wing parties in Europe have new hopes for victory in the elections to enter the parliaments of their countries.

Iran, World’s Eighth Producer of Cocoons, Silk Thread

Ali-Asghar Dadashpour, the head of Iran’s Sericulture Development Center, says the country ranks eighth in the world when it comes to the production of cocoons and silk thread.

“Despite a drop in production in the 1980s, the Agriculture Ministry once again put plans on its agenda to revive the sericulture industry,” he said, according to a Farsi report by the Azad News Agency (ANA).

He said measures have been adopted to give fresh impetus to the sericulture industry in the country, including offering bank loans and grants to those working in the industry, holding training sessions to boost the knowledge of experts, buying cocoons from sericulture activists at guaranteed prices and providing them with high-quality cocoons.

He said no precise annual figures are available on the domestic need for cocoons and silk thread, urging institutions which need the products to announce the amount of cocoons and silk thread that they need a year.
