Women’s Hair in Kashmir Being Chopped Off during Sleep

In recent weeks, about one hundred Kashmiri women with long hair said they have been attacked by unidentified people who havechopped off their hair.

Entekhabnews website in a Farsi report said that these women claim the crime is being committed by “braid choppers”, but do not provide further information.

No one has yet claimedseeing the “braid choppers”, and the identity and motives of the culprits is not clear yet.

Women targeted have not formally complained to the police, probably because Muslim women are reluctant to talk to strangers about such issues. However, local police say they are doing their best to address the issue, because the continuation of the situation disrupts the daily lives of people.

Some vigilante groups have been formed in response to the attacks and protest rallies held across Kashmir against the government’s “failure” to track down and apprehend the culprits.

Iran’s Beauties in Photos: Alamut Mountainous Region

Alamut, Iran

The Alamut mountainous region includes western and eastern parts in the western edge of the Alborz Mountain range, between the dry and barren plain of Qazvin in the south and the densely forested slopes of the Mazandaran province in the north.

Starting from Qazvin toward Alamut, you pass through the first range of hills, curvatures, forms; which are significant themes in nature’s composition of this area.

Two big citadels of Ismailis, Lambsar and Alamut castles, are in this area. Hassan-i Sabbah and his Hashshashin controlled the region for many years.

The beautiful mountainous region  has turned into a popular tourist destination for Iranian and foreign adventurers within the past decades.

Here are ISNA’s photos of Alamut region’s beauty:

The mosque is registered, along with the Naqsh-e Jahan Square, as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its construction began in 1611, and its splendour is mainly due to the beauty of its seven-colour mosaic tiles and calligraphic inscriptions- characteristics of Persian Islamic architecture.

The mosque is depicted on the reverse of the Iranian 20,000 rials banknote.

Baghdad-Riyadh Ties Not Detrimental to Iran’s Interests: FM Zarif

“Iraq’s relations with its neighbours are up to the Iraqi government,” Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said in a joint press conference with his South African counterpart in Pretoria on Monday.

Baghdad-Riyadh Ties Not Detrimental to Iran’s Interests: FM Zarif“Unlike the US, which thinks its interests are secured by causing rift and division in the region, the Islamic Republic of Iran believes its interests are met through the cooperation of countries in the Middle East,” he went on to say.

“Therefore, Iraq’s cooperation with its Arab neighbours is not at all detrimental to Iran’s interests; we rather consider it to be in line with our interests.”

Referring to the recent remarks made by US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson who urged those fighting against ISIS in Iraq to return home, Zarif said, “They are already at their homes. They have not been, and will not be, waiting for anybody’s order. Because if they were waiting for Mr Tillerson’s order, we would have ISIS in Baghdad and Erbil today.”

“We are pleased that they protected their homeland and never listened to anyone’s order, except for the top religious authority’s fatwa,” he added.

The Iranian top diplomat’s comments came after Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi’s visit to Saudi Arabia, where he discussed a range of issues with King Salman and US Secretary of State Tillerson.

UK Firm Signs €1.8bn MoU to Build Cancer Centres in Iran

“The British major company (IHG) signed today an MOU to finance construction of a network of cancer centres in Iran,” Ambassador Hamid Baeidinejad said in a post in his Twitter account on Monday.

The Iranian ambassador also noted that the MoU is valued at €1.8 billion.

Baeidinejad also noted in a post in his Instagram that the MoU was signed between Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education and International Hospital Group (IHG) following months of negotiation.

The agreement will see IHG invest in and build modern cancer treatment centres across the country in three phases, Tasnim quoted him as saying.

The two sides are expected to finalize the details of the MoU at their next round of talks, the Iranian diplomat said.

According to the terms of the agreement, the Iranian health ministry and IHG will also cooperate to exchange information, data and the latest findings in the field of cancer treatment and manpower training.

It will be one of the major foreign investments in Iran since the coming into force of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Judiciary Chief Rules Out Talks on Iran’s Defensive Power

Amoli Larijani

In reaction to recent remarks by European officials about the possibility of fresh negotiations with Iran over its regional presence and missile program, Ayatollah Amoli Larijani said the Europeans are not allowed to interfere in Iran’s defensive affairs.

Europeans should know that if want to repeat the US allegations about Iran, the Islamic Republic will stand against them as it stood against the US, he went on to say, according to a Farsi report by Mizan.

“It is totally wrong to link the JCPOA [nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers] to the Islamic Republic’s defensive affairs, and Iran will not accept it,” he added, addressing a group of judiciary officials in Tehran on Monday.

“Why should we deprive ourselves from our most basic right, which is the right to defend oneself, just because the US and its allies want us to be weak,” Ayatollah Amoli Larijani asked.

“Iran’s missile power serves defensive purposes and we will in no way hold any negotiation and accept a second or third JCPOA on our defensive power,” he underlined.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Amoli Larijani blasted Washington for accusing Tehran of sponsoring terrorism, saying the US is itself the mother of terrorist groups in the region, especially the ISIS.

“The US has created the ISIS and (surprisingly) it accuses Iran of supporting terrorism,” he said.

Referring to the US attempts to increase the number of its military bases in the region, he said, “You entered Iraq on the pretext of establishing security but you destroyed all infrastructures and left the ISIS on the ground.”

He also dismissed the US claims about Iran’s regional presence, saying the Islamic Republic’s presence in Syria and Iraq is based on the official invitations of their legitimate governments.

“The Islamic Republic is present in its own geographical area. What are YOU doing in our region?” he asked, stressing that the US is the main sponsor of terrorism in the world.

He also urged the Iranian administration to show a practical response to the nonsense remarks and moves made by the United States.

Two Ancient Skeletons Discovered in Central Iran

Two Ancient Skeletons Discovered in Central Iran

The deputy head of Hamadan Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism Department, Ahmad Torabi, said a scientific investigation has already begun into the two skeletons discovered in Jarrahan alley in the city of Hamadan.

“The skeletons were discovered while municipality workers were working on a project to renew water networks. During the digging process, they found two stone boxes similar to coffins,” he was quoted as saying on Monday by Miras-e Arya news agency.

He went on saying the archeologists were immediately dispatched to the area and began their probe into the boxes which were buried in parallel with each other about three metres deep in the earth.

“It’s too difficult to estimate the age of the coffins. But we have made all the required arrangements to provide the archeologists with a good time and space in Jarrahan alley to investigate the issue,” he said.

“According to initial estimations, one of the coffins has a length of 2 metres, a width of 80 centimetres, and a height of 50 centimetres,” Torbi noted.

The skeletons belong to a man and a woman. The archeologists have taken the skeletons to a laboratory for further investigations. Earlier studies on the skeletons had revealed that they belong to the Parthian era, over 2000 years ago.

During the Parthian era, Iranians used to pay serious attention to family burial and paid significant respects to women.

A top story in today’s newspapers was the two Iranian girls who committed suicide in the city of Isfahan under the influence of ‘Blue Whale’ game. The incident was shocking and unbelievable for the Iranian society and experts who thought the dangerous Russian game had not entered Iran.

The Iraqi prime minister’s visit to Saudi Arabia and the trilateral meeting he held with US Secretary of State and the Saudi officials also received great coverage. Iranian papers argue that Saudi Arabia and the US are planning to keep Baghdad away from Tehran and counter Iran’s regional influence. However, Iran says Iraqi PM Haider al-Abadi will also visit Tehran in the near future, and this will help Iran to be informed about the results of Riyadh meeting soon.

Several papers also covered the non-proliferation conference in Moscow and the remarks made about the Iran nuclear deal. Russia and Europe’s support for JCPOA and the comments made by Iranian FM Javad Zarif and Deputy FM Abbas Araqchi about US violation of its commitments also received great coverage.

Iran President to Visit South Africa in Coming Months

Hassan Rouhani

Zarif, who is in South Africa’s administrative capital of Pretoria, declared that Rouhani will visit the African country in a bid to promote the level of ties between the two countries.

The Iranian top diplomat described South Africa as a very close friend of the Islamic Republic.

He went on to say that the two countries have great capacities and potentialities for expansion of their relations, but the level of ties has remained low due to illegal sanctions against Iran.

Iran President to Visit South Africa in Coming MonthsZarif is in Pretoria at the invitation of South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Maite Nkoana-Mashabane.

The two sides discussed a range of issues in a Monday meeting held following Iran-South Africa Business Forum.

The forum was attended by the Iranian FM, South Africa’s Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies and business managers of the two countries.

Zarif will later leave South Africa for Uganda, where he will discuss expansion of bilateral political and economic relations. The Uganda stay is also scheduled to witness inauguration of a 50-bed hospital financed by the Islamic Republic.

The Iranian foreign minister will finally fly to Niger to meet with the country’s top officials.

President Downplays Allegations about Iran’s Regional Presence

Speaking in a Monday conference in Tehran, Rouhani said those who raise allegations about Iran’s presence in the region and its defensive power aim to evade responsibility for their role in the destruction of the Middle East.

“Who is responsible for so much destruction in the Middle East? Who did devastate Iraq and help the terrorists? And who did create all of them?” Rouhani asked.

“They [Europeans] say they like to negotiate with us. Alright, come here and talk. You will see who loses the most.”

“We ask certain countries: On the day when we were innocently fighting against aggressors [in the 1980s], who did you give weapons to? To us or to the aggressor?”

“When our people were under fire of enemy’s artillery, bombs, and missiles, did you give us a single air defence weapon?”

“At that time, we sent a broken European-made anti-aircraft gun to Europe for overhaul; however, they not only refused to repair it for us, but they even did not send the broken weapon back to us and said you are in the middle of a war and we cannot do it. Now they want to negotiate with us on military weapons,” he noted.

“Don’t trust such allegations. We know how to respond whenever necessary,” he added, vowing that the country will continue to pursue its interests in the region within this framework.
