Speaking in a meeting with members of the Assembly of Experts on Thursday, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said, “Solving problems – including economic and cultural problems – is only possible with the help of the people and with reliance on domestic capabilities and capacities, not with reliance on foreigners.”

“This issue should be repeated, time and time again, until it turns into a common and well-established discourse, because the country has many motivated and capable youths who offer new thoughts and ideas that are creative in various productive, scientific and educational sectors. The country should benefit from these youthful minds,” the Leader added.

Stressing that foreigners cannot solve the problems of the country, Ayatollah Khamenei stated, “I am not saying that we should break off our relations with the world. Since the beginning of the Revolution and until today, I have been stressing that we should have extensive relations with the world, but I want to say that we should not exchange our powerful legs for the foreigners’ cane.”

The Leader further referred to the nuclear negotiations as an example in this regard, saying, “The problem that we had and continue to have with the nuclear negotiations […] is that although there was nothing wrong with negotiating, those negotiations should have been conducted with care and precision, so much so that every move by Iran will not be considered as a violation of the JCPOA; while, this is not the case for every wrong move that the other side makes.”

“We should work with the world; we accept its requirements; but, we should not glue our eyes on foreigners either,” Ayatollah Khamenei went on to say.

Int’l Piano Festival in Tehran Hosting Famous Musicians

According to the Public Relations Department of Niavaran Artistic Creation Foundation, every night, two musicians perform improvised pieces for the audience.

Holding free music workshops and playing documentaries related to art of improvisation are among the other programs of this international event, Honar Online said in a Farsi report.

Musicians from Italy, Germany, Austria, Norway, France, the Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland, and two Iranian musicians are attending the festival.

Austrian musician David Six described the festival as an exceptional one, saying that such a festival has not been held in Europe until now.

Int’l Piano Festival in Tehran Hosting Famous Musicians“The festival was very interesting for me not as a musician, but as an audience, because I learned a lot. It’s absolutely unexpected, strange, and exciting for me to play piano in this festival. In addition, the effect of the festival with the participation of various artists will certainly be remarkable,” Six added.

Regarding his music workshop called Improvisation, Discourse and Polyphony, this Austrian musician said, “When I started the workshop, I did not know what direction to take. There were various people at the workshop who were enthusiastically following the topics, and this was very interesting for me.”

David Six also referred to the improvisation of Maziyar Younesi from Iran on the first night of the festival describing it as a superb and splendid one.

“Younesi had interesting ideas and managed to develop those ideas very well,” he underlined.

The Italian artist Stefano Battaglia said people in Iran are passionate about listening to improvised music.

Int’l Piano Festival in Tehran Hosting Famous Musicians“Iranian audiences are keen to get acquainted with the arts and culture of other countries. I think in this country, due to existence of specific audiences different concerts such as the piano improvisation festival are held and this is a very good and noticeable event,” he mentioned.

Battaglia, who previously travelled to Iran to have a performance said improvisation means living at the moment.

“In improvisation, the music itself is not the goal. From my point of view, in improvisation the musician is a medium for music. So I’m just trying to be alert and aware of the music stream to be able to de-identify the music and present it in the simplest possible way as a universal language without frontiers and nationalities.”

As for his musical workshop at Niavaran Cultural Centre, Battaglia said, “It was very interesting and motivating for me to share my life experiences with others. More grippingly was the interest of the participants at the workshop with whom I could share my experiences very well.”

Maziar Younesi, the Iranian musician participating in this international festival, described the experience of attending such a festival very exciting saying that he had lovely moments with the best piano players from different European countries.

Younesi, who has an experience of leading the Iranian-Austrian orchestra, stressed that holding such festivals can definitely create great atmosphere and provide music fans with their favorite music.

About improvisational art he said, “To me, the musician should be able to manage the time given to him for improvisation by relying on his knowledge and technique to play the instrument or use his vocal.

The law enforcement forces received reports on Wednesday on the smuggling of a large amount of drugs embedded on a trailer heading from Kerman to Turkmenistan. “The trailer was spotted on the entry to Mashhad and confiscated immediately,” he added.

We’ll Celebrate ISIS Destruction in 2 Months: General Soleimani

Ghasem-Soleimani

Major General Qassem Soleimani, the Commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corp (IRGC), says the ISIS terror group will be annihilated in a matter of months.

“I … already said we will root out ISIS in three months’ time, and I’m telling you now that the annihilation of ISIS is close at hand and we will celebrate the destruction of this evil tree in two months, and it is Iran, Russia, Syria, and Iraq that should hold that celebration,” said the top general, according to a Farsi report by Fars News Agency.

He then said the reason why enemies do not dare attack Iran is that the country had a successful experience in countering the enemy during the eight-year Iraqi imposed war on Iran in the 1980s and is also successful in fighting militants in Iraq and Syria today.

“The enemies tried to create the impression that this is a Shiite-Sunni war, but today there is more kindness between Shiites and Sunnis than ever before,” the top general said.

He then referred to those who have come to Syria to defend holy shrines against enemies.

“Today, all those who have come from Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan to defend holy shrines have come voluntarily.”

He said the driving force behind young Iranians going to Syria and Iraq is conscience as well as humanity.

“When insightful, faithful and revolutionary Iranian youth see that the oppressed people in cities in Syria and Iraq are besieged by ruthless people, they make sacrifices.”

General Soleimani underlined that in some cases “diplomacy won’t work,” adding there is no way to deal with terrorists in the region but to fight them.

Iran Unveils ‘Khorramshahr’ Ballistic Missile with 2000km Range

The missile, named Khorramshahr, was put on display during the military parade in Tehran on Friday, with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and senior military officials in attendance.

The ballistic missile, which has a range of 2000 kilometers, is capable of carrying multiple warheads, said Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, a senior commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Division.

“As it was observed, the missile has become smaller in size and more tactical and it will be operational in the near future,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the parades.

Addressing the event, Rouhani said no country can stop the Islamic Republic from strengthening its missile capabilities and defense programs.

“We will promote our defensive and military power as much as we deem necessary,” Rouhani said. “We seek no one’s permission to defend our land.”

He added that Iran’s defense power has never been used for aggressive acts, while certain world powers export deadly weapons to the Middle East.

The Iranian president said Tehran is playing key role in restoring peace and stability to the region.

“The great nation of Iran has always pursued peace and security in the region and the world, and has always defended the oppressed people of the world. We will defend the downtrodden people of Yemen, Syria, and Palestine whether you like it or not,” he added.

The parades across the country feature military units from various divisions of the Armed Forces, including the Army, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) as well as the Police Force. The week-long events are held in commemoration of Iranian forces’ eight-year defense of the Islamic Republic in the face of Iraq’s 1980-88 imposed war against the country.

Rouhani further slammed Washington and Tel Aviv’s recent anti-Tehran statements before the UN General Assembly.

He said the US and Israel have isolated themselves by expressing opposition to the nuclear agreement, which is hailed by the entire world community as a win for international diplomacy.

Rouhani once again reiterated Iran’s full commitment to the landmark 2015 nuclear accord with six world powers, called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

He said the entire global community commended the deal, “except only two people,” referring to US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who used their UN speeches to attack the JCPOA.

“I am very glad that this year at the United Nations and among all the countries of the world, there were only two voices, which were opposed to that of the people of the world. The US and the regime occupying of al-Quds were the only two voices, which were different from the voice of the entire world.” Rouhani asserted.

‘Breath’ Great Choice to Represent Iran’s Cinema in World: Official

Ahmad Masjed-Jamei, a member of Tehran City Council and a former minister of culture, has hailed the selection of ‘Breath’ as Iran’s official submission to the Academy Awards.

According to a Farsi report by Khabar Online, he said looking at the issue of peace could be seen not only in ‘Breath’, but also in Abyar’s previous film ‘The Groove 143’.

“In addition to expressing the director’s peace-seeking viewpoint, one of the characteristics of ‘Breath’ is the special attention of the filmmaker to the lifestyle of an Iranian family at a certain point in the contemporary history of this land,” Masjed-Jamei added.

He went on to say that the Iranian culture is full of diversities.

“One of the most appreciated values of this culture is the self-defence, and the other, is the value of ethnic, human and cultural diversification. Many people think that accepting one of these two values is the rejection of the other; but the film ‘Breath’ by Abyar has managed to put together these two values in a frame beautifully.”

Therefore, he added, the film can be a good cultural representative of Iran at the Oscars.

Masjed-Jamei, who is a member of the Cultural and Social Commission of Tehran City Council, said ‘Breath’ depicts different aspects of the Iranian life at different ages in urban and rural areas.

“The audience of the film faces a large amount of information about people’s lives during the years of revolution and war. One of the positive points about the movie is its special attention to ethics in the Iranian family, and Abyar has rightly chosen the topic of self-defence during the imposed war.”

The former culture minister highlighted that ‘Breath’ screens the turmoil that war creates in people’s collective and family life.

“In addition, one of the reasons for the success of this film is the sensational narration of the director, which seems to be a kind of narrative of her childhood, especially when we see the film is narrated from the viewpoint of a child girl,” he underscored.

“Most directors act selectively in narrating their stories, but in this film there is no selective look, and it describes all the story in full detail.”

Stressing that the film can beautifully represent Iranian cinema at the international events, Masjed-Jamei concluded that one of the reasons for choosing ‘Breath’ to participate in international competitions is its true account of Iranian life.

“Breath”, produced in 2015, relates the story of a little Iranian girl named Bahar who lives a life spun from folklore and stories, always with her head in a book. But growing up in Yazd in the 1970s and ’80s, she is at the centre of a country in turmoil: the Shah is overthrown, Ayatollah Khomeini rises to power, and the first shots are fired in a bitter and protracted war with Iraq. Over the span of several years, Bahar finds daydreaming in her own fantasy world is the only way she can make sense of the pain and suffering warring humans inflict on one another.
