Removing US Dollar from Int’l Transactions to Facilitate Banking Ties: Iran

Iranian MP Ezatollah Yousefian Molla said since the contracts and deals between Iran and the European countries are in US dollars, and Iran is under banking sanctions, there are a lot of problems that incur costs in banking ties.

“Therefore, if the dollar is removed from international transactions in Iran, the banking problems will be resolved and the speed of dealings will increase,” he told ICANA in a Farsi interview.

He further mentioned that if, for example, transactions between Iran and Russia are made using the Iranian rial or the Russian ruble, then it actually means the money will be exchanged between domestic banks, but this will be difficult when we start transactions with a third country.

Another Iranian legislator also mentioned that monetary agreements with neighbouring countries reduce the influence of Western currencies.

Mohammad Hossein Farhanghi said agreements are reached with Turkey to use national currencies in transactions, and in the next steps the process will be continued with countries like Russia and other neighbouring countries, such as Azerbaijan Republic.

The comments came after the Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in his recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Tehran called for cooperation to counter US sanctions against Iran and Russia, saying that “without paying heed to the negative propaganda of the enemies to undermine the relations between countries, we can counter US sanctions by methods like eliminating the dollar and replacing the national currency in bilateral or multilateral economic transactions.”

Visits to Saudi Arabia Hazardous to Regional Health: Iran FM

“Visits to the belligerent Saudi Arabia have proved hazardous to regional health. Trump’s visit led to Bahrain repression followed by Qatar debacle,” Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said in a Monday tweet.

“Visits by [Trump’s son-in-law] Kushner and Lebanese Prime Minister led to Hariri’s bizarre resignation while abroad. Of course, Iran is accused of interference,” he went on to say.

“Saudi Arabia bombs Yemen to smithereens, killing thousands of innocents including babies, spreads cholera and famine, but of course blames Iran,” Zarif added.

He also noted that “Riyadh is engaged in wars of aggression, regional bullying, destabilizing behaviour and risky provocations. It blames Iran for the consequences.”

“[These] powers are not interested in unity and brotherly [ties] among Muslims, because if such unity and brotherhood is promoted, Muslim countries will undoubtedly be able to solve their problems without the involvement of others,” Rouhani said in a meeting with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Qamar Javed Bajwa in Tehran on Monday.

He added that Iran-Pakistan cooperation could prepare the ground for reinforcing unity among Muslim countries.

“Our goal is to strengthen relationships among Muslim countries and there is no doubt that differences among Muslim countries can be settled through dialogue,” the Iranian chief executive pointed out.

Rouhani also welcomed the expansion of defense and military cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad in order to boost regional stability and security, saying that the Islamic Republic was determined to have cordial and strong relations with neighboring countries, including Pakistan.

Pakistan keen to boost defense, military ties with Iran: Bajwa

The Pakistani chief of army staff, for his part, commended deep-rooted mutual relations between Tehran and Islamabad and said his country was keen to improve defense and military ties with Iran in parallel with political and economic cooperation.

Bajwa added that divisions among Muslim countries must be settled through dialogue and emphasized that Western countries must not be allowed to foment discord with the purpose of selling arms to regional countries.

Iran President Hails Election of New Zealand’s New PM

rouhani-Jacinda Ardern

In his Tuesday message, Rouhani “sincerely” congratulated Ardern’s election as the new Prime Minister of New Zealand, and wished her success in carrying out the “important responsibility”.

“Given the political will and efforts of the high-ranking officials of the two countries, I hope bilateral relations between Tehran and Wellington would further develop.”

The Iranian president also wished health and success for Ardern and prosperity and felicity for the people of New Zealand.

On 19 October 2017, New Zealand First Leader Winston Peters announced that his party would form a coalition with Labour, making Ardern the next Prime Minister, and the second youngest in New Zealand’s history.

Japan Increases Energy Imports from Iran by 94%

Japan Increases Energy Imports from Iran by 94%

The Islamic Republic of Iran has managed to increase its share in global energy markets particularly in Asian markets after the implementation of the nuclear deal it signed with world powers.

A review of the figures released by the customs offices of China, South Korea and Japan reveal that the mentioned countries have significantly increased their energy imports from Iran.

Iran’s energy exports to Japan including gas derivatives has increased by 31 percent over the past year. Reports say Iran exported 6.447 millions of oil barrels to Japan during the past year which is unprecedented compared with previous years.

According to a report by Japan’s energy ministry, the country has increased its energy imports from Iran by 94 percent just in the past month.

Meanwhile, Iran’s exports to Japan in 2016 experienced a 37 percent increase compared with previous year.

During the first six months of 2017, Iran supplied 6.8 percent of the energy Japan consumes. The figure for the same period in 2016 stood at 7 percent.

Iran Set to Attract More Tourists by Easing Visa Regime

Iran Set to Attract More Tourists by Easing Visa Regime

“We are not obsessed with lifting visa regime per se. Fortunately, at present we issue visa upon arrival for people from at least 180 states for 90 days but lifting visa requirements is a measure which is usually undertaken to attract more foreign tourists,” Head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHTO), Ali Asghar Mounesan, was quoted as saying in a Farsi report by ISNA.

He said the project to lift visa requirements should be implemented consistently, “because sometimes the measure does not pay off and leads to the outflow of Iranian tourists to other countries.”

Mounesan said removing visa restrictions should be carried out bilaterally and noted the ICHTO is pursuing the project seriously. “We firmly believe that the project must be implemented consistently.”

The ICHTO chief also said deciding about the countries with which Iran should remove visa restrictions is highly significant. “We should develop our tourist policy in a way that leads to a win-win game. We want to lift Iran’s visa requirements to attract more foreign tourists instead.”

He went on to say that the number of the countries for which Iran has lifted visa requirements is too small. “We are now studying the conditions of other states to see how many tourists we can attract if we remove our visa restrictions for them. Having finalized our list, we will share it with the foreign ministry to make the required arrangements.”

The idea of lifting visa requirements was first raised in the previous government under Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The government was expected to implement the project for tourists from 60 countries but the list of the countries was never released. The government instead implemented the project of visa upon arrival first for 30 days and then increased it to 90 days.

The ICHTO chief has always talked of the need to attract more foreign tourists through visa facilities but they have never published any list of the countries. They only said the countries included the regional states as well as those with which Iran has special relations in political and economic fields. Now the organization under Mounesan seems determined enough to go ahead with the project.

Iran has already lifted visa requirements for tourists from countries like Turkey, Malaysia, Georgia, Armenia, Russia, and Serbia.

Former US Congresswoman in Iraq for Arba’een Walk

Former US Congresswoman in Iraq for Arba’een Walk

Cynthia McKinney, who has served for 12 years in the US House of Representatives, has headed to Iraq to take part in Arba’een, the world’s largest religious gathering.

McKinney is now a university professor in Bangladesh, and says she has long been thinking about a trip to Iraq.

She also referred to the US invasion of Iraq saying, at that time, she was the representative of the state of Georgia and made speech against the invasion of Iraq by the George W. Bush administration.

US CongresswomanShe says her speech seemed to cost her dearly and she was attacked and criticized by his colleagues, and they accused her of betraying her country.

But these criticisms made her determined to use her position at the US Congress to take a stand against waging war in Iraq or any other place at the national level and vote against it, a Farsi report by Tasnim said.

About her motivation for making a trip to Iraq she said, “I am here as an American citizen who is responsible for American policies, and knows that her taxes are being spent on US warmongering around the world.”

“I have come to see Iraq at this time and on the eve of its victory [against terrorism]. I’m also asking questions about Imam Hussein and the history of Ashura and Arba’een from my fellow travellers.”

Each year, a huge crowd of Shiite Muslims attend the religious commemoration of Arba’een, marking the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS).

The Iraqi city of Karbala hosts the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS). Last year, around 20 million pilgrims from all over the world gathered in Karbala on Arba’een.

Cooperation with Iran Helps Syria Survive Foreign Plots: Velayati

Cooperation with Iran Helps Syria Survive Foreign Plots: Velayati

“The common interests of Iran and Syria in resistance (against enemies) are principled and the goal of both countries in the region is to maintain the axis of resistance and stand up against the Zionists and their supporters,” Ali Akbar Velayati said in a Farsi interview with the IRIB News Agency.

He noted that the pace of developments in the region requires that the authorities of the two countries make mutual trips and consult with each other at short intervals.

Velayati pointed to his meetings with a number of Syrian authorities over the next two days, saying that if the visits are made at short intervals, more coordination would be possible.

He also praised the successive victories of the Syrian people and army, especially in the areas where fighting was not very easy, such as in the east of the country and the city of Deir ez-Zor.

“The Syrian government and people have shown that they would overcome any sort of problem,” said Velayati.

He also noted that the United States, the Zionists and their allies believed that they could win a victory against the Syrian government and people, but that turned out to be an illusion.

The report also quotes Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem as saying after a meeting with Velayati that “the relations between Syria and the Islamic Republic of Iran are brotherly and strategic in all fields.”

“We are proud of Iran’s presence at the axis of resistance. Iran is part of the victories achieved by the brave men of our country’s armed forces, and in our political consultations, we and Iran share our views.” added Muallem.
